This week, we get lost in thought about the difference between cucktoast and milquetoast, revisit the Beastie Boys x Santigold video, and dive into the bizarre history of the real Santo Gold. Plus, JJ has some thoughts on the Taken franchise. Then, in Web Droppings, things heat up when a man sets his place on fire trying to hide his inflatable girlfriend, a couple spends a flight next to a dead body, and some Colorado men go full Looney Tunes trying to launch contraband into a prison—by cannon and—oh yeah—there's an asteroid headed for Earth! Get Lost.

Note: This episode originally aired on June 20, 2019. On the latest episode of the Talkhouse Podcast, two good friends, actor-writer-director Lake Bell and singer Santigold, sit down for a long-awaited chat together. The pair are both very busy performers – Bell is hard at work on the second season of her new show Bless This Mess and can be heard in the new animated feature The Secret Life of Pets 2, and Santi recently dropped I Don't Want: The Gold Fire Sessions and just came back from a U.S. tour – but are also highly involved mothers, and a large focus of their talk is on the challenges of balancing family life with creative work. They discuss how you can't in fact do it all or have it all, how the making art changes after you have kids, how filmmaking and parenting are (kind of) the same thing, plus Santi's social media struggles, where the roots of Lake's comedy lie, what Lake is doing to address the current political situation, Santi's move into directing, and much, much more. Christy DeGallerie is a writer and interdisciplinary artist from New York. Her contribution to the Modern Love column in the New York Times took my breath away a year ago, in which she wrote about her decision to come out to her mother on the day of her deportation. It's a moving, funny, sharp dissertation on migration, queerness, and gardening, and I insist you give it a read.Christy is also an enormous music fan, and made this interview exceptionally easy by showing up with some fabulous selections and stories. On verra bien… DJ MEHDI "Pocket Piano" JAMIE XX “Dafodil” ARTHUR FU BANDINI "Retrouver le soleil" ALIZAR "Vague bleue" YOA "Le collectionneur" CLAUDE "Baisodrome" SUPERBRAVO "Elli" VLURE "This is not the end" MAÏCEE "Twenty Twenty"
Basically this episode was a reason for me to listen to the 'brat' album and talk to Jules about my hot takes on Chappell Roan and the current pop scene. I always float in and out of current music offerings. On this episode we get into our favorite tracks of the moment, the Taylor Swift of it all and her shadow over pop, being confused about Sabrina Carpenter, reminisce on the sleaze pop dance of the 2010s (Sky Ferreira, MIA, Santigold, La Roux, Robyn, etc..), and touch on the travesty on the erasure of culture in the form of MTV News.

After analyzing the influences of indie rock act Pouty (who we mistakenly misgeolocated to Philly... they're from Cali) and chatting about some ill-considered arena tours, we get to the matter at hand: recapping our three days at the Kilby Block Party music festival in Salt Lake City. Show reviews of LCD Soundsystem, Joanna Newsom, Courtney Barnett, Vampire Weekend, Guided By Voices, Death Cab / Postal Service (again), Belle & Sebastian, Santigold, and many more.
This week on The Tracklist, Daron Jenkins and Chris Saunders enter a world of high-tech knights, shapeshifters, and hidden agendas with a deep dive into the animated film "Nimona." Packed with action, humor, and a surprising amount of heart, Nimona's soundtrack is just as electrifying as its story. Join us as we break down the score and its role in propelling the fierce friendship between Nimona and a disgraced knight, Sir Ballister. Was it the soaring orchestral pieces or the pulse-pounding electronica that resonated most? Hit play and find out as we dissect the soundtrack, one genre-bending track at a time. Get ready for music by: Judas Priest, The Dollyrot, Santigold, and more!

