We also touch on the concept of 'playing by ear' and how Sandy's dedication to mastering the harmonica has led him to achieve international recognition in competitions.Sandy's sense of humor shines through as he shares the quirks of the harmonica world, like how he can coax out unexpected notes through various techniques. Listeners will be treated to an impromptu performance, showcasing Sandy's talent and the versatility of the harmonica. Even if the Cardinals were in a pennant race, the return of Yadier Molina to the dugout would have been big news. Daniel (@C70) and Allen (@amedlock1) talk about the return of the legend, how that impacted the feel of Friday night's game, and what that means for his future. The guys also talk a lot about the front office and their approach to 2026 plus the future of Nolan Arenado. Come join us! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
The trade deadline has come and gone and for the second time in three years, the Cardinals have focused on sending players away rather than bringing players in. Daniel (@C70) and Allen (@amedlock1) don't get too much into what the return was because there are much better prospect evaluators out there. Instead, they talk about what the deadline means for the rest of the year, what it means for this offseason, and how the next couple of months might shake out. We didn't trade our closer, though, and Rich (@remembirds) is here to talk about the hiring of Joe Torre as manager. Come join the discussion! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
With the trade deadline looming, there were plenty of topics for Daniel (@C70) and Allen (@amedlock1) to touch on in this week's show. Does the rebound against the Padres at all negate the stumbles against the Diamondbacks and Rockies? Will the Cardinals be tempted to not sell? Plus the guys touch on the sort-of-surprising-but-not-really release of Erick Fedde. Then they tackle the trade deadline, wondering what the return on some players might be. All this and a history moment from Rich at Remembirds! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
It's the pause that refreshes. Or, if you are like Allen (@amedlock1), the pause that drives you crazy. Baseball took its annual hiatus this week to put on the All-Star festivities. That part Allen liked, though Daniel (@C70) had his old man grumbles with it, but the lack of Cardinals baseball has been notable. Do the next 65 games matter or does the season really come down to the next six? The guys talk about the direction the club could go, how the apparent return of Jordan Walker might impact the playoff push (if there is one), and how much impact Chaim Bloom currently has. They also touch on the draft and a few other topics. Give it a listen! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Every week, two of the Best Fans in Baseball (TM) bring you all the news and analysis you need about the St. Louis Cardinals. This week, Daniel (@C70) and David (@iPopEditor) tag in Allen Medlock (@amedlock1) of Meet Me at Musial fame in a simulcast of the two shows. David breaks down the pick of Liam Doyle and what that means for the near and long-term future, then bows out as Allen and Daniel talk about the first part of the season and what to look for in the second one. A supersized show (that is the same as this week's MMM so you won't want to listen to them both)!
The end of the nominal "first half" of the Cardinals' 2025 season came on Sunday and to mark the occasion, we mixed our Gateway in with our Musial. David Jones (@iPopEditor) joins Allen (@amedlock1) and Daniel (@C70) to break down the first pick of the draft for St. Louis and all the various repercussions of the selection. Then Daniel and Allen spend time talking about the end of the first part of the season and what they are looking for as the season picks up on Friday. Supersized episode for a special day! 1941 - At the All-Star Game at Briggs Stadium, Ted Williams, hitting .405 at the break, homers off Chicago Cubs P Claude Passeau with two out and two on in the ninth inning to give the American League a dramatic 7 - 5 victory. Williams's 4 RBI are matched by National League SS Arky Vaughan, who hits homers in the seventh and eighth. Williams would end the season hitting .406 and is the last batter in MLB history to reach that mark. 1962: With home runs in his first three at bats, 41-year-old Stan Musial of the Cardinals not only becomes the oldest player to hit three in a game but also ties the major-league record of four straight home runs, as the Cards whip the Mets, 15 - 1. His home run in the second game the day before won the game, 3 - 2. Musial's .924 OPS is the highest of any player 41 years or older in the history of the game. He retired after the 1963 season as one of the top 10 players to ever play the game of baseball. 2001: A librarian finds an 1823 reference to "base ball" marking the earliest known reference to the game. No, there aren't any actual stars in this one, just Daniel (@C70) and Allen (@amedlock1) talking baseball on the Fourth of July. The Cardinals hit the highs and the lows of the roller coaster this week, sweeping the Guardians while not scoring against the Pirates. Where does that leave the team? There's more trade deadline talk, especially about Steven Matz and Ryan Helsley. Could the Cardinals even try to make room for JJ Wetherholt? And who will be the Cardinals All-Star this season? All that and much more! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
With Allen (@amedlock1) kicking back on an Hawaiian beach, Daniel (@C70) sits down with Eugene Tucker (@I_am_not_Eugene) to talk about all things Cardinals. The guys dive into Eugene's Substack and how the 100th anniversary of the Cardinals inspired it, then talk more about the week that was. The focus is on the Cubs series split and the emotions that come out of that. Is Pete Crow-Armstrong the newest Cub we love to hate? What should be done at the trade deadline? The guys also talk about the cyclical nature of the sport and whether we can be happy even if they don't win the World Series. Come listen in on the conversation! Learn more about your ad choices. A sweep of the White Sox helped salvage a week that started with a series loss to the Brewers. Daniel (@C70) and Allen (@amedlock1) talk about the historic nature of it with Steven Matz, Nolan Arenado, and Andre Granillo. The guys talk about Victor Scott and his sputtering offense and how the club can get Nolan Gorman into the lineup regularly while he's going strong. Plus the guys look ahead to the important homestand starting Friday. Plenty of good Cardinals talk for you! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
