What could you achieve if you let go of all excuses and limiting beliefs? In this deeply motivational episode, Nicole Jansen welcomes Lawrence “Stoney” Stone—a remarkable martial arts grandmaster, published author, stunt coordinator, rock band singer, and cancer survivor whose life story is anything but ordinary. Born with congenital hip problem, later with CMT (Charcot-Marie-Tooth Neuropathy) a degenerative nerve disease, Stoney has faced significant physical challenges since birth, yet has refused to let them define or limit him. From building future champions in his dojo to serving as an executive protection consultant, Stoney's impact ripples across countless lives and disciplines. Join us as Stoney opens up about the powerful lessons learned from his “spanking grandma,” and his real-life journey of overcoming adversity with purpose, faith, and fierce love. He shares how mentorship, tough love, a sense of responsibility, and unwavering honesty have fueled his legacy—prompting us all to step up, stop making excuses, and love with conviction. Whether you're searching for inspiration, seeking actionable leadership insights, or grappling with challenges of your own, this conversation will leave you empowered and ready to tackle whatever comes next. What We Discuss in This Episode How did Stoney overcome significant physical limitations to become a martial arts grandmaster and mentor to champions? What role did family and “tough love” play in shaping his unstoppable mindset? How do you guide others—especially young people—out of victimhood and toward responsibility and growth? What does it mean to “not own” your challenges or diagnoses? How can leaders and mentors balance empathy with calling others to greatness? Why is authenticity and emotional expression crucial for true leadership? What does it look like to surrender to purpose and let go of micromanaging your life's plan? How do faith and spirituality underpin resilience and transformation? What lasting advice does Stoney offer for living a meaningful, impactful life? 10 Key Takeaways Lead by Example: Young people and mentees learn most from who you are and what you do—not just what you say or teach. Tough Love Builds Resilience: Support combined with high expectations (“spanking grandma”) pushes us to unprecedented growth. Refuse to “Own” Limitations: Don't take on negative identities around illness or labels—claim victory and move forward. Surround Yourself with Greatness: Your environment and your circle shape your possibilities and determination. Your Challenges Are Your Strength: Facing adversity builds the grit and wisdom necessary to help others. Balance Compassion and Accountability: True mentors love fiercely AND hold people to a higher standard. Embrace Vulnerability: Emotional honesty and caring openly are strengths, not weaknesses, for leaders. Purpose Over Perfection: Focus on finding and fulfilling your unique design rather than achieving flawlessness. Take Responsibility: We must model and teach personal responsibility; excuses perpetuate victimhood and stagnation. Keep Growing and Giving: Growth is a lifelong journey—keep learning, serving, and evolving no matter your stage or circumstances. Favorite Quotes "I've never really relied on or counted on being different. I've never been afraid to stand in front of people and tell them I care. And that makes a difference." — Lawrence Stone "Because I didn't know I was different, because I didn't accept that—I'm just me. I love me. I love what I do. I love who I am, where I am, and why I am." — Lawrence Stone "If I don't believe in me, how can I expect someone else to believe in me? You have to believe in yourself first, no matter what the world says." — Lawrence Stone This episode is a rich tapestry of wisdom, humor, and heart. Shout out to Earl Estep. This weekend, I will be at the Men of Honor Conference in Sacramento, CA. I am excited to be with you and your men. Welcome to The Daily, where we go through the Bible verse by verse, chapter by chapter, every single day. Today, we're looking at Ecclesiastes 10:1: Dead flies make the perfumer's ointment give off a stench; so a little folly outweighs wisdom and honor. — Ecclesiastes 10:1 The Little Things Matter Imagine a master perfumer crafting a bottle of the finest fragrance. Every ingredient is carefully measured, blended