Recently, a whistleblower asserts that a program codenamed ‘Immaculate Constellation' was established to ‘detect' and ‘quarantine' the military's best UFO imagery, as well as its best videos, eyewitness testimonies and electronic sensor evidence. This secretive Pentagon UFO data retrieval project has been hidden from Congressional oversight since 2017. This appears to be similar to programs like MJ-12 as some believe that the Majestic project was responsible for the alleged Men in Black sightings. The MIBs were agents that would harass and sometimes eliminate those who witnessed UFOs or made claims of abduction or contact with alien beings. In last week's blog, we looked at a case from Maine (we failed to identify the location) involving two young men, David Stephens and Glen Gray, who reported encounters with multiple UFOs, a period of missing time, physical symptoms, possible poltergeist activity, and a visit by a man wearing a dark blue suit (not quite an MiB) who told Stephens, “Better keep your mouth shut if you know what's good for you.” The account up to this point, as reported by Brent Raynes in the article (page 12 of the pdf) headlined “The Twilight Side of a UFO Encounter” published in the July 1976 Vol. 22, No. 2 Flying Saucer Investigator, all came from conscious recall by Stephens and Gray. Stephens later underwent regressive hypnosis to try to fill in the missing time and details came out that involved possibly being aboard a craft and examined by strange, non-human creatures. We've all heard of alien abductions. People claim to have experienced them. Books and films have been created about them. What if it was all a government lab experiment made to look like an alien abduction? Today we look into it. What are they, what do they do, where are they and do they actually exist?Email: downtherh@protonmail.com

In the first half, Dr. Eric Haseltine, a former Director of Research at the NSA, and Chris Gilbert, an MD with a PhD in Physiology, discussed their new study of the science of UFOs. "My belief is that we aren't looking at one phenomenon," said Haseltine. Some of the sightings may involve secret military craft, others could be hobbyists with drones, and people trying to fake things for their own purposes, he mused, and yet he acknowledged that some UAPs appear to be completely inexplicable and represent a kind of physics or technology beyond current scientific understanding. In their work on the subject, Haseltine and Gilbert asked different questions about UFO technology, such as what if the objects had little or no mass, which would then take very little force to move. The US Navy actually has a patent on something similar, a laser holographic projector that creates plasmas in the air in various shapes, he noted.Gilbert looked at the issue through a focus on astrobiology and the intersection of medicine and UFOs. She pointed out that there are organisms that live in extreme environments and withstand such things as the vacuum of space, high radiation, and ultra-low or ultra-high temperatures, and this may be what we find with ET life forms. In fact, she continued, extraterrestrials may just consist of one cell, and could live in our body. She also cited how some people who have come into physical contact with a UFO have abnormal white patches that show up on MRIs of their brain that are similar to patients with multiple sclerosis. Haseltine talked about how certain metal compounds like bismuth, in combination with a strong magnetic field, demonstrate levitation properties and how bismuth is said to be one of the properties in allegedly recovered UFO material.----------Author, lecturer, and Fortean researcher Justin Bamforth has been investigating paranormal and high strangeness for over 20 years. In the latter half, he shared strange cases of Men in Black (MIB), doppelgangers, phantom photographers, and unexplained interactions. He believes that a degree of stress or a particular mindset can sometimes trigger the encounters that individuals report. The MIBs are sometimes described as exhibiting odd movements and robotic-sounding voice patterns. He recalled the account of Gary in the UK, who was doing physical training in a mountainous area, and saw a man moving at a very high speed yet showing no signs of exhaustion. Curiously, the man had no ears, just a completely smooth head and teardrop eyes.Bamforth recounted the tale of Andrew in Ontario from 1993, who had set up a video camera to record a meteor shower and instead caught a UFO. The next day, on a walk, he was approached by two men in dark suits and sunglasses, who had an unusual smell about them – "like rotten eggs sprinkled with cinnamon." One of the men brought up the video recording Andrew made the previous night, and said "What you saw was nothing. I advise you to get rid of the tape, and if you don't get rid of the tape, there's going to be some serious consequences." The men had an Asian appearance, with very tiny noses and lips, and their voices sounded slightly out-of-sync with a metallic timbre. Bamforth also detailed Tammy in Texas's missing time incident and how later she had an encounter with a similar-looking man to what Andrew described, who had a voice with an eerie reverberating quality. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/georgenoory/message
Robin and Zoey are celebrating the end of the year with booze, presents, and a deep dive into the conspiracy theory of the Men In Black! You may know them from the movie, Men in Black, starring Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith that came out in 1997, the same year as your hosts. These are men who wear all black, and usually sunglasses, whose raison d'être is to prevent the common person from knowing about aliens.Zoey dives into the reason the Men in Black theory came to be, including the first few stories of them, and shares a few more stories of encounters with the mysterious Men in Black. MIBs, as we attempted to call them, are theorized to either be government spies or aliens attempting to look like humans. Zoey believes they're aliens, and Robin doesn't believe they exist. Before we get to that, though, Robin shares a Buzzfeed quiz for her Something Southern, Order A Southern Feast And We'll Guess Where You Grew Up! https://www.buzzfeed.com/jesseszewczyk/southern-feast-state-quiz Also, a reminder to everyone that Zoey's book has been published! The craziest road trip ever continues as Mibs and colony continue to travel along in the second half of Savvy. Mibs starts to figure out her savvy and how to control it, but at this point they've been taken away from their parents for over 24 hours so that's not going to end well. We follow the kids on the rest of their trip in an effort to grow up, free Lil and Lester from social restraints, and get back to Papa Beaumont which was the original point of the whole quest. We continue to enjoy the book, the family relationship, and just the whole tenor of the story so we're thrilled to keep reading in this savvy world. Next week we will be reading chapters 1-18 of book 2 in the series, Scumble. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/throwback-paperback/support

