It was announced this weekend that Philadelphia Phillies utility bench player, Weston Wilson, will miss significant time with an oblique strain. With free agency limited, do the Phillies look internally for the final spot and keep Kody Clemens, Buddy Kennedy or Oscar Mercado? Or could they go outside the organization and bring in a player with a proven track record like former Atlanta Braves outfielder Adam Duvall?
The Cincinnati Reds and St Louis Cardinals split a four-game series and nobody is happy about. Least of all Graham Ashcraft, Steven Matz, Tyler Stephenson, and Oscar Mercado. What do the Reds and Cardinals have to do to achieve their expectations this year? The Guardians made a move I have been asking for over a week now with the promotion of Alex Call and the release of Oscar Mercado. I don't know if Call is even as good as Mercado, but at the same time, Alex Call has worked his tail off and improved every year to take him from a borderline prospect to a player in the big leagues. He has earned this chance to play and it was nice to see the Guardians reward a player for steady improvement. We also discuss Franmil Reyes quandary. It was reported he might be on the target block. We explain why it both makes sense and makes no sense. In the end, I agree with the view though, and explain what in particular makes me think this was inside information given out. We discuss a minor trade that was made today between the Braves and the Royals. It involved a player who had been often rumored in Guardians deals over the last few years. It is also the rare trade that involved a draft pick changing hands. I talk about the player and why this type of trade could be an option for the Guardians going forward. If they are unable to consolidate for help now why it might make sense to consolidate prospect value for later. We talk about the win which saw THREE Guardians hit by pitches, which is interesting as that is an issue that White Sox fans often have with the Guardians. I expect we might see some players exit tomorrow's game early. We get into the win which brings the guardians back to .500 and point out our three stars of the game Nolan Jones (fourth day in a row), Franmil Reyes (stolen base leader), and Trevor Stephen (nails when needed). The Guardians made a lot of roster moves over the past few days. We got into all of them from the call-up of Gabriel Arias to the impending return of Oscar Mercado. I focus on the basic fact that it should not matter if a player is right-handed or left-handed if they can't hit. We focus on all the moves and explain why they were made. Next, we talk about the Saturday doubleheader. It was a pair of extremely disappointing games. The Guardians could have had a chance in the second game but seemingly gave up late. We talk about the performances, what went wrong and what few things were positive. We get to talk about the big win on Sunday which saw the continuation of a strong weekend for Franmil Reyes and the best start of the year for Triston McKenzie. We also get into some minor league talk. While Nolan Jones and Will Brennan are the players most know are performing well. But we spent some time on one of the hottest hitters in the Guardians minors Micah Pries. They missed all of 19 and 20 but is currently second in the Guardians minors in home runs in just his second minor league season after coming out of a tiny baseball program that currently has produced a total of .03 bWAR and just 50 games total in the big leagues and Pries has a chance to the greatest player in that program's history. 1. The Guardians have lost five in a row and tonight's game might have been the worst one of the lot. We get into a game that went so badly there was an infielder pitching and the Guardian's only scored run was due to a wild pitch. Yes, Ernie Clement does get one of the three stars in this one just for pitching. We also get into the recent struggles of Triston McKenzie. We have to ask if he can consistently elevate himself to be a more consistent front-of-the-line starter.2. We get into some old friend alerts with Oscar Mercado being claimed and Carlos Santana being traded. We talk about why certain players are unlikely to be trade targets for the Guardians even though it is becoming clearer and clearer that this team needs to add some help.3. We talk about how things have gone for the hitters since the first of May. It is clear that a lot of players are massively struggling and the question is is it due to bad luck or something else. We talk about who has hope for rebounds and who are the players who are unlikely to turn it around. We join the game as it is happening between the Cleveland Guardians and Minnesota Twins as they battle for first. In the ninth inning after Fanmil Reyes had tied it up late. We talk about the changes to the roster and the lineup. The Guardians made the correct moves in releasing Oscar Mercado while calling up Franmil Reyes. They also sent down their least effective reliever Nick Sandlin to add back in Aaron Civale. We also talk about what might be my favorite lineup card this entire year. Next up with talk about the game as it is happening. We talk about some minor league performers and players who are leaving the system. We also continue to take questions during the stream and give our thoughts as this game goes into extra innings. We end the very long episode after the game itself ends. We talk about why the future is so incredibly bright for this team. I continue to take questions and talk about some of the top performers in the minors, names to watch, and why this is just the beginning of greatness for the Cleveland guardians organization. We also take some time to celebrate as the Cleveland Guardians move into a tie for first place just like everyone expected back in March and in big part thanks to should be All-Star Andres Gimenez. Jeff Blair and Kevin Barker break down the Blue Jays' 4-3 loss to the Guardians at Progressive Field. They take your calls, and break down the start from Alek Manoah, and discuss Owen Miller and Oscar Mercado getting to both Tim Mayza and Adam Cimber (and if the time off affected them at all). They also get to the two-run single from Teoscar Hernandez, his first RBI since returning off the injured list, and look ahead to a potential return of Hyun-jin Ryu.The views and opinions expressed in this podcast are those of the hosts and guests and do not necessarily reflect the position of Rogers Sports & Media or any affiliates.
