Joined this week by Mr. Fully Involved himself, the one and only Mark vonAppen. It promises to be an awesome conversation as one of my most influential mentors comes back on the Scrap! We discuss how decisions made at the mid-level shape culture, trust, and long-term performance within organizations. How he likes to emphasizes accountability without ego, discipline without arrogance, and the idea that credibility is built through consistent action, not position. We planned to address the challenges firefighters face: ethical gray areas, top-down pressure, burnout, and the tension between policy and people. Of course as always the best thought out topics of me and the guest got beutifully hijacked by the wonderful questions from the audience. Enjoy the episode!!!

Why equity is the new standard for talent retention.Big 4 TransparencyBy Dominic Piscopo, CPAFor CPA TrendlinesFull show notes hereJeremy Dubow, CEO and co-founder of Chicago-based Prosperity Partners, explains how entrepreneurship in accounting has shifted from demand-driven to capacity-constrained, and why transparent equity programs are becoming the new standard for talent retention.MORE Dominic Piscopo | MORE Private Equity | MORE Pay & CompensationDubow joins Dominic Piscopo on the Big 4 Transparency show to discuss how accounting-firm entrepreneurship and the operating model required to scale have changed since he co-founded NDH in 2003. Neues Jahr, neue Folgen Cross Court! Sophie und Stefan diskutieren, was Hoffnung und was Sorgen macht. State societies can evolve into engines of innovation, education, and workforce resilience.Big 4 TransparencyBy Dominic Piscopo, CPAFor CPA TrendlinesAt a time when the accounting profession is undergoing its most rapid transformation in decades, Jen Cryder, CEO of the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA), is quietly redefining what a state CPA society can (and arguably should) become. MORE Dominic Piscopo | MORE Private Equity | MORE Pay & Compensation In this episode of the Big 4 Transparency Podcast, Cryder joins host Dominic Piscopo to discuss how advocacy, revenue diversification, and technology investment are converging to reshape the future of the CPA profession. Cryder, who spent 15 years in public accounting before joining PICPA more than a decade ago, now finds herself at the center of national conversations around licensure reform, continuing professional education (CPE), and the evolving definition of what it means to be a CPA. While state societies have historically focused on a relatively narrow set of services, Cryder argues that the profession's accelerating rate of change has expanded that mandate dramatically. “For most of our 130-year history, the definition of a CPA was fairly static,” she notes. “In just the last few years, that list of issues has become infinite.”

Monday Hour 2: Big 4 hoops, Ben Hutchens & Faceoff
We're off to a brand-new Hobie Fishing Series location for Round 7 at Wallaga Lake, on the NSW South Coast, held 13–14 September — and like most new venues, the hype was real. The setting? Almost perfect. Warm September weather, light winds, and what might be the best Hobie event launch I've ever seen: a sandy beach with a clean drop-off, a brilliant Big4 setup, and even a food truck doing coffees and bacon & egg rolls from early. The fishing though… totally different story. This round was tough — 55 donuts on Saturday — yet we still saw cracking fish come across the scales, including a phenomenal 6-fish bag over 6kg, which is massive for a NSW Hobie event. In this episode you'll hear three different approaches that produced Top 3 results, with interviews from: Chris Byrne (3rd) — creek mission, slow snag fishing, weedless plastics and a Nomad shrimp bite Jamie Cole (2nd) — Cookie stealth blades early, then a late adjustment that delivered big upgrades Jason Marshall (1st) — no prefish, a dominant win, and the key adjustments that separated him from the field Key event notes & stats Fish Activity Wheel: 28 (Sat) → 13 (Sun) Tides: Low 5:54am (0.4m) / High 12:27pm (1.47m) Saturday; Low 6:49am / High 1:30pm (1.43m) Sunday Saturday donuts: 55 Big Bream: Jason Marshall — 1.33kg Monster Mover: Carl Dubois — 1.57kg Young Angler: Ethan Howard — 0.87kg Masters: Peter Nord — 4 fish for 2.16kg Plus, I share how my weekend played out — including finally jagging two fish late on Sunday after being part of the Saturday donut club — and what's coming next in the Hobie season. Integrated planning, not heroics, creates life-changing outcomes for clients.Big 4 TransparencyBy Dominic Piscopo, CPAFor CPA TrendlinesWhat happens when you fuse a CPA firm with a wealth advisory under one roof and design the operations from a blank page? In this two-guest episode of the Big 4 Transparency, host Dominic Piscopo sits down with Owen Pryor and Steve Blake, managing and senior managing advisors at Evans May Advisory, the sister firm to Evans May Wealth Advisory. Their premise is simple and radical: serve the client with unreasonable hospitality, align wealth and tax strategy, and deliver family-office convenience to high-net-worth families and growing owner-operated businesses. MORE Dominic Piscopo | MORE Private Equity | MORE Pay & Compensation Pryor and Blake describe a system built on proactive data sharing (with client consents in place) so the firm, not the client, chases documents, coordinates advisors, and executes. The impact shows up in small, high-leverage wins (e-paying taxes and killing paper vouchers, physically banking clients' mailed checks twice a week, fully recording receivables) and in headline outcomes (structuring a family-farm sale from an estimated $550,000 tax bill to near $0 through planning; spotting missed depreciation and back-catching via Form 3115; introducing lesser-known international strategies like ICDIS where relevant). The result is relief for clients and measurable ROI that converts conversations into scope.

