Sam Colon is a costume designer/assistant for TV & Film in Los Angeles, CA and has become a dear friend over the last year. She happens to be dating Mike Aviles (from previous episodes), so we begin catching up on their holiday travels to New York and Florida, and how there's just something so special about Christmas in NYC. Then, we jump right in to her story and how she ended up pursuing a career in costume design while attending FIT, running around the big apple as a 17 year-old with MapQuest directions and big dreams. She interned at Saturday Night Live when Jason Sudeikis and Bill Hader were the stars on set. She fills me in on what that was like, walking those halls, and who in the cast was the most kind. From there, I want to know her process and learn how costume design really works for a show or movie. From pitching mood boards to booking a gig to hanging that first outfit in a star's trailer. It's so fun learning all this behind-the-scenes stuff. Finally, we wrap with a would you rather featuring 2 prehistoric beasts based on a recent discovery off the coast of Mexico. We share our favorite 007 movies, our favorite actor to ever play the part and then get into a nuanced discussion about who will/should take over. Another white guy? A person of color? A woman? Nobody knows just yet, but there's a ton of fun speculation, of course. Finally, we wrap up with some thoughts on this season of The Bachelorette. Dammit to hell I love my next guest, Mike Aviles. He quickly became one of my best friends in LA a couple years ago when we met in an acting class and hit it off. He's a big fan of The Bachelor and so I had to bring him on to talk about this finale and the state of the show in general - dealing with all the racism and where we go from here. But before that, we talk about the mob and his family history and The Irishman and what it really means to get “whacked” by a mobster, lol. Mike is Puerto Rican, so we discuss the new term Latinx and what it means to him/others and how that impacts us all. Last year, Mike finished writing, producing and staring in a new TV pilot he created with his best friend who has since passed away. We talk about grief, dealing with loss, what it all means and how we can honor those that are no longer with us, today. I'm so proud of the work Mike has put in via therapy and elsewhere to be able to share and speak his truth now. Finally, we wrap up talking about his love for surfing and some of his shark encounters… which is hilarious and terrifying. This episode is amazing, you're gonna love it.  :)Shop now at hardlytomorrow.comHosted by @stevenboydwallace

Bob McClure's Dismissal Leads To More Questions Than Answers

TSS:Without A Curse

The latest Red Sox drama involves the timing of the firing of pitching coach Bob McClure. At the time of his dismissal, the Red Sox starting rotation boasted an ERA of 4.84. The firing was warranted. But why now? The Red Sox aren't going to contend for a playoff spot, and evaluating Randy Niemann's performance as a pitching coach in late August and September wouldn't be a productive practice. The only reason as to why McClure was fired on Monday is that it was a vote of confidence for Bobby Valentine, as scary as that may be. Alex believes the crux of the dysfunction amongst the coaching staff and front office this season is that everyone is trying to protect his own turf. From the coaches refusing to comply with Valentine, to Valentine's aggressive passivity, to Ben Cherington allowing players to voice complaints in his office, everybody is trying to strengthen his perception when this team crumbles in September (if they haven't already begun to do so). The organization is a mess, and judging by a recent Boston Herald poll, a significant percentage of Boston sports fans agree. Speaking of September, Alex cannot fathom as to why the Red Sox will play retreads like Aaron Cook, Mike Aviles, and Scott Podsednik once rosters expand. Let the young guys play then, and let them start playing now. There is no reason to watch a team laden with veteran cast-offs bumble its way to 78 wins. Begin the youth movement. In the "Around the League" segment, Alex looks at the AL East standings, where the Yankees maintain a lead despite getting swept by the White Sox this week. Bartolo Colon was suspended for steroids this week, and Alex looks at the similarities between Colon and Melky Cabrera, who was suspended last week. Alex also discusses Roger Clemens' return to baseball this weekend, and the likelihood of him pitching for the Houston Astros this season. Is it all a ploy for Clemens to delay his Hall of Fame eligibility? Email Alex at areimer@bu.edu, and follow him on Twitter @AlexReimer1. Post on the message boards at www.thesportsstuff.com/boards (there will be a series thread up this weekend about the big set against KC)!

For once, there is a lot of good news to talk about in regards to the Red Sox! They have won 6 of their last 7 games, and are within 1 game of .500 on the season. What went right for the Red Sox on this road trip to Minnesota and Chicago? Was it really as simple as the starting pitching finally providing the Red Sox with innings and quality efforts? Alex discusses the improved recent performance from the bullpen, and how much of it is legitimate and how much of it can be attributed to the level of competition they've played recently. Even if it is due to the level of competition, is that necessarily a negative thing? The offense continues to perform well, with David Ortiz off to a thunderous start. Mike Aviles, Ryan Sweeney, and Cody Ross have done their parts to minimize the effect of Jacoby Ellsbury's absence as well. The upcoming series against the A's is previewed, as is the potential upcoming roster crunch with Aaron Cook's first opt-out date approaching. In the "Around the League" segment, Alex looks at the AL East standings and discusses the teams with the hottest starts in baseball as well as the teams with the slowest starts in baseball. Plus, Alex reveals his unequivocal man-crush on Bryce Harper. Post on the message boards at www.thesportsstuff.com/boards. Signing up is free, quick, and easy. The non-waiver trade deadline has passed and Alex spends time discussing the big...Mike Aviles trade! (Okay, 2 minutes you're never going to get back were spent on Aviles.) But Also mostly turns his attention to Erik Bedard, and how Bedard solidifies the starting rotation with Clay Buchholz's future still very much in jeopardy. Besides health, are there any other concerns worth paying attention to in regards to Bedard? The 3 game series against the White Sox is recapped too, with Alex talking about Jarrod Saltalamacchia's continued impressive play, and Jon Lester's continued dominance on the mound since returning from the DL. Plus, it also seems as if the Red Sox are somewhat comfortable with their current bullpen... In the "Around the League" segment Alex gives his take on the Yankees standing pat at the deadline. He also runs over some winners and losers, ranging from teams who dreamed big like the Phillies and Indians to teams that should've sold big like the Cubs.
