I never quite got to either one of them, but I felt like I was kind of a mishmash of the two in some cases." August 30, 1978, Sadaharu Oh of the Tokyo Giants hits the 800th home run of his career. Oh, the world's all-time home run king, had previously broken Hank Aaron's record of 755 home runs. He went on to hit 868 for his career. Doctors had advised Stengel to step down after suffering a broken hip in a bathroom fall on July 25. Stengel will gain induction to the Hall of Fame the next year. Charles Dillon "Casey" Stengel made his big league debut as an outfielder with John McGraw's New York Giants in 1912. His greatest moment as a player came in the 1923 World Series with the Giants. The year following his retirement, Stengel will gain induction to the Hall of Fame.

Today on our full length episode I had the pleasure of talking with the great Nick Swisher. Nick is a ball of energy and positivity and he had so many great things to say about how to choose happiness and how to look forward and the future while living in the present moment. Nick was a phenomenal baseball player playing 12 seasons in which he hit 20 or more home runs in nine straight seasons and won a world series with the New York Yankees in 2009. He was a first round pick by the Oakland A's in 2002 and told me he learned how to switch hit playing home run derby with his friends in high school. But Nick has always been known for his infectious personality. We talked about his career, we talked about fatherhood, and we talked about how with baseball behind him, the best years of his life lay ahead. So I hope you enjoy the fantastic, energizing conversation with Nick Swisher. Visit my website: saxinthemorning.com for merchandise and other links. After Nick Swisher led the charge last night before the Yankees game, the guys wonder who would be the perfect hype-man for the team. And Evan lets Craig in on a little secret about a former Yankee.
Hour 1: The Yankees took care of business in game 1 last night beating Cleveland 4-1. Gerrit Cole did what he was supposed to do and Harrison Bader homered. Boomer also mixed in a quick Rangers take and some info on the Matt Rhule firing and the roughing the passer situation in the NFL. Jerry starts with the Yankees win and Harrison Bader's HR. We got ourselves a new John Sterling singing HR call. It's from a play from 1921. Josh Donaldson hit what he thought was a HR but it was not, and he was caught between first and second and was tagged out. Aaron Boone talks about Cole's performance. Cole says he's a routine guy so did not see Nick Swisher running out on the field. The Astros got a huge walk off HR by Yordan Alvarez. Giants punter Jamie Gillan is still in London because of a passport issue. Brett Favre says he's done nothing wrong and the media is smearing him. And the Rangers beat the Lightning at the Garden last night. In the final segment of the hour, we talk about Bob Costas and Ron Darling doing the Yankees game last night but Costas didn't give Darling any time to say anything. Callers are not happy with Josh Donaldson not running out a ball he thought was a HR.

Boomer says the Guardians are a light hitting team with not a lot of depth at pitching. If a fan would have reached over and caught the Donaldson ball, they most likely would have called it a HR. Lena in Lake Grove checks in to talk about Cole setting the tone last night. People didn't seem to like Bob Costas and Ron Darling calling the Yankees game. Jerry returns for another update and starts with the Yankees beating the Guardians and Rizzo's HR call from John Sterling. Cole says he got a lot of help from the defense last night. In the final segment of the hour, we talked about the trade deadline moves by the Mets and Yankees. A caller calls Gio ‘a piece of crap'. Hour 3: The Giants and Jets are both off to solid starts but because baseball is in playoff mode, they kind of get forgotten about. The Jets travel to Green Bay and the Giants play the Ravens at MetLife. We previewed both upcoming games. We also talked about the tremendous job Brian Daboll is doing. Jerry returns for an update but first we talk about the guy sitting behind home plate who looked like he was straight out of the 1600's. The Yankees took game 1 last night and we hear from Harrison Bader, a local kid who hit a HR last night. The Astros won on a walk-off HR by Yordan Alvarez. Rob Saleh says the Jets are buying in as they head to Green Bay. And the Rangers won their season opener last night over the Lightning at MSG. In the final segment of the hour, the guy who Davante Adams shoved to the ground at the end of the game filed a police report. Hour 4: Aaron Judge needs to have a Jeter moment in the playoffs this season to cap it all off. Boomer says if he were the Yankees, he would make a fair offer to Judge and let the offer stand for 24 hours and that's it. Boomer said Judge has to take the highest offer for all the players that come after him. Jerry returns for an update with some sounds from last night's Yankees game 1 win over Cleveland. We got a new HR call from John Sterling for Harrison Bader. Brian Daboll was asked about being called a bad 4-1 team. Mike Tomlin takes the blame for his team's performance in Buffalo. He also said something about ‘shoot a hostage' and we have no idea what that means. And the Rangers beat the Lightning last night in their season opener at MSG. In the final segment of the show, we talked about Boomer & Gio golfing yesterday for Boomer's foundation. People from the Jets organization that were there are cautiously optimistic about the season.

Talkin’21 podcast welcomes All-Star switch-hitter and 2009 World Series champion Nick Swisher. Known for his infectious personality and charisma, Swisher talks about his upbringing in Ohio, his father Steve, who played in the majors, his late grandmother and the impact of select teammates who would eventually become Baseball Hall of Famers. But in his post-playing career, Swisher is a devoted husband and father who wants to see baseball grow globally. His participation in various MLB initiatives is exactly what the game desperately needs today. Yet, his philanthropic efforts (especially for children inflicted with cancer) haven’t gone unnoticed and one can see why Roberto Clemente is one of his heroes. Swisher wants our listeners to smile and make a difference in the lives of others.