The Men in Black, MIBs, the UFO silencers; since the 1950s, UFO witnesses have reported encounters with shadowy figures who've threatened them into silence. Or as Nick Redfern puts it in his book, The Real Men in Black: “For years—or perhaps even for centuries — the Men in Black have been elusive, predatory, fear-inducing figures, hovering with disturbing regularity upon the enigmatic fringes of the UFO subject, nurturing their own unique brand of terror and intimidation. Like true specters from the outer edge, the MIB appear from the murky darkness, and roam the countryside provoking carnage, chaos, paranoia, and fear in their wake, before returning to that same shrouded realm from which they originally oozed.” The Men in Black were born in a cold war age full of paranoia and deception, from the minds of two people: Albert Bender and Gray Barker. From there, these cloak and dagger menaces took on a life of their own as more and more witnesses came forward with tales of these strange silencers. Aaron Gulyas of The Saucer Life and Great Lakes Lore podcasts joins me to discuss the origins of the Men in Black and we trade off stories of encounters with these enigmatic figures. Men in black: A preliminary ReportWikis: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Men_in_blackImages Loose Script:The MIBs in PortsmouthHey everyone, and welcome or welcome back to another episode of nightmare now, the show where we muse on the mysteries of the multiverse every week and cover macabre machinations and morbidities monthly. I'm your host, Erik Byrne and man do I have a freaky topic for you today! But first some exciting news from our sponsor. Me, it's just me. I pay to host the show and website. I'm the sponsor, but anyway we surpassed 300 downloads the other day and we're live in a few more countries and platforms! I'm getting some feedback from people who I haven't known for year or even at all, so if you don't know me personally and you're still checking out the show, thanks! We're glad to have ya! Ok lets get down to business with the topic tonight. I think this is our first alien show proper, but I'm sure there's gonna be plenty more, unless these guys show up and wipe my brain, That's right we're talking the MEN IN BLACK, the second scariest thing under that title, the first has gotta be that pitbull tie in song for the third MIB movie. Our source this evening is robert Bulls “Men in Black: A preliminary Report” from 1997For the uninitiated, and no the 1997 will smith and tommy lee jones movie and sequels aren't a primer on this stuff, but great nonetheless, For the uninitiated, men in black are part of conspiracy theory dating back to the late 1940s, post World war II when the world was engulfed in saucer mania. Pilots reported flying saucers, people saw glowing orbs that learn to fly, or that were learning to walk again. These were known as foo fighters, though some would claim that these foo fighters were just a pretender trying to get the best of you. I could go on everlong about the orbs sighted, breaking the sound barrier and performing seemingly impossible ariel stunts but I think it would kind of throw a monkey wrench into the plan for this episode. You'd be sitting there listening expecting men in black content and I'd just be talking about orbs, you'd unsubscribe and shrug and say there goes my hero, I guess. In the panic of saucers and foo fighters people were seeing all sorts of crazy s**t in the sky, some of it may have been aliens buzzing the planet to check out the grand canyon or trying to pick up earth chicks and some of it could have been advanced government military technology prepping for the earliest stages of the cold war. Give it a few years when eisenhower got into office and it was probably both. But President eisenhower pimping out americans for vivisection in exchange for alien technology is a whole nother can of worms that warrants an episode all on it's own. Damn I'm getting myself all wound up here, it's just that the ufo phenomena is a subject that, like a tar pit, is as wide as it is sticky, murky, deep and greasy. I'll get to all this stuff in due time though. For now, the men in black. Upon seeing all this wild s**t in the sky people would chat up their friends and coworkers or the newspapers or whatever, they didn't have podcasts to avoid social interaction back then. If witnesses got too chatty about what they saw, or if they started looking too deep into the phenomena that's when they showed up. You'd be sitting around the kitchen table when the phone would ring. Now who could that possibly be at this hour, what a rascal! You'd pick it up and the voice would say in an eerie facsimile of human speech that it was a UFO researcher that wanted to hear about your experience. You'd agree something like now, sure son we can set something up CLICK They would hang up. And within seconds there would be a knock on your door. You open it to see a tall, unusually thin man dressed all in black maybe with one or two others. “Hello Mr Listener, we spoke earlier on the phone, We'd like to come in, perhaps ingest a water glass.” Their clothes are always carefully manicured, complete with sharp pleats as if they had come right off the rack. Unusually pale, larger than normal eyes, Is anya taylor joy an MIB?Sometimes completely hairless, no eyebrows, facial hair, nothing, other times a greasy combover, These guys set off every uncanny valley warning alarm you have. Aside from their unsettling appearance, people who encountered them reported unusual behavior. Like they had to take a crash course on human society by watching movies and then trying to fit in, being vaguely aware of human behavior but utterly unable to comprehend nuance. Like they would ask for water to ingest and then just rest a hand in it or something like that. Other times they were more aggressive, shoving and threatening people with ice cold hands. But some things were always the same. A feeling of unease, the intruders asking if they had seen anything unusual, days after the witness had seen a ufo or other phenomena. And a warning, implicit or explicit. To not look into this further, and to not tell anyone what you saw. They claimed to be from the government and usually drove black cadillacs. People still encounter the MIBs to this very day. There's a lot more to the MIB phenomena as a whole and I want time to read a book or two, to put together a long episode on them from their origins to notable encounters, but today I'm gonna take a look at one wild set of encounters that didn't take place in 1950s roswell, but instead