Hogdale's out so we brought JustinMLB back to talk Red Sox offseason with Ed and Brady. Unfortunately, there's not a lot to chat about unless you're really into Cooper Criswell or Roberto Perez, so it's mostly Yamamoto talk. There's a surprising amount of disagreement as Brady has PTSD flashbacks to Daisuke Matsuzaka and makes a case for Jordan Montgomery. All this and more!

The Giants salvaged a game in the opening weekend series against the Kansas City Royals on the back of a lineup that has been very boom or bust. Lubman and Shasky discuss why the Giants have to find consistency in the lineup. Later, Roberto Perez's injury puts the Giants in a bind behind the plate for the next two months. Someone between Joey Bart, Blake Sabol, Gary Sanchez or Austin Wynns has to step up. There is no hiding that the Pirates catcher position has been a mess since the departure of Jacob Stallings a few seasons ago. The Indians get another win and gain even more ground on the Twins whose lead is down to 6.5 games. Carlos Santana goes yard again, as he continues to be one of the top hitters in baseball this year. There's been a lot of speculation since the Indians' season ended that the team was going to have to cut salary, and Yan Gomes was a name that has been frequently mentioned as a potential trade candidate. Gomes had a $7 million dollar guarantee in 2019, with two club options in 2020 and 2021 worth $20 million total. While it doesn't clear a ton of money in 2019, it does likely begin a process in which the Indians try and maintain their status as a World Series contender, while shedding salary and bringing in younger players. WFNY's Jim Pete, Mike Hattery, and Gage Will take a look at the Yan Gomes trade, and what it means going forward. The topics include: Yan Gomes value to the team over the years Roberto Perez stepping in as a starter thanks to his defense Eric Haase getting an opportunity to be a full time major leaguer 25-year old right hander Jefry Rodriguez, and how the Indians have an opportunity to develop him into a reliever 23-year old outfielder Daniel Johnson, and how he fits into the Indians future What are the Indians really doing here? Are they moving salary to bring in players, keep what they have, or are the just moving salary? Does moving Yan Gomes mean a Corey Kluber deal is imminent? Is Trevor Bauer trying to get traded? Conspiracy theories Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
In 2017, the big questions surrounding the catcher position was whether or not Roberto Perez could officially take over from Yan Gomes, who had struggled with injuries and offense over the previous two seasons. But Gomes managed to catch in 105 games, holding off Perez for another season. So, in 2018, the questions really haven't changed from last year. Can Gomes keep the job he recaptured in 2017? Will Roberto Perez finally take over, thanks to his defensive supremacy? Can the 50-50 tilt, teeter in one direction or another, or will both catchers split the duties again? Oh, and what about Francisco Mejia and Eric Haase, who both will likely find themselves either in Columbus, or Cleveland?