with skill, and designed to create something valuable. But then—just one small fly falls in. It decays, contaminates the entire mixture, and what was once desirable now stinks. That's the picture Solomon gives us. A little foolishness can destroy a lifetime of wisdom and honor. It doesn't take much—a careless word, a moment of compromise, a lapse in judgment—and suddenly, the fragrance of a godly reputation is tainted. A Little Folly, A Big Cost History is full of men who built something great but lost it all over one foolish decision. King David—a man after God's own heart—allowed a moment of lust with Bathsheba to bring chaos into his household. Judas Iscariot walked with Jesus, saw His miracles, and heard His wisdom—yet for a few silver coins, he threw it all away. Folly doesn't need to be grand; even a little can cause great damage. Guarding Against the Stench So, how do we keep dead flies out of the ointment of our lives? ☑️ Watch the Small Compromises – What seems insignificant today can become destructive tomorrow. ☑️ Surround Yourself with Wise People – The right people will call you out before a small mistake becomes a disaster. ☑️ Stay Humble and Dependent on God – The moment we think we're immune to folly is when we become vulnerable to it. So here's the question you need to ask yourself today: What “small flies” in your life could contaminate your testimony? Let's pray: Lord, help me to walk in wisdom and avoid even the slightest compromises. Keep me from folly, and let my life be a fragrance that honors You. Amen. #WisdomMatters, #GuardYourHeart, #FaithfulLiving ASK THIS: What small compromises in your life could lead to bigger problems if left unchecked? Who in your circle holds you accountable to wise living? How can you be more intentional about guarding your testimony? What practical step can you take today to remove “dead flies” from your life? DO THIS: Examine your daily habits and identify one small compromise that could lead to bigger consequences—then make a change today. PRAY THIS: Lord, help me to walk in wisdom and guard my heart against even the smallest compromises. Let my life be a fragrance that brings You glory. Amen. PLAY THIS: Yes I Will.

Crisis of Faith: A crisis of faith is a deeply personal and often painful experience where a believer struggles with doubts about God, His goodness, or their beliefs. While it can feel like spiritual darkness, it is not uncommon—many strong Christians have faced seasons of questioning and uncertainty. 1. Understanding a Crisis of Faith A crisis of faith can be triggered by: Personal suffering – Loss, illness, unanswered prayers, or hardships can make God seem distant. Unfulfilled expectations – When life doesn't go as planned, we may question God's promises. Intellectual doubts – Questions about theology, science, or the problem of evil can shake one's faith. Hypocrisy or church hurt – Seeing failures in Christian leaders or experiencing hurt from believers can create disillusionment. Even biblical figures like Job, David, Elijah, and Thomas wrestled with doubts, yet God remained faithful to them. 2. How to Navigate a Crisis of Faith Bring Your Doubts to God – God isn't afraid of our questions. The Psalms are full of raw prayers where David expresses his struggles (Psalm 13:1-2). Stay in the Word – Even when faith feels weak, continuing to read Scripture allows truth to anchor your heart. Romans 10:17 reminds us that "faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God." Surround Yourself with Godly Community – Isolation deepens doubt, but wise counsel and fellowship can bring clarity (Proverbs 11:14). Seek God, Not Just Answers – Sometimes, we want explanations when God invites us into deeper trust (Proverbs 3:5-6). Faith grows not by having all the answers but by leaning into God despite uncertainty. Remember Past Faithfulness – Reflecting on what God has done in the past can remind us of His faithfulness even in the present storm. 3. The Outcome: Strengthened, Not Destroyed A crisis of faith does not mean the end of faith—it can be a refining process. James 1:2-4 tells us that trials develop perseverance and maturity. Even Jesus, on the cross, cried out, "My God, my God, why have You forsaken Me?" (Matthew 27:46). Yet, in the resurrection, we see that doubt and despair are never the final word.