right here on my street in 1977 portsmouth new hampshire. Additionally I'm too afraid to do the full research right now for what it's worth. I've been house sitting for a friend out in the woods this past week and every time I take the dog out at night I get the feeling that someone is watching me, just beyond the porch light. A bush rustles, A twig snaps and I book it inside. Sitting by the fire late at night and reading about them showing up and threatening people really gives me the f**king creeps. Our story begins with a Mrs. Evans. She used an alias, so don't go harassing old women named Mrs Evans, portsmouth people. Although if you do know who it is and feel like she'd be up for an interview, let me know at nightmarenow.com the icons on the site will take you to all the social media or email links you might need.Mrs Evans was at the local grocery store, literally I can picture walking there from here, not in 1977, I wasn't alive yet, but the road there still exists. So she's at the grocery store looking at the national enquirer or whatever was in the checkout aisle back then. When she sees him, dressed all in black, with a fedora. There's actually a sketch of this one I'll throw in the show notes, Mrs Evans was apparently an artist.. He had stark white skin and jet black eyes. Already freaky, but then there's weird details. He had wide shoulders and a tiny waist like he had a corset under his suit jacket. And later he walked with a stiff gait, apparently with no curvature of the spine. I don't think I've ever really noticed the curvature of a strangers spine unless it's like, igor level f**ked up but it's an interesting thing to point out. The Man, I guess we'll call him a man even though he could very well be an alien, was being handed his change by the cashier, whom he was ignoring. Instead opting to stare backwards at Mrs Evans in the checkout line with an eerie glare. Eventually the cashier managed to get his attention and give him his change and he left but the encounter was unnerving. Evans chalked it up to the guy being a creep and pushed the thought from her mind. That was all well and good until she leaves the store and he's standing there as if he's expecting her, I mean why wouldn't he, it was probably the only way out of the grocery store. But I digress. 09Mrs evans at this point just wants to get the hell out of there with her groceries and kind of takes off speed walking towards her home. The Man in black starts going the same direction, and by the time they leave the parking lot his long strides have him walking five or six steps ahead of her. He hasn't said a word or anything at this point, just given her that glare in the store. Suddenly he makes an almost robotic 90 degree turn to the left and heads down a side street, Mrs evans wants to ignore him and move on towards home but her curiosity gets the better of her and she looks to her left to see if he's gone, having hopefully walked down the other street and out of her life but she's got no such luck. She drops a bag of her groceries and her blood goes ice cold. The man is standing in the middle of the street staring directly at her. At this point she's passed the street the man supposedly went down so either he silently sprinted to catch up to her or he teleported or some other kind of spatial f**kery. He still doesn't make a sound nor does he make an expression on his pallid face. He just stands there nodding like that f**king jack nicholson gif from anger management. He nods three times and completely vanishes, she said it was like a light turning off and he was gone. He didn't move, he didn't fade out, just a blink and he wasn't there anymore. God can you imagine if that's at night? He pops up right next to you under a street light and then disappears. I couldn't find a time of day for this story other than late august of 1977. It's so damn creepy it gives me the chills.I wrote some more of this outline today but last night the stuff in the woods escalated. Maybe it's late, maybe I'm paranoid but I swear I saw a f**king grey run by just outside the backyard light. Bout three, four feet tall, greyish seemingly bipedal. The dog looked up at it too, so it wasn't just my imagination. I guess it could be a deer, but I know about all the stories about looking into this kind of phenomena, doing this kind of research is usually exactly how people end up having run ins with the MIBS, so I'm excited to get on with some more i don't know grounded topics so I'm not being harassed by aliens while I'm trying to enjoy my non show related, non work related time. As the book presents, though, that wasn't the last mysterious encounter mrs evans suffered, again, if any of my friends in portsmouth, is this your grandma I guess 1977 could be just your mother, let me know, I'll be gentle, I swear. She seems cool as f**k and I believe what she's putting out. So that's it, end of show. I wasted 20 minutes of your day to see a gangly rude albino jack nicholson. That was it. See ya next week.f**k off you think that's all I got for an episode, I know it's late today but give me a break I'm getting harassed by greys, in an unfamiliar environment. That wasn't the last of Mrs evans peculiar encounters, in fact it wasn't even the first! As a child she reported poltergeist activity, As a young woman in the 1960s she reported seeing a man in a quote air force uniform with a sad affect” that walked with her for a week but never again. That one doesn't sound paranormal, just a dude shooting his shot. Later in 1977 she saw a UFO now this is where things get juicy because aside from the thirsty airman who I really don't believe was an otherworldly entity, her life was fairly normal. She sees a UFO in winter of 77 with her husband. We've got multiple witnesses here, that's important as far as UFOs go. In late 1978 and early 79 she reports burns and lacerations on her skin after quote “restless nights” for those of us familiar with the lore, this is textbook alien abduction and experimentation, and the portsmouth area is honestly, well known for alien abductions, Iv'e had a cigar or two at night in my yard and I haven't seen s**t but exeter, the next town over is the site of the famous, or infamous, depending on how dramatic you want to be betty and barney hill abductions of the early I want to say 1950s. They'll get their own episode someday, maybe even on location, I'm pretty sure there's a monument to them out on 101. She cops to A DOZEN or so UFO sightings from December 1978 to november 1979, it seems like after her original encounter she was intertwined with the phenomena. Why that is is entirely unclear. And this is kind of unusual, she didn't see UFOs until after encountering the MIB. Normally it's the opposite. You see the UFO and then the MIBs try to shut you up after the fact. Interestingly enough Mrs Evans' father reported a UFO as early as 