This week, we'll have the privilege of being “flies on the wall” while Mike Kim coaches a group of online marketers. You'll glean some nuggets from this session that will positively impact your business. Your mission, “Jim”, should you choose to accept it, is to implement what you'll learn. The “Secretary” will not disavow any knowledge of your actions (and this message will not self-destruct in five seconds). Good luck, “Jim”. Among other things, you'll learn: What it means to “train to standard” and “save your partner's life”. Why it's important to have a goal of making $1 per email subscriber in monthly recurring revenue. Why you must not despise the “day of small beginnings”. What does FLOATS mean, and why is it vital to your business success? How you can effectively systemize your marketing. Why it's vital to play the guide, and not the hero, in your marketing. Why it's probably not a good idea to focus on who unsubscribes from your list.  Regardless of where you are in your online marketing journey, you'll definitely benefit by listening in on Mike's coaching. It'll be well worth it. Brand You Funnels Info Session: I created an all-in-one online marketing and customer management platform for people who are ready to get real business systems in place. CW: Sexual abuse When it comes to the alien abduction phenomenon, no two figures have played a greater roll in its shaping than Budd Hopkins and David Jacobs. And shaping, I think, is the perfect word, because, as we've covered on this series, before this point, abductions were very different animals. It was through Hopkins that it became an intergenerational phenomenon, that its captors all looked the same with slight variations, and that those captors were lying, deceiving assholes with an agenda that could be gleaned through hypnosis. Alien-human hybrids dominated the field because of Budd Hopkins. In short, the phenomenon that you know as alien abductions is the product of Budd Hopkins' research, and the proliferation of that research from other figures, like David Jacobs. In an interview with Ed Conroy, for his book Report on Communion, Whitley Strieber had this to say about Hopkins and Jacobs: "'He and Jacobs are censoring the experiences of people with visitor experiences in order to fit them into a theory they have about extraterrestrials,' Strieber told me in a December 1988 interview. 'If some of the experiences in people's lives don't fit with their theories, they just exclude them. In my books, I have maintained an account of the experiences which is very close to how strange and bizarre they really are. That is why my books have gotten such a tremendous response, while Intruders was a failure.'" On this episode I dive into the work of these two figures, and expose the flaws and abuses that is contained within. Eight years before Whitley Strieber's Communion was published, The Andreasson Affair hit the shelves and challenged the notion of what abductions could be. Part alien abduction story and part contactee story, Betty's contact occurred during a tumultuous period in her life. It proved to be a frightening, and reassuring experience, one that proved to reinforce Betty's own religious beliefs. Stephanie Quick stops by to discuss the case, how social status plays a part in the UFO and alien abduction stories we know by heart, the out of body nature of the Andreasson Affair, and esotericism vs. its practice. CW: Self-harm, Childhood Sexual Assault, and CSA Material We're taking a break this week from the abduction series to introduce a new series, UFO Grifters, featuring the worst of the worst in the UFO community. We're starting with a big one: Stan Romanek. Romanek came to prominence in the 00s as an experiencer who had one of the best documented cases in the history of ufology. The story quickly evolved into one of the strangest and most convoluted contact stories on record, that ultimately led to his arrest in 2014 for the possession of CSAM. Brian Hastie from Double Density joins me to pick apart this shitty story and expose it for what it really is. Abductions in the 1970s are characterized by cases that gained a level of popularity on their individual merits. The Pascagoula Abduction for instance was a media sensation that occurred during a very prominent UFO/humanoid flap. It's also the first year that a handful of abduction cases were reported. Interestingly, they all occurred within 10 days of each other. In 1974, The Carl Higdon abduction captured the attention of national headlines, and one year later, the Travis Walton case captured widespread press attention, primarily because it was a missing person's/murder case before it became an alien abduction. In 1975, 25 abduction cases were reported, setting a new record for the most reported in a year. Aside from the publicity of the Walton case, it's believed that the premiere of The UFO Incident, starring James Earl Jones and Estelle Parsons, depicting the abduction of Betty Barney brought forth many experiencers, including Patty Roach, who experienced an abduction with her family in 1973. The abduction experiences of Brian Scott became known due to the film's release as well. Other abduction cases would come to the forefront in the 70s, such as the cases of Lee Parish, and the Stanford Three. All of these cases that I have mentioned we have covered on the podcast before, so it only makes sense to bring the most obscure cases to the table. Researcher Cole Herrold (New World Explorers Society) joins me discuss some of the strangest cases you've never heard before. That's right, the former POTUS and 2024 candidate is actually calling for the suspension (temporarily, I'm sure) of the US Constitution's election rules.  It goes without saying, but I'll say it anyway: This is a terrible idea that should not be supported by anyone who claims to love America, including and especially a former president. Musk floats possible Twitter bankruptcy; Crypto uncertainty after FTX implosion -- Tech Law & Policy This Week

