Brendan Hunt, a.k.a. Coach Beard on Ted Lasso, is back in his hometown of Chicago to open a one-man show at Steppenwolf Theatre: The Movement You Need. The title comes from “Hey Jude,” and Hunt's subject is how his mother and he bonded over the Beatles amid more troublesome aspects of their relationship. Here we bat around the Beatles and their appeal to parents and kids, all while so little current music sounds like them. Hunt also discusses the motivation and process of creating a one-man show, with Broadway in his sights. This emotionally loaded gig, with its eight performances a week, certainly requires much more talking than the laconic Coach Beard. Hunt reflects on his longtime collaboration with friend Jason Sudeikis; they're Ted Lasso co-creators/co-writers who previously worked together in the Amsterdam-based improv troupe Boom Chicago. Given that Sudeikis and Hunt initially characterized Ted Lasso as a three-part journey, how did they recalibrate to create the upcoming Season 4? (Photo by Robyn Von Swank)

That Show Hasn't Been Funny In Years: an SNL podcast on Radio Misfits

Nick heads back to January 10, 2009 to revisit the one and only time Neil Patrick Harris hosted Saturday Night Live. It turned out to be a terrific show, and Nick plays some of the funniest moments while sharing stories about how a few standout sketches from that season came together. He also talks about Harris' career arc, from child star on Doogie Howser, M.D. to Emmy-winning actor, singer, and all-around performer. A big turning point came with his scene-stealing role in Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle, and you'll hear the classic moment that helped launch the second half of his career. The episode showcases strong work from Kristen Wiig, Bobby Moynihan, Fred Armisen, Jason Sudeikis, Abby Elliott and more. It also features one of the funniest sketches of that era, a gathering of Broadway stars debating the future of the Great White Way. It's a strong reminder of how well that episode worked and why Harris was such a natural fit for the show. [Ep 167]

Description This week we're skipping the blockbusters for the weird, wild, and mostly forgotten gems. Grab your neural implants and alien blasters as we explore the sci-fi movies that time almost left behind. From cyberpunk head-scratchers to B-movie alien invasions, we revisit the fascinating, flawed, and surprisingly ambitious sci-fi films that didn't quite make the Hall of Fame, but absolutely deserve another look.   News Marvel Oreos - The Stuf of Legends has arrived with superhero-themed cookies.   Millennium Falcon Pilot Chair - A detailed rolling chair replica inspired by Han Solo's cockpit seat is now available.   The 'Burbs TV Series - A Peacock series inspired by the 1989 Tom Hanks classic quietly dropped all episodes.   The Mummy 4 - Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz return on May 19, 2028 for the next installment.   During the Super Bowl, we got new looks at The Mandalorian and Grogu, Project Hail Mary, Super Mario Galaxy, Supergirl, Disclosure Day, and The Adventures of Cliff Booth.   Check out our TeePublic store for some enjoyable swag and all the latest fashion trends What we're Enjoying Shua has been diving into Reacher, where the towering former military policeman dispenses his own brand of justice with quiet intensity and very loud punches. Based on the Lee Child novels, the series delivers tightly constructed mysteries and satisfying payoffs that make it perfect comfort viewing for action fans. Jay is revisiting Twin Peaks Season 1, soaking in David Lynch's wonderfully strange blend of soap opera melodrama and unsettling mystery. Between cherry pie, coffee, and cryptic dream sequences, it's a masterclass in mood and quirky storytelling that still feels fresh decades later.     Sci-Fi Saturdays -  This week on Sci-Fi Saturdays Jay looks at the forgotten sci-fi gem Colossal (2017). Gloria (Anne Hathaway), an out-of-work woman struggling with alcoholism, returns to her hometown only to discover she may somehow be connected to a giant monster attacking Seoul. It's a clever, genre-bending mix of kaiju chaos and personal drama, blending big sci-fi spectacle with intimate character study. Hathaway did a great job, and Jason Sudeikis plays against type in a role that's equal parts charming and unsettling. Read his article on RetroZap.com. And make sure to play around with the interactive map on MCULocationScout.com. Plus, you can tune in to SHIELD: Case Files where Jay and Shua talk about great stuff in the MCU.   Enjoy Movies!  The 1990s were packed with massive sci-fi blockbusters! But what about the ones that didn't dominate the multiplex? This week, Jay and Shua explore the fascinating middle tier of 90s science fiction: the cyber-thrillers, alien shootouts, dystopian futures, and existential thought experiments that lived just outside the spotlight.   From cult classics to genuine box office swings, they discuss why some of these films faded from pop culture memory while others quietly built loyal fanbases. It's a nostalgic, lighthearted look at the ambition, weirdness, and undeniable creativity that made 90s sci-fi such a strange and wonderful era. Which animated character would you pick?