1973, which could point to some familial link, common in abduction and visitation cases like this. I'm gonna start jumping all over her timeline though because the experiences she had after the fact are simply put, unbelievable. And we get to start going into her poor husband, the man that thought he was constantly being cucked by the men in black.Good ol' Joe Evans, I'm one hundred percent making that name up so if that's your name, sorry. Ol Joe evans walks into the kitchen one day, and sees his wife mrs evans, lets call her sandy from now on, it's an alias after all, so sandy is cooking up some fire 1979 Chili or horrific jello cake or something and joe walks in to see his beloved wife, and standing behind her, a gangly man dressed in a neatly ironed suit, He asks who the f**k is this! And sandy turns around and screams, she didn't realize he was even there. The MIB who quote “Didn't look solid” unquote appeared to phase STRAIGHT THROUGH the kitchen door and disappear into the night. Another time a year later Sandy was working in her garden and Joe came home to see the same lanky dude hanging out behind her, probably hip thrusting away without her knowledge as she bent over to pluck carrots from the soil. Furious he thought he was getting cucked again, he shouted who the f**k is that what the f**k is going on and shge again, turned around and screamed and the MIB ran straight through the hedge in their yard as if it wasn't there. Kind of funny to think that maybe she was getting some side action and the dude was covering himself in flour or something to hide it but the sheer amount of sightings and documentation makes me think he wasn't getting cucked by any average human. Another time and the date isn't specified, Sandy saw a man in a flight suit of some kind, olive skinned with his hands up over his head that walked right by her, keeping his hands up like a surgeon, in the “Scrub up position” With quote the baleful eyes of a fish. This to me doesn't seem like an MIB. They usually have extremely pale skin and are often quite tall. It sounds like here she ran into the f**king great cornholio looking for TP, but it was worth including for the beavis and butthead reference. Another time, she saw a van with a mysterious midget appearing from within it and walk by ignoring her. Again, I don't think this is paranormal, I think it was just a little person trying to go about his business, some of these accounts really didn't need to be published but robert bull, the author of the book, felt the need to be exhaustive. Later though she was working on the hedges again, and suddenly the hedges parted, revealing two faces that she thought were just neighborhood children, foolin around. But then she noted that they weren't in fact children, but older and inhuman in form, the only noise they made was the kissy noise one uses when one wants to summon a cat, and then they reached out of the bushes with misshapen hands like fleshy lobster claws without the shell. She ran into the house and was unable to scream, when she came back out with her husband joe, no lobster children were to be found anywhere. But what she did see was a shadowy figure walking down the road. A figure that Mrs Evan's own neighbor would eventually confess to see prowling around her own home That's a huge detail, that's multiple witnesses and corroborations of the story. As far as I'm concerned I believe all this happened. As for her getting piped up by an MIB, the jury is still out but I'm sure Joe Evans doesn't feel great about it. As I write this I'm lookin out the window to see if I can catch any of this craziness. This is all in my home neighborhood. I live right near this grocery store.Jeez hearing this s**t makes me wonder if I should move out of this alien infested town. All though most of the spooky s**t I see is crackheads hanging around gosling meadows, not exactly an otherworldly existential threat.I'm gonna riff off some of the smaller encounters she had after the initial one at the grocery store here, these don't have dates or as much description as the others, but I feel like they're more than interesting enough to include. Mrs Evans reported a blood-like, jelly like red substance coating objects in her home spontaneously. This is interesting because this is something you see in a lot of haunting or poltergeist style cases in the lore. I believe that somewhere out there waiting to be hashed out and dictated is a unified theory of paranormal experiences. The deeper you go in this field the more you recognize disparate phenomena overlapping in an ever complicating venn diagram. Aliens are related to old timey fairy lore, are related to government coverups are related to hauntings and ghost are related to cryptids and more. I truly believe that there's more linking bigfoot, aliens, space, earth, the depth of the ocean and the mind, and the human psyche than we can truly know right now. Jumping off that train of thought Mrs evans reported puffs of yellow smoke, smelling of quote wet zoo animal and sulphur”. This ties in demonolgoy and biology into all the bulls**t I talked about a second ago. ITS ALL CONNECTED. Mrs Evans has still further strange experiences, She reports her purse floating from her table to her hand, firebolts shooting from her fingertips and her tea kettle letting out ethereal howls without having any water or even a stove on. She's a one woman microcosm of fortean phenomena! She reports some premonitions of IRA attacks and plane crashes and stuff but I honestly feel these are a more spurious reach than the rest of the thing's she's going through.Robert bull collects all this over a series of interviews in a preliminary report and goes on to follow up when Mrs Evans agrees to go under a psychiatric examination. THey report no signs of schizophrenia or other mental disorders, and Sandy Evans Reports “Never touching a drop” with regards to booze or other substances. Robert comes to the conclusion that she's just an extraordinary woman with extraordinary experiences. Her husband really was just made as hell that ebay time he would be gone he'd come home and a tall gangly dude would be giving his wife a shoulder massage and then float through the f**kING WALL when he called out. Again if anyone knows these guys real names and if their up for an interview, let me know at nightmarenowpodcast@gmail.comThat just about wraps up the tale of Mrs Evans and the portsmouth MIBs, but I'm sure there's more to uncover right here at home. I'm recording in a haunted house after all! Thanks again for everyone listening, Thanks for 300 downloads, that's huge! Tell your friends about the show and if you've got something you want me to cover and riff off of send it my way. As always, I'd wish you all sweet dreams, but we all know it's only gonna be nightmares now! Especially for me with the Greys running around my woods! See ya next week!

