Dale Earnhardt Jr. sits down with Ryan Preece, driver of the RFK Racing 60 Cup car, on this episode of the Download. They talk about Ryan's authentic path to the Cup Series, his 2025 race for the Playoffs, what it's like to flip in a car, and much more. After growing up in a racing family in Connecticut, Ryan ventured into his racing career through quarter midgets and micro sprints. After experiencing early success, he took a chance driving a tour-type modified when he was 14 years old. He immediately took to the car, and his father soon acquired a 1993 Troyer chassis. Since the minimum racing age in Connecticut was 16, Ryan explains he and his father began traveling to Pennsylvania, North Carolina, and Florida to get more seat time and experience. This time and effort paid off, and in 2008, Ryan began winning high-profile modified races, including the famed NASCAR Whelen Modified event at Martinsville.Ryan would go on to win the 2013 NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour Championship, and through longtime car owner Tommy Baldwin, he began getting opportunities in the Xfinity and Cup series. He recalls a time he had to raise a large amount of money to have the opportunity to drive some select races for Joe Gibbs in Xfinity, which led to him winning at Iowa in 2017, which he considers to be a life-changing moment. In 2019, Kevin Harvick would help Ryan find a full-time Cup opportunity with JTG Daugherty Racing, replacing AJ Allmendinger. When the ride would shut down at the end of the 2021 season, Ryan again bet on himself and returned to the Trucks and Xfinity ranks, winning races to generate more opportunities in the upper ranks. This came at Stewart-Haas Racing in 2023, driving the 41 Cup ride. When SHR ceased operation after the 2024 season, Ryan received a call from Brad Keselowski about running a third car at RFK Racing, where he has consistently impressed throughout the 2025 season. And for more content check out our YouTube page: https://www.youtube.com/@DirtyMoMediaDirty Mo Media is launching a new e-commerce merch line! Chad Dittberner of Werner talks about supply chain sustainability - challenges, alternative fuels, cost, partnerships, and why it's a strategic advantage.     IN THIS EPISODE WE DISCUSS:   [04.09] Chad's 32-year career at Werner, and an introduction to their Innovation Council and what it does. [06.37] The biggest sustainability challenges for the industry, and for Werner clients. “It can be messy aligning goals and initiatives. The overall pressure to reduce greenhouse gases is immense. There's progress in so many different things… But solutions aren't widely available at scale, especially in long-haul operations… And most of those solutions come with a premium cost.” [10.13] Why sustainability is good business, not just the right thing to do, and why it's a strategic advantage for Werner. [12.23] How Werner are helping organizations approach their sustainability efforts, a closer look at alternative fuels like bio and renewable, and what a future-ready fleet might look like. “What people often forget… is that the newest trucks on the roadway are very efficient and their emissions are much lower. So we believe in keeping the cleanest trucks on the road. Our average age of truck is just over two years old, the industry average is six plus.” [19.29] The impact of sustainability investments in both the short and longer term. “It's tough. We do a lot of exercises, and a lot them end with: ‘Whoa, I didn't want to pay any more money for that.' But we have to share that cost if it's going to work. Short-term, there are some operational costs incurred to get emissions savings and efficiency gains. But we're seeing many shippers who are prioritizing partnerships with carriers that can demonstrate sustainability progress.” [21.11] The importance of data for making smart decisions, and how Werner give real-time insight into sustainability issues like emissions. “It's a lot of information, it's a daily capture of fuel economies… and you're talking about millions of miles run every day. It becomes very difficult to do it in an Excel spreadsheet!” [23.27] How Werner use data to scorecard and report their own sustainability performance, and demonstrate their successes to inspire others. [26.11] Why it's so important that logistics solutions are scalable and built for sustainability. “To get real impact, efficiency requires solutions… And ultimately all of our big shippers want real solutions. Not just one lane, not just once in a while – they want it every day… It has to be scalable.” [29.17] Two case studies highlighting how Werner helped a food client overcome challenges to successfully establish an electric fleet, and helped another client add devices to trailers and save 3% in fuel economy. “Companies have different themes of what they're working towards. So we need to know where we are today and where we're looking to go tomorrow.” [33.52] From solar charging to carbon capture, the sustainability innovations Werner have their eye on for the future.   