When Kimberlee Duval arrived at Cymbiotika, the wellness company was preparing a leap few bootstrapped brands attempt—moving from direct-to-consumer to retail shelves. “Our two owners, Charlene and Shahab, have done everything direct,” she tells us. “They wanted to build an organization for the long term.” That resolve led the company to take on debt rather than private-equity money to fund its Sprouts launch in 2024. The risk paid off: Sprouts highlighted Cymbiotika's success in its quarterly earnings release, proof that intentional growth can outperform speed. Now, with products heading to 1,988 Target stores, Duval's finance team is focused on scaling without losing clarity. “We restructured the finance function to align with that growth strategy,” she tells us, pointing to centralized operations in NetSuite, expanded FP&A and cost accounting capabilities, and the creation of clear SOPs. Technology, she believes, is the enabler that keeps teams lean and insights sharp.“There's no reason to segregate between the groups,” she explains, describing her cross-channel approach to e-commerce and retail finance. AI tools and automated workflows now handle much of the transactional load, freeing her people to focus on analysis and collaboration. At the heart of her leadership philosophy is unity. “We're a team … with a common purpose and a common goal,” Duval tells us. That ethos—pairing disciplined systems with shared intent—continues to shape Cymbiotika's transformation from a digital wellness brand into a multichannel movement for intentional living.

Husband. Father. Son. Pastor. Co-worker. Friend. We all bear many titles, all of which describe us; none of which fully defines us. But of all the labels we wear, none is more important than “Child of God”. How do we become a child of God? What is our identity before we become a child of God? What are the implications of being a child of God? Paul answers all these questions and more for us in Galatians 3:23-4:7. Check out Sunday's sermon as we worship God our Father (4:6), Jesus our Redeemer (4:5), and the Holy Spirit our Guarantor (4:6), and we celebrate our new identity as “sons” and daughters of God (4:7)! A new grading model is expanding across secondary schools this year as Bend-La Pine Schools continues its implementation of Standards-Based Grading. Some middle and high schools previously adopted it, more are implementing it this year, and all secondary schools will have it fully in place by this time next year. It's a monumental shift in how our teachers evaluate how well students are learning and the process by which grades are assigned. Katie Legace, the Executive Director of High Schools, and Stephen DuVal, the Executive Director of Middle Schools, join Dr. Cook to discuss how this approach is better for students. Some families may wonder how the new grading model will translate to a student's transcript and evaluation of college admission applications. DuVal offered assurances that universities and colleges are accustomed to working with schools that use standards-based grading. "This is not going to disadvantage our students from reaching or achieving some of those high level colleges that our students want to get into," he said. "We're doing a better job of preparing them because we're being crystal clear on what the bar is and how to reach it so that they're prepared when they get there. Colleges are ready for this; they've already been doing this. This isn't new to them.” Learn more: https://www.bend.k12.or.us/district/academics/middle-school-instruction/grading-practices/grading-practices-faq (Theme music by Zakhar Valaha)

Mike Evans and Brandon Stokley open today’s show with the instant reaction to the Broncos’ tough win over the Tennessee Titans. Are they worried about how rough it looked? Stink dials into the show thanks to the weather delay in Duval and the guys get his thoughts on the Broncos’ ugly win and the running game. Mike didn’t see enough out of the running game, whether it’s the performance early or the amount of runs the RB’s got, he wonders if Sean Payton is putting too much faith in Bo Nix. The guys finish the first hour on a high note, highlighting the dominant display we saw from the defense.
Unity. It's one of the most frequent exhortations found throughout the New Testament: the call to “be united in one mind” (1 Cor 1:10); to “maintain the unity of the Spirit” (Eph 4:3); to “agree with one another and live in peace” (2 Cor 13:11). It was even Jesus' final prayer for his followers: “that they may become perfectly one, so that the world may know that you sent me” (Jn 17:23). But what is this “one”-ness that we share in Christ? What does it mean to be one in the gospel? Check out the sermon for part two of Paul's answer in Galatians 2:11-21.

