Wandering Works for Us PodcastDate: 1 August 2026Title: York & Corbridge, UK: Ghosts, Vikings, and the Wall That Ended Our England LegSummary of EpisodeYork earns the title of favorite city on the trip: walkable, atmospheric, and layered with Viking, medieval, and LGBTQ+ history. We cover the Shambles and its Harry Potter branding, the Jorvik Viking Centre's ride-through experience (built on the actual Coppergate dig), a haunted pub crawl at the Black Swan, a walk on the city walls at sunset, and the Holy Trinity Church plaque marking Anne Lister and Ann Walker's 1834 union. Wandering Works for Us PodcastDate: 13 June 2026Day Trips beyond Lisbon, Part 2: Palácio do Bucaco, Grutas da Mira de Aire, Quinta do Cerejeiras, and Buddha Eden GardensSummary of EpisodeWe're back with another round of day trips from Lisbon — and this batch might be our favourites yet. In this episode, Shelley and Beth head into some of Portugal's most surprising corners: a fairy-tale palace lost in an ancient forest, the largest caves in the country (that almost nobody outside Portugal knows exist), and a vast sculpture garden full of Buddhas and terracotta warriors tucked between vineyards. Yes, really. If you loved our first Lisbon day trips episode, this one goes even deeper off the well-worn path.In This EpisodePalácio do Buçaco (~2.5 hours from Lisbon) A neo-Manueline palace inside a UNESCO-protected forest — the kind of place that genuinely feels like it shouldn't exist. We talk about the centuries-old forest (planted by monks, over 700 tree species), the extraordinary palace interior, and the shadow of King Carlos I, who was assassinated just a year after it was completed. We also get into the Battle of Buçaco from the Peninsular War and why the old convent on the grounds is worth seeking out. Our honest take: this one is better as an overnight or paired with Coimbra, just 30 minutes away.Grutas de Mira de Aire (~1.5 hours from Lisbon) The largest open caves in Portugal, discovered by accident in 1947 when a local farmer noticed steam rising from the ground on a cold morning. Formed during the Middle Jurassic era (yes, dinosaur times), the caves stretch 11 km but 600 metres are open to visitors. We walk you through what the guided tour is actually like, the app you can use if your tour is in Portuguese, and that final room with the fountain show — a little kitsch, absolutely wonderful. A car is needed if you are doing it yourselves, but you can get a tour through Get Your Guide from Lisbon, and it pairs beautifully with Fátima for a full central Portugal day.Buddha Eden & Quinta das Cerejeiras (~1 hour from Lisbon, near Bombarral) This one needs to be seen to be believed. Thirty-five hectares of Buddhist statues, Easter Island heads, and terracotta warriors set among vineyards in the Óbidos wine region — created by collector Joe Berardo as a response to the Taliban's destruction of the Bamiyan Buddhas. We share what the experience is actually like, why you need comfortable shoes and more time than you think, and Beth tells the story of the train. We also cover Quinta das Cerejeiras nearby — the historic home of Abel Pereira da Fonseca — and how to actually get inside (hint: you need to call ahead).Key Topics[01:10] Palácio do Buçaco–Sorry about calling Luís I, Louis. I guess we went French for a minute. Lee-Ann revisits every guest from Season 24 and draws out the thread that ran through every conversation: affiliate marketing is not evolving slowly anymore. It's shifting in real time, and the programs that are built on old assumptions are already falling behind.Talking Points Include:What our guests collectively confirmed -- the season's guests came from different corners of the industry, but they all arrived at the same conclusionWhy last-click attribution was already broken before AI made it worse -- the season built a steady, cumulative case against over-reliance on a single measurement model, and this episode pulls that argument togetherThe themes that surfaced again and again across eleven episodes -- zero-click search, compliance as a growth lever, open attribution, human relationships in an automated world, and what it really means to diversify a program in 2026Listen to Find Out More About:Why Lee-Ann opens the wrap-up by referencing what the season opener promised, and whether the season actually delivered on itWhat Jon Ostler called "the great affiliate bypass" and why the structural shift he described is only going to accelerate from hereStuart Miles's central lesson about low-friction partnerships and why it applies far beyond the tech and gadget publishing world he comes fromThe moment in Lauryn Day's episode where the conversation about creator content and AI changes in search made clear that this is no longer a future concernWhat Lee-Ann says she's taking into the next season, and the note of genuine optimism underneath a very clear-eyed summary of how much pressure the industry is underKey Segments of This Podcast and Where You Can Tune In to Go Direct:[02:27] Ishtvan Torpoi revisited: the mega lag controversy and why disciplined monitoring beats partner volume every time[06:20] Jon Ostler's great affiliate bypass: AI citations, publisher investment, and the attribution gap that last click can't explain[18:47] Adam Ross on invisible revenue: how AWIN's Conversion Protection Initiative recovered $250 million in previously untracked value[28:56] Alex Springer on open attribution: why collaboration across networks, publishers, and brands is now happening for the first time[33:49] Lee-Ann's season close: what the industry learned, what still needs to change, and what Season 25 is already being built aroundStay Ahead with AffiverseIf Season 24 raised questions about how your program is structured for what's coming, the Affiverse newsletter is where Lee-Ann continues the conversation between seasons. Why tracking everything your affiliates do matters more now than ever before (and what conversion protection tells us about lost revenue)If your affiliate program isn't tracking properly, you could be losing millions without realising it. Adam Ross, CEO of Awin and 21-year industry veteran, reveals exactly how AI-powered search is fragmenting the customer journey, why deterministic tracking alone won't survive the next five years, and how Awin's Conversion Protection Initiative has already recovered over $250 million in previously untracked revenue. Lee-Ann