August 9th, 2025, marked the 75th anniversary of US President Harry Truman signing the Federal Aid in Sportfish Restoration Act into law. To help listeners better appreciate the impact the act has had on fish conservation activities throughout its 75 year history, Preston sits down with Paul Wilkes from the US Fish and Wildlife Service. They discuss how Paul eventually shifted to the grants and funding realms of fisheries management, and how that ultimately led to his transition to working with the USFWS. They spend the bulk of the episode covering the Sportfish Restoration Act, its history, and a few of the immense benefits that the act provides anglers, managers, and fish populations. We hope that you enjoy this episode! Main point: "Take a breath, remember our history, but always be planning for the future." The actual 5th anniversary of the show flew by without mention which should not come as a surprise, but here we are. This week I'm talking about how I'm all done with the Red Sox, good music and then bad music and about the last 5 years of the show along with the good fortune I've had to talk with some great people. Then it's on to Three Gripes: Capitalism, people who talk on planes and common sense. After five years this show is still mostly awful, but occasionally less so...sadly, today is not one of those occasions! Check it out!
when this program began 5 years ago, America, nah , the world was in the midst of near-universal harmony, health and prosperity. It would be the height of exaggeration to say the global events that followed were in any way influenced or informed by the launch of this radio program, but really, it's ok with me if only 3 or 4 of you are willing to say it out loud. It's been my privilege to bring you two hours of music (that feel like 3 or 4) every week and while contemplating the next 5 years fills me and probably anyone else with a functioning frontal lobe with a sense of inescapable dread, to quote one of our more beloved philosophers, "the longer the note, the more dread". So the answer is shorter notes (maybe I'll try that next week, lotta long ones this time).

In the last of our interviews about the recent Supreme Court ruling on the definition of a woman under the Equality Act, Nuala McGovern speaks to Baroness Kishwer Falkner, Chair of the Equality and Human Rights Commission. As the body responsible for enforcing the Act, the EHRC gave evidence in the Supreme Court case. In the first BBC interview since launching a consultation on updating their Code of Practice in light of the judgment, Baroness Falkner explains who they want to hear from and why.Five years after the murder of George Floyd, a black man, by a white police officer in Minneapolis, a new BBC documentary is reflecting on the wave of Black Lives Matter protests that followed, including in the UK. Backlash: The Murder of George Floyd tells the story through the eyes of some of those who found themselves on the frontline during the spring and summer of 2020, including Khady Gueye, who made headlines after a local protest she planned in the Forest of Dean was initially cancelled. She joins Nuala, along with author, producer and speaker Nova Reid, to reflect on the impact the events of that time have had on their lives, and what has changed since then. Nuala is also joined by Sarah Pochin, the first female MP for the Reform UK Party. The Runcorn and Helsby by-election was won by just six votes - the closest result in modern history. A former Conservative Councillor and mayor for Cheshire East, Sarah was a magistrate for 20 years. During her maiden speech she focussed on immigration, the cost of living and sexual violence against women.Presenter: Nuala McGovern Producer: Andrea Kidd

Friends of the Rosary,Today, Easter Sunday of the Resurrection of the Lord, we celebrate that Christ, who remained two days in the tomb, is risen from the dead, unleashing on the third day God's forgiving and hopeful love in all its power."Why do you seek the living among the dead? He is not here, but has risen." The words heard by the women at the tomb — Mary Magdalene, Joanna, and Mary the mother of James — are addressed to us today, too.It means that death, sin, fear, and solitude are not the last words. The Resurrection transcends our sinful human nature. Jesus is truly risen. And our hope has the name of the Risen Lord. He restores us to life.Today, too, He walks in our midst, changes us, and sets us free from sin. The Evil One has no power over us.Christ shines and His eternal light overcomes the darkness of the world.Happy Easter!Ave Maria!Jesus, I Trust In You!Come, Holy Spirit, come!To Jesus through Mary! Here I am, Lord; I come to do your will. Friends of the Rosary,Holy Saturday (from Sabbatum Sanctum, its official liturgical name) is the day of the Lord's rest; it has been called the “Second Sabbath” since the creation of the world. It's