He was exposed to various culinary experiences prior to his family moving to Brooklyn NY. After graduating high school, he studied culinary arts at the Art Institute of New York City. When his career landed him at Buddakan restaurant in NYC he developed a passion for Asian cuisine.   During his five years there he trained with a master dim sum chef and perfected the art of cooking dumpling as well as making Asian sauces and fried rice. He was a junior sous-chef at Buddakan in 2010 when he was invited to compete on the Food Network’s hit cooking show, “Chopped.” After winning Season 4 of Chopped, many doors for Chef Ed, including a chance to compete on “Iron Chef International.”   Chef Ed Harris moved to Atlanta in 2012 and started his own consulting firm “Chef Life Consulting.” Through his company he does private in-home dinners and restaurant consulting to train staff and update menus.   He also has monthly pop up dinner under the name “Oriyaky” which is spin on his wife’s name and an ode to his love for Asian cuisine. Now Trending on ICONICLIFE.COM Artist Niki Woehler Brings Creativity and Color to Design ICONIC HAUS 2020 Scottsdale contemporary artist Niki Woehler, specializes in both organic, textural canvas works, as well as abstract high-gloss resin art panels and customized waterproof art installations emphasizing rich color that often resemble stone scattered with minerals. Her large-scale art pieces have caught eyes worldwide and is currently represented by Forré & Co Fine Art Galleries in both Aspen and Vail, Colorado, Slate Gray Gallery in Telluride Colorado and Kerrville TX and The Broadmoor Galleries at the iconic Broadmoor Hotel in Colorado Springs. Niki is one of a select few artists invited to show at the Found:Re Hotel, an upscale boutique hotel dedicated to the visual arts downtown Phoenix. One of Niki’s works, Silent Partners was handpicked from more than 1100 submissions to be part of a group show titled “Face Off” at the Herberger Theater Gallery and just took first place at the Arizona State Fair Fine Art competition. But for the right space, they must all converge seamlessly and create a feeling the client loves. Even more so, they should be timeless and reflect the personal lifestyle of the homeowner. And that’s exactly what Anita Lang, ASID and founder of Scottsdale-based IMI Design (est. 1992), does. Lang, who has been designing for more than two decades, always knew she had an eye for design. “I really think every human being has a gift to share with each other,” she says. “I happen to see spatially; it’s funny, as a young person, I didn’t realize others couldn’t. It took me awhile to understand it is the way my mind is particularly wired.” As an authority in her field, her straightforward and experienced approach is of service to clients across the spectrum including residential, commercial, and hotel properties in across the U.S. and international destinations, as well. Anita, is a dear friend, a well-connected industry insider and will be designing the living room in ICONIC HAUS 2020, which we are very excited about. I met with her recently to discuss the difference between designing for clients on the East Coast versus clients on the West Coast that we are affectionately calling Manhattan to Manhattan Beach. Anita shares her creative process, starting out with a mediation to bring herself into the creative zone as well as the problem-solving aspect of being a designer. Inspiration for design can be found everywhere, Anita shares how her travels and everything she is exposed to influence her design decisions as well as the travels and experiences of her clients. While the estate’s 600 picturesque acres gracefully drape over Mt. George, only 60 are suited for the cultivation of grapes (particularly Cabernet Sauvignon). However, Julio and Amalia embraced the challenge of building a new winery from the ground up—and then some—with many of the winemaking facilities getting built in to the mountain. There was also an understanding among all members of the Palmaz family—which includes daughter Florencia, son Christian, daughter-in-law Jessica and, by extension, head winemaker Tina Mitchell, son and assistant winemaker Doug Mitchell, and consulting winemaker Mia Klein—that even if the scale of production was small and carefully planned (given the area‘s geological idiosyncrasies), the effort to create premium wines would be all encompassing, collaborative, and greater than the sum of its proverbial parts. In our interview with Christian Palmaz, he shares stories of the daily life of a family business in an idealic location and details how the fermentation tanks are uniquely engineered and paired with each parcel in the vineyard, adding it’s an approach that has not surprisingly inspired other wineries to inquire about implementing the breakthrough research in viticulture and enology into their operations.
