On January 11, 2018, 55-year-old Ray Wright vanished without a trace. He had no reason to leave. After all, his family said he was in the best place of his life. Fearing the worst, his brother went to his house to check on him and walked in on an intruder. A few days later, Sacramento police were led on a high speed chase, seemingly unrelated to Ray's case. But when they searched the evader's van, they found a treasure trove of evidence and a motive nobody saw coming. In episode 8, we conclude our interview with Ray Wright. Ray tells us about moving to Utah and continuing to improve his woodworking skills by learning from a blind woodshop teacher. He also talks about developing a passion for the lathe and starting his own woodworking business. Additionally, he talks about how an opportunity to substitute teach woodshop at his local Center for the Blind turned into a fantastic job. This episode is packed with great stories about how Ray adapted to blindness, dealt with the doubts of other people, and gave other people a better quality of life along the way. Check out Ray's business at www.wrightturnonly.com. We would love to hear from you! Drop us an email at cripparenting@gmail.com.
In episode 7, we continue Ray's story. Having learned that nothing more could be done to stop his progressive vission loss, Ray decided to look into adjustment to blindness training. Ray talks about what adjustment to blindness was like and what it was like to receive a Dog Guide from Guide Dogs for the Blind. We end with a chat about how wonderful service dogs are. With three service dog users in the room, we couldn't help the slight digression. We would love to hear from you: Drop us a line at cripparenting@gmail.com.
At the age of 22, while managing a local movie theater, Ray was diagnosed with Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP). This is Ray's story of how he adapted to blindness, discovered new dreams, and is living a happy life. Topics discussed in part 1 include Ray growing up with Deaf sisters, his diagnosis of RP, and how he dealt with incurable progressive blindness. We would love for this podcast to be about more than us. If you would like to tell your disability story, drop us a line at cripparenting@gmail.com.
Episode 7 is one the most fun yet because Ray Wright is the "real deal". Ray is known among LSU fans for "the catch" he made in the 2000 College World Series championship game against Stanford when he snared a wood be three-run home run to help LSU defeat Stanford, 6-5, for the program's fifth national title. Ray is known around NASCAR as a member of Richard Childress Racing, one of the most well respected teams in the sport. But after this podcast I hope you'll recognize Ray as a guy doing all he can to just be himself and love other people along the way. Ray responded to a nudge by the Holy Spirit years ago to launch Pit Stops for Hope, a collaboration of the racing community united together for the betterment of Americas youth. You'll enjoy hearing about his journey and hopefully be inspired to keep moving forward in yours.
Join Rebecca Wilson & Elizabeth Wyndham as they discuss the past year with Ray Wright and his 3 Zone Managers: John Waisanen, Aaron Pennington, & Craig Doyle. Listen in as Ray and his managers discuss the pandemic, the Platform Science roll-out, and what they face in their areas.

@WrighteousRayNearly five years ago my guy Sap Murphy connected me with west-side legend Louis King for our first studio interaction. Me having a strong value for information I immediately did my research & came across a crazy mixtape called "International Slap". This was also the first time I discovered Ray Wright who featured on a track titled "Break Thru". His voice is instantly recognizable on any record & he is quickly becoming one of the hook gawds of the west-coast. A few months back I received a phone call from Louis saying there was a chance he was going to hop into a session with Ray. My studio became immediately available & being as Shah & I were in the middle of Season 1 he was naturally over everyday & practically already lived in the studio. Ray came through & the rest was written in wax [you can listen to the track "Limousines & Grey Poupon (feat. Picture this, a stampede of 3500 LB machines flying by, only a few feet away from you, at over 200 miles per hour. That's the life of a pit crew in the world of NASCAR. Former LSU baseball player, Ray Wright, joins our podcast this week to discuss his transition from an outfielder to a position managing 6 pit crews. Through the interview, Wright talks about the “flush it” mentality crew members must have, and the mental performance and preparation that carries from the field to pit road. Pit crew members are, “the guys who are the most mentally strong; who can delete a whole bunch of things around them.” Ray discusses a few key principles and lessons he held on to through his baseball career at LSU and how he has used those same principles throughout his NASCAR career. Wright also talks about his company Pit Stops for Hope which is a charity meant to better America's youth. Pit Stops for Hope invests in the education and health of children that are burdened with poverty situations. Their overall mission is to “replace poverty with hope in our community!” We are honored to have Ray Wright on The MindSide Podcast this week, and we hope you enjoy this segment that highlights the mental game, and social awareness. Enjoy! Support Pit Stops For Hope today by visiting http://www.pitstopsforhope.org
Ray Wright teaches wood working and was once a student learning about wood working as an elective class. Ray had no idea that one day he would be teaching others the art of wood working. His class is an opportunity for students to work with tools and create projects that they probably did not expect that they could do as a person with visual impairment. Ray has become a master of the Lathe and from the tiniest projects to Ice Cream Cones Ray the only limits he puts on hisprojects is his imagination. check out Ray's story and check out the Wood Working for blind web site at www.ww4b.org Check out more workshops on the LightHouse for the Blind and Visually Impaired web site.