a day of great silence on earth, instituted to enter reflectively into the divine rest. After the great battle against sin and death, Christ Jesus is resting in peace. Upon Him we see the scars of intense suffering, with mortal wounds on His Body that remain visible.Jesus' enemies are still furious, attempting to obliterate the memory of the Lord by lies and slander. In the silence of the day, Christ Jesus didn't choose divine vengeance but the ultimate demonstration of divine love.On Holy Saturday, while we meditate on the Passion and crucifixion of Christ, we wait with Our Lady of Sorrows — the Church is represented in Mary — at the Lord's Christ tomb on His descent into the land of the dead.As the Catechism of the Catholic Church makes clear, “he descended there as Savior, proclaiming the good news to the spirits imprisoned there.”In the evening, as the sun sets, the Church gathers for Easter Vigil. The Church awaits the return in glory in its full splendor of our God and Savior, Jesus Christ. After the readings of the crucial moments in creation and salvation history, the Church anticipates the proclamation of the Lord's Resurrection by singing the Gloria, bells are rung, and the church is fully illuminated, anticipating Easter celebration.Dying with Christ is no recapitulation. As Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life, as St. Paul wrote.Ave Maria!Jesus, I Trust In You!Come, Holy Spirit, come!To Jesus through Mary! Here I am, Lord; I come to do your will. Friends of the Rosary,Today, Friday of the Passion of the Lord, Holy Friday, or Good Friday (a deviation of the term “God's Friday), the Church observes the earthly death of our Savior. It's a solemn day of mourning, prayer, fasting, and a sense of sadness as we acknowledge our failure to serve our Lord.We slow down, restrict ourselves from entertainment, participate in processions and devotions (such as the Rosary, Stations of the Cross, and the Divine Mercy), and meditate on readings and prayers related to the passion of Christ. At three o'clock, the faithful attend the “Celebration of the Lord's Passion.” It's not a Mass but a service with three parts: Liturgy of the Word, Veneration of the Cross, and Holy Communion. At the beginning, the priests and deacons prostrate themselves in silent prayer. The General Intentions cover ten areas:For the ChurchFor the PopeFor the clergy and laity of the ChurchFor those preparing for baptismFor the unity of ChristiansFor the Jewish peopleFor those who do not believe in ChristFor those who do not believe in GodFor all in public officeFor those in special needIn part two, we venerate and kiss the wooden cross “on which hung the Savior of the world.” In part three, the congregation receives Holy Communion, and everyone departs in silence. The liturgies of the Paschal Triduum are one continuous act of worship. Yesterday, we saw Christ Jesus at the Last Supper completing the washing of the feet in all humility and instituting the Holy Eucharist and the Holy Orders. Today, at the midpoint of the Triduum of the Passion, Death, and Resurrection of the Lord, our pilgrimage comes to Calvary. Tomorrow, the Easter Vigil of Easter will begin with the Service of Light. The first reading at today's commemoration of the Passion is the fourth of Isaiah's songs of the Suffering Servant. Then we hear St. John's narrative of Christ's Passion. To protect and heal us from darkness, Christ Jesus allowed the fury of sin to destroy Him. He endured the pain of the cross bearing our sins. The Suffering Servant pleased the Father not by his agony but by being obedient to the point of death on the cross, offering his body in sacrifice to take away the sin of the world.St. Anselm said that the death of the Son reestablished the right relationship between divinity and humanity. In Jesus, with his arms outstretched on the cross, we find the redemption of our suffering. He is the source of our eternal salvation.Ave Maria!Jesus, I Trust In You!Come, Holy Spirit, come!To Jesus through Mary! Here I am, Lord; I come to do your will. Friends of the Rosary,Today, Holy Thursday, the first day of the Paschal Triduum of the Passion, Death, and Resurrection of the Lord, we listen to the words spoken by Christ Jesus to His apostles at the Last Supper, after He had completed the washing of the feet in all humility. As reflected in the Gospel, we meditate on Christ's actions that day. They included:1 - The eating of the Easter lamb or the paschal meal;2 - The washing of the disciples' feet;3 - The institution of the Most Holy Eucharist and the Holy Orders. It was the first Mass at which Jesus Christ, the eternal high priest, was the celebrant, with the first Communion of the apostles.4 - The foretelling of Judas' betrayal and Peter's denials;5 - The farewell discourse and priestly prayer of Jesus;6 - The agony and capture of Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane. On