Retaining key talent mandates more support and encouragement for workers in the minority. So many of our current systems are set up to help men succeed. We must create similar systems for women and people of color so that they are supported in returning to, and remaining in the workforce.   Diane Flynn; Co-Founder and CEO of Reboot Accel joins Kelly to discuss ways we can better nurture the skills of those who feel like the lonely or the only in the workplace.   Diane believes; “ERGs (Employee Resource Groups) are a critical piece to creating more inclusive environments. "They are really sessions to embolden people, to give people a majority experience, many of whom never feel it throughout their day. They are the "onlys" or the "lonelies" in a lot of meetings, and all of a sudden, they can show up in a space that is safe, where they can express their full self.”  Big Takeaways:   Informal networks are just as important as formal networks when it comes to landing opportunities and new experiences. (15:00)  Women and people of color are so often subject to a minority tax in the workplace. This isn't just a women's problem or people of color problem. It is all of our problems and we must all be part of the solution. (24:00)  Every role today requires constant learning on the job. Lifelong learning is a skill everyone needs no matter how old they are. While the terms diversity, equity and inclusion are not new, the movement – across society, institutions, and businesses – gained extraordinary momentum this year. Obviously, this push for increased understanding, awareness, and action was greatly inspired by George Floyd’s death. It has grown from there. But what, exactly, does diversity, equity, and inclusion – often called D.E.I. – actually look like? What tangible steps can business leaders take to integrate the principles not as one-off projects, but rather on going standard operating procedures? And what might those changes mean – for immediate adopters and companies slow on the uptake – for any business’ ability to compete and win in a next-generation workplace? Dr. Alexandria White works with organizations to create more diverse and inclusive workplaces. She serves as Director of Diversity for ReBoot Accel and as an adjunct faculty in the University of Mississippi’s School of Education. Dr. White has worked in retail banking, leadership, community activism, diversity planning and higher education and founded S.A.M.S. – Student Affairs MomS –  the largest online community for mothers who work on college campuses. As you’ll hear, she brings deep perspective, experience, and actionable tips to the conversation.

From gender-based pay gaps to leadership roles, advancement opportunity to corporate culture, the treatment of women in the workplace – and how to enhance growth opportunities for women executives – is and has been under continual focus. But now this focus is frequently combined with a new, and growing trend: The aging and multigenerational workforce. The numbers may surprise you: The number one growing demographic in today’s workplace is women over 55. In fact, the number of people over 55 is going to be 25% of our workforce in five years. The statistics come from Diane Flynn, Co-Founder and CEO of ReBoot Accel, accelerating the careers of women in the workplace and consulting with high-growth and Fortune 500 companies, as she puts it, “interested in creating workplaces where women thrive.”It’s also why – with companies like Airbnb, Udemy, Visa and Gap, Flynn has launched The Silicon Valley Longevity Project, which seeks to bring together companies recognizing that “How companies prepare for and respond to changing workplace demographics will have a profound influence on their ability to compete in the global marketplace and will affect the communities in which they operate.”More background: Flynn previously served as Chief Marketing Officer of GSVlabs, a marketing executive at Electronic Arts, and an associate consultant at The Boston Consulting Group. Like many professional women, she also left the workforce for a period to raise her family. So what can and should companies do? And what lessons can be learned from executives and firms who have succeeded – and from those who have failed?

Dana has always left a legacy behind. She believes strongly in leaving things better than she found them, and her record shows it. While working at SIA as Senior VP of Strategy and Solutions, Dana co-launched the industry’s first-ever buyside conference, research council, advisory practice, and speaker bureau. This resulted in a complete organizational structure change to scale and ultimately sell the founder's company, along with the CEO and Chief Analyst, to Crain Communications. During her time as Global Vice President at TAPFIN, Dana designed, collaborated, and led the Global Managed Services (BPO) Center of Excellence for TAPFIN. By working with 66 country experts across sales, finance, legal, tax, operations, back office, and implementations, her team delivered standardized methods across Fortune Company clients while honoring nuances within each region, country, and province. Dana also directed a team of market intel and thought leader experts, mining proprietary data and correlating it with externally available market and economic data, to create and launch the first-ever company Contingent Workforce Index. Today, this is not only a Global Index but the basis for a new revenue model. Dana left TAPFIN to join ICon Professional Services (now TalentWave), where she served as COO and President of Alliances and Advisory Services. As COO, she led growth initiatives that resulted in the final transaction to a substantial private equity exit for the owner/founder of ICon within 18 months, doubling the company’s revenues by developing and executing against a three-horizon plan ahead of timeline by ten months. As President, she was an architect of change and led the industry’s first alliance and advisory practice. She was responsible for the team of experts who jumpstarted TalentWave’s growth engine with the vision of revolutionizing the way companies and freelancers take the first step to becoming compliant. The aforementioned successes and her 20+ years of experience led her to be recognized as a Silicon Valley Business Journal’s 2015 Woman of Influence, a judge for the 2016 and 2017 Stevie Awards in the Individual/Female Executive Award categories, and a member of SIA’s Global Power 150 for the Women in Staffing category in 2018. She has also spoken at a variety of international keynotes and expert panels within the talent ecosystem for such notable companies as Fieldglass, PeopleFluent, Allegis, and TAPFIN. She has also presented at industry events such as SIA’s CW Solution, SIA’s Executive Forum, and the TechServe Alliance Annual Conference. Not satisfied to only talk about her opinions and thoughts, she has published pieces in SI Review, CW 3.0, HRO, Compliance Week, The Fordyce Letter, and Institute Supply Management Magazine, among many others. Helping companies anticipate “what’s next” is a specialty of hers.Today, Dana has started her own consulting and advisory firm, Phoenix5, embarking on the next phase of her career as an advisor, coach, speaker, and mentor, evangelizing a new mindset: Stop Settling®. Phoenix5 transforms individuals and organizations holistically in an accelerated way with maximum return. Stop Settling builds on that vision by offering a sustainable alternative to the work-life balance myth through a simple composite StrataGEM® charting that frees companies and professionals from giving in and giving up on sustainable success. With that in mind, Dana has begun coaching and advising an elite and like-minded team of Fortune, Staffing, and Digital Platform leaders, while collaborating with thought leaders and innovators of all kinds, to revolutionize the way we work and lead the voice of the new talent movement. She is a Founder and Global Staffing Evangelist for SOAR and also serves as a member of the advisory boards for Opolis, Reboot Accel, VNDLY, Shiftgig, and LNQ Systems.https://phoenix5th.com/