The extraterrestrial comedy podcast where we probe the Men in Black. Wow, one hundred episodes! Thank you for joining us on this ride. For episode 100, we thought rather than patting each other on the back, we'd bring to you a feature length presentation on our previous employers, the MiB. The Mibs. We roll through several cases associated with these nefarious individuals from Harold Dahl's famous account in 1947 all the way to a Niagara Falls hotel sighting in 2008. Along the way, Moonwalker realises that he's the sceptical one and has a change of heart. Can Moonie keep it up? We discover the real, serious business that the Men in Black cover. We ponder whether MiB's wear human suits or simply take over human consciousness? On the note of suits, is there a MiB uniform and as a new MiB is it the last suit you'll ever wear? We ask ourselves why dogs may not like MiB's and come up with an allegedly truthful answer. How does this all tie to Dan Aykroyd? All that and more on this week's lengthy, large, monster of a file. This was composed by Martin O'Donnell and Michael Salvatori and was of course the theme from Bungie's Halo: Combat Evolved (as well as subsequent releases, with 343 Industries now at the helm courtesy of Microsoft and Xbox Game Studios). Not for Moonwalker so much but Greybeard has wonderful memories of playing through Halo 3 with a friend from university (who grenade-jumped in to the scarab) meanwhile, Greybeard still hasn't recovered from the emotional impact of playing through Halo: Reach and in particular, the last stand. For the second time in the podcast, you will also have heard the first section of the Lemmiwinks song (The Ballad of Lemmiwinks) from South Park season 6 episode 14. Thank you to Trey Parker and Matt Stone along with everyone at South Park Studios once again for clearly inspiring our humour for decades to come. On the note of inspiration, purely because Greybeard absolutely loves the franchise, we included the Fortune Telling House Theme from the The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past which was released on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1991 (Japan) and 1992 (North America and the United Kingdom/Europe). The music was composed by series legend Kōji Kondō. A bit of But It Was Aliens trivia for you - Greybeard has played through A Link to the Past to completion more than any other game he has ever owned. It holds up. Following on from that, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time's Shop Theme was also utilised, again composed by Kōji Kondō. We love Nintendo. 100. Damn.
Tune in this week for our 100th episode as we get into the infamous Men In Black. For many, one incident brought the UFO topic into the mainstream and even over 70 years later, people can't get enough of it. Of course I am refering to the Roswell incident. July 1947 saw strange reports hit the press, then an official retraction and it seemed the case died down until the late 1970s saw the case re-ignited, primarily by Jesse Marcell who had decided to come clean about the event to ease his concious. Since then hundreds of witnessses have come forward but what may surprise you is the number of celebrities, from actors and musicians to investigative journalists and royalty have all become obsessed with Roswell. Joining me to discuss his latest book, co-authored with Donald Schmidt is Thomas Carey who has spent years researching the Roswell incident. A noted investigator on Roswell, "Touched By Roswell - Crash Encounters of the Rich and Famous introduces us to over 100 notable individuals who all share an connection with that night back in July 1947. Many of them will surprise you and Thomas and I discuss several of the celebrities he covers in the book and the Roswell case in general. A big thank you to Thomas for joining me this week. These menacing figures have been popularized in recent years with Hollywood blockbuster UFOs and Aliens science fiction movies, even to the point of being interpreted as the good guys, and yet, their actual history of interacting with journalists, researchers, and witnesses has proven that they represent something dark and sinister rather than positive and a force for good. In many instances over the decades, UFO witnesses have been harassed, and intimidated into keeping their accounts out of the public eye, and in some very bizarre cases, being approached even before they have told anyone of their sighting - so how would these Men in Black know about the sighting..? Could they be agents of some alien group, or are they alien themselves..? It seems like the mystery has many facets. They could be Government intelligence agents working to keep the topic of UFOs and alien visitations suppressed in some kind of dark conspiracy and cover up, while another group could be alien hybrids, and even some suggestions that these individuals may come from an entirely different dimension. Could there be a connection to the Shadow People, or even the Black Eyed Kids..?? In this episode, Cristina will guide you through a selection of the most mysterious and inexplicable tales of Encounters between UFO witnesses, researchers, journalists, and authors and the intimidating Men in Black.
In part three, the final episode in our series on the Men in Black, John Keel would go on to form even more conclusions on aliens and the Men in Black, even comparing them to the bible, forming his own Ancient Aliens theory, along with Starseeds, and Doom. Since the 1950's, the Men in Black have gone hand in hand with UFO encounters. The only thing we know for sure is that their goal is to cover up UFO sightings and keep witnesses silent. In this episode we explore a few first-hand accounts with MIBs, which unfortunately don't include Will Smith or Tommy Lee Jones, but maybe another comedic star… Who are the Men in Black? Are they government agents? Extraterrestrials in disguise? Complete and utter horse shit? Tune in to find out. Music by: CO.AG Music https://www.facebook.com/COAG-Music-146339785905623/

Troy D Black Was born and raised in Wytheville, VA. I am 48, married 28 years and have two children (grown). I've called several places home over the years including Charlotte, NC and Roanoke, VA. Some could say I was born into the paranormal. Being raised in the country I would listen the older people tell stories about houses that were haunted and places in the woods that should never be visited at night. As I got older I experienced ghostly encounters enough to where I put together a group when I was in high school. I then got into UFO's, Bigfoot, MIBs and corners of the supernatural. I've worked in several different factory and a few small government jobs. And in security as well. But no matter where I have lived or visited I was always drawn to those places that many only whisper about. Do I believe in the paranormal and other mysteries like it? When you have seen things that others say can't be real it is easy to say yes. I would enjoy putting another team together. But until that time I will continue to read, research and interview when I can.