RESOURCES AND LINKS MENTIONED:   Head over to Werner's website to find out more and discover how they could help you too. You'll hear about other techs like automatic emergency braking, some mention of flexibiltiies in the hours of service, about ELDs, unauthorized immigration and credentials fraud with practices like CDLs illegally procured for cash. What you won't hear is any mention of the term "non-domiciled CDL," though in response to a question from Senator Bernie Moreno (Republican of Ohio), Teamsters President O'Brien referenced carriers recruiting drivers for temporary work in the U.S. from overseas. The non-domiciled CDL is a credential that U.S. states can issue to such drivers, who don't have permanent immigration status in the U.S. but rather hold temporary work authorization. Some states don't issue these CDLs, and many others haven't been issuing non-domciled CDLs this way for very long, but the practice has certainly taken off over the last several years. Overdrive's own Alex Lockie's last-week-released research showed recent-years growth in states all around the nation with a 50-state accounting -- download the 20-page report via this link: https://overdriveonline.com/15750917 There's a whole lot more than just CDL issuance issues to chew on when it comes the next highway bill, of course. Shoot us a Text.Episode #1101: Today we talk about how AI is quietly reshaping the workforce under the guise of “restructuring.” GM reports a profit dip but revs up electrified truck updates to meet shifting demands. Finally, California launches an innovative apprenticeship program to tackle the auto tech shortage head-on.GM's Q2 net income fell 35%, hit by $1.1 billion in tariffs, but the company holds firm on full-year profit goals. CEO Mary Barra highlights strategic moves to align with consumer demand. Meanwhile, GMC is updating its trucks and SUVs with plug-in hybrids arriving in 2027 and EV redesigns planned.Q2 revenue dropped 1.8% to $47.1 billion; North American pretax profit down 46%.Tariffs expected to cut profits by $4-$5 billion this year.GMC's Sierra and Yukon will add plug-in hybrids in 2027, with EV Sierra redesign in 2028.Hummer EV and other models due for updates through 2029.Barra: “We'll emerge from this transition stronger and more profitable than before.”California dealers are tackling the nationwide shortage of skilled auto techs with a new apprenticeship program. The initiative lets aspiring technicians learn on the job without upfront costs, offering wages, tools, and a U.S. Department of Labor certification after two years.CNCDA reports 400,000 tech job openings nationwide; California alone needs 5,000 more. The shift to EVs and retiring experienced techs are worsening the shortage.Apprenticeship pays a fair wage, requires no tuition, and includes e-learning tools.Open to anyone, especially those 18-30 without college degrees, aiming to avoid student debt.“This program offers a practical path to a lucrative career without the burden of traditional schooling,” said CNCDA representatives. While companies rarely admit it publicly, AI technology is increasingly driving workforce reductions disguised as restructuring or optimization. Early layoffs have targeted 1099 freelancers, especially in content and creative roles, HR, and Customer Service as firms cautiously phase in AI tools before affecting full-time employees.IBM and Klarna have been among the few transparent about AI replacing some jobs despite overall growth.Companies often use euphemisms like “restructuring,” “reorganization,” “optimization,” and “business efficiency” to mask AI-driven job cuts and avoid backlash. When AI falls short, companies often outsource work globally instead of rehiring domestically.“AI might automate 70% to 90% of a process, but the last mile still needs the human touch, especiallJoin Paul J Daly and Kyle Mountsier every morning for the Automotive State of the Union podcast as they connect the dots across car dealerships, retail trends, emerging tech like AI, and cultural shifts—bringing clarity, speed, and people-first insight to automotive leaders navigating a rapidly changing industry.Get the Daily Push Back email at https://www.asotu.com/ JOIN the conversation on LinkedIn at: https://www.linkedin.com/company/asotu/
