William Rayder joins us today to share his very entertaining Story, from commercial fishing Lobster at the age of 12 and moving on to some minor piracy. Will has great detail when describing his life and was a joy to record. A magical 40 day walking tour of the Camino De Santiago with his young son.
In Episode 37 of Stranger Encounters Tommy looks at the pros and cons of capitalism as a term used by libertarians, and if the use of this terms serves any utility in the furtherance of liberty.
Mance Rayder's second book is like a bazooka aimed at the leftism that is de rigueur in academia, entertainment, and culture. Using well-chosen memes, Mance demonstrates the double standards and inconsistency that characterize so many leftist arguments, and makes the case for the free society -- the missing option in our political discussion. (Also in this episode, Mance finally drops the pseudonym and reveals his real name.)
Actual Anarchy Podcast - AnCap Movie Reviews from a Rothbardian Perspective
Mance Rayder of the Free Man Beyond the Wall Podcast joins us for a discussion of one of his favorite movies, Dances with Wolves. Lieutenant John Dunbar, assigned to a remote western Civil War outpost, befriends wolves and Indians, making him an intolerable aberration in the military. We get into a lot of rabbit trails in a somewhat longer version of the show as we talk about the horrors of war, clashing of cultures, property rights and cultural appropriation. Find Mance on Twitter at: https://twitter.com/mnrothbard There you can find links to his show and book and also see the excellent meme materials he keeps pumping out. Join us next week as we discuss the Tom Cruise flick, American Made. Show notes at: http://www.actualanarchy.com/102 Presented by www.ActualAnarchy.com Robert and I analyze popular movies from a Rothbardian/Anarcho-Capitalist perspective. We use movies as a starting point for people who may not be familiar with this way of thinking. Discussion of the plot and decisions that characters make in relation to morality and violations of the non-aggression principle are our bread and butter. We also will highlight and discuss any themes or lessons from Austrian Economics that we can glean from the film. The point is to show what anarchy actually is with instances that are presented in film. We publish at least once per week; and occasionally will do specials surrounding holidays or events (elections/olympics) and have guests. SUBSCRIBE, RATE AND REVIEW ON APPLE PODCASTS (or iTUNES)
In today's episode Nicky P & Lizzie start airing out that dirty religious laundry they have with each other. We look at Freewill by Rush and discuss its religious & objectivist messages. This week I Heard This Happened finds our pair in very different worlds indeed. Nick's over in Europe in some sweaty club and Lizzy is apparently ten years old plopped down in front of The Cosby Show or Wings or some such nonsense.Nicky brings Kingdoms In Colour by Maribou State. An atmospheric yet easily danceable electronic offering. It reminds me of Caribou meets Royksop but with a more modern R&B bent at times. Lizzy brings The Optimist by Vulfpeck guitarist Cory Wong. Her description is "Imagine if John Mayer had funk as his musical background instead of blues. In this week’s interview we talk to Mance Rayder of The Free Man Beyond The Wall about his own time in the music industry and some strange concerts you wouldn’t believe happened. On this week's Electric Libertyland host Brian McWilliams welcomes in epic libertarian / volantaryist memer, podcaster and author Mance Rayder. Brian and Mance discuss the plague of locusts that are the defenders of socialism, including John Oliver of HBO, before discussing Samantha Bee, Joy Reid and the SCOTUS punt on Masterpiece Bakeshop Ltd. vs. Colorado Civil Rights Commission. @BrianMcWilliams @LionsofLIberty @mnrothbard
Today's episode covers a wide range of topics: the origins of Trump, fallacies of protectionism, how to respond to critics who say libertarianism has never been tried, plus Somalia, working conditions under capitalism, why libertarianism is attacked when we're so marginal, the increasing use of "classical liberal" by creeps, and more. This episode is drawn from my recent appearance on the podcast.
Mance Rayder, author of Freedom Through Memedom, joins me for some big-picture arguments against the state and for freedom.
After a ten month hiatus, HBO's hit series Game of Thrones has finally returned and it seems the land of Westeros is starting to look like a very different place. No matter the difference in power players, The Cast Beyond the Wall has returned to talk the biggest twists from the latest episode. In this week's discussion we recap the somewhat polarizing season 5 premiere featuring a totally broken Tyrion Lannister and the recently mentorless Daenerys Targaryen. To kick off the season, we talk about the first flashback in Game of Thrones history and what it could means for Cersei's seemingly bleak future as Queen of Westeros. We try to decide the nature of the prophecy at hand and whether or not Margery is really the queen predicted to bring the Lannisters down. In The Wars to Come, Varys reveals his true allegiance and makes a proposition to Tyrion that could change the outcome of the entire show. I talk details with Daniel and Austin before begging the question of whether or not it really changes the game. With Tyrion being pointed to Daenerys, are we in for the show's most powerful team up yet? In the north, Jon is forced by Stannis to win the loyalty of Mance Rayder and his wildling armies to his cause. We lay out Mance's dilemma and talk the future implications of Jon's actions. The Wars to Come may be a slow burn set up episode, but there's no shortage of things to discuss on this week's episode of The Cast Beyond the Wall.