We cover TrueOS/Lumina working to be less dependent on Linux, How the IllumOS network stack works, Throttling the password gropers & the 64 bit inode call for testing. This episode was brought to you by Headlines vBSDCon CFP closed April 29th (https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=vbsdcon2017) EuroBSDCon CFP closes April 30th (https://2017.eurobsdcon.org/2017/03/13/call-for-proposals/) Developer Commentary: Philosophy, Evolution of TrueOS/Lumina, and Other Thoughts. (https://www.trueos.org/blog/developer-commentary-philosophy-evolution-trueoslumina-thoughts/) Philosophy of Development No project is an island. Every single project needs or uses some other external utility, library, communications format, standards compliance, and more in order to be useful. A static project is typically a dead project. A project needs regular upkeep and maintenance to ensure it continues to build and run with the current ecosystem of libraries and utilities, even if the project has no considerable changes to the code base or feature set. “Upstream” decisions can have drastic consequences on your project. Through no fault of yours, your project can be rendered obsolete or broken by changing standards in the global ecosystem that affect your project's dependencies. Operating system focus is key. What OS is the project originally designed for? This determines how the “upstream” dependencies list appears and which “heartbeat” to monitor. Evolution of PC-BSD, Lumina, and TrueOS. With these principles in mind – let's look at PC-BSD, Lumina, and TrueOS. PC-BSD : PC-BSD was largely designed around KDE on FreeBSD. KDE/Plasma5 has been available for Linux OS's for well over a year, but is still not generally available on FreeBSD. It is still tucked away in the experimental “area51” repository where people are trying to get it working first. Lumina : As a developer with PC-BSD for a long time, and a tester from nearly the beginning of the project, I was keenly aware the “winds of change” were blowing in the open-source ecosystem. TrueOS : All of these ecosystem changes finally came to a head for us near the beginning of 2016. KDE4 was starting to deteriorate underneath us, and the FreeBSD “Release” branch would never allow us to compete with the rate of graphics driver or standards changes coming out of the Linux camp. The Rename and Next Steps With all of these changes and the lack of a clear “upgrade” path from PC-BSD to the new systems, we decided it was necessary to change the project itself (name and all). To us, this was the only way to ensure people were aware of the differences, and that TrueOS really is a different kind of project from PC-BSD. Note this was not a “hostile takeover” of the PC-BSD project by rabid FreeBSD fanatics. This was more a refocusing of the PC-BSD project into something that could ensure longevity and reliability for the foreseeable future. Does TrueOS have bugs and issues? Of course! That is the nature of “rolling” with upstream changes all the time. Not only do you always get the latest version of something (a good thing), you also find yourself on the “front line” for finding and reporting bugs in those same applications (a bad thing if you like consistency or stability). What you are also seeing is just how much “churn” happens in the open-source ecosystem at any given time. We are devoted to providing our users (and ourselves – don't forget we use TrueOS every day too!) a stable, reliable, and secure experience. Please be patient as we continue striving toward this goal in the best way possible, not just doing what works for the moment, but the project's future too. Robert Mustacchi: Excerpts from The Soft Ring Cycle #1 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vnD10WQ2930) The author of the “Turtles on the Wire” post we featured the other week, is back with a video. Joyent has started a new series of lunchtime technical discussions to share information as they grow their engineering team This video focuses on the network stack, how it works, and how it relates to virtualization and multi-tenancy Basically, how the network stack on IllumOS works when you have virtual tenants, be they virtual machines or zones The video describes the many layers of the network stack, how they work together, and how they can be made to work quickly It also talks about the trade-offs between high throughput and low latency How security is enforced, so virtual tenants cannot send packets into VLANs they are not members of, or receive traffic that they are not allowed to by the administrator How incoming packets are classified, and eventually delivered to the intended destination How the system decides if it has enough available resources to process the packet, or if it needs to be dropped How interface polling works on IllumOS (a lot different than on FreeBSD) Then the last 20 minutes are about how the qemu interface of the KVM hypervisor interfaces with the network stack We look forward to seeing more of these videos as they come out *** Forcing the password gropers through a smaller hole with OpenBSD's PF queues (http://bsdly.blogspot.com/2017/04/forcing-password-gropers-through.html) While preparing material for the upcoming BSDCan PF and networking tutorial (http://www.bsdcan.org/2017/schedule/events/805.en.html), I realized that the pop3 gropers were actually not much fun to watch anymore. So I used the traffic shaping features of my OpenBSD firewall to let the miscreants inflict some pain on themselves. Watching logs became fun again. The actual useful parts of this article follow - take this as a walkthrough of how to mitigate a wide range of threats and annoyances. First, analyze the behavior that you want to defend against. In our case that's fairly obvious: We have a service that's getting a volume of unwanted traffic, and looking at our logs the attempts come fairly quickly with a number of repeated attempts from each source address. I've written about the rapid-fire ssh bruteforce attacks and their mitigation before (and of course it's in The Book of PF) as well as the slower kind where those techniques actually come up short. The traditional approach to ssh bruteforcers has been to simply block their traffic, and the state-tracking features of PF let you set up overload criteria that add the source addresses to the table that holds the addresses you want to block. For the system that runs our pop3 service, we also have a PF ruleset in place with queues for traffic shaping. For some odd reason that ruleset is fairly close to the HFSC traffic shaper example in The Book of PF, and it contains a queue that I set up mainly as an experiment to annoy spammers (as in, the ones that are already for one reason or the other blacklisted by our spamd). The queue is defined like this: queue spamd parent rootq bandwidth 1K min 0K max 1K qlimit 300 yes, that's right. A queue with a maximum