Caroline is dealing with a dilemma so many sales professionals face this time of year: How do you shake off a mid-winter rut and regain your momentum when it's cold, dark, and everyone else seems to be dragging too? On this Ask Jeb episode, I offer practical, real-world strategies to help you thaw out from the winter freeze. Whether you're fighting the gloom of early sunsets, the aftereffects of holiday downtime, or the struggle to get your customers back in “buying mode,” these tips will help you power through and regain your momentum. Surround Yourself with Positive Inputs When you're in a mid-winter sales rut—especially in cold, gray weather—your environment can either lift you up or drag you down. The content you consume and the people you interact with have a direct impact on your attitude. Limit NegativitySkip cable news and doom scrolling. It's toxic and drains energy. Steer clear of co-workers who only want to complain. Instead, find colleagues or mentors who keep the conversation upbeat and productive. Engage in “Automobile University”Turn windshield time into learning time. Load up on podcasts, audiobooks, or uplifting content. If you're on the road for field sales, use that dead time to sharpen your skills or motivation. Pro Tip: Tune in to the Sales Gravy Podcast (yes, shameless plug!) or revisit classic audio programs by Zig Ziglar, Brian Tracy, or Jim Rohn for a quick confidence boost. Create a “Win” FileSave glowing emails, client testimonials, or kudos from your boss in one place. On days when you feel like a zero, open that folder and remember your wins. Believing in yourself often wavers most when external results are slow. A targeted self-esteem boost can snap you out of that funk. Read (or Listen) Your Way Out of the Slump When you can't rely on external circumstances (like sunny weather or a jam-packed pipeline) to motivate you, it's time to feed your mind intentionally. Pick Up a BookI once pulled myself out of a rut by alternating 10 minutes of prospecting with 10 minutes of reading No Bull Selling by Hank Trisler. That pattern helped him stay focused and eventually led him to top-performer status in his region. Audio AlliesIf reading a physical book doesn't fit your schedule, try audiobooks. Caroline mentioned she's listening to The AI Edge on Audible. Whether you dive into James Clear's Atomic Habits or any other self-improvement or sales guide, consistent listening can reset your mindset. Revisit (or Set) Your Goals and Business Plan Aimlessness often fuels a sales rut. Getting clear on why you're putting in the work refocuses your daily efforts. Craft a Personal Business PlanBreak your annual quota or goals into quarterly, monthly, and weekly targets. Then, identify the daily actions that lead to those targets. Write them down, review them often, and adjust as needed. Check In with Your Plan If you've already set goals: Take them out of the drawer and ask, “Am I doing what I said I would do each day?” If you haven't set goals yet: It's never too late to start. Use the lull to plan out the rest of your year. Try the “BTN” (Better Than Nothing) ApproachOn a recent Money Monday episode, we introduced the concept of doing something—even if it's small—to maintain momentum. One call, one follow-up, or one networking email is better than none at all. Doing a little bit every day builds massive momentum over time. Even if you're not closing big deals right now, small actions (e.g., 15 minutes of prospecting, 10 minutes of follow-ups) add up. “Eat the Frog” Early in the Day The Eat the Frog concept (mentioned in Fanatical Prospecting) is about tackling the hardest or most dreaded tasks first. If winter weather and post-holiday inertia already have you feeling sluggish, don't let procrastination compound the problem. Schedule Tough Calls in the MorningIf you tend to stall on prospecting, block out time when you're freshest. Once you conquer the hardest thing on your list,...