Hey everybody, I'm Joe Miller and here's what's going on in the world of tech law & policy this week. Regulators concerned about Twitter implosion   The Federal Trade Commission has expressed “deep concern” over Twitter's implosion since Elon Musk took over the company last month. More key executives departed the company this week, leaving it with little to no institutional knowledge on staff that knows how Twitter's underlying technology works. Among the resignations was Yoel Roth, Twitter's Head of Moderation & Safety, who many have seen as something of a voice of reason for the company since Musk took over. Mr. Roth had appeared the day before his resignation at a Twitter Spaces event during which he and Mr. Musk attempted to allay advertisers' fears that their brands would appear next to harmful content like hate speech. Lea Kissner, Twitter's Chief Information Security Officer, has also left the company, as well as its Chief Compliance and Chief Privacy Officers.    But Twitter is subject to two consent decrees of over $150 million imposed by the FTC in  2011 and 2022 for repeated privacy violations. By some estimates, the FTC could fine Twitter to the tune of billions of dollars if it fails to comply with the consent decrees.   Crypto shaken by FTX implosion   Crypto exchange FTX also imploded last week following massive sell-offs by its customers after its 30-year-old CEO Sam Bankman-Fried announced the company used some $10 billion customers' holdings to fund Almeda, FTX's sister company also founded by Mr. Bankman-Fried. FTX competitor Binance initially tried to step in and takeover FTX but then concluded after reviewing FTX's financials that it wouldn't be able to rescue FTX, which may now declare bankruptcy. Both the Securities and Exchange Commission and Federal Trade Commission are investigating as FTX is unable to honor customer withdrawals, which aren't secured by the federal government. Crypto has billed itself as an alternative to regulated currency.   US and EU regulators skeptical about Microsoft's Activision/Blizzard acquisition   The European Commission announced its preliminary review of Microsoft's $69 billion bid to acquire Activision/Blizzard – the competing video game owner of the Call of Duty video game franchise. The US Federal Trade Commission has also expressed significant concerns after a staff-level review. Regulators are especially concerned about what the acquisition would mean for Playstation's ability to carry Call of Duty.  To go deeper, you can find links to all of these stories in the show notes. Stay safe, stay informed, have a great week. Ciao.

This episode marks the beginning of a L O N G series about the history of the alien abduction phenomenon. Our premise, in part, can be summarized by Thomas Bullard, “UFO abductions in the strict sense of the term usually include a visible UFO and require involuntary capture or coercion to get witnesses on board. Once they are inside the crew examines them and turns them out after about two hours, and during that time the witnesses usually suffer some impairment of memory, consciousness or ability to act. Failure to remember the encounter often persists long after the abduction is over. The earliest case of this general description occurred as early as 1929 (see Table I-1) and a few others date prior to 1947, but abductions begin to roll only in 1949. A low incidence persists until 1967, but the high rate of that year did not survive the decline in UFO activity or interest current around 1970. The number leaps to new highs during the flap year of 1973 and this time the level holds, with 1979 topping the chart with two dozen cases. A drop-off in the 1980s may follow the general decline in UFO activity during this decade, but delays in reporting, investigation and publication may be responsible. Time will tell whether the poor turnout applies to actual abductions or abduction reports. “At this point a word of caution is necessary: Many witnesses claim abductions back into the 1940s and 1950s, but a glance at the upper half of Table I-1 shows that no one reported an abduction before 1957. Abductions as a matter of record are 20 years old at best (for the listener, this volume was published in 1987), and most only half that age with 1980 being the peak year with 42 reports.” With Rich Hatem along for the ride we dive into the earliest modern abduction case in print, the accounts that The Interrupted Journey brought out, the stories of Flora Evans and Gerry Irwin, and strange cases of spontaneous teleportation.