throughput of 1 kilobit per second. I have been warned that this is small enough that the code may be unable to strictly enforce that limit due to the timer resolution in the HFSC code. But that didn't keep me from trying. Now a few small additions to the ruleset are needed for the good to put the evil to the task. We start with a table to hold the addresses we want to mess with. Actually, I'll add two, for reasons that will become clear later: table persist counters table persist counters The rules that use those tables are: block drop log (all) quick from pass in quick log (all) on egress proto tcp from to port pop3 flags S/SA keep state (max-src-conn 2, max-src-conn-rate 3/3, overload flush global, pflow) set queue spamd pass in log (all) on egress proto tcp to port pop3 flags S/SA keep state (max-src-conn 5, max-src-conn-rate 6/3, overload flush global, pflow) The last one lets anybody connect to the pop3 service, but any one source address can have only open five simultaneous connections and at a rate of six over three seconds. The results were immediately visible. Monitoring the queues using pfctl -vvsq shows the tiny queue works as expected: queue spamd parent rootq bandwidth 1K, max 1K qlimit 300 [ pkts: 196136 bytes: 12157940 dropped pkts: 398350 bytes: 24692564 ] [ qlength: 300/300 ] [ measured: 2.0 packets/s, 999.13 b/s ] and looking at the pop3 daemon's log entries, a typical encounter looks like this: Apr 19 22:39:33 skapet spop3d[44875]: connect from 111.181.52.216 Apr 19 22:39:33 skapet spop3d[75112]: connect from 111.181.52.216 Apr 19 22:39:34 skapet spop3d[57116]: connect from 111.181.52.216 Apr 19 22:39:34 skapet spop3d[65982]: connect from 111.181.52.216 Apr 19 22:39:34 skapet spop3d[58964]: connect from 111.181.52.216 Apr 19 22:40:34 skapet spop3d[12410]: autologout time elapsed - 111.181.52.216 Apr 19 22:40:34 skapet spop3d[63573]: autologout time elapsed - 111.181.52.216 Apr 19 22:40:34 skapet spop3d[76113]: autologout time elapsed - 111.181.52.216 Apr 19 22:40:34 skapet spop3d[23524]: autologout time elapsed - 111.181.52.216 Apr 19 22:40:34 skapet spop3d[16916]: autologout time elapsed - 111.181.52.216 here the miscreant comes in way too fast and only manages to get five connections going before they're shunted to the tiny queue to fight it out with known spammers for a share of bandwidth. One important takeaway from this, and possibly the most important point of this article, is that it does not take a lot of imagination to retool this setup to watch for and protect against undesirable activity directed at essentially any network service. You pick the service and the ports it uses, then figure out what are the parameters that determine what is acceptable behavior. Once you have those parameters defined, you can choose to assign to a minimal queue like in this example, block outright, redirect to something unpleasant or even pass with a low probability. 64-bit inodes (ino64) Status Update and Call for Testing (https://lists.freebsd.org/pipermail/freebsd-fs/2017-April/024684.html) Inodes are data structures corresponding to objects in a file system, such as files and directories. FreeBSD has historically used 32-bit values to identify inodes, which limits file systems to somewhat under 2^32 objects. Many modern file systems internally use 64-bit identifiers and FreeBSD needs to follow suit to properly and fully support these file systems. The 64-bit inode project, also known as ino64, started life many years ago as a project by Gleb Kurtsou (gleb@). After that time several people have had a hand in updating it and addressing regressions, after mckusick@ picked up and updated the patch, and acted as a flag-waver. Overview : The ino64 branch extends the basic system types inot and devt from 32-bit to 64-bit, and nlink_t from 16-bit to 64-bit. Motivation : The main risk of the ino64 change is the uncontrolled ABI breakage. Quirks : We handled kinfo sysctl MIBs, but other MIBs which report structures depended on the changed type, are not handled in general. It was considered that the breakage is either in the management interfaces, where we usually allow ABI slip, or is not important. Testing procedure : The ino64 project can be tested by cloning the project branch from GitHub or by applying the patch to a working tree. New kernel, old world. New kernel, new world, old third-party applications. 32bit compat. Targeted tests. NFS server and client test Other filesystems Test accounting Ports Status with ino64 : A ports exp-run for ino64 is open in PR 218320. 5.1. LLVM : LLVM includes a component called Address Sanitizer or ASAN, which triesto intercept syscalls, and contains knowledge of the layout of many system structures. Since stat and lstat syscalls were removed and several types and structures changed, this has to be reflected in the ASAN hacks. 5.2. lang/ghc : The ghc compiler and parts of the runtime are written in Haskell, which means that to compile ghc, you need a working Haskell compiler for bootstrap. 5.3. lang/rust Rustc has a similar structure to GHC, and same issue. The same solution of patching the bootstrap was done. Next Steps : The tentative schedule for the ino64 project: 2017-04-20 Post wide call for testing : Investigate and address port failures with maintainer support 2017-05-05 Request second exp-run with initial patches applied : Investigate and address port failures with maintainer support 2017-05-19 Commit to HEAD : Address post-commit failures where feasible *** News Roundup Sing, beastie, sing! (http://meka.rs/blog/2017/01/25/sing-beastie-sing/) FreeBSD digital audio workstation, or DAW for short, is now possible. At this very moment it's not user friendly that much, but you'll manage. What I want to say is that I worked on porting some of the audio apps to FreeBSD, met some other people interested in porting audio stuff and became heavily involved with DrumGizmo - drum sampling engine. Let me start with the basic setup. FreeBSD doesn't have hard real-time support, but it's pretty close. For the needs of audio, FreeBSD's implementation of real-time is sufficient and, in my opinion, superior to the one you can get on Linux with RT path (which is ugly, not supported by distributions and breaks apps like VirtualBox). As default install of FreeBSD is concerned with real-time too much, we have to tweak sysctl a bit, so append this to your /etc/sysctl.conf: kern.timecounter.alloweddeviation=0 hw.usb.uaudio.buffer_ms=2 # only on -STABLE for now hw.snd.latency=0 kern.coredump=0 So let me go through the list. First item tells FreeBSD how many events it can aggregate (or wait for) before emitting them. The reason this is the default is because aggregating events saves power a bit, and currently more laptops are running FreeBSD than DAWs. Second one is the lowest possible buffer for USB audio driver. If you're not using USB audio, this won't change a thing. Third