In this episode Lauren and Cinthanie discuss with special guest Sharon Mitchell on the crutch of alcohol in today’s society among hard charging working women. ABOUT SHARON MITCHELL:Sharon offers self-development courses for women who are ready to make positive change to their relationship with alcohol. She also has a number of small courses as well as an online membership program and community of over 33,000 women who have used her information to change their drinking and nearly 6,000 course participants. “Hi, I’m Sharon Mitchell, and I empower women around the world to make a positive change to their relationship with alcohol. Yes, you guessed it, I am an alcoholic.  I’m not the ‘one too many glasses of chardonnay over lunch’ kind of a drinker either – I am the ‘I can drink you under the table and still beat you at a mind game’ kind of a high-functioning drinker. I lived a life that many people envied – marriage, kids, mansion, multi-million dollar business, high-class parties and enviable cars and clothes.  I ‘had it all’.  All, except for my health and, of course, my happiness.I balanced this very thin tight rope until 2007, just before my 39th birthday when the alcohol finally won the battle and nearly killed me. On my death-bed the Doctor told my family to say their goodbyes.  My 12 year old twins remember that day well. That day began a journey (which to everyone’s surprise I obviously lived through!) that has brought me to where I am now. Sure, I won’t disagree that it is in fact a momentous achievement that I have never picked up a drink since that day almost 11 years ago.  And that choice saved my life, but more importantly it has made my life what it is today.I have traveled the world and helped many thousands of women change their own lives through changing the way they drink. I have chosen to work outside the ‘addiction industry’, as my research, and my personal experience as I traveled around the world, showed me that in fact (contrary to what the addiction industry will tell you) over 92% of people whose health is affected by their alcohol use are NOT alcoholic. Although there is a plethora of services within the traditional industry for alcoholics, I quickly saw that there was a lack of information, tools and support for high-achieving and hard-working women who wanted to make positive change in their lives.Although initially I provided my services in a one-on-one coaching style, a number of years ago I moved into the digital space enabling me to follow a one-to-many business model which does allow me to help more women.  After personally spending time living and working within some of the poorest communities in the world, and establishing alcohol education services in those communities, I am now working toward an expanded program to allow funds from my business to provide alcohol services in developing nations and minority communities around the globe. Although I am an Australian, I travel pretty-much full-time now in order to assist as many women as possible. My twins are all grown up and at almost 23 years old are successful and independent young adults who have blossomed and we are all living proof that it is never too late for any women to make multi-generational change for herself and her family.” Sharon’s goal is to provide a “pay it forward” style of service to communities to provide alcohol education to women in need in developing nations around the globe.