Have you ever met someone who talks a big game but never backs it up?You know, the kind of person who seems to know everything but does nothing? Well, today, we're diving into the difference between parrots and practitioners—breaking down procedural versus declarative knowledge—and giving you five tactical ways to shift from being a talker to a doer. I haven't always been a practitioner. I used to be a parrot. And today, I want to share how I transitioned and how you can too. A parrot is someone who repeats things they've heard but never actually applies what they've learned. You probably know a few of these people. They attend every seminar, read every book, take every course—but never do anything with the knowledge. They throw around business buzzwords but don't have real-world results to show for it.Parrots thrive on declarative knowledge. That's when you know about something but don't actually do it. Think of someone who's read 10 books on investing but never put a dollar in the market. Or a “health expert” who preaches fitness but doesn't look the partOn the other hand, a practitioner is someone who does the work. They apply what they learn, experiment, fail, refine, and keep pushing forward—whether or not anyone is watching. Practitioners build procedural knowledge, meaning they've lived through the experience and earned their expertise.Practitioners say, “I did,” while parrots say, “I should.” And that distinction makes all the difference. So, how do you make the shift? Here are five tactical steps to go from just talking about success to creating it.Audit Your Knowledge vs. ExecutionAsk yourself: Are you consuming information just to sound smart, or are you applying it? Take stock of what you've learned recently and make a plan to put it into action immediately.Adopt the 70/30 RuleSpend 70% of your time doing and only 30% of your time learning. Reading books is great, but results come from execution. Like Tony Robbins says (and I'm gonna parrot him here), knowledge isn't power—execution is.Set Action-Based GoalsInstead of saying, “I want to start a business,” say, “I will create my first offer and get five paying customers by the end of the month.” Make it specific, measurable, and time-bound.Surround Yourself with PractitionersYou become who you hang out with. If your circle is full of people who talk but never do, it's time to level up your network. That's why we have The Happy Hustle Club—a mastermind of high-level entrepreneurs who are actually taking action.Apply the 48-Hour Rule(Game-Changer!)Whenever you learn something valuable, apply it within 48 hours. This prevents you from becoming a knowledge hoarder and forces you to take action. The world is full of parrots, but success belongs to the practitioners. If you want to truly Happy Hustle your dream life, you need to do the work. Audit your execution, set action-based goals, surround yourself with the right people, and most importantly—apply what you learn. So, are you a parrot or a practitioner?Connect with Cary!https://www.instagram.com/caryjack/https://www.facebook.com/SirCaryJackhttps://www.linkedin.com/in/cary-jack-kendzior/https://twitter.com/thehappyhustlehttps://www.youtube.com/channel/UCFDNsD59tLxv2JfEuSsNMOQ/featured Get a free copy of his new book, The Happy Hustle, 10 Alignments to Avoid Burnout & Achieve Blissful Balance https://www.thehappyhustle.com/bookSign up for The Journey: 10 Days To Become a Happy Hustler Online Coursehttps://thehappyhustle.com/thejourney/Apply to the Montana Mastermind Epic Camping Adventurehttps://thehappyhustle.com/mastermind/“It's time to Happy Hustle, a blissfully balanced life you love, full of passion, purpose, and positive impact!”Episode Sponsor: Magnesium Breakthrough from BiOptimizers (https://bioptimizers.com/happy)If you've been on a restricted diet lately or maybe even taken some meds to shed those pounds for the summer, I gotta warn ya—be careful! Matt Venturi, Founder and CEO of ClearingBid, Inc., is changing that. With decades of Wall Street experience, he saw firsthand how outdated systems and entrenched practices created barriers for smaller investors. Now, he's pioneering a platform that levels the playing field, allowing everyone to participate in IPOs through their brokers, breaking down long-standing financial barriers."What we're really doing is allowing everybody to come in at that IPO price and be able to have their order seen and recognized," Matt explained. Traditionally, Wall Street has prioritized its biggest institutional clients, giving them first access to newly issued stock at a discounted price, while retail investors are left to buy shares in the secondary market at inflated prices. ClearingBid is disrupting this system by introducing transparency, connectivity, and inclusion—core values that drive the company's mission. For companies going public, ClearingBid offers a revolutionary approach to capital raising. Rather than relying solely on institutional investors, companies can now cast a wider net, tapping into affinity investor groups and everyday market participants. This shift not only democratizes access but also builds a more engaged and loyal shareholder base. Matt pointed to Reddit's IPO as a cautionary