Holy Thursday, there are two Masses:1 — The Chrism Mass or Mass of the Holy Oils is usually said in the morning at the diocese's cathedral. The local Bishop consecrates the holy oils to be used during the next year and celebrates the institution of the priesthood. Catholics experience the communion of priests with their bishop in this Mass and give thanks for the Church's priests and for Jesus Christ, the eternal High Priest who "became the source of eternal salvation to all who obey him" [Hebrews 5.9]2 — The evening Mass of the Lord's Supper. The whole community and the priests of the parish participate. We recall the institution of the Holy Eucharist and the priesthood and celebrate the Washing of the Feet.In the readings, we recall the Agony in the Garden, and the arrest and imprisonment of Jesus. After the Communion Prayer, the Holy Eucharist is carried through the Church and placed into the tabernacle at the Altar of Repose. We remain in quiet prayer and adoration, keeping Christ company. The Blessed Sacrament is conserved in a closed tabernacle. There is a tradition to try and visit seven churches for silent adoration, to answer Christ's invitation "Could you not, then, watch one hour with me?" (Matt 26:40)Ave Maria!Jesus, I Trust In You!Come, Holy Spirit, come!To Jesus through Mary! Here I am, Lord; I come to do your will. Friends of the Rosary,Today ends the official Lenten period. Tomorrow, we enter the Holy Triduum, the three great liturgical days: Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and Easter Sunday.Wednesday of Holy Week, traditionally known as Spy Wednesday, reminds us of Judas's treachery, who bargained with the high priest to betray Jesus for thirty silver pieces (Matt 26:14-16; Mark 14:10-11; Luke 22:1-6).Today's Gospel presents Matthew's description of Judas's secret arrangement to betray the Master and the Lord's Last Supper statement on the betrayer. This Gospel prepares us for the dramatic developments of the Thursday of Holy Week. The reading from the Prophet Isaiah is the third portrayal of the messianic Suffering Servant.Ave Maria!Jesus, I Trust In You!Come, Holy Spirit, come!To Jesus through Mary! Here I am, Lord; I come to do your will. Friends of the Rosary,In today's Gospel reading (John 13:21-33, 36-38), we see Christ, the Suffering Servant of the Lord, in the Last Supper with Judas Iscariot present, when Satan entered the betrayer.Jesus, deeply troubled, announces that one of the Twelve will betray Him and that even Peter will repeatedly disown Him. (“I say to you, the cock will not crowbefore you deny me three times.”)When Judas had left, Jesus said,“Now is the Son of Man glorified, and God is glorified in him.If God is glorified in him, God will also glorify him in himself, and he will glorify him at once.”This passage shows the striking contrast between Judas' rejection of the light of the world and Peter's repentance, which brings forgiveness. As with the prodigal son, his filial dignity is restored, and the outpouring of the Divine Mercy turns him into the rock on which the Church of the Risen One is built.Ave Maria!Jesus, I Trust In You!Come, Holy Spirit, come!To Jesus through Mary! Here I am, Lord; I come to do your will. Friends of the Rosary,This Holy Week, we must admit our sins and reconcile with God. Sin blinds the soul and impedes love and generosity. We must die in our sinfulness to rise with Him, the sinless one, our light and our way.Our salvation depends on following Him and His forgiving love.Yesterday's liturgy, with the procession of the Palms, was beyond symbolism, beyond a mere memory; for we were accompanying Christ here and now.We are the community gathered together in His name, and Christ, according to His promise, is in the midst of us. Our Church stands for the earthly Jerusalem and Christ Our King stands for the New Jerusalem of heaven.Ave Maria!Jesus, I Trust In You!Come, Holy Spirit, come!To Jesus through Mary! Here I am, Lord; I come to do your will. Friends of the Rosary,Today is Palm Sunday, the feast of the Lord's Passion, the beginning of the solemnity of Holy Week. It commemorates Christ's entry into Jerusalem to complete the Paschal Mystery. We enter the holiest part of Lent, with the Passion and the Resurrection, with the Cross as the way to Easter victory, with the sacred passion of Christ as a prerequisite to Easter's glory.During the liturgy of the Mass of Palm Sunday, the priests and deacons wearing red vestments do a special entrance that includes the blessing of the palms remembering how Jesus entered in triumph into his own city, to complete his work as our Messiah: to suffer, to die, and to rise again (Matt 21:1-11; Mark 11:1-10; John 12:12-16; Luke 19:28-40).The palms are blessed with the following prayer:Almighty God, we pray that you bless these branches and make them holy. Today, we joyfully acclaim Jesus our Messiah and King. May we one day reach the happiness of the new and everlasting Jerusalem by faithfully following him who lives and reigns forever and ever. Amen.As the faithful, we remember and dramatize Christ's triumphal entrance into Jerusalem on a donkey. At that time, a vast crowd assembled, put their cloaks or branches on the ground, and waved palm branches, acclaiming Christ as the King of Israel, the Son of David.Today, we wave our palm branches and sing as the priest enters the church:Hosanna to the Son of David, the King of Israel.Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.Hosanna in the highest. Our joy is quickly subdued as we read the Passion in the Gospel.Jesus' experience of being loved and hated, of being welcomed and then rejected, gives us the strength to endure the injustices and hardships of our lives.Ave Maria!Jesus, I Trust In You!Come, Holy Spirit, come!To Jesus through Mary! Here I am, Lord; I come to do your will. Friends of the Rosary,Today, on the eve of Palm Sunday, before the Holy Week begins, we continue praying from Las Vegas as good warriors of the Lord.As happened in Jesus's biblical times, and as we read this week in the Gospel, for unbelievers and evildoers, nothing proves the goodness of the Lord.Trapped in their sin, blocked by their ignorance and arrogance, they will always reject the mystery of Salvation, which consists in knowing the Son of God.Christ Jesus says in Thursday's reading,“The Father is in me and I am in the Father.”Jesus revealed his divine nature through his works.Yet even such miracles and marvels are not enough for the unbelieving world, as they reject “the words of everlasting life.”In the passage, we see the Jews picking up rocks to stone Jesus. Jesus answered them,“I have shown you many good works from my Father. For which of these are you trying to stone me?” “Even if you do not believe me, believe the works, so that you may realize and understand that the Father is in me and I am in the Father.”Ave Maria!Jesus, I Trust In You!Come, Holy Spirit, come!To Jesus through Mary! Here I am, Lord; I come to do your will. Friends of the Rosary,Today, before the Holy Week begins, the Catholic Church in various countries, following the Roman Rite, observes the devotion of Friday of Sorrows, or ‘Passion Friday', Viernes de Dolores in Spanish.Spanish-speaking countries, and particularly the Philippines, hold processions on this day to honor the Seven Sorrows of Mary.Currently, the feast of Our Lady of Sorrows is paired with the feast of the Exaltation of the Cross in September. The general liturgical calendar lists September 15 as the feast of Our Lady of Sorrows. We reflect upon the Seven Sorrows of the Blessed Virgin Mary in contemplating the Passion of Christ. We journey with Mary as she remains with her Son amid agonies and pains. We also pray for those who are going through their own sorrows and trials. These are the Seven Sorrows of Mary:The Prophecy of Simeon (Luke 2:34-35)The Flight into Egypt (Matthew 2:13)The Loss of the Child Jesus in the Temple of Jerusalem (Luke 2:43-45)The Meeting of Mary and Jesus on his Way to Calvary (traditional)Standing at the Foot of the Cross (John 19:25)Jesus Being Taken Down from the Cross (Matthew 27:57-59)The Burial of Jesus (John 19:40-42)We pray today's Rosary from Las Vegas.Ave Maria!Jesus, I Trust In You!Come, Holy Spirit, come!To Jesus through Mary! Here I am, Lord; I come to do your will. Friends of the Rosary,Keeping the word of Jesus leads us to life and sets us free. The Gospel readings towards the end of Lent show, one scene after the other, the mounting hatred towards Our Lord while He was teaching about the Kingdom. To the Jews, the Lord said at that time, as we read today in the Gospel of John,“Whoever keeps my word will never taste death.”However, far from acknowledging the Word Incarnate, the Jews insulted Our Lord and threw stones at him. Then Jesus said to them, “Amen, amen, I say to you, before Abraham came to be, I AM.”Friends, note how Jesus refers to himself as “I AM,” the name God revealed to Moses, during the episode from Exodus.Ave Maria!Jesus, I Trust In You!Come, Holy Spirit, come!To Jesus through Mary! Here I am, Lord; I come to do your will. Friends of the Rosary,As we read today in the Gospel (John 8:21-30), the division between Jesus and His enemies becomes more critical, sharper.During His mortal life, Jesus's Divinity was hidden under the veil of His Humanity. Even for those who lived with Him, His Divinity was an object of faith. They witnessed works that, as they acknowledged, God alone could do. But they saw, too, that Christ was man.Jesus said to the Pharisees,"You belong to what is below,I belong to what is above. You belong to this world, but I do not belong to this world. That is why I told you that you will die in your sins. For if you do not believe that I AM,you will die in your sins."Faith in the Divinity of Christ Jesus constitutes the first step towards the divine life for us and the Jews of His time.Ave Maria!Jesus, I Trust In You!Come, Holy Spirit, come!To Jesus through Mary! Here I am, Lord; I come to do your will. Friends of the Rosary,As we read today in the Gospel (John 8:12-20), Jesus spoke to the Pharisees, saying,“I am the light of the world.Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”This week, the Gospel of John continues to give us insight into Jesus' suffering soul.Christ's total self-surrender on our behalf, consummated on the Cross, will culminate on Holy Friday. His sacrifice is an urgent call to us to respond to his great love for all men and every one of us.Faced with this unfathomable mystery of Love, I should ask myself, what do I do for him? How do I respond to his love?“For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whosoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life.”March 21, 2025, marked the fifth year since we started praying the Holy Rosary of Mary daily within this community. Friends of the Rosary,On this fifth Sunday of Lent, the final Sunday before Holy Week and sometimes referred to as “Passion Sunday,” we reflect on the mystery of forgiveness.Lord Jesus shows his merciful love and offers us his forgiveness, as He did with the woman caught in adultery.Like us, the woman was given a new life with Christ, who said, "Go, and from now on do not sin any more."Jesus, who is the Holy One, does not condemn the woman, whereas people who are sinners pass sentence of death.God's infinite mercy should always move us to have compassion on those who commit sins because we are sinners and need God's forgiveness.Today, in Mass, we will see crosses and images covered. This practice will take place until the beginning of the Easter Vigil.March 21, 2025, marked the fifth year since we started praying the Holy Rosary of Mary daily within this community. Friends of the Rosary,In today's Gospel (John 7:40-53), we read how the guards listened to Jesus' words and, moved, refrained from bringing Jesus to the chief priests and the Pharisees.Nicodemus, one of their members who had come to Christ Jesus earlier, said to them:“Does our law condemn a man before it first hears him and finds out what he is doing?”At that time — as it does today — Jesus' preaching caused division. Some hearers believed him, but others wanted to arrest him.Christ's preaching seeks to restore us since all is not fine with us. We are not OK. Our culture today has an allergy to admitting personal fault — to admitting sin!We have lost sight of sin, and therefore we don't see the need for salvation in Christianity. Our holy religion has become a catalogue of moral teachings when it is a way of salvation through Christ.Ave Maria!Jesus, I Trust In You!Come, Holy Spirit, come!To Jesus through Mary! Here I am, Lord; I come to do your will. Friends of the Rosary,At the Rosary Network community, we continue praying without ceasing. That's the way to build the Kingdom and change the world. On this first Friday of the month, in the fourth week of Lent, we see the Jews trying to arrest Our Lord, condemning Him to a shameful death. It's the blindness of the wicked. It also reminds us of the Cross of Christ, showing that our glory is not to be found in temporal rewards. In the Holy One and our Saints, including the Queen of Saints, we found consolation — and often miracles.Linda Hawkins, a beloved member of our prayer group, sent us this testimonial this week:“I'm now cured of my vertigo after only three therapy appointments; even therapists are amazed, as I had it really bad. Some time ago, I asked you and, of course, Maria Blanca to pray for my healing, according to God's will. I have continued to pray with you and Maria Blanca, and I know that, in the depth of my heart and soul, she definitely interceded for me. This is not anything that would be considered a miracle, but to me, it is! Friends of the Rosary,“You do not want to come to me to have life,” said Christ Jesus at that time to the Jews (John 5:31–47)We sadly prefer human testimony, as our pride confuses us. We are incapable of seeing the humility of the logos.“I came in the name of my Father, but you do not accept me; yet if another comes in his own name, you will accept him. How can you believe, when you accept praise from one another and do not seek the praise that comes from the only God?”Pride is a dangerous sin as it moves us to replace our infinite, all-merciful God, for whom we are made.It brings our destruction as we refuse to come to the Holy One to have lifeRemember us, O Lord, come to save your chosen people.Ave Maria!Jesus, I Trust In You!Come, Holy Spirit, come!To Jesus through Mary! Here I am, Lord; I come to do your will. Friends of the Rosary,Christ Jesus explained at that time to the Jews that the Son does all in conjunction with the Father, as He is equal to God.