and Adam discuss his leadership approach, why probabilistic tracking methods are becoming essential, and what the convergence of influencer and affiliate marketing means for program growth.Talking Points Include:The seismic shift happening in content attribution – how LLMs are citing publisher content to answer consumer queries, why this value currently goes unrewarded, and the new tracking signals needed to expose itWhy different traffic deserves different tracking methods – different traffic has different value and possibly needs different tracking methods and different reward mechanisms, ending the era of treating all affiliate partnerships equallyThe conversion protection wake-up call – how forcing tracking upgrades revealed $16 million in additional commission and what this tells us about invisible program valueListen to Find Out More About:Why Awin does quarterly seasonal product releases to bring meaningful improvements to advertiser and publisher experiences, with the winter release focused on simplifying what is still an incredibly complex channel to help everyone get much more value out of the spaceHow the new platform aims to get smaller advertisers to money-making partnerships as quickly as possible without needing account management support, using 25 years of data to know which partnerships work, what rates to pay, and how to increase active partnershipsWhy Adam is extremely bullish about affiliate's future, noting that while this disruption is probably going to be much bigger than past changes, affiliate is a wonderful monetisation infrastructure that can be quite agnostic about how end user experiences evolveThe exciting new influx of AI startups connecting at scale with multiple brands looking for ways to monetise, where the CPA model works very well for AI recommendations based on personalisationWhy the convergence of influencer and affiliate marketing continues accelerating and why people will always want to buy from other people, even when using AI for researchWhat it means that there's got to be an acceptance that in a lot of cases, the old ways of tracking from a technical perspective are no longer going to work, whilst deterministic tracking remains super important as the baseKey Segments of This Podcast and Where You Can Tune In to Go Direct:[01:15] The unlikely journey from dentistry student to affiliate marketing through a recruiter who saw potential beyond experience[18:55] Why different affiliate traffic has different value and needs different tracking methods and reward mechanisms[27:00] How Awin's seasonal product releases bring quarterly improvements and what the winter release means for platform simplificationCall to ActionMaster the tracking evolution that's reshaping affiliate marketing success. Which partnerships are moving the needle? Which standout marketing campaigns are being created? In this month's episode, Committee members Arielle Feger and Emmy Liederman will defend their list against Principal Analyst, Sky Canaves and Senior Analyst, Blake Droesch, who will dispute the power rankings by attempting to move retailers up, down, on, or off the list. In this conversation, Dr. Michael Vlerick discusses the mismatch between our modern environment and our Stone Age brains, which can impact our happiness. He highlights examples such as our predilection for sugary and fatty foods, our stress response, our sedentary lifestyle, and the artificial ways we seek dopamine boosts. Dr. Vlerick explains how our brains evolved to seek opportunities and rewards, but our modern environment often provides excessive and unhealthy stimuli. He also touches on the addictive nature of social media and the importance of cultivating attention and quieting the mind. The conversation explores the negative consequences of overusing social media, the complex nature of addiction, the role of environment in addiction, the prevalence of loneliness in modern times, the mismatch between our natural responses and the modern world, the possibility of adapting to the modern environment, the importance of habit formation, gratitude for modern living conditions, and looking forward to increasing happiness. Takeaways Our modern environment often clashes with our Stone Age brains, leading to mismatches that can impact our happiness. Examples of mismatches include our predilection for sugary and fatty foods, our stress response, our sedentary lifestyle, and the artificial ways we seek dopamine boosts. Understanding the evolutionary purpose of certain behaviors can help us navigate the challenges of our modern environment. Cultivating attention and quieting the mind are important for our well-being in an environment filled with distractions. Overuse of social media can have negative consequences, especially in young people, leading to depression and social isolation. Addiction is a complex phenomenon influenced by both chemical compounds and environmental factors. The environment plays a crucial role in addiction, as seen in studies with rats and the experiences of soldiers in the Vietnam War. Loneliness is a major problem in modern times, with one-third of adults suffering from it. Our natural responses and instincts are often mismatched with the modern world, leading to challenges in maintaining happiness. Adapting to the modern environment requires knowledge and caution. Habit formation is key to protecting against threats to happiness and increasing long-term well-being. Despite the challenges, it is important to be grateful for the improved living conditions in modern times. There are strategies and solutions to increase happiness and improve overall well-being. --- Become an Audible Member for only 99 pence for 3 months: https://bit.ly/3vzSox9 Riverside.fm: get a 15% discount by using the code MESSY or sign up here https://bit.ly/3HCU4IC Register to Receive Books for £1 from Scholastic:https://bit.ly/49lRimq Leading the Circular Fashion Revolution with Preworn: Get a 25% discount using the code MESSY25: https://bit.ly/49bEXlD Cold Case Inc (use the code MESSY and get an exclusive 15% discount): https://bit.ly/3HN75PD Connect with the Brands you love at Awin:https://bit.ly/3vzSvJ5 Find the Perfect Gardener on Care.com: https://bit.ly/4cLKcdZ Grown Alchemist: https://bit.ly/3vKGXCD Cake or Death: https://bit.ly/3J4tDfG Kids Party Craft: https://bit.ly/4cFrULj Bike Club: https://bit.ly/3xj7DuF The Code Zone: https://bit.ly/3UlspmU