tale: "Only 7% of that offering ended up going to Reddit users—93% went to the big institutions. Those who wanted in on the IPO were left buying shares later at higher prices."Beyond its innovation in IPOs, ClearingBid is proving the power of regulated investment crowdfunding. The company raised $5 million from 3,900 investors in a campaign that far exceeded expectations. "At first, I wasn't sure it was the right approach for us, but it turned out to be an incredibly positive experience," Matt shared. "Our investors aren't just backers—they're evangelists. They believe in our mission and help us spread the word."With the success of its crowdfunding campaign and its game-changing IPO platform, ClearingBid is poised to shake up Wall Street. By opening access to IPOs for all investors, Matt Venturi isn't just leading a company—he's leading a movement.tl;dr:* Matt Venturi is revolutionizing the IPO market by making it accessible to retail investors through ClearingBid.* Traditional IPOs favor institutional investors, but ClearingBid aims to create a more inclusive and transparent system.* Matt raised $5 million via regulated investment crowdfunding, demonstrating the power of affinity investors.* His superpower, passion and conviction, fuels his ability to challenge industry norms and drive meaningful change.* Entrepreneurs can learn from Matt's success by mastering fundamentals, rallying support, and leading with enthusiasm. How to Develop Passion and Conviction As a SuperpowerMatt Venturi's superpower is passion and conviction. Throughout his career, from Wall Street to entrepreneurship, he has harnessed these qualities to push forward transformative change in the financial industry. "You have to be passionate about what you do," Matt said. "When you're speaking to something that you truly believe in, that conviction gives you the confidence to go toe-to-toe with the best in the industry."One of the most compelling stories that illustrates Matt's passion occurred as he worked to launch ClearingBid. Many skeptics doubted whether he could challenge Wall Street's entrenched system of IPO allocations, questioning if a more inclusive approach could truly work. But instead of backing down, he leaned into his conviction, tirelessly advocating for a system that allows retail investors to participate in IPOs at the same terms as institutional players. His relentless drive led to a $5 million crowdfunding raise and the launch of a platform poised to redefine capital markets. For those looking to develop passion and conviction as strengths, Matt offers key insights:* Master the Fundamentals – A strong foundation in your field provides the confidence to take bold steps.* Surround Yourself with Supporters – Find a team and a community that believes in your mission.* Be a Cheerleader – Lead with enthusiasm, especially in tough times.* Welcome Skepticism – Use criticism as fuel to refine and strengthen your approach.* Celebrate Wins, Learn from Setbacks – Resilience is essential for maintaining conviction over the long haul.By following Matt Venturi's example and advice, you can make passion and conviction a skill. With practice and effort, you could make it a superpower that enables you to do more good in the world.Remember, however, that research into success suggests that building on your own superpowers is more important than creating new ones or overcoming weaknesses. You do you!Guest ProfileMatt Venturi (he/him):Founder & CEO, ClearingBid, Inc.About ClearingBid, Inc.: ClearingBid is the world's first and only IPO network. Episode Summary:In this empowering episode of The Floral Hustle Podcast, Jen shares the game-changing mindset shift that transformed her business, life, and overall happiness: believing that success is inevitable. If you've ever doubted whether big things are possible for you, struggled with self-doubt, or felt stuck in hustle mode without seeing results, this episode is for you. Jen dives deep into how shifting your mindset—from hoping success happens to knowing it's inevitable—can completely change the trajectory of your life and business. She also breaks down the power of consistency, why so many florists fail to reach their full potential, and how you can start building the habits that will make success unavoidable.Key Takeaways:1. The Mindset Shift: Success is InevitableInstead of hoping success happens, decide that it's inevitable. We've been programmed to fear success, to think it's "too hard" or "too risky"—but that belief is holding you back.Stop waiting for permission, stop doubting, and start believing in your own ability to make things happen.2. Ditching the "Hard Work = Success" MentalityGrowing up, Jen saw two extremes: her mom working relentlessly and her dad avoiding work entirely. She had to unlearn the belief that success only comes through struggle and exhaustion.Yes, success takes effort—but it should feel aligned and rewarding, not draining and overwhelming.3. Overcoming Fear-Based ThinkingMany florists hesitate to grow because of fear of failure, financial insecurity, or stepping out of their comfort zone. The reality? Fear isn't an indicator of failure—it's proof that you're stepping into something bigger.4. The Power of