“For the Father loves the Son and shows him everything that he himself does, and he will show him greater works than these, so that you may be amazed. For just as the Father raises the dead and gives life, so also does the Son give life to whomever he wishes.Nor does the Father judge anyone, but he has given all judgment to the Son, so that all may honor the Son just as they honor the Father. Whoever does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent him.Amen, amen, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes in the one who sent me has eternal life and will not come to condemnation, but has passed from death to life.Christ also explained the mystery of Holy Saturday, “when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will live.”“The hour is coming in which all who are in the tombs will hear his voice and will come out, those who have done good deeds to the resurrection of life, but those who have done wicked deeds to the resurrection of condemnation.”“I cannot do anything on my own; I judge as I hear, and my judgment is just, because I do not seek my own will but the will of the one who sent me.”Ave Maria!Jesus, I Trust In You!Come, Holy Spirit, come!To Jesus through Mary! Here I am, Lord; I come to do your will. Friends of the Rosary,"Do you want to be well?" Christ Jesus asked this question to the sick who had been ill for thirty-eight years at the gate of the pool in Jerusalem, as we are reading today in the Gospel of John 5:1-16.It's the same question that Our Lord is asking each of us.Like the sick man, we might feel trapped in our sinful condition, believing that our disease is inevitable. But the Son of God brings healing to everyone."Rise, take up your mat, and walk."His grace is our salvation. Friends of the Rosary,As a continuation of yesterday's Laetare Sunday joyful spirit, today we read in the Gospel (John 4:43-54) how Jesus cured the son of a royal official in Capernaum."Unless you people see signs and wonders, you will not believe."Tomorrow, and during the next two weeks, the Gospel's main readings will be from St. John.Day after day, we will read about the growing hostility against Jesus and their persecution that climaxed in the crucifixion of Holy Friday.Through his Passion, Death, and Resurrection, Christ reconciled us with God and one another. God's great love for us has been revealed in Jesus. He came to divinize us, to start a new creation with us, and reconcile us to God — and not just to teach a moral code, as other religions do: As St. Paul explained it yesterday (2 Corinthians 5:17-21):"Whoever is in Christ is a new creation:the old things have passed away;behold, new things have come. And all this is from God,who has reconciled us to himself through Christand given us the ministry of reconciliation, namely, God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting their trespasses against themand entrusting to us the message of reconciliation. So we are ambassadors for Christ."Ave Maria!Jesus, I Trust In You!Come, Holy Spirit, come!To Jesus through Mary! Here I am, Lord; I come to do your will. Friends of the Rosary,Today, the Fourth Sunday of Lent, is Laetare Sunday, an anticipation of the joy of Easter. Traditionally, this Sunday has been a celebration within the austere period of Lent of penance and sorrow. On the third Sunday of Advent, we had Gaudete Sunday, feeling the thrill and joy of Christmas. In Lent, we have a Sunday called Laetare (rejoice), foretasting the divine grace we will receive at Easter. The priest wears rose-colored vestments during Mass.Today's Gospel is from St. Luke 15:1-3, 11-32. This reading recounts the parable of the Prodigal Son, one of Jesus' most beautiful parables. It teaches us once more that God a kind, understanding, and all-merciful Father. The son who asks for his part of the inheritance symbolizes the person who cuts himself off from God through sin. This merciful love reaches down to every prodigal son, to every human form of the moral misery of sin.The father expresses to us, lost children, His joy that we have been 'found again' and we have 'returned to life'.Ave Maria!Jesus, I Trust In You!Come, Holy Spirit, come!To Jesus through Mary! Here I am, Lord; I come to do your will. Friends of the Rosary,Says the Lord, "Everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and the one who humbles himself will be exalted."In today's Gospel (Luke 18:9-14), Jesus tells us of the Pharisee and the tax collector—righteous and unrighteous—who enter the temple to pray. The teaching is clear: Those who are proud of themselves, convinced of their righteousness, and despise everyone else are not on the path of the Kingdom.Meanwhile, repentant sinners, those who are moved by God's grace and love, pray, "O God, be merciful to me, a sinner."By exhibiting the merciful love, the humble possess the “true knowledge of God,” and