Norwalk could become the first city in Connecticut to give buses priority at traffic lights. The proposed system would automatically extend green lights or shorten red lights for approaching buses, helping keep them on schedule. City officials say the technology could improve transit reliability without causing significant delays for other drivers. We got more details from Fred Eshraghi, City Traffic Engineer and Charlie Baker, Senior Traffic Engineer for the city of Norwalk.

In Queensland, a trial of Australia's first AI-powered traffic signal system is underway. Meanwhile, at the university attended by Brisbane reporter Fumiko Nagashima, policies on AI use have been revised, allowing students to use AI for certain tasks that were previously prohibited. Listen to SBS Japanese Audio on Tue, Thu and Fri from 1pm on SBS 3. Our panellists beg: please, Santa, do not bring us a Christmas election. Red, yellow and green traffic lights are outdated because a fourth colour might be added to intersections. There's a big innovation in menstrual products and thank god, it's not AI! Peanut allergies have fallen fast, yet the PB sandwich remains a schoolyard crime. Michael stepped in for Cooper on today's show and there was no shortage of laughs. The gang revealed the funny and relatable things people admit to doing while sitting at traffic lights waiting for them to change, before the conversation took a detour when Michael called out Oonagh for the state of her very dirty car! Oonagh also delivered another classic Wind-Up Wednesday prank call, this time convincing poor Tara that her much-loved sabbatical was being cut short and she needed to return to work immediately. Plus, on Get It Off Your Chest, one listener reached breaking point with a housemate who refuses to clean the shower after using it, leaving shampoo and hair everywhere for everyone else to deal with. Listen back for prank call chaos, relatable confessions and plenty of laughs from another entertaining morning on the show.
Donal brings his daily statistic to the show, and we have to work together to guess the answer. Today's question saw us thinking of all the things we do to pass the time while waiting at the lights. Micheal wanted to talk about Oonagh's disgrace of a messy car as well, which is always fun to do
What if your climate risk assessments could predict the future with greater accuracy than historical data alone? In part two of this conversation on Making Risk Flow, Jake Harding continues his discussion with Joan Saladich, Founder of Geoskop, exploring how insurers can move beyond static climate risk models and embrace a more sophisticated, forward-looking approach to decision-making. Joan explains why annual climate model updates can create misleading conclusions, how vegetation and soil dynamics reshape wildfire risk, and why relying on single-source data leaves carriers exposed to blind spots. The conversation also examines the role of AI and large language models in processing complex climate datasets, emphasising that technology should enhance, not replace, human judgment. Joan outlines a practical framework for combining historical data, future climate projections, alternative statistical models, and socioeconomic context to generate more accurate, explainable, and actionable climate risk intelligence. What if the climate risk data you're using to underwrite policies is fundamentally flawed? In this first of two-part episode of Making Risk Flow, host Jake Harding speaks with Joan Saladich, CEO and co-founder of Geoskop, about why traditional climate risk scores often fail insurers and what a more sophisticated approach looks like. Joan explains how deterministic ratings and traffic-light systems oversimplify complex climate realities, making them unsuitable for underwriting decisions. He explores the value of probabilistic climate modeling, AI-powered analysis, and uncertainty quantification in assessing evolving risks. The conversation also examines changing reinsurance dynamics, which are pushing more climate-related exposure onto commercial insurers. Joan discusses the importance of validating climate models through measurable accuracy and transparency, while highlighting how outdated scenario assumptions can distort risk assessments. Together, they show how embracing data complexity can create a meaningful competitive advantage in modern insurance underwriting. Fan Mail: Got a challenge digitizing your intake? Another chilly evening in Western Europe, as Elliot Williams is joined this week by Jenny List to chew the fat over the week's hacks. It's been an auspicious week for anniversaries, with the hundredth since the first demonstration of a working television system in a room above a London coffee shop. John Logie Baird's mechanically-scanned TV may have ultimately been a dead-end superseded by the all-electronic systems we all know, but the importance of television for the later half of the 20th century and further is beyond question. The standout hacks of the week include a very clever use of the ESP32's WiFi API to detect people moving through a WiFi field, a promising open-source smartphone, another ESP32 project in a comms system for cyclists, more cycling on tensegrity spokes, a clever way to smooth plaster casts, and a light sculpture reflecting Wi-Fi traffic. Then there are a slew of hacks including 3D printed PCBs and gem-cut dichroic prisms, before we move to the can't-miss articles. There we're looking at document preservation, and a wallow in internet history with a look at the Netscape brand. As usual all the links you need can be found over on Hackaday, so listen, and enjoy!