Hosted on Acast. Santigold is an artist who exists at the cross-section of punk, dub, new wave and indie pop. Long frustrated with attempts like these to classify her style, Santi has always been a proud outlier among the restrictive categories used to divide music. Santi's anti-establishment bent was in part a reaction to working as an A&R for Epic Records' black music department. Frustrated with what they categorized as “urban music” in the early aughts, Santi left her job, went home to Philly, and started a punk band called Stiffed. After honing her chops for a few years as a lead singer, Santi released her debut solo album, Santigold in 2008. The album's lead singles “Creator” and “L.E.S. Artistes” were a revelation when they came out, and led to Santi headlining tours around the world and even opening shows for Bjork, Coldplay, Jay-Z and the Beastie Boys. Now with three other albums to her credit, including last year's soul-stirring Spirituals, Santigold is celebrating the 15th anniversary of her debut release. And today she's expanded her artistic endeavors to include a podcast called Noble Champions where she mines the creative life with friends like Olivia Wilde, Questlove and Yasiin Bey. On today's episode Leah Rose talks to Santigold about the unique path she took to build her solo career. Santi also shares why she decided to cancel her tour last year with a heartfelt public letter that shared insight into the financial and emotional toll of touring post-pandemic. She also recalls finding out that she was included in a list of influential black female artists on Beyonce's “Break My Soul” remix. In this episode, we make our annual trek to Miami to record the Afro Roots Festival. To celebrate its 25th anniversary, Mali's Amadou & Mariam headlined. Over four decades, Amadou & Mariam have managed to joyfully combine their love story with a musical career. Touring the globe, they have become some of the most famous ambassadors of African music. Collaborations with Damon Albarn, Manu Chao, Santigold, TV On The Radio, and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs have been well received. The duo have played the world's biggest festivals, from Coachella to Glastonbury, and opened for huge bands such as Coldplay and U2. Also in this episode, to celebrate Afro Roots at 25, are some of our favorite festival performances by Noura Mint Seymali of Mauritania and Dayme Arocena from Cuba. Produced by Sean Barlow. Primos in case you didn't know: Myrcene is also known as β-myrcene, is a terpene found in a variety of plants, including mangoes, hops, thyme, and of course, cannabis. It's known for its musky, earthy aroma resembling cloves or red grapes. Myrcene is typically recommended for the treatment of pain and inflammation. It's also believed to have anxiolytic (anxiety-reducing) effects, making it potentially useful for the treatment of anxiety and stress. It's also been shown to have sedative and analgesic properties. Some of the most popular cannabis strains with high myrcene percentages include OG Kush, White Widow, and Granddaddy Purple. These strains are known for their potent effects and are often used by individuals seeking relief from chronic pain and stress. Remember that the effects of any terpene or cannabinoid, can vary greatly depending on the individual and the specific strain being consumed. It's always important to consult with a healthcare professional before using cannabis for medicinal purposes. And ask your budtenders about it also. Dude you're late. Formerly known as Spank Rock, Naeem has performed with so many of the greats but one that I found out was with Bjork and that friend and guest of the show Christian Schwartz has been to at the Apollo. Santigold sits down with artists Yasiin Bey (aka. Mos Def) and Sanford Biggers for a profound and far-reaching conversation about the relationship between art and spirit - how spirituality informs their work, creativity as a spiritual ritual, how art mirrors culture, and the toll the act of creating can take on artists.

Santigold is a singer, songwriter, and producer. She's put out 4 albums since 2008, and she's been featured as a collaborator on songs with Jay-Z, Beastie Boys, Diplo, and more. In this episode, Santi takes apart her song "Ushers of the New World," from her 2022 album Spirituals. She made it with some other collaborators she's worked with before, including Grammy-winning producer Rostam, and producer Ricky Blaze. She told me about how she tries to channel her gut instincts, and how she wanted to transform some of the darkest feelings of 2020 into something galvanizing. After a four-year hiatus – and a name drop on a Beyoncé remix – musical polymath Santigold is back with a brand new album. Known for her signature blend of genre-defying songcraft, the artist's fourth studio album Spirituals is one of her most artistically challenging projects yet. It's another venture into what she does best: addressing heavy themes through toe-tapping melodies. From Nate's personal favorite, 2016's “Can't Get Enough of Myself,” to “My Horror,” a pan-genre sonic vision has always been present in her career. On this episode of Switched On Pop, Santigold speaks about her new record, being a mother, and the emotions that went into making Spirituals. Learn more about your ad choices. Santigold - "High Priestess" from the 2022 album Spirituals on Little Jerk. Santigold returns with a vengeance for Spirituals, her first new full-length in six years. She explains in a press release, "I loved the idea of calling it Spirituals because it touched on the idea of Negro spirituals, which were songs that served the purpose of getting Black people through the un-get-throughable. In the absence of physical freedom, spirituals have traditionally been music whose sound and physical performance allow its participants to feel transcendental freedom in the moment. That's what this record did for me." Today's Song of the Day came out of a collaboration with Ray Brady and Boys Noize, with additional creative contributions from Psymun and Gayngs' Ryan Olson.
