Another great reminder came my way today from a wonderful difference maker, Coach Ray Ostrowski (@CoachRayO3313) who is a former student that I got to know while working during a few of my 34 years in teaching and now he is an awesome teacher & coach himself. He's not only helping his students and players, but plenty of people like me. Part of what he said as intro to this post was this: “Part of maturing is establishing the strength to persevere and recognizing that the work you do in the darkness will eventually come to the light in due time.” You see, I view myself as still maturing… even at my age.

He obsesses about this race every bit as much as Hottie and Fatty do, and has absolutely top-notch advice for Leadville racers. He's shared his wisdom at the Leadville Camp each year for several years, so we jumped at the opportunity to ask him what he hears as the most common questions and concerns. Enjoy the episode!

The Indiana women's swim team upset the 4-time defending champion Ohio State Buckeyes last week to win the Big Ten Championships. The 4-day meet came down to the last event, the 400 free relay, where Indiana touched 2nd and Ohio State touched 3rd, netting Indiana the victory by .5 points. Indiana head coach Ray Looze spoke to SwimSwam and reflected on everything that went into the win, emphasizing that they just wanted a chance to win the meet when it got to the last event.

Overreacting to Week 1 of TXHSFB, Iowa Colony coach Ray Garza, new state rankings, and more
I was so excited that Coach Birmingham agreed to come on the podcast. I have been a big fan of his as he is a legend in college baseball. I just knew if we could have an opportunity to visit, he'd share some of the incredible wisdom he's acquired throughout his career and boy was a right. This episode is pure gold and is chalked full of great stories about motivating and leading that everyone can learn from. Plus he is just one of the kindest and most thoughtful men I think I've ever met. Although I knew him through his social network presence, the conversation with him was so easy to have. He made me feel like he and I have been friends for years. He's a Rippler through and through. Here's a bit more about Coach: At UNM, Birmingham has the second-most wins in program history with 402 to his credit as the Lobo skipper, earning his 400th DI Career win on Saturday, Feb. 27, 2021 versus Air Force. He also initiated and had led the ongoing development and execution of the $3.65 million expansion of Santa Ana Star Field as well as UNM's first privately-funded building on campus – the R.D. and Joan Dale Hubbard Clubhouse that was completed in December of 2016. For his overall career, Birmingham is in exclusive company having won over 1,000 games. Entering the 2021 season, Birmingham will have coached in parts of six decades dating back to the late 1970s. Birmingham is also the winningest coach in the state's history as all 1,220 of his victories have come coaching for teams in his home state of New Mexico (College of the Southwest, New Mexico Junior College and UNM). In 2015, Birmingham was inducted into the New Mexico Sports Hall of Fame and was also inducted into the NJCAA Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame in 2011. He also currently serves on the College Baseball Hall of Fame Selection Committee. Birmingham has also coached or spoken at numerous clinics throughout the United States and South America. He has been published in the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Journal and worked professionally for the Cleveland Indians, Oakland A's and Kansas City Royals. In 2004, Birmingham led the NJCAA all-star team to four wins in five games over the Chinese All-Stars in Beijing, China. In 2007, Birmingham was selected as the head coach of the NJCAA all-star team when China returned to the United States to play the U.S. team. Birmingham also coached the NJCAA West All-Stars to a three-game sweep over the East All-Stars in the summer of 2009. In the summer of 2014, Birmingham served as the hitting coach for USA Baseball's Collegiate National Team, which was made up of the top collegiate players from around the country. Team USA played games across North Carolina before traveling to the Netherlands to participate in Honkbal-Haarlem Baseball Week. The CNT won the international tournament by outscoring its opponents 34-6 over its final seven games. Birmingham helped guide Tennessee's Christin Stewart to “Best Hitter” honors at the tournament and Albuquerque's own Alex Bregman of LSU was named Honkbal Baseball Week MVP. Team USA concluded its summer with five games in Cuba, finishing with an overall record of 18-8-2. In his 43rd year of coaching, Birmingham has been a part of 22 championships. All the college baseball programs Birmingham has coached have reached the top 25 in the national rankings at some point. Between University of the Southwest, New Mexico Junior College and New Mexico, 167 athletes have gone on to play professional baseball with 39 coming while the head coach at UNM. Additionally, under Birmingham at UNM, 40 athletes have earned All-America honors and 10 have been freshman All-Americans as well. Birmingham was also the coach of NMJC's first basketball conference championship team – a team that was ranked No. 1 in the country.

This is an episode that has been a long time coming, and this felt like the perfect time to call in Coach Ray to talk about a big week ahead for the Stanford Cardinal at LACC. With 4 players in the field, it is already a historic week for the Stanford Men's Golf program and it will be awesome to see where things shake out over the course of the week. While Coach Ray has 4 players in this week's US Open, his depth with this event and golf course go much further than that. As a competitor in the 2005 US Open, Coach Ray has a wealth of stories about The Cat, what it's like to be a competitor in a US Open, what he still takes with him from that week as a coach, and more. Furthermore, Coach Ray and i got into a conversation about what has happened in recent times in the golf world and what this could all mean for college golf and young talent in general.Greatly enjoyed this recording, and I hope you all enjoy listening.Cheers,- The Tie GuysWebsite:https://www.thetiepodcast.comInstagram:https://www.instagram.com/thetiepodcast/?hl=enTwitter:https://mobile.twitter.com/thetiepodcastTikTok:@tieguys @tieguytexasranger @tieguyhs GoodWalk Coffee:https://goodwalkcoffee.comCODE: thetie for 20% offBDraddy:bdraddy.comCODE: thetie25 for 25% off

Ray King is a fitness expert and transformation coach who specializes in helping dads transform their health and bodies through his innovative and effective programs. With a background in personal training and nutrition, Ray has a deep understanding of the unique challenges and opportunities facing modern dads, and he uses this knowledge to empower them to achieve their fitness goals and lead healthier, happier lives. In this episode, Coach Ray King shares his personal story of transformation through fitness and how it helped him reconcile with his wife after a divorce. He highlights the impact of emotional fitness in our lives, especially in the aftermath of a difficult experience like divorce. Divorce can take a significant emotional toll on children, causing feelings of confusion, fear, sadness, loneliness, and isolation. Ray shares his own experience of the impact of divorce on his children and the fear and confusion he witnessed in their eyes during the arguments. He also recalls the loneliness he felt after returning home from a successful competition and realizing that no one was there to celebrate with him. To support children through the challenges of divorce, it is essential for parents to be mindful of the emotional toll it can take and to provide a safe and supportive environment for their children to express their emotions. This includes offering love and reassurance, which can help children to cope with the difficult emotions that accompany divorce and to come out of the experience with resilience and hope. Ray emphasizes that emotional fitness is just as important as physical fitness, especially in the aftermath of a divorce. He shares how his own journey of transformation through fitness helped him to reconcile with his wife and how it positively impacted his life. By taking care of our emotional well-being, we can better navigate the challenges of divorce and come out stronger on the other side. www.thedadedge.com/friday105 thedadedge.com/alliance www.instagram.com/rayking.savagedad
