Opportunities highlighted this week included: RNIB Voice of the Customer Focus Groups RNIB is looking for blind and partially sighted people from across the UK to share their voice as part of a series of insight focus groups which will help shape the work of RNIB. In the next series of focus groups, the RNIB will be focusing on your experience of services and support you have received since diagnosis.  The focus groups will take place via Microsoft Teams, or alternatively you can use your phone and the Team can call you into the meeting.  The next focus groups take place on: Thursday 11 May & Tuesday 23 May 2023 from 10am – 12.15pm  And Tuesday 6 June & Tuesday 20 June 2023 from 5.30pm – 7.45pm. But I've been to Phoenix and besides, you know, killing you when it's hot, it's, it's beautiful in its own way there too. So yeah, Shannon: it can be. We're moving soon to Georgia, so end of the year. Well, you won't get excited about that there either, Stephen: and maybe so. I'm sorry, what else do you like to do? What are some things. Shannon: Um, I do all kinds of stuff. I'm always finding something new to do. Right now I'm learning to play chess. I went through a bread making phase. We had fresh bread like every day. My family loved it. Um, just kind of anything, you know, I get bored kind of easily. I like to change things up. Okay. Stephen: Yeah. So why did you wanna start? Shannon: I've always wanted to be a writer. I've always loved to read, and creating a world and losing yourself in the book is just the best feeling, and I wanna do that for myself and for other people. Um, And as a kid, we'd get these assignments, like write a short story, a short paragraph, and I'd fill out the whole page, flip it over, fill out the whole back of the page, just go way beyond the assignment. Right. Um, so yeah, I guess that's why . Okay. Nice. Stephen: And, um, so the, the book we're gonna be talking about is called The Prisoner of Stewartville. Yes. Um, so why did you wanna write this book and tell us a little bit about. Shannon: Well, when I was 12, my mom started working with the federal prison system here in Phoenix, and they had this company Picnic Day, and I'll never forget this, it was at the facility and we're like roasting hot dogs and playing tag and 20 yards away. There's prisoners walking around the gate and I'm 12 and I'm thinking, oh my gosh, what did they do and why are we here with them? And just kind of that weirdness, the two worlds colliding, really stuck with. And then when I was 14,

Marlo: What are you talking about? John: We went through this last year too, Marlo. It's National Talk Like Shakespeare Day. Just play along. We'll get through this together. Marlo: Okay, Anna. Get it out of your system. Anna: Jest upon me, scoundrel. Thy wit's as thick as a Tewkesbury mustard. Marlo: John, I have no idea what any of this means. John: Just nod and try not to make any big movements.  Anna: You scullion! You rampallian! You fustilarian! We have all heard the phrase that life is no picnic, but with Spring in the air it's time to rethink that. From the French word for piquenique, picnic means a meal eaten outdoors.  This meal hearkens back to mid-18th-century al fresco French dining when all you needed was a bottle of wine, a loaf of bread, some cheese and fruit and you could have a party under the sky.  These days we could all use an impromptu celebration as we take advantage of the warmer weather with our family and friends.  Anytime you can get outside, your mood will automatically lift, and for some reason food always tastes better in the great outdoors.  Don't live close to a park? No problem.  Your own backyard will do. And if the weather is not quite picture perfect, a blanket on the living room floor is just fine.  This casual meal invites conversation, relaxation, eating with your fingers.  What a perfect recipe for connecting with those you love.  On National Picnic Day spread a blanket out and find your way back to the simple pleasures in life.  I'm Anna Devere and I'm Marlo Anderson.  Thanks for joining us as we Celebrate Every Day.
