Today's episode is brought to you by my almost-mental breakdown a few weeks ago. The mental load was giving me a menty B and something had to give. I was served an ad for a service called Faye and immediately scheduled a call with the founder. A few weeks later, I feel lighter! I have a teammate to help me tackle my busy life! Today I'm sitting down with that founder, Emily, who shares more about Faye, why it's important it is to be able to delegate in our personal lives, and how their service is helping remove the stigma around asking for help.Interested in off-loading some of your mental load too? Emily is offering Snooze Button listeners $50 off their first month with code SNOOZE50! You can learn more about Faye on their website, and follow along on Instagram.Loved this episode? The show OPEN... snoozing... grounding... and college!
Former President Biden has been diagnosed with an "aggressive" form of prostate cancer. Also, millions in the South and Midwest are bracing for a new round of severe weather following deadly tornadoes. Plus, a manhunt is underway for the escaped prisoners in Louisiana. And, an exclusive look at a new study on hitting the snooze button.
Someone had to say it! So I guess it will be me. I'll cut right to the chase - it's not working because those things don't actually help a child who is struggling. They help YOU feel like you're doing something, and doing something that has been packaged as nicer and "gentler" for your child, even though it's not.So we'll unpack it today - What these terms really mean, why (from my perspective) parents gravitate towards them even without data to support their efficacy, and where you can turn your attention instead. If you're feeling bad, sad, guilty or confused about why these concepts don't seem to be working, I want this episode to be a weight off your shoulders. In this episode I mentioned another Snooze Button episode, as well as a book, they are both linked below:The Truth About "Gentle Sleep Training" and "Cry It Out"Eleanor Oliphant Is Completey FineLoved this episode? One thing about me - I love asking "how'd you do that?" to successful people. Especially successful parents. If you have a kind, interesting, emotionally intelligent child, teen or adult, I want to know what you did to help them get there. My latest target was my wonderful Aunt who joined me for dinner a few nights ago. In today's episode, I'll share each of the strategies she shared with me, that she used with her daughter from a very young age to each her life skills, planning, problem solving, manners, confidence, trust, and most of all - that her voice matters in any room.Looking for more parenting inspo? Oh God you guys, where do I begin?! This episode is inspired by a request I got from a news outlet yesterday. They wanted a quote from me on a new trend where parents offer kids butter in order to help them sleep at night. Oye. No? No, no that's not the answer. So today, I'm sharing my top 10 things you do NOT need to buy to help with sleep, and why. Butter (and all other foods) are on the list! You guys submitted some great ones yesterday on Instagram, which I've included as well. I hope this episode saves you some time, money, and shoe leather, walking to the store to buy things that will do nothing but stress you out. Permission to ignore anyone telling you to "just wait" until your great sleeper is destroyed by a dreaded sleep regression. Why? I'm so glad you asked. Today I'll explain what sleep regressions actually are, the most common times in a baby and pre-toddlers life they may occur, why they seem to impact some babies so much more than others, and what you can do NOW to make it very unlikely they ever impact your babe.In this episode, I mention two other Snooze Button eps that may be of interest to you, they're linked below:The Con Of "The 4 Month Sleep Regression"The Spookiest Nap Transition: 2 to 1 NapLoved this episode? We add stress to our mornings in our fight against the alarm clock. To be honest, I can remember maybe three times in my life that I pushed snooze on my alarm. I guess I don't understand its purpose. If I wanted to wake up at a different time, why wouldn't I just set my alarm for that time instead of an earlier one to tap an "oh shit, don't sleep too long" button to start my day? Okay, so maybe I am the happiest morning person you will ever meet, but can I offer you the idea that, just maybe, how you start your day is how your day will go? Snoozing your alarm, is you, snoozing on your life! Lack of purpose, discipline, and love for waking up to a new day. This tiny habit of yours is anything but innocent. It trickles into every hour going forward throughout the day. Not only are you groggy and unpleasant to be around, but it impairs your memory and cognitive ability. Today, we talk about why you are snoozing on your life, prolonged sleep inertia, and the shifts you can make in your life to ease the dread of simply waking up. References: Sleep Foundation

Matt's back, and this time he's tackling the perennial debate: Is the snooze button a friend or foe when it comes to your sleep and overall health? He shines a spotlight on an intriguing study led by Dr. Tina Sundelin and her team - one that challenges our conventional wisdom about snooze buttons. Surprisingly, their research reveals that snooze button usage is quite common, especially among night owls and younger folks. What's even more unexpected is that snoozing may not have the detrimental impact on mood, cognitive performance, or cortisol levels that we once thought. However, there's a catch: snooze users end up with about 20% less sleep in the last half-hour of their sleep cycle. While Matt acknowledges these thought-provoking findings, he remains cautious and stresses the importance of cherishing natural, uninterrupted sleep patterns. He suggests that more extensive, long-term research may be needed to fully understand the potential consequences of snooze button habits on our well-being. Along the way, Matt sprinkles in fascinating tidbits about the history of alarm clocks and shares some unconventional alarm clock designs that add humor and curiosity to the conversation. Whether you're a die-hard snooze button fan or someone on a quest to enhance your morning routine, this episode serves up valuable insights into the science of sleep and waking up.