That Show Hasn't Been Funny In Years: an SNL podcast on Radio Misfits

Nick takes a close look at one of the funniest recurring bits from Saturday Night Live in the 2000s, the “Scared Straight” sketches built around Kenan Thompson's unforgettable convict, Lorenzo McIntosh. Loosely inspired by the 1978 TV documentary of the same name, the scenes usually drop a group of clueless teenage punks into a police station, where Officer Sikorsky, played perfectly by Jason Sudeikis, decides the best teaching tool is unleashing Lorenzo. Nick digs into how the sketches came together, who was involved in writing them, and why the formula worked so well. Bill Hader, Andy Samberg, and Bobby Moynihan rotate through the terrified kids, while Thompson cranks the intensity to ridiculous levels. Along the way, you'll hear standout moments featuring guest appearances from Shia LaBeouf, Tracy Morgan, Zach Galifianakis, and an especially memorable turn by Betty White. It's a deep dive into a run of sketches that still hold up, showing off Thompson's commitment, Sudeikis's timing, and a cast that knew exactly how far to push the joke. [Ep 160]

That Show Hasn't Been Funny In Years: an SNL podcast on Radio Misfits

Nick digs into one of the most reliably funny corners of Saturday Night Live with a look at ESPN commentators Pete Twinkle and Greg Stink, the brilliantly odd duo played by Jason Sudeikis and Will Forte. Their mock coverage of women's sporting events from the 80s and 90s gave the show some of its sharpest absurdity, especially once the two started weaving in wildly inappropriate sponsor plugs for every imaginable personal product. The sketches came from the minds of Forte, John Lutz, and John Solomon, and Nick revisits several of them with guest appearances from Sigourney Weaver, Blake Lively, Will Ferrell, and a delightfully unhinged Tom Hanks. Along with the full scenes, he shares some behind the curtain stories that shed light on how these characters took shape and why they remain fan favorites. Pete Twinkle and Greg Stink get the celebration they deserve, and the laughs still land perfectly. [Ep 154]

I found a post that I've used before in my classes while teaching along with my players while coaching. This post came from The Winning Difference (@thewinningdiff1) and in the audio I share here in this episode, you can hear the passion, the love, the gratitude from Coach Jim Valvano.   “The gift my father gave me every day of my life was he believed in me. My father believed in me, he believed in me when I failed. When I didn't measure up to my standard or someone else's standard he'd look me in the eye and he'd say you're going to make it,” Jim Valvano.  There are so many instances of the importance of having belief in our lives.  Head Football Coach and one of my teachers, Tom Mach from my high school, Detroit Catholic Central would always have this saying from when he started teaching at coaching at CC in 1976 and he still shares it when he speaks to students, players, coaches & educators today! It's his phrase that is just one of many things he's best known for: "the magic is in believing," a mantra that has inspired countless students to embrace the power of their belief in God, your family, your team, your loved ones, along with others.  Finally in one of my favorite shows that I've ever watched, “Ted Lasso” starring Jason Sudeikis, has a main part of the series with his sign “Believe” that he hangs in their locker room and all the team / life connections that come with it. Do yourself a favor and find how to watch this show!!  One thing for sure, is from all of this I need to do a much better job in believing in others along with believing in myself even more. The world sure could use more of this of us believing & encouraging others.

Donnie Campbell is a longtime math teacher, four-decade coach, national leadership speaker, and the real-life inspiration behind the beloved TV character Ted Lasso. Donnie has spent 40 years shaping students and athletes with a simple but powerful philosophy: build people first, players second. Today, Donnie shares the lessons that humbled him during his early years at Kansas State, the shift that turned him from frustrated athlete to extraordinary teammate, and the coaching approach that shaped Jason Sudeikis long before Ted Lasso ever hit a screen. He also reflects on the heartbreaks that formed his empathy, the mentors who taught him to lead with kindness, and the unexpected day a coworker told him he'd inspired a global hit TV show. My friends, if you need a reminder that your influence matters far more than you'll ever realize, this conversation is for you. You'll leave this episode with simple, memorable tools for leading others well, showing up with humility, and believing in yourself even when you feel like you're sitting at the end of the bench. And most of all, you'll remember the truth Donnie has lived for 40 years: you don't have to be perfect to change someone's life… you just have to care.

That Show Hasn't Been Funny In Years: an SNL podcast on Radio Misfits

Nick dives into one of Saturday Night Live's strangest recurring sketches, Jason Sudeikis' “Maine Justice.” Set in a Bangor courtroom where everyone sounds like they're straight out of Louisiana, the sketch features Judge Marshall T. Boudreaux (Sudeikis), with appearances alongside Jamie Foxx and Justin Timberlake. Nick plays both performances in full, explores how the idea came to life, and shares an interview with Sudeikis and Seth Meyers breaking down the world of “Maine Justice.” The episode also highlights a connected oddball gem, “Potato Chip,” a sketch that features the same character and just as much off-the-wall humor. Fun fact: “Potato Chip” was the subject of the very first episode of THAT SHOW…, making this a full-circle return to the weird brilliance of Sudeikis' comedy. [EP 139]

For the Glory KC is back with the 141st episode of the show!Sporting Kansas City are slipping. Both in results and down the table. Their latest loss, a 3-0 shelling at the hands of the Vancouver Whitecaps, leaves them back in 13th place in the Western Conference and six points out of the final playoff spot with just 10 games to go.In fact, the team has won just three times in their last 13 attempts. The team is 3-5-5 in that stretch having picked up just one point in the last three games. Sheena and I try to figure out what is wrong. The team has started slow and the midgame adjustments from Kerry Zavagnin are strong, but is he making bad starting lineup choices? (More Jake Davis please! And perhaps a Santi Munoz start?)Maybe it's finally time for a different starting formation since the team is quick to switch to a back three in games, but they have yet to start a game in one. Or is it all an illusion and they just look good in the second half because of game state? When you are chasing the game and throwing numbers forward, of course you are going to create more chances, and your opponent is going to sit back a bit.We also discuss the transfer window, which opened this past week.