one has nothing to do with real-time, but dealing with programs that consume ~3GB of RAM, dumping cores around made a problem on my machine. Besides, core dumps are only useful if you know how to debug the problem, or someone is willing to do that for you. I like to not generate those files by default, but if some app is constantly crashing, I enable dumps, run the app, crash it, and disable dumps again. I lost 30GB in under a minute by examining 10 different drumkits of DrumGizmo and all of them gave me 3GB of core file, each. More setup instructions follow, including jackd setup and PulseAudio using virtual_oss. With this setup I can play OSS, JACK and PulseAudio sound all at the same time, which I was not able to do on Linux. FreeBSD 11 Unbound DNS server (https://itso.dk/?p=499) In FreeBSD, there is a built-in DNS server called Unbound. So why would run a local DNS server? I am in a region where internet traffic is still a bit expensive, that also implies slow, and high response times. To speed that a up a little, you can use own DNS server. It will speed up because for every homepage you visit, there will be several hooks to other domains: commercials, site components, and links to other sites. These, will now all be cached locally on your new DNS server. In my case I use an old PC-Engine Alix board for my home DNS server, but you can use almost everything, Raspberry Pi, old laptop/desktop and others. As long as it runs FreeBSD. Goes into more details about what commands to run and which services to start Try it out if you are in a similar situation *** Why it is important that documentation and tutorials be correct and carefully reviewed (https://arxiv.org/pdf/1704.02786.pdf) A group of researchers found that a lot of online web programming tutorials contain serious security flaws. They decided to do a research project to see how this impacts software that is written possibly based on those tutorials. They used a number of simple google search terms to make a list of tutorials, and manually audited them for common vulnerabilities. They then crawled GitHub to find projects with very similar code snippets that might have been taken from those tutorials. The Web is replete with tutorial-style content on how to accomplish programming tasks. Unfortunately, even top-ranked tutorials suffer from severe security vulnerabilities, such as cross-site scripting (XSS), and SQL injection (SQLi). Assuming that these tutorials influence real-world software development, we hypothesize that code snippets from popular tutorials can be used to bootstrap vulnerability discovery at scale. To validate our hypothesis, we propose a semi-automated approach to find recurring vulnerabilities starting from a handful of top-ranked tutorials that contain vulnerable code snippets. We evaluate our approach by performing an analysis of tens of thousands of open-source web applications to check if vulnerabilities originating in the selected tutorials recur. Our analysis framework has been running on a standard PC, analyzed 64,415 PHP codebases hosted on GitHub thus far, and found a total of 117 vulnerabilities that have a strong syntactic similarity to vulnerable code snippets present in popular tutorials. In addition to shedding light on the anecdotal belief that programmers reuse web tutorial code in an ad hoc manner, our study finds disconcerting evidence of insufficiently reviewed tutorials compromising the security of open-source projects. Moreover, our findings testify to the feasibility of large-scale vulnerability discovery using poorly written tutorials as a starting point The researchers found 117 vulnerabilities, of these, at least 8 appear to be nearly exact copy/pastes of the tutorials that were found to be vulnerable. *** 1.3.0 Development Preview: New icon themes (https://lumina-desktop.org/1-3-0-development-preview-new-icon-themes/) As version 1.3.0 of the Lumina desktop starts getting closer to release, I want to take a couple weeks and give you all some sneak peaks at some of the changes/updates that we have been working on (and are in the process of finishing up). New icon theme (https://lumina-desktop.org/1-3-0-development-preview-new-icon-themes/) Material Design Light/Dark There are a lot more icons available in the reference icon packs which we still have not gotten around to renaming yet, but this initial version satisfies all the XDG standards for an icon theme + all the extra icons needed for Lumina and it's utilities + a large number of additional icons for application use. This highlights one the big things that I love about Lumina: it gives you an interface that is custom-tailored to YOUR needs/wants – rather than expecting YOU to change your routines to accomodate how some random developer/designer across the world thinks everybody should use a computer. Lumina Media Player (https://lumina-desktop.org/1-3-0-development-preview-lumina-mediaplayer/) This is a small utility designed to provide the ability for the user to play audio and video files on the local system, as well as stream audio from online sources. For now, only the Pandora internet radio service is supported via the “pianobar” CLI utility, which is an optional runtime dependency. However, we hope to gradually add new streaming sources over time. For a long time I had been using another Pandora streaming client on my TrueOS desktop, but it was very fragile with respect to underlying changes: LibreSSL versions for example. The player would regularly stop functioning for a few update cycles until a version of LibreSSL which was “compatible” with the player was used. After enduring this for some time, I was finally frustrated enough to start looking for alternatives. A co-worker pointed me to a command-line utility called “pianobar“, which was also a small client for Pandora radio. After using pianobar for a couple weeks, I was impressed with how stable it was and how little “overhead” it required with regards to extra runtime dependencies. Of course, I started thinking “I could write a Qt5 GUI for that!”. Once I had a few free hours, I started writing what became lumina-mediaplayer. I started with the interface to pianobar itself to see how complicated it would be to interact with, but after a couple days of tinkering in my spare time, I realized I had a full client to Pandora radio basically finished. Who are, or what are, the 'Men in Black' (MIBs)? UFO legend Timothy Green Beckley joins Paul & Ben today to share cases and ponder the issue.
Nick Redfern is back! This is his third visit, and he shares details and insights from his latest book, THE REAL MEN IN BLACK. This is a look into the elusive stories of these denizens of the outer edge of an already strange phenomenon. Nick talks about the reports of MIBs throughout the modern era of the UFO phenomenon, as well as recent tales from people who are presently experiencing high strangeness.
