What if the most powerful force for change is often the most invisible? In today's sermon, Pastor Pencil Boone highlights the life of Timothy, who, like the Invisible Woman from the Fantastic Four, embodies unwavering strength while often working behind the scenes. Drawing from Acts 16:1-5, Pastor Pencil reveals that Timothy was a vital stabilizing force and a faithful disciple of Paul, reminding us that true impact does not always come from being in the spotlight. By reflecting on Timothy's sincere faith—taught by his mother and grandmother—Pastor Pencil emphasizes that age does not determine one's capacity to multiply and mentor others in Christ. He challenges the congregation to reject self-imposed limitations, proclaiming that each person, regardless of age or perceived confidence, has the potential to lead and influence. The sermon calls everyone at City United to step into their role as multipliers, ensuring they commit the teachings of God to faithful individuals who can pass them on. Pastor Pencil urges, “What steps will you take to become a faithful and stable multiplier?” Now is the time to act and invest in the lives of others!

Andrew Gordon & John Humphrey unite for a Reaction & Review of Fantastic Four (2005), the action-packed superhero blockbuster that brought Marvel's First Family to the big screen! Directed by Tim Story (Barbershop, Ride Along), this early 2000s adaptation follows four astronauts who gain extraordinary powers after a cosmic radiation accident—setting the stage for one of the most iconic Marvel origin stories. Ioan Gruffudd (King Arthur, Titanic) stars as Reed Richards aka Mr. Fantastic, the brilliant but emotionally awkward scientist with the power of elasticity. Jessica Alba (Sin City, Into the Blue) plays Sue Storm aka the Invisible Woman, whose force fields and invisibility are matched by her inner strength and intelligence. Michael Chiklis (The Shield, American Horror Story) brings pathos and grit to Ben Grimm aka The Thing, a rock-skinned powerhouse grappling with his new form. Chris Evans (Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Knives Out) blazes onto the scene as Johnny Storm aka The Human Torch, whose cocky charm and flame powers light up the screen. The late Julian McMahon (Nip/Tuck, Charmed) menaces as Victor Von Doom aka Doctor Doom, a power-hungry industrialist turned metal-skinned tyrant. Kerry Washington (Scandal, Django Unchained) also stars as Alicia Masters, the kind-hearted sculptor who sees beyond Ben Grimm's monstrous exterior. From the unforgettable Brooklyn Bridge rescue scene to the climactic final battle with Doom, Fantastic Four features early 2000s Marvel flair, flashy powers, and crowd-pleasing teamwork. In Episode 2 of All the Buried Women, co-hosts Beth Allison Barr and Savannah Locke uncover the turbulent and hidden history of women in the Southern Baptist Convention. The story begins in the 1970s, an era of progress and pushback, and follows the journey of Kathy Hoppe, an ordained woman whose call to ministry intersected with a calculated takeover of the SBC. What happens when conviction collides with politics, and how do women respond when their calling is questioned? This episode reveals the invisible threads tying women's resilience to a denomination shaped by control and conflict. We reached out to the SBC, Paige Patterson, Darryl Gilyard, Tommy Gilmore, and the Council for National Policy for comment, and did not hear back. In 1940, Universal cashed in on the success of their Invisible Man films with a spin-off, The Invisible Woman, which was very much not a horror movie! Instead, we got an extremely slight and forgettable screwball comedy. Now, in 2025, our guest writer/video game narrative designer Stella Sacco has been tasked with creating a new darker, scarier and (if you can believe it) gayer version of The Invisible Woman for our Dark Universe! Our podcast partner for this episode is 52 Pickup, a show about the most important comic of the 21st century, and the greatest series you've never heard of. Studies reveal that 70% of women experience a sense of being overlooked socially and professionally once they hit 50. The term for this phenomenon is Invisible Woman Syndrome. In this episode, I am joined by Christine Morrison, who writes about the social constructs in the fashion, beauty and wellness industry that inform the way society views women, and the way women often feel about themselves as they get older. Christine Morrison's writing has appeared in print and online vehicles such as The Washington Post, The Boston Globe, The Quality Edit and Margot Magazine, among others, and in advertising campaigns for Alastin Skincare, French Connection, Juicy Couture and more. Prior to focusing on writing full-time, Morrison held leadership positions in the fashion and beauty industries, including serving as Global Vice President of Beauty and Apparel Marketing for Calvin Klein. Her forthcoming book, “Clothes Minded: Fashionable Essays About Finding Yourself,” – in which she reflects on the meaning behind, and the humor in, the relationship between her sartorial self and formation of identity – is slated to publish Spring, 2026. Growing up in a family deeply entrenched in the arts, Lori Alan naturally gravitated towards the stage and microphone. Her parents were theater majors who later ventured into advertising and directing, so it's no surprise that growing up in a creative environment played a pivotal role in shaping her career path. She looks back on the early stages of her career, including a Shakey's Pizza commercial she starred in that marked her initial foray into professional acting at the age of 5. Despite getting bullied for her unique voice, she chose to embrace her talent instead. After studying and pursuing a career in acting in New York, she decided to move to LA to explore new opportunities. This marked the beginning of her extensive work