Three years after Johnny Depp filed a defamation lawsuit against his ex-wife Amber Heard, the case is going to trial Monday in Fairfax County Circuit Court in Virginia. Depp and Amber met on the set of "The Rum Diary" in 2009, married in 2015 and went on to be embroiled in a contentious split for months, with charges of bad behavior levied by both sides. In 2016 Heard alleged Depp bruised her face after hurling a phone at her in their Los Angeles home. Depp denied the allegation and was not charged with any crime. The couple settled their divorce months later, releasing a joint statement which read in part, "Our relationship was intensely passionate and at times volatile, but always bound by love." Spectators in the right field bleachers showered the warning track with trash and empty beer cans thrown in the direction of Guardians right fielder Oscar Mercado following Gleyber Torres' walk-off hit at Yankees Stadium. One projectile even hit an umpire trying to settle the scene down. In this snack-sized episode, Patti and Pottymouth hit the road to see some High-A baseball and record on location at Wilmington Brew Works. Yankees fans pelt Guardians outfielders with debris and it may be our fault for not including “Just don't throw shit on the field” in our ballpark rules. Myles Straw climbing the outfield wall to defend Steven Kwan inks him onto Patti's BF list for next year, and former bf Josh Naylor explains how things should have gone in absolutely NCiB terms. Hey Miggy, you're so fine! We can't not salute historic hit #3000. Kelsie Whitmore of the Staten Island Ferry Hawks pinch runs her way into the history books. In our Police Blotter, Tim Anderson flips off Cleveland fans and we explain the whole Yankee Letter situation. There's energizer Panda Power in the LMB. We saw the pitch clock in action during a highly efficient game between the Wilmington Blue Rocks and the Hickory Crawdads, then backed up our anecdotal findings with actual data. During its first 132 games in use, the current pitch clock rules have knocked an average of 20 minutes off of game time.We say “Mr. Celery,” “karma bit them in the butt,” and “Nakken rhymes with Kraken.”Get boosted, fight the man, and find us on Twitter @ncibpodcast, on Facebook @nocryinginbball, Instagram @nocryinginbball and on the Interweb at nocryinginbball.com. In this episode, we discussed the Nets' game 3 loss to the Celtics in the first round of the 2022 NBA Playoffs, why Steve Nash has to be fired after this season, and what needs to be done to this roster when the offseason comes about. We talked about the Yankees defeating the Guardians the past two games and the Yankee fans that were throwing bottles at Oscar Mercado from the Guardians. We closed out the show talking about the Jets and Giants' most recent mock drafts and why it is essential for the Jets to trade for Deebo Samuel. Follow Tony Paventa on Instagram: @tanooch96. Steven Kwan has made himself the story of the weekend. He has done things in his first three games that no player has done before now. He has been a force of nature at the top of the lineup. He is hitting .800 so far this year and has reached base three or more times in every game. Myles Straw is a player that both the Guardians and I had targeted for years. So it makes sense that they decided to lock him up for up to seven years. I explain why they signed him when they did and why this could be a harbinger of more extensions. We end by looking at the two games from this weekend. The Guardians' overtime hard-luck loss to the Kansas City Royals and Bobby Witt Jr. Along with the 17-3 shellacking they gave the Royals on Sunday with Oscar Mercado, Steven Kwan, and Jose Ramirez leading the way. I sit down virtually with Nash Walker of Locked on Twins. We get to talk baseball, and specifically focus on the AL Central. We talk Indians and Twins, we also talk about the central in general. This is your chance to hear what another expert on our network thinks about the Indians and their chances. We talk Eddie Rosario, Francisco Lindor, and so much more. Find out why I think the Twins are such a smart and well run organization. Find out what Nash thinks of the Indians chances, and where do we both think they end up when it comes to the playoff hunt for this year. This organizations are reverse mirrors of each other one that is very hitter focused and the other very pitcher focused the question is can either of them overcome the possibly more well rounded White Sox? Listen and find out what we think.- Eddie Rosario lineup discussion, and overall discussion of how much improvement he presents for the Indians against what they had last year- Nash tells us about the Eddie Rosario experience both the good and the bad- We talk centerfield, and what has happened to Oscar Mercado since 2019- Talk about interesting roster decisions by the Twins and Indians, We talk Jake Bauers and Brent Rooker- Then we talk about how the Twins have been more willing to try their young hitters than the Indians have been - Depth discussion how the Twins have it and the Indians do not- Then we talk about what it was like to make a run, and how that run to the World Series 2016 has informed a lot of Indians decisions- Then a Deep discussion on how the Twins have lost 18 playoff games in a row, the humor that the Indians pitching failed which was their strength and for the Twins their bats failed last year their strength - We end with our views on the American League Central ranks in general Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!Built BarBuilt Bar is a protein bar that tastes like a candy bar.
