President Donald Trump's promised tariffs have become a reality: This week, he announced a 10% tariff on all imported goods as well as “reciprocal tariffs” on specific countries. Economists and business owners across the globe are stunned at how high these taxes will be, and that reaction is also playing out in the St. Louis region. Shayn Prapaisilp, COO of Global Foods Group, told St. Louis on the Air that he expected high levies on products from some countries, but was “shocked” by other reciprocal tariffs. Prapaisilp shares his perspective on navigating Trump's tariffs, the lack of local options for specialty food items, and the challenge of keeping his customers happy as prices rise.

This week our guest is Psychotherapist Mel Meik who has worked for the British Heart Foundation so is very knowledgeable about heart health She shares some life saving information in this episode In this episode: As a child Mel had a tragic exposure to alcohol-related trauma: At six years old, her mother survived a car accident caused by a drunk driver, which deeply impacted her views on alcohol and drink