for this, they "will be exalted."Ave Maria!Jesus, I Trust In You!Come, Holy Spirit, come!To Jesus through Mary! Here I am, Lord; I come to do your will. Friends of the Rosary,In loving God, we love everything God sustains, including all humans. In today's Gospel, Jesus explains the first two commandments for accessing the Kingdom of Heaven. The whole law depends on these two commandments: loving God with everything you have and loving your neighbor as yourself. He said, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind."You shall love your neighbor as yourself. There is no other commandment greater than these."In other words, human existence is about loving God first and then loving everything else for the sake of God.March 21, 2025, marked the fifth year since we started praying the Holy Rosary of Mary daily within this community. Friends of the Rosary,Today, the mid-point of Lent, we continue spiritually strengthening ourselves, following the invitation to be faithful to God and never fall away.In today's Gospel (Luke 11:14-23), we see Jesus driving out the demon of a possessed person. But then, our Lord is immediately accused of being in league with Satan. The Prince of Darkness is always one of scattering, pushing the tendency to divide. But Christ Jesus is the voice of communio, the Holy One bringing things back together. From the beginning of His ministry, Jesus was fighting against Satan; at the time of His passion, He entered the final combat until victory. The struggle against Satan goes on in our lives as baptized members of the Church. However, we gaze on the light of our Saviour, and strong in His grace, we begin in new ways, far from the darkness of sin.March 21, 2025, marked the fifth year since we started praying the Holy Rosary of Mary daily within this community. Friends of the Rosary,Today, amid the Lent's austerity, we celebrate the Solemnity of the Annunciation of the Lord, the most sublime moment in the history of time, when the Second Person of the Holy Trinity assumed human nature in the womb of the Virgin Mary.At midnight, when the most holy Virgin was alone and absorbed in prayer, the Archangel Gabriel appeared before her and asked her to consent to become the Mother of God in the name of the blessed Trinity.Saint Irenaeus, a holy bishop and martyr of the second century, showed us that Nazareth was the counterpart of Eden. The angel of darkness, the serpent, tricked Eve, who longed for the forbidden fruit and was impatient to enjoy independence. She ate the fruit, and death took possession of her: death of the soul, for sin extinguishes the light of life; and death of the body, which, being separated from the source of immortality, became an object of shame and horror and finally crumbled into dust.Meanwhile, the spirit of light in Nazareth respectfully bowed before her, speaking heavenly language: “Hail, full of grace! The Lord is with thee! Blessed art thou among women!”Mary heard the angel's explanation of the mystery, and the will of heaven was made known to her. She, the humble maid of Nazareth, experienced the ineffable happiness of becoming the Mother of God. Mary told the divine messenger, “Behold the handmaid of the Lord: be it done to me according to thy word.”The obedience of the second Eve repaired the disobedience of the first. The eternal Son of God became present in the chaste womb of Mary, and He began His human life. A Virgin is the Mother of God, and, consenting to the divine will, conceived by the power of the Holy Ghost. The Mother of God, the Immaculate Conception, would become the Queen of all creation. This is Solemnity Day, “Lady Day” or Annunciation, when our Lenten penance obligations are lifted. We should celebrate with some special food or dinner. This feast day forecasts the event of Christmas. The Roman Martyrology commemorates St. Dismas, the Good Thief, and St. Margaret Clitherow (1556-1586), wife and mother, one of the English martyrs.March 21, 2025, marked the fifth year since we started praying the Holy Rosary of Mary daily within this community. Friends of the Rosary,While we were still sinners, God proved his love for us through Christ dying for us on a death in the cross. In yesterday's Gospel, Jesus told the parable of the fig tree, signifying that the Lord expects us to bear spiritual fruit. After all, this is the consequence of the Spirit's presence in us. The Spirit is this stream; when planted near it, we blossom. And what are these fruits of the Holy Spirit? In the fifth chapter of Galatians, Paul enumerates them: “love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.”God—“I am who am”—is calling us from the flaming bush that doesn't consume, as He spoke to Moses—and we also learned yesterday in the first reading (Exodus 3:1-8a, 13-15).March 21, 2025, marked the fifth year since we started praying the Holy Rosary of Mary daily within this community.
