Boomshakalaka! This week, we're revisiting our long-lost episode, and we're doing it in style. We played the arcade-sports classic NBA HANGTIME and its sequel, the awkwardly-named NBA SHOWTIME: NBA ON NBC, but we're not in it alone: we're joined by gaming journalist/author/Palette-Swap Ninja lead singer/all-around good dude Dan Amrich, who tells the story of just how he came to be a hidden character in HANGTIME! "Just when we thought we were out, they pull us back in!". One more (mostly) Pepper show because we could not stay away from the epic "viral" parody known as "Princess Leia's Stolen Death Star Plans." Combine the Beatles and Star Wars, and you get something much more brilliant than it has any right to be. Start with an idea, work hard on it for five years and mix. This leads to discussion of other covers of the entire album (both parody and straightforward), and other (non-Pepper) Beatles covers, including that time Paul sang "the original lyrics" to Yesterday. Waffle Fries indeed! Hmmm, here's a free idea: The Godfather and Revolver. Anybody have half a decade to make it work?
This week, Steve, Allan and Ken meet with Dan Amrich of Pallete-Swap Ninja, who, along with Jude Kelley and Katrin Auch created the incredibly hilarious album "Princess Leia's Stolen Death Star Plans" that spoofs "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" and "Star Wars." You can hear and see it on YouTube at http://bit.ly/starwarsbeatles and download at http://paletteswapninja.com. Weiterlesen »
Cap and Brandon are joined by Palette-Swap Ninja, an obscure nerd band that recently made a big splash when they combined two pillars of 20th century pop culture into one unbelievable concept album. Dan Amrich is a game journalist turned Ubisoft community developer and Jude Kelley is a research scientist who repairs old arcade machines. With our collective powers combined, we're unleashing a nerd podcast of an unrepellable magnitude. First up, we take on the listener-requested topic: failed video game consoles. We've all seen our fair share of pie-in-the-sky, crazy flops in the ever-ongoing console wars, but Dan's career in game journalism grants him a special perspective. In the mid-90s at outlets like Flux and GamePro he was witnessing some of the legendary travesties - including the notorious Virtual Boy. We dissect and debate just what makes a "failed" game console and get stories from Dan and Jude's deep game nerd backgrounds, then we dive into the incredible project they've spent the last 5+ years working on: Princess Leia's Stolen Death Star Plans. Celebrating the 40th anniversary of Star Wars and the 50th anniversary of The Beatles' immortal classic, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Heart's Club Band - this seamless, record-length parody tells the entire story of A New Hope. With Austin Powers recently turning 20, we undertake a fan suggestion this week and look at five awful, awful games based on Mike Myers movies... with the help of our old pal Dan Amrich, who won the internet this week by co-creating the stellar Star Wars/Beatles mashup album known as Princess Leia's Stolen Death Star Plans. Then it's time for a spirited discussion about Prey, Call of Duty: WWII, Darksiders III, the New Nintendo 2DS XL, and the series whose gameplay you'd mash together if you could.