In this week's episode, NeuroBiz coach Emily Duval Ledger shares with hosts Erin Gallardo, PT, DPT, NCS and Claire McLean, PT, DPT, NCS the lessons she's learned so far from attempting a hard thing: Learning to roller skate at 48 years old. Emily decided to try something new. Something she wasn't inherently good at and through her roller skating experience, she's picked up lessons that overlap with the things business owners need to keep in mind. She describes how her initial skating lessons put her face to face with the biggest thing she wanted to avoid - falling - and why it ended up being the best thing. Emily emphasizes that successful entrepreneurs often emerge from previous failed ventures, and approaching challenges with curiosity instead of anxiety can lead to greater success. The episode highlights the importance of infusing fun and playfulness into learning, demonstrating how pairing skill practice with lighthearted conversation can reduce performance pressure and enhance creativity. Emily argues that leaving space for joy allows individuals to be more nimble and innovative in both personal pursuits and professional environments. Her final lesson focuses on "softening" when encountering obstacles - maintaining flexibility and a relaxed mindset when navigating unexpected business challenges, much like adjusting one's stance while roller skating over uneven terrain. By sharing her vulnerable learning process on her "Silver Skate Girl" Instagram account, Emily hopes to inspire others to step out of their comfort zones and embrace new experiences. The conversation ultimately celebrates continuous learning, community support, and the value of approaching life's challenges with openness, humor, and resilience. We've all heard it said that “people don't really change”. Well try telling that to the apostle Paul! What could possibly convince a man who had devoted his life to “persecut[ing] the church of God violently” (Gal 1:13) to then re-dedicate his life to “preaching the faith he once tried to destroy” (1:23)? Only one thing, according to Paul: “a revelation of Jesus Christ” (1:12). If sinners like us have any hope of being changed… redeemed… SAVED… we must be “called by [God's] grace” (1:15). How does God do this? Why does He do it? In this text, Paul unpacks the origin, objective, and outcome of God's calling on our lives.

Over the last week, a common complaint has found a home amidst head coach Mike Norvell's practice evaluations — missed opportunities. Even when complimentary of his team's mindset, approach, execution and potential, he's found himself repeatedly expressing disappointment in the lack of fully taking advantage of moments that hold even more weight when the season rolls around, particularly on the defensive side. “We've had some opportunities to to create takeaways defensively, left a few of them out there, really within all three groups,” he said following Thursday's practice in Jacksonville. “Plenty of people are happy with PBU. We're not PBU University. We're DBU University. You got to go make the play. Go finish the play, put yourself in position. You have to be able to finish in those moments — when you're back there [during a game], the entire stadium when a defensive player is “oh, oh man.” Those are game-changers, ones that absolutely impact the course of all things, so it's one of the things we're really emphasizing — the focus to the finish.“ The hope is that the Seminoles' road trip to Jacksonville, an annual excursion under Norvell, will accelerate both the understanding of expectations and the team-building that occurs in the dog days of summer. “They understand the opportunity that we have,” Norvell said. “You get an opportunity to come be in a place where it's just us and our guys know that. Everybody's got their own unique journey, our own backstories and when you get to spend time together and get to know a little bit more of somebody's why, when you get to really spend more of that quality time, it just continues to bring you together.” Defensive line coach Terrance Knighton's backstory includes Jacksonville, where he spent three years after being selected by the Jaguars in the 2009 NFL Draft, a fact not lost on lineman Deante McCray — himself having spent time in Duval. “It's awesome to be in a room like that,” McCray said. “Like he's been where we're all trying to get to. So, we're going to listen to what he says. He's really relatable. He's seen it. He's coached it. He's seen it all. Like, you know what I'm saying? That's a guy where you believe everything he says. No question. Like, he wants you to run in a wall 100 miles per hour, you gonna run into a wall 100 miles per hour.” Knighton has seen his example embraced by his unit, to a degree that they've begun emulating his personality. Asked if he brought up any tales from his days in a Jaguars uniform, he said his players beat him to the punch. “They do it all the time. They give me crap about it,” he joked, saying “they pull up old YouTube videos and things like that — obviously I tell them I was the best ever, so they go and look for film on it. We have a good time with it, they were like, “Oh, coach, you're back in Jacksonville. Are you going to cry?” And then all you know, all this stuff. But we have a good time, man, you always know your group as a position coach takes on your personality. So, I'm used to the banter and the locker room talk. So, we're having a lot of fun with it.” Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