Consistency: The Key to Making Success Inevitable"I am inevitably consistent."Success isn't about random bursts of effort—it's about showing up every single day, no matter what.Jen's consistency in her podcast, social media, coaching, fitness, and business growth is what keeps her momentum strong. If you're not seeing results, ask yourself: "Am I putting in the work consistently?"5. Are You Putting in 100K Effort? Many florists say they want a six-figure business, but are they putting in six-figure effort? You can't expect to make $100K if you're only working 10 hours a week and avoiding marketing, networking, or refining your craft.Success requires showing up, taking action, and committing to the long-term process.Action Steps to Make Your Success Inevitable:✅ Shift Your Mindset: Start telling yourself every day that success is inevitable. Post it on your mirror, make it your phone wallpaper—make it your reality.✅ Audit Your Consistency: Where are you showing up consistently? Where are you dropping the ball?✅ Commit to Aligned Action: Stop hoping success happens and start taking action that aligns with your goals every single day.✅ Eliminate the Excuses: If you feel stuck, ask yourself—are you actually putting in the effort required to see results?✅ Surround Yourself with Growth-Minded People: If you need guidance, accountability, and expert mentorship, consider The Floral CEO Mastermind to accelerate your success.Resources & Links:

SHOW NOTES: On this show…we're diving into a topic that's close to the bone—literally; taking ownership of your health and wellness by shifting from vanity to vitality. Have you ever found yourself sweating it out at the gym, not for the love of health, but to fit into those jeans from high school? Or perhaps you've chosen a salad over a burger, not because you enjoy leafy greens, but because of that looming beach vacation? Taking ownership of your health and wellness isn't about chasing a number on the scale or squeezing into last year's shorts—it's about reclaiming your joy, energy, and freedom. Imagine a life where exercise feels like play, eating well becomes self-care, and you're motivated by how amazing you feel rather than how you think you should look. It's time to trade body-shaming for body-celebrating and turn health into your personal happiness project. Let's flip the script and explore how taking ownership of our health—both physical and mental—can lead to genuine freedom, rather than being shackled by societal expectations and self-imposed limitations. Health is a holistic state encompassing physical fitness, mental well-being, and emotional balance. It's about how we feel, function, and thrive in our daily lives, not just how we look. Understanding this broader perspective allows us to set more meaningful health goals that contribute to our overall quality of life. I found an insightful article that delves into how body shaming can lead to long-term psychological and physical health issues, including depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, and eating disorders. Not to be a downer but I think we need to start off by coming clean and getting to the heart of the matter. Dr. Danielle Kelvis shares The Impact of Body Shaming: How It Affects Mental Health Alex Davies questions Could soft fitness be your workout game-changer? Over on the Ted Archive YouTube channel I found some amazing information and inspiration from Laurie Coots on The psychological weight loss strategy Now that we've unpacked the idea of shifting from vanity to vitality and explored the roots of body shaming, it's time to talk about how to break the cycle. Taking ownership of your health and wellness isn't about perfection or ticking off a checklist—it's about building habits and a mindset that prioritize your happiness, freedom, and well-being. Here are practical steps to help you flip the narrative and take control of your health, both physically and mentally. Reframe Your Motivations Start by redefining your why. Instead of aiming for a certain size or shape, focus on how you want to feel. Maybe it's more energy to keep up with your kids, a stronger body to tackle that hike, or a calmer mind to handle stress with grace. When your goals are tied to how you live, rather than how you look, they become more meaningful and sustainable. Try This: Write down three non-aesthetic reasons you want to prioritize your health. Keep this list visible as a daily reminder of your real goals. Silence the Inner Critic That little voice in your head—the one that compares you to others, nitpicks your reflection, and measures your worth by numbers? It's time to give it a new job. Turn your inner critic into your inner coach. Celebrate small wins, speak kindly to yourself, and replace criticism with encouragement. Try This: When you catch yourself thinking something negative about your body, pause and reframe. For example, instead of “I hate my thighs,” try “These thighs carry me through my day.” Move for Joy, Not Punishment Exercise doesn't have to be a grueling chore. It's not about “burning off” last night's dessert or earning your next meal. Movement is a celebration of what your body can do! Find activities you love—dancing, swimming, yoga, hiking—and