I speak with Josh Moore, combat Marine, former SWAT and law enforcement officer with Orange County Police Department, husband and father of two young girls and head of sales of a tech startup company called INVI Mindhealth™.  Josh and I formed a friendship over the past year when I joined INVI as their medical director.  I first heard Josh's story as he spoke last summer in front of a large SWAT audience, recounting a series of horrific firefights at a forward operating base in Afghanistan, where he suffered the loss of two of his friends Geno Mills and Hunter Hogan.  Josh joins us to share his full story, from leaving home after high school, graduation from the Marine Corps, and deployment to Afghanistan in 2012.  During the months of deployment, he details the ominous buildup of enemy forces around their outpost culminating in a sudden series of ambushes against an overwhelming force.  With terrifying granularity, he describes each crystalized second of the attack, enemy bullets snapping over his head, returning machine gun fire to protect his team mates, and how in the span of 3 minutes, his platoon was nearly overrun and Geno Mills was mortally wounded.  Then, already reeling from grief, the following day, while leading his platoon on patrol, Josh and his team are attacked again, and Hunter Hogan was killed by sniper fire. Josh was 19 years old.  The ghosts of that deployment in Afghanistan haunted him, and struggling with severe depression, Josh left the Marine Corps.  He tried to balance reentry into the civilian world, a young family, and a new career in law enforcement and SWAT.  But like so many veterans of combat, Josh fought a 20-year war with PTSD, depression and substance dependence.  His incredible narrative is a journey of loss, reckoning, and ultimately of healing.   Thanks for listening to and supporting our podcast!  Please follow the podcast in Instagram: @thegritwithdrbenpeery Please reach out to with any feedback to: @drben0636 on Instagram. Jonathan Wilson is a former Navy SEAL and Founder of INVI Mindhealth. This episode documents his life and work, on and off the battlefield. Wilson's interest was set on the military at an early age, as his Father was an MP and traveling around became the norm. He would eventually set his sights on the Naval Academy and Naval Special Warfare. Wilson's early days were marked with mischief that nearly ended his career. Yet, through fate and luck, he made it to "Hell Week." He excelled in the SEAL Teams with a demanding op tempo and fighting in some of the worst combat zones like Sadr City. After multiple deployments, he left the SEAL Team's to explore a civilian career on Wall Street. The toll a high stress career at Goldman Sachs took on his family life and the lack of purpose ultimately lead him back to the Teams. After winding down his incredible career, he went on to start the Seal Future Foundation and INVI Mindhealth. INVI is a mobile app that "leverages the connectivity of the autonomic nervous system & the mind to provide actionable analysis" of human biometrics. INVI's goal is to end the veteran suicide epidemic with monitoring and preventative measures. On this episode we're diving into the mental health conversation, and we hope it's only the beginning. Our guest is Jonathan Wilson, a former Navy SEAL with multiple deployments to both Iraq and Afghanistan. His transition journey included an MBA from University of Oxford's Said Business School and working as an equity trader at Goldman Sachs. While it all looked great on paper, he still found himself struggling with his own mental health. This led him to founding the SEAL Future Foundation in 2012. Our focus in this episode though is his role as CEO and Founder of INVI Mindhealth. They are leveraging some interesting technology to monitor physiological indicators of distress, but more importantly they're combining the tech with human to human interaction. In what is starting to becoming a theme with our favorite episodes, we threw the plan for this conversation out the window almost immediately. So join as we go down many of the rabbit holes involved in military and veteran mental health.

   I speak with Jonathan Wilson, husband and father of 5 and Navy SEAL who after completing 16 years of military service, earned his MBA from the Oxford University, Said Business School and began working as a trader with Goldman Sachs.  But, Jonathan struggled with this new integration into civilian life and fought major battles with imposter syndrome, PTSD, substance abuse and severe depression.  After a frustrating journey and failed conventional care with antidepressants, antianxiety medications and a congested VA medical system, he was ultimately, successfully treated with a combination of integrated therapy and the psychedelic, Ibogaine.  Jonathan then used his business and military background to co-found the Seal Future Foundation and INVI Mindhealth to help treat veterans suffering from depression and addiction.  We discuss the compelling evidence-based potential of psychedelic assisted therapy and his new INVI project which synthesizes connectivity and individual biometrics to track mental health and help guide therapy for men and women suffering from treatment-resistant deprerssion.  Jonathan's story is one of resilience and the imperative of always striving to do purposeful work. El periódico Diario Libre destaca hoy que el Banco central vendió los terrenos del Canódromo El coco a una empresa en la que aparece como accionista el ministro de vivienda Carlos Bonilla Sánchez. Según la nota del gratuito en la operación no hubo que recurrir a información privilegiada porque el inmueble estaba en venta desde el 2017 y no hubo alteración en el precio porque la adquisición se hizo por el monto que había sido establecido en la publicación original que fue de 298 millones de pesos. La noticia, que siempre son las malas, es que la adquirió una empresa en la que el ministro es accionista y que la operación se realizó dos meses después de que ocupara el cargo. Cuando uno ve el titular piensa una cosa y cuando lee el cuerpo otra. Es evidente que un funcionario no puede adquirir un bien público y hay que preguntar sobre el caso a la dirección de ética. Para actual en justicia yo quisiera preguntar cuántas y cuales empresas compitieron con una oferta y si acaso hubo alguna que ofreció una suma mayor a la que demandaba el vendedor que fue exactamente por la que se realizó la operación. También habría que preguntar porqué el precio se mantuvo igual durante tanto tiempo. Al ser designado en el INVI, Bonilla Sánchez presentó una declaración jurada de bienes, según la cual es socio, con 99 acciones o cuotas, en CBS Developments, empresa en la que percibe un ingreso por sueldo de RD$600,000.00. A esa empresa, de la que era socio principal y ocupaba la función de dirección y control de ejecución de proyectos completos, declaró haber entrado en enero del año 2000 y salir en septiembre de 2020. Las dudas sobre las actuaciones de los funcionarios son necesarias en tanto manejan fondos públicos y en cuanto tienen acceso a informaciones privilegiada. No conozco al ministro de vivienda, reconozco que no compró a precio menor y que no necesitó usar información privilegiada. Pero debe tener claro que usted o está en lo publico o en lo privado. Yo no sé si en este caso, que es una venta publicada hace cinco años y realizada por un organismo del nivel del Banco Central, debe actuar la dirección de compras y contrataciones pero espero una aclaración del funcionario o de la empresa. Si hay un lujo que no se puede dar el gobierno de Abinader es que se surjan dudas sobre las actuaciones de sus funcionarios. Quizá la justicia no sirva para enfrentar a los ladrones viejos pero estoy segura de que está atenta ante cualquier eventualidad que tenga que ver con esta administración. Si la justicia no sirve la ciudadanía está vigilante.