Here's what's happening in your sales org right now. Your top rep just walked into a meeting with a six-figure prospect. And she's completely winging it - not because she's unprepared, but because she spent the last 45 minutes in back-to-back calls and didn't have time to research. Meanwhile, her competitor walked in knowing the prospect's company announced a hiring freeze last week, that the VP is stressed about doing more with less, and exactly which case study would resonate. How? They didn't spend 45 minutes on LinkedIn. They hired a Digital Crew member to do the research for them. This is Episode 03 of our Launch Trilogy - and today we execute. I'm going to walk you through creating The Pre-Flight Agent: an AI teammate that researches your prospects while you sleep and drops a strategic battle card in your inbox before every sales call. You'll learn: Why this is agentic AI, not just automation (the AI uses discretion - like a Tesla factory vs. Ford's 1913 assembly line) The 3-component architecture every AI agent needs (Trigger, Brain, Action) How to build this in Zapier with zero coding (I just built this myself - I'll show you the exact steps) The "Context Block" secret that turns generic summaries into strategic intelligence The Traffic Light safety check (public data only - no risk) The ROI math: How 5 hours saved per week = $500k in monthly pipeline capacity for a 10-person team I'm not a futurist selling science fiction. I'm the Director of Partner-led Growth at Agorapulse. I carry quota pressure. I built this agent over the weekend, and it saved me 4 hours this week. This episode is your blueprint. And here's what's beautiful - this agent makes your reps MORE human, not less. Because they show up prepared, empathetic, and asking questions that prove they actually care about solving the prospect's problem. Build the MVP this week. Test it. Then imagine your entire Digital Crew: Proposal Agents, Roleplay Agents, Pipeline Health Agents. The technology exists. The only limit is your architecture. Learn more about your ad choices. Right now, while you're listening to this, one of your sales reps is pasting customer data into ChatGPT. Your marketing manager just uploaded strategic memos to Claude. And your IT department has no idea. Welcome to Shadow AI. Research shows that while only 40% of companies have official enterprise AI licenses, 90% of employees are using AI tools through personal accounts. Your team isn't trying to sabotage you - they're trying to survive the "Admin Drag" we discussed in Episode 01. The question isn't whether they're using AI. They are. The question is: Are you going to hide from it, or are you going to lead it? In this episode, Mike Allton tackles the biggest obstacle standing between you and effective AI implementation: governance. He breaks down why the typical corporate response - the "ban hammer" - doesn't just fail, it makes the problem worse by driving AI usage completely underground where you have zero visibility. You'll discover: Why 90% of employees are "Shadow Users" leveraging personal AI accounts to hit their goals The three scenarios currently creating data leaks in most revenue organizations (PII in free tools, unreleased product details in public galleries, customer records in unsecured platforms) Why your team isn't being malicious - they're being desperate (and what that tells you about your tech stack) The "Traffic Light System": A simple 3-tier framework (Green/Yellow/Red) that employees actually remember How to launch a 30-Day Amnesty Program that brings Shadow AI into the light without creating a witch hunt The 7-day implementation roadmap to go from "Shadow Risk" to "Sanctioned Speed" This isn't about punishing innovation. It's about governing it. Because when you sanction Shadow AI, you don't just reduce risk - you unlock velocity. Mike walks you through the exact email templates, survey questions, and policy frameworks you need to turn your biggest security vulnerability into a competitive advantage. Featured Framework: The 30-Day Amnesty Program - discover what tools your team is actually using (and why your official stack is failing them) Featured Resource: The Shadow AI Governance Launchpad - includes the Traffic Light cheat sheet, amnesty email script, and AI Use Policy template ready for Legal review Download here: https://theaihat.com/the-executive-guide-to-shadow-ai-from-security-risk-to-competitive-advantage/ Next Episode: We move from governance to implementation. You'll learn how to hire your first Digital Crew member - a Sales Prep Agent that researches prospects 15 minutes before every call and delivers a Battle Card to your rep's inbox. If you're a VP of Sales, CRO, or RevOps Director who needs to secure your team while enabling them to move faster, this is your playbook. North Caldwell, New Jersey - with Special Guest - Margot Escott Tiny town. Big secrets. One suspiciously spiritual traffic light. Birch beer, buried mafia lore, an abandoned sanitarium, and a Church of the Traffic Light that really leans into metaphysics — Margo Escott brings us back to North Caldwell, NJ, and Podcast Town builds a delightfully deranged local variety show around it. Expect tomato politics, a Sopranos-adjacent tour, electrocution "illuminators," and at least one tomato to the face. In this episdode: Host Billy Merritt interviews Margo about growing up in a town with no stores and no traffic lights — until suddenly there is one. The town's favorite podcast - "Tonight in North Caldwell," complete with call-ins, commercials (Tony Soprano Tours; Freddie's Funeral Home), and a fireman's picnic parade gone very, very sideways. Highlights include: the Overbrook Sanitarium ruins, Big Al's Maserati Tomato Farm and its overprotective daughter, the Church of the Traffic Light, and the surprise Tomato Queen pageant (chaos, chanting, and tomato splatter included). Standout lines (for the quote-tweet pile) "Praise all stoplights." "Traffic light be with you." "Who dat bitch?" Cast & Credits Host: Billy Merritt. Guest & town chronicler: Margo Escott. Full Podcast Town improv troupe — characters include Mildy/Lisa, Tim, Luke, Big Al, Tia (Traffic Light priest), and more. Heads up / Trigger note Contains playful references to mental-health institutions, prisons, and mock electrocution scenes (improv, not real). Listener discretion advised for anyone sensitive to those themes. Enjoy — and remember: if you're ever confused by a new traffic light, consult the parish.
