Ryan Myers, portfolio manager at Causeway Capital Management -- manager of the Causeway International Small Cap fund -- says that current valuations "are on par with some historical extremes where small caps go on to outperform fairly significantly." He likes opportunities in Japan, particularly after market troubles there earlier in August made valuations even more appealing, but he also says there are bargains to be had in European financials and AI-adjacent companies in Taiwan and Korea and elsewhere. Financial adviser Mark Matson discusses his new book, "Experiencing the American Dream: How to Invest Your Time, Energy, and Money to Create an Extraordinary Life," and Ron Lieber, money columnist at The New York Times, digs into merit aid -- the focus of his new course aimed at parents trying to find ways to navigate college funding -- and how students can tap into it.
This week Donna and Orlando sat down with Interdisciplinary Artist, Halima Cassells and Founder of Sidewalk Detroit, Ryan Meyers-Johnson!Together, they discussed a collaborative art installation at Eliza Howell Park that teaches people about the impact of microplastics on the environment and the importance of sustainable practices for keeping our earth clean.Sidewalk Detroit is an organization working at the intersection of spatial equity, environmental justice, public art, community building and place-keeping. This spring, they announced Detroit-based artist Halima Cassells as the 2024 Eco-Artist-in-Residence at Eliza Howell Park, part of Earth Futures, a public art initiative and artist-in-residence program in Detroit covering issues of climate crisis such as air quality and water pollution through the lens of spatial equity and public art.The residency kicked off on April 20 with a river clean-up event at Eliza Howell Park, where participants joined forces to rescue materials from the Rouge River, embarking on the start of turning trash into treasure for the newest upcycled art installation at the park. Current Methods of Measuring Intracranial Pressure are Invasive, Expensive, and Risky. The current method for measuring intracranial pressure involves drilling a hole in the skull and physically inserting a sensor into the brain.Because this procedure is invasive and introduces additional risk factors, it is only used for patients in critical condition, typically in a coma. In 98% of traumatic brain injuries, the intracranial pressure is never tested. This leaves patients vulnerable to brain damage, seizure, coma, stroke, or even death.CranioSense has developed IPASS, a technology that measures intracranial pressure in seconds, without the need to drill a hole in the skull or insert a sensor into the brain. IPASS measures intracranial pressure (ICP) with an easy-to-use system that only requires a patch on the forehead, two clip-on sensors, and a handheld device the size of an iPad.In this episode, we discuss how Ryan Myers of CranioSense is discovering what their beachhead market should be, how to build the right team, and navigate between grant and venture funding to co-develop a winning medical product.

Many conditions can elevate or depress the intracranial pressure (ICP) of fluid pushing on the brain, potentially seriously impacting patient health. However, the only ways to measure ICP require specialized invasive techniques that are too risky for most patients. In Episode #26 of the MedTech Speed to Data podcast, Key Tech's Andy Rogers talks with Ryan Myers, CEO and Co-founder of CranioSense, about developing portable, non-invasive ICP measurement technologies.

Fundamental and Quantitative Research Strategies for Investing with Ryan MyersOne of the benefits to investing is the range of research driven approaches that investors can employ towards making their investment decisions. After careful study and practice, investors often choose between or may even blend fundamental and quantitative strategies. Both fundamental and quantitative strategies incorporate a substantial use and analysis financial data, but fundamental approaches delve much further into the qualitative aspects of the company, including management quality, competitive positioning, capital allocation decisions and often an estimation of a firm's intrinsic value. Conversely, quantitative strategies remain considerably more numbers driven regarding both investment selection and portfolio management. While some observers may believe quantitative investing overlooks important qualitative elements, proponents of the quantitative discipline can point to a dispassionate investment process that removes emotion and the pitfalls of human persuasion. In reality, both approaches work, and astute investors often incorporate elements from both fundamental and quantitative strategies into their approach.Ryan Myers, a Portfolio Manager at Causeway Capital Management, joins us to talk more about these strategies for investing in global small-cap equities. Mr. Myers is a quantitative portfolio manager at Causeway. He joined the firm in June 2013 and has been a portfolio manager since January 2021. His responsibilities include alpha research, stock selection, and portfolio construction. Mr. Myers earned a BA, magna cum laude, in economics from Harvard University, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. He earned an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business, where he was an Arjay Miller Scholar. Mr. Myers currently serves on the Board of Trustees of the Yosemite Conservancy, an organization dedicated to supporting projects and programs that preserve Yosemite National Park and enrich the visitor experience. Ever since Marshall Craig was taken from us on December 18, 2020, his mother Carla Craig has worked tirelessly with his friends and loved ones to ensure his memory lives on. So far, this has led to his massive book collection being donated to the library at his Alumni, The California University Of Pennsylvania, a bench installed at a park where he loved to see the sunset, and the beginnings of a charity called Marshall's Revolution. This is a year long miniseries designed by The Pop Break Staff Writer Sam Niles to progress his memory by having some discussions about movies in Marshall's collection. Marshall has an incredible collection and could talk for hours about film, so some of his friends got together and made a podcast to invite guests with both a passion and knowledge for film to discuss selections from his collection once a month. With this being the final installment of this iteration of the podcast, Sam has included the below message to his listeners: This episode of Marshall's Movies will not be the last, but it will be the last hosted by The Pop Break. Roughly a year ago, editor Alex Marcus was looking for a temporary podcast to fill in a scheduling gap, and I brought up this idea on a whim. I was initially worried the subject matter might be too heavy, and didn't really expect it to go anywhere, but I was met with unequivocal enthusiasm and support by Alex, editor in chief Bill Bodkin, and The Pop Break family as a whole. Indeed, the podcast was originally planned for six months, but after the first episode, they immediately planned it for a full year. I think it's safe to say that, while the podcast will continue elsewhere, I don't think it would exist to begin with without their support, and I look forward to the new podcast that will take our place. We are still sorting out where Marshall's Movies will continue, but for anyone curious, you can look to the Marshall's Revolution Facebook page, or feel free to reach out to me, Sam, at my email: sasniles@gmail.com, for inquiries. And, once more, thank you again to The Pop Break. For this final episode, we will be discussing one of Billy Wilder's masterpieces The Apartment, and we have a dear friend of Marshall, Ryan Myers, on to discuss it with us. As both Ryan and Marshall are massive fans of Wilder, it only felt right to bring him on to discuss Wilder's wonderfully charming yet viscerally emotional masterwork. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