After 22 straight weeks of great guests, the best part of the show is back. Allen (@amedlock1) settles back into the co-host chair with an update on how his season went and Daniel (@C70) talks briefly about Blogger Day before the guys dive into a spiraling Cardinals team. Is it time to panic? What's going wrong, what's going right? Does it even make sense to think about the trade deadline? All that plus Rich (@remembirds) bringing us knowledge about Joaquin Andujar! With Allen Medlock (@amedlock1) beginning his warmup tosses, Daniel (@C70) brings in Musial veteran Alex Crisafulli (@alexcards79.bsky.social) to talk about the current run of the Cardinals. Where else can you hear Craig Paquette get name dropped, the 2004 Cardinals referenced, and Brendon Donovan tied to Tommy Pham? Plus there's some classic old man rants in here as well and more All-Star talk than you'd expect at the end of May. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

As Allen Medlock (@amedlock1) gets closer to returning, Daniel (@C70) adds some new guests to the rotation. Tom and Jon are cohosts of St. Louis Cardinals: Beyond the HOF - Saluting Unsung Heroes, a Cardinals history podcast that looks at some players that can get overlooked at times. The guys talk about how they met up to do the show, how they get their guests, and which moments have stuck out to them so far. The current team isn't left out either, as the guys talk about the improved work of the Cardinals, what this team will be owed at the deadline, and what player on the roster might be the best subject of a similar podcast in the far future. Plus, to add to the history, we've got Rich (@remembirds) talking about the George Hendrick trade. As the Cardinals continue to pile up wins and make noise in the NL Central, Daniel (@C70) talks it over with Richard McGill (@RichardMcGill89). The two talk about their own birds leaving the nest before getting into the Cards flying high. How long will it last? Should we talking about the trade deadline? How should the club juggle Ivan Herrera and the rest of the catching corps? Plus a little look at the upcoming draft. Come give it a listen! Learn more about your ad choices. As the Cardinals put the finishing touches on their sixth win in a row, Daniel (@C70) sits down with Josh Jacobs (@joshjaco98) to talk about a team that, at the moment, looks pretty good. The offense is clicking and got Ivan Herrera back, even though he's not currently behind the plate. Will that change? John Mozeliak said that the runway for Nolan Gorman and Jordan Walker isn't infinite. How does that impact the two going forward? The guys also talk about the rotation and the bullpen before tackling the tough question: what happens if this team is in contention at the All-Star Break? Plus a great moment from Rich (@remembirds) about an awesome pitching performance. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
We've got a month of baseball under our belts and who better to talk about the highs and lows but the men of the Cardinals Off Day podcast? The Bens Godar (bengodar.bsky.social) and Humphrey (bgh.bsky.social) join Daniel (@C70) to talk about how things are going with the Cardinals. How much runway will Nolan Gorman and Jordan Walker really get? Who has stood out offensively? Can we say nice things about Miles Mikolas? All that and a discussion about the Cardinal Hall of Fame additions in this one! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
It's always a treat when minor league guru Kyle Reis (@kyler416) makes an appearance on the show. Not one of those store brand kind of treats, but one of those homemade ones that might turn out a little off and it'll make a mess all over the kitchen. Daniel (@C70) plays straight man, trying to keep a dog-focused Kyle talking about the Cardinals' bullpen situation and the emergence of Victor Scott II. Plus there's the expected run through the minor league system, so there's plenty of knowledge there. And Rich (@remembirds) is here to talk about Fernando Tatis! Learn more about your ad choices. As the Cards drop a heartbreaker to the Mets, Daniel (@C70) talks it over with Nate from Talking About Birds (talkingaboutbirds.com). The guys talk about some of the frustrations about the bullpen, rave over Brendan Donovan's start, and then get into some of the other issues of the day. What are the Cardinals doing with Nolan Gorman? What happens when Masyn Winn returns next week? Is having a "defensive closer" really what the club needs? The guys also talk about the rotation and the upswing of Jordan Walker. No Bens were used in the making of this podcast. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
With the Cardinals starting their second homestand, Daniel (@C70) breaks it down with Ben Clemens (Fangraphs, @benclemens.bsky.social). What does Ben think about how this team is constructed? A week of baseball and the Cardinals are....good? At least not bad? Daniel (@C70) talks it over with Kelsey Burd (@kburdtweets.bsky.social) and the two try to get a grip on what's happening with the Cardinals. You mean that an offense can be exciting? That you don't have to have three hits to score a run? This is going to take some getting used to. Twins beat writer is hard to come to terms with as Matthew was the Cardinals beat writer for MLB.com until 2011. They talk about Matthew's journey back to beat writing, how the Twins are looking, and his thoughts about the state of the Cardinals from the outside looking in. Then Daniel brings in Thomas Gauvain (@thomasgauvain) of Redbird Rants to talk about the first two games of the season. How is Oli Marmol going to juggle the lineup? He highlights things that he learned and stories that came out of his research on one of the most interesting Series out there. We thought this day would never come. After a closed wallet winter, the Cardinals finally dipped their toes into the free agent pool, signing local boy Phil Maton to a one year deal. Daniel (@C70) breaks it all down with Dayn Perry (Birdy Work, @daynperry.bsky.social). Jordan Walker avoided injury this week but are there still concerns about him? How surprising is it that some young guys have already been sent down while others are still on the club?