In this episode of the Big 4 Transparency, host Dominic Piscopo sits down with Mark Gallegos, tax partner at Porte Brown, to explore how a self-described “tax geek” became an eminence engine by teaching, writing, and speaking across the country while translating the new HR1 legislation into clear moves for clients. MORE Dominic Piscopo | MORE Private Equity | MORE Pay & Compensation Gallegos serves on the AICPA Strategic Tax Reform Advisory Group (“strike force”), where volunteer experts parse bills, surface practitioner pain points, and help shape the letters and asks that go to Treasury, IRS, and Capitol Hill. When Deloitte refunded part of the A$439,000 it was paid by the Australian government for a report riddled with AI-generated errors, it seemed like the perfect moment to slow down. Instead, the firm doubled down and announced a global rollout of Anthropic's Claude to nearly half a million employees. That decision captures the strange new logic shaping the Big 4 consulting companies. PwC, EY, KPMG, and Deloitte are no longer just using AI, they are performing it.Audit and tax work has slowed, regulation is tightening, and growth now depends on signalling technological boldness. In this new credibility economy, hesitation looks worse than failure. A mistake is no longer a crisis; it has become proof that you are early. But as every firm rushes to prove its AI edge, sameness is setting in, and the next real differentiator may not be accuracy at all. What could it be then?Tune in.
I've wanted to do this show for a long time. It's personal to me. This is on what I call the big four weight loss drugs. Ozempic, Wegovy, Zepbound and Mountjaro. And the reason I wanted to do this show was because I was struggling with some weight issues and went to see my primary care doc, and she goes, well, let's just go ahead and give you Wegovy. And I thought, you know, I think I'm going to go find a weight loss clinic. I'm going to get into a program and see what I can do. And I did. So I'll let you know how that went, but also that it made me think about these products and I started doing a little research, started looking around, and I'm like, you know what? We don't know what we don't know. And it gave me, some significant hesitation about using these, so this show today is about that. It's about what do we know? What don't we know? What do we know that are side effects, potential problems down the road for other kinds of diseases and comorbidities because most studies go back only 3.5 years or less. Some additional questions are: What are the long-term effects and what happens if you're on them on them for a lifetime? I'll also review the manufacturer country Green List, so if you are getting one of these from another country to save cost, which are considered safest. We have the research, and I'll lay it out in detail in this episode and I'll let you know what I think. The studies we've referenced are listed below. Throughout almost 100 episodes of the Good Future podcast we've traced the evolution of the sustainable investment sector. But now we're entering a new era of sustainable finance, where climate risk reporting, impact measurement and climate-tech innovation have become core parts of investment management. Sustainable investing has matured, and that's in large part due to a global push to define precisely what it means to be ‘sustainable', with a huge contribution being made by the development of sustainable finance taxonomies all over the world. Last month we saw the launch of Australia's very own Taxonomy, and today we're joined by the perfect guest to help us make sense of it all., and that's Linda Romanovska. She helps us understand why it's important, how we can use it, and how it compares and interacts with other global models. Linda is a global taxonomy expert, she's contributed to the development of sustainable finance taxonomies in the EU, South Asia and right here in Australia. At the same time she's worked as a senior sustainable finance advisor working with boutique consultancies as well as the Big4. And if that's not enough to keep her busy, she's also doing a PHD exploring the intersection of nature and sustainable finance. I learned so much in this episode, and I hope you do too. Linda's insights are really practical, breaking down the nature of a taxonomy within the global context, highlighting sectors where it has the potential to make an impact, and, how it fits within the broader sustainable finance roadmap in Australia. Also, we've produced a One-page Taxonomy FIELD GUIDE. Outlining the key opportunities of aligning a portfolio with the Australian framework, and how it compares globally.Find it on my website at www.Johntreadgold.com While you're there you can find all the show notes for the episode, and you can sign up for my newsletter where I share regular impact insights, plus, you'll be the first to know about new podcast episodes as they drop. Enjoy!
