Episode Notes We're finishing our exploration of the book UFO Contact from Andromeda by getting into the nuts and bolts (or not) of Lya's message to the semi-mysterious Professor R.N. Hernandez! As a reminder, this book and its message seems to have had a bit of a confusing journey from experiencer to reader so for a rundown of that, be sure to check out part 1 of the story in the archives. You can find UFO Contact from Andromeda at Amazon as an ebook or you can buy a horrifically expensive used hardcover. Similarly the updated translation—Prophecies of an Extraterrestrial Woman—is on Amazon as an ebook, hardcover, or paperback. Please note that purchases from these links benefit the Saucer Life! Episode Notes It's a rare Saucer Life interview! In this episode, we talk to author Gabriel Mckee about his new biography of Gray Barker: The Saucerian: UFOs, Men in Black, and the Unbelievable Life of Gray Barker. It comes out on April 22, 2025 and—having read an advance copy—I can say it is an astounding and thoroughly researched work. He was not alone in this, as witnesses came out of the woodwork and corroborated his story in remarkable detail. Episode Notes Is it an abduction? A contact experience? Both? Neither? The encounter that Carl Higdon had in October, 1974 in Wyoming is one of those strange 1970s encounters that doesn't get enough attention. After…encountering Margery Higdon's 2017 book about her husband's ordeal, I thought it would be a good subject for our approach here on The Saucer Life. Episode Notes This has been one of the most request Saucer Life topics--seriously--and it's wild. I only ever knew the basics of this story and while it's not the deepest rabbit hole we've ever been on there are definitely some twists and turns. Enough that it's gonna be a two parter. Doing this episode would have been difficult without online resources such as Jack Brewer's post on the subject at The UFO Trail, which includes a link to some great documentation gathered by James Carrion. The Men in Black, MIBs, the UFO silencers; since the 1950s, UFO witnesses have reported encounters with shadowy figures who've threatened them into silence. Or as Nick Redfern puts it in his book, The Real Men in Black: “For years—or perhaps even for centuries — the Men in Black have been elusive, predatory, fear-inducing figures, hovering with disturbing regularity upon the enigmatic fringes of the UFO subject, nurturing their own unique brand of terror and intimidation. Like true specters from the outer edge, the MIB appear from the murky darkness, and roam the countryside provoking carnage, chaos, paranoia, and fear in their wake, before returning to that same shrouded realm from which they originally oozed.” The Men in Black were born in a cold war age full of paranoia and deception, from the minds of two people: Albert Bender and Gray Barker. From there, these cloak and dagger menaces took on a life of their own as more and more witnesses came forward with tales of these strange silencers. Aaron Gulyas of The Saucer Life and Great Lakes Lore podcasts joins me to discuss the origins of the Men in Black and we trade off stories of encounters with these enigmatic figures. On episode 238 of SOMEWHERE IN THE SKIES, we are joined by author, historian, and professor, Aaron Gulyas. With recent conversations in the UFO world circling around a self-proclaimed "contactee" named Anjali, the idea of humans interacting with aliens has resurfaced in the most controversial of ways. As the mainstream begins to simply process the idea of the existence of UFOs, according to the U.S. Government, they now must wrestle with the idea that perhaps those piloting some of these UFOs are either already here, or are in fact communicating through time and space with chosen humans. But these ideas aren't new. In fact, they were all the rage in the 1950s up through the 1970s. And Aaron Gulyas has been preserving this special time in UFO history in several books he's authored and with his hit podcast, The Saucer Life. Today, he runs is through 3 of his most notable contactee stories and the eccentric people... and aliens... behind them. UFOs fall under the (very large) umbrella that is “The Paranormal”. There, I said it. I guess it's not really a controversial opinion, it's just that many people don't think of UFOs from a “paranormal” point of view. Why not? Paranormal is simply defined as “something science can't explain” and if that ain't THE definition of UFO, I don't know what is. Regardless, this Bobcast episode is another dive into the realm of the paranormal, this time all about UFOs. Aaron Gulyas, author, educator, historian and host of The Saucer Life podcast joins us to talk a little about conspiricies, UFO lore and history and creepy black Cadillacs. Music of the episode is provided by those Canadian Creeps, The Band From Planet X. Brought to you by Good Life Digestive Health.

Does Ashtar and the other Space Brothers have a secret agenda? “Exploring the Bizarre” (KCORradio.com) hosts Tim Beckley and Tim Swartz welcomes teacher, writer and historian, Aaron Gulyas to discuss the wild, often wacky world, of the UFO contactees. Since 2017, our guest has hosted “The Saucer Life,” a podcast which explores the history, lore, and culture of flying saucer belief. Since the 1950s, men and women around the world have claimed to have had contact with human-like visitors from space. Aaron explores how the "contactee" subculture has critiqued political, social and cultural trends in the United States, Europe and elsewhere. Not merely quaint relics of the 1950s Atomic Age, contactees have continued their messages of transformation into the 21st century. Regardless of whether these alleged contacts took the form of physical meetings or channeled paranormal psychic communications, or whether they actually happened at all, contactees have provided a consistently relevant source of commentary on this world and beyond. In addition to his podcast, Aaron is the author of several books, including “Extraterrestrials and the American Zeitgeist: Alien Contact Tales Since the 1950s.”

Aaron Gulyas hosts Saucer Life, a great history podcast about the early days of UFOs. Aaron comes on Conspiracy Skeptic to talk about how the UFO narrative went from kindly space brothres to shadowy conspiracies about aliens here to torture and mutilate us.
Episode Notes I've got some upcoming online presentations (which would have been in person if that was currently an option). While streaming events might not be everyone's cup of tea, they provide a great deal more access to those who can't make it to on-ground, in person events for any number of reasons. So in lieu of putting "commercials" in the next few episodes (most of which are already finished...), I thought I'd provide a little more detailed rundown of what I'll be discussing at these events: Saucer Life talk at Tecumseh District Library via Facebook Live -August 20, 7:00 PM Eastern The Strange Realities Conference- September 25-27 So please forgive this little bit of promotion. And also, please consider attending either or both of these events. The folks at Conspirinormal, who are putting on Strange Realities, have lined up a vast and varied array of guest and you know that I urge you to support libraries whenever possible, so if you're able to catch the Tecumseh presentation, that would be great. Episode Notes This went through numerous title choices before settling on this, simultaneously an apt description and an homage to another "Holiday Special" that had nothing to do with any particular real holiday. We've got fan fiction, we've got classic saucer poetry, we've got all three of our regular guest voices--Sasha, Roberta, and Nelson--along for the ride, we've got something a bit light and fun (hopefully) before coming back in the New Year. Well, the poem "Experiments" is any thing but fun. Depending on how you define "fun."
