CW: domestic abuse A couple of months ago, patrons of Our Strange Skies voted on a non-UFO topic that we would cover. Among the choices of "Haunted Objects, "Gef, the Talking Mongoose" and "The Beast of Boggy Creek," the topic that won, with 38% of the vote was The San Pedro Haunting. The San Pedro Haunting, otherwise know as the Jackie Hernandez Poltergeist case, is a uniquely violent case. Jackie, along with other eyewitnesses and investigators were terrorized by a group of alleged ghosts who were out for revenge, including the spirit of a man who had been murdered in San Pedro harbor. A group of videographers, including Barry Conrad and Jeff Wheatcraft, under the guidance of parapsychologist, Dr. Barry Taff, documented the strange phenomenon that occurred in a small bungalow in San Pedro, which included mysterious substances oozing from the walls, strange light anomalies and orbs, large thudding sounds coming from the attic, which played a central role in the haunting, and much more. Richard Hatem stops by to discuss the case, provides his own unique rating system, *sigh*, and the elements that make this such a unique case. 1973 was an unprecedented year for abduction cases. 10 abduction cases were reported that year, 8 of which occurred during a 17 day period from October 11-28. Many of them would become infamous in the UFO community. The abduction of Patty Roach and her children was featured in an episode of In Search Of... alongside the story of Carl Higdon. The model for Brian Scott's repeated abduction experiences would go on to mirror those reported in books by people like Budd Hopkins and John Mack.   The Pascagoula Abduction is the most well known from 1973. The story of Charles Hickson and Calvin Parker are among the most relatable. Two men went fishing on the evening of October 11, 1973 and had an experience that people are still talking about today. Years later, additional eyewitnesses have come forward adding more validity to their story. And of course, there is the infamous tape. What's up, ufonauts?! In Minutes of Our Mythology, Part Two, I look at the government's first examination of the UFO phenomenon: Project Sign. Throughout 1948, people from all walks of life reported UFOs to the government. Some were civilians, some were actual pilots and military personnel. They ran the gamut. By the time Project Sign came to an end, it had seen the death of a pilot pursuing a UFO, reports of all sorts of odd lights in the sky, and an extremely close encounter by two Eastern Airlines pilots who claimed to see an enormous cigar-shaped UFO with windows that shot a 50 foot flame out the end of it.