in voice acting, including iconic roles in "SpongeBob SquarePants" and "Family Guy". She shares how she honed her skills, her ability to adapt to different genres, and where she usually draws inspiration from in bringing characters to life. Lori also talks about her time in “Reefer Madness”, the show's success, and a memorable moment when she met Warren Beatty, who had once shown interest in her mother. Beyond her acting and voice career, she is also a dedicated voice acting coach, emphasizing the importance of studying the craft, being in the moment, and giving your all in whatever you do. Lori Alan is an award-winning actor, writer, producer, and coach who fell out of the womb sitting in front of a microphone. She is the voice of Pearl Krabs on the “SpongeBob SquarePants” animated series and among many other roles has brought to life Diane Simmons on “Family Guy”, Sue Richards aka The Invisible Woman on “The Fantastic Four”, and The Boss on the “Metal Gear Solid” video game series. She originated the role of Mae Coleman in the award-winning musical “Reefer Madness” in 1988, and is now reprising the same role in the current LA production. EPISODE 282 - We finish our coverage of John Byrne's FF with the issue where Sue Richards changes her name from The Invisible Girl to The Invisible Woman. It's a fine issue that mostly features She-Hulk breaking out of Psycho-Man's fear spell. We also learn the story of Pearla, Queen of the Microverse! We give some closing thoughts on John Byrne. For a good John Byrne issue, and there were many you got: strong confident storytelling, exciting purposeful battles, clearly told stories, a strong command of where your eye goes, and what your heart wants to know. Byrne in the 80s was iconic, truly one of the best and most popular creators in America. The shortcomings: his art starts to get sketchier as he strives to produce more. His faces look... honestly, the same? It's almost strange how that DOESN'T hurt the story telling. He gets more and more about the references. Although funny, he's best when he isn't doing a book which is billed as comedic first and foremost. But for the FF, he revitalized the comic, giving Kirby's creations an often upgraded portrayal. Next season: Peter Milligan's run on The Human Target
In this empowering episode of The Midlife Makeover Show, host Wendy Valentine sits down with Vicki Larson, an award-winning journalist and author who's reshaping the narrative on aging and relationships for women. As the author of "Not Too Old for That: How Women Are Changing the Story of Aging" and co-author of "The New I Do: Reshaping Marriage for Skeptics, Realists, and Rebels," Vicki is no stranger to confronting and dismantling outdated societal expectations. Join us as Vicki shares her personal journey of transformation following her midlife divorce, a pivotal moment that led her to question everything from marriage to motherhood to her own desires. Her candid discussion on the importance of self-reflection, embracing change, and learning to live with uncertainty is both enlightening and inspiring. As we explore the damaging effects of ageist and sexist stereotypes, Vicki offers a fresh perspective on how to live authentically and intentionally, regardless of age. Her upcoming book, "LATitude: How You Can Make a Live Apart Together Relationship Work," promises to be another thought-provoking read, challenging conventional views on romantic partnerships. This episode is a treasure trove of wisdom for those navigating midlife transitions, seeking to redefine relationships, or simply looking to live life on their own terms. Vicki's insights are a powerful reminder that it's never too late to ask yourself what you truly want and to take bold steps towards your most authentic life.
Stop Aging. Start Anti Aging and Becoming The Best Version of YOURSELF!t 45, it is said, women begin to loose a marketable quality in relationships and in their careers. The number 45 has become the demarcation between youthful vigor and gradual decline. The Invisible Woman Syndrome pinpoints this year as the marker of when we start to see the affects of aging and slowly fade into the corner. On February 2nd, 2020 it was a sequin studded moment of happenstance that the Invisible Woman Syndrome was graced with a new poster child. It was with choreographed precision produced by the Jennifer Lopez Team that millions gasped and knew our half-time as women could not be ignored. , Her performance was a prolific statement oozing in decadence and packaged with jaw dropping sexual bravado. J.LO orbited the pole on Super Bowl Sunday to be met with quiet admiration from ladies like myself as we witnessed a tiny crack in the collective attitude towards aging. With a leader like Jennifer Lopez at the helm we are equally bombarded with counter intuitive messages that our 50's shall be relegated to a space of decreased sexual appeal, decreased professional importance and a rapid influx of health issues . And leading the way are advertisers like Osteo Bi-Flex. @ostebi-flex #osteobiflex Marketing our Invisibility to the Masses. How 52 is marketed by Osteo Bi-Flex: She is the main character in an advertisement for a joint relief supplement (pictured above). She is visibly aged with long grey hair and costumed in an evergreen uniform of khakis and a practical cardigan. With the numbers 52 blazing on the screen you become acutely aware that this number represents the effort of a major corporation who capitalizes on further propagating the stereotype of the Invisible Woman. To be fair, this 52 year old woman looks happy- relishing her spinsterhood. However, behind the smile is a dedicated marketing machine pedaling a message of mid-century malaise. It is a message that has been solidified and sold to the masses that our relevance in society diminishes at a rapid rate as we enter our fifth decade. Visit our website and share your story!