let them be a source of fun and empowerment. Try This: Experiment with new activities until you find one that feels like play, not punishment. Then, schedule it into your week as a gift to yourself. Fuel Your Body with Respect Ditch the diet mentality that labels foods as “good” or “bad.” Instead, think about nourishment. Choose foods that make you feel strong, energized, and satisfied. It's not about restriction—it's about respect for your body. Try This: Instead of cutting out your favorite foods, add in more of the good stuff—colorful fruits, veggies, whole grains, and proteins—and notice how they make you feel. Focus on Mental Health as Much as Physical Health isn't just about the body; it's about the mind, too. Make time for mental self-care: meditation, journaling, therapy, or simply unplugging from screens. A healthy mind is the foundation for making lasting changes to your physical health. Try This: Start a gratitude journal. Write down three things each day that you're thankful for about your body and mind. Surround Yourself with Positive Influences The people and messages you surround yourself with can have a huge impact on your mindset. Seek out communities that celebrate all body types, avoid toxic comparisons on social media, and spend time with people who uplift and support you. Try This: Curate your social media feed by unfollowing accounts that make you feel inadequate and following those that inspire body positivity and health for happiness. Be Patient and Compassionate with Yourself Changing ingrained patterns and beliefs isn't easy. It takes time, effort, and a lot of self-compassion. Remember, progress isn't linear. You'll have setbacks, but they don't erase your progress. Treat yourself with the same kindness you'd show a friend. Try This: When you hit a rough patch, remind yourself, “I'm not starting over—I'm continuing from where I left off.” CHALLENGE: Redefine your approach to health by focusing on activities and habits that enhance your overall well-being, not just your appearance. Embrace this holistic perspective to unlock a happier, freer, and more vibrant version of yourself. I Know YOU Can Do It!

Katy Milkman's book "How to Change" has answers. If you want 2025 to be the year you parent with purpose and patience, this episode is for you. Here's what I talked about:Traditions I reflected on my family's holiday traditions—both the people we've lost and the new faces who've joined us. It's a game-changer.Identity-Based ResolutionsI shared why your resolutions should focus on who you want to be rather than just what you want to do. For me, it's about being the kind of parent who stays calm, listens, and leads with curiosity. The Power of CommunityI talked about why the people you surround yourself with can make or break your goals—and how to build a community that supports the parent you want to become. My Key Takeaways for 2025:Start Fresh: Use moments like New Year's to reset and feel optimistic about change.Anchor Your Goals in Identity: Instead of saying, “I'm going to stop yelling,” say, “I'm the kind of parent who stays calm under pressure.”Surround Yourself with the Right People: Community is essential to lasting change.A Few Quotes I Love:"It's not about trying harder; it's about trying smarter.""Every choice becomes an opportunity to affirm the parent you long to be."Your Turn:I'd love to hear your parenting resolutions for 2025! Email me at podcast@wholeparentacademy.com—research shows that when you share your goals with someone, you're three times more likely to stick with them.If you're curious, my resolution this year is simple: I am a punishment-free parent. It's a journey, not a destination, but I've made so much progress by grounding my goals in the kind of parent I want to be.A Special Thank You:Thanks to everyone who sent in their resolutions to share on this episode. I think that we allow each other to play small and blame it on human nature. “Oh, that's just human nature.” It's human nature to do as little as possible to try to get as much as possible. But the human spirit says, “How can I contribute as much as possible?”The future of energy lies not just in renewables but in energy abundance, according to Lester Crafton, co-founder of Ovanova. In today's episode, Lester shared how his company is transforming rural America by deploying solar microgrids—systems that combine solar, energy storage, and smart controls—to meet surging energy demands.Lester believes the need for energy will grow exponentially in the coming decades. “What would happen if we went from an energy-starved world to an energy-abundant world? How much better could we treat each other?” he asked. With this philosophy, Ovanova focuses on deploying solar microgrids to ensure energy security, particularly for communities at the greatest risk during power shortages. The demand isn't hypothetical. Lester identified six trends—he calls them a “six-headed monster”—that are pushing the grid to its limits: the return of American manufacturing, electric vehicles, Bitcoin mining, widespread electrification, robotics, and the energy-hungry rise of artificial intelligence. “An AI data center takes like 70 times the energy of a normal data