On this episode of the Leaders of Modern Finance podcast, host Ken Boyd is joined by Ryan Myers, CFO of America's Thrift Stores, to talk about his unique background and the relationships he's cultivated between people and between systems. Ryan initially wanted to pursue a career in music, having obtained a degree in music from the University of Alabama. While he still enjoys music as a hobby, the intricacies and complexities of managing a constantly rotating inventory of retail merchandise captivated Ryan while he was still just an operator at America's Thrift Stores. His passion for making these complex systems run smoothly allowed him to work his way right up to the role of CFO. Much of the time Ryan spent on his journey to his current position was dedicated to making better use of data and analytics. While the budgets and forecasts he was given seemed good on paper, in reality they were often disconnected from the daily operations of the business. Using data to make plans consistent with the reality of organizational operations has been a great achievement for Ryan. Joining these analytics to meaningful partnerships with nonprofit collaborators makes Ryan not only a good steward of systems relationships but human relationships as well. Interview with Brian Fern Today's interview is with Brian Fern, aka @Unkolearnuhow from Hawaii! He has a genuine wealth of knowledge on gear and diving from his almost 40 years of spearfishing with a particular mindset towards sustainability and safety. He is a big advocate for buddy diving and gives us some actionable tips on how to dive safely and more effectively, how to handle Noob Spearos that don't know much about safety and how to confront experienced spearos that have unsafe dive practices. The Everyday PM: Project Management Principles for Your Everyday Life
Welcome to episode 27 of The Everyday PM Podcast where I welcome guest host, Ryan Myers, Operations Manager/Senior Project Manager, Haven Agency to talk about the importance of planning. The planning phase follows the first phase of a project, concept and initiation, and is one, if not THE most critical to project success. When planning for a project, a project manager in collaboration with the project team, are responsible for documenting project plans, defining the project deliverables and requirements, and creating the project schedule. This phase also involves creating a roadmap to help navigate your team through the execution, performance and control, and closure phases of the project. Not only does the roadmap serve as a blueprint for the team to execute against, it also helps you manage time, cost, quality, changes, risk, stakeholders and other project-related information. Why is it then that when project timelines get squeezed that planning is the first phase that stakeholders look at to shave time? Perhaps there is a misconception that planning can be done quickly or that the sooner the team can start executing, the faster we'll see results. However, by cutting time from planning, you are doing more harm than good. The risks that could have been flagged by the team during planning via a pre-mortem exercise will likely creep up later in the project, costing the team more time to mitigate than if the proper amount of time were given upfront for the team to come up with a preventative plan. This is just one of many examples that Ryan and I discuss in this week's podcast, which also includes insights on tools and techniques that you can utilize to to successfully plan for the most critical phase of your project - planning. What do you think about project planning? Is it critical to project success or could you do without it? The Everyday PM: Project Management Principles for Your Everyday Life
Welcome to episode 14 of The Everyday PM Podcast where we discuss stakeholder management and dealing with various personality types. A huge part of our role as project managers is to deal with people. Stakeholders are defined as a person or party with an interest in your project. The process of stakeholder management starts with identifying who has an interest in the project and what their needs are. Once you have this understanding documented, you will plan for various tasks like status reporting and approvals to engage each of your stakeholders. Proper stakeholder management is key to the success of any project. For this reason, Ryan Myers and I discuss this very topic and guidance on how best to manage them. Whether you're managing people as part of your project or daily life, it's important for us to understand each person's role. Doing so will not only help in our daily interactions, but in satisfying our collective expectations and needs for the project (we call life). What are your thoughts on the stakeholder management process? Do you have any best practices to share in regard to working with and managing people? Just remember that at the end of the day, stakeholders are just people like you and I. **** Follow Our Hosts on LinkedIn: Ann Campea, MSPM, MPH, PMP Worldwide Readiness Program Manager, Apple, Inc. Scope creep... It happens. Simply put, scope creep occurs when the scope, deliverables, or features on a project expand from what was originally set—without being accounted for in additional time or budget. How do project managers play a role in scope creep? How can scope creep hurt your projects? Managing scope creep is an intricate art, as it can have both positive and negative effects on your project. Ryan Myers, Operations Manager/Senior Project Manager at Haven Agency, joins me to discuss what scope creep is and how to manage stakeholder expectations.