center,” he said, highlighting the urgency of their work.In rural communities, where large-scale grids often fail first, microgrids provide a reliable, local solution. “If Elon's supercomputer and the Blue Oval [Ford plant] need energy, then it doesn't matter if my parents' medical devices need to run. They get the blackout,” Lester explained.Ovanova's mission resonates far beyond energy—it's about economic and community resilience. Lester's vision for microgrids offers both a practical path forward for the solar industry and a brighter, more equitable energy future. If you're looking to support this mission, Ovanova frequently raises capital through regulated investment crowdfunding, empowering people to invest directly in the clean energy revolution.tl;dr:* In today's episode, Lester Crafton shares how Ovanova builds solar microgrids to meet rising energy demands.* Lester explains how six factors—including AI and EVs—drive exponential energy consumption in the future.* This episode highlights how virtual power plants and microgrids secure energy for rural communities.* Lester's belief in persistence and humanity's goodness fuels Ovanova's innovative clean energy solutions.* Lester emphasizes that solar energy's cost-effectiveness and scalability make it essential for energy security. How to Develop Persistence and Belief in Humanity As a SuperpowerLester Crafton's superpower is his unwavering persistence, fueled by a deep belief in the goodness of humanity. He views challenges as opportunities to create, iterate, and improve. By centering his work on contributing as much value as possible, Lester inspires others to join him in solving problems that matter, particularly in renewable energy and disaster preparedness.Lester shared an anecdote about a nonprofit project led by Xena Leone, Ovanova's director. After inspiring people in Peru to clean up rivers, she returned to her North Carolina hometown to establish microgrids for disaster preparedness. This initiative not only strengthened local resilience but also laid the foundation for virtual power plants—systems that keep communities running during grid failures. Lester's persistence and ability to rally talented people like Xena illustrate his commitment to solving real-world problems while inspiring others to contribute.Tips for Developing This Superpower* Focus on Contribution: Ask, “How can I create as much value as possible for others?” rather than focusing on personal gain.* Embrace Feedback as Growth: Treat setbacks as experiments to refine and improve your work.* Surround Yourself with Amazing People: Attract talented, purpose-driven individuals by inspiring them with your vision.* Believe in Humanity's Potential: Even when facing setbacks, remember the inherent goodness and capabilities of people.* Keep Going, No Matter What: Persevere through challenges with a mindset of creating, sharing, and iterating until you succeed.By following Lester Crafton's example and advice, you can make persistence and belief in humanity a skill. With practice and effort, you could make it a superpower that enables you to do more good in the world.Remember, however, that research into success suggests that building on your own superpowers is more important than creating new ones or overcoming weaknesses. You do you!Guest ProfileLester Crafton (he/him):Co-Founder, OvanovaAbout Ovanova: Ovanova's mission is to add as much value as possible to as many lives as possible. Episode #212: Unlocking Business Growth Join us today as Colleen Interview's Zachary Palmer on Take the Leap. In this episode, we dive deep into the power of proximity and how surrounding ourselves with the right people can transform our lives and businesses. Here are three key takeaways that I believe will resonate with you: Trust Your Gut: Zach shared a powerful story about a pivotal moment in his journey when an expert advised him to close his family business due to its dire financial situation. Instead of succumbing to that advice, he trusted his instincts and worked tirelessly to turn the business around. This serves as a reminder that sometimes, the best decisions come from within. If something doesn't feel right, don't be afraid to follow your intuition! The Importance of Asking: One of the most profound insights from Zach was the simple yet impactful idea that if you want something, you just need to ask for it. Whether it's seeking guidance, mentorship, or opportunities, putting your desires out into the universe can open doors you never knew existed. Don't underestimate the power of a well-placed question! Surround Yourself with High-Caliber Individuals: Zach emphasized the significance of the people we choose to surround ourselves with. By placing ourselves in rooms with successful, driven individuals, we can absorb their knowledge and experiences. This “power of proximity” not only elevates our mindset but also provides us with invaluable insights that can propel us forward in our personal and professional lives. I encourage you to listen to this episode and reflect on how you can apply these lessons in your own journey. Remember, you are the only you that has ever been and ever will be, so take the leap and design the life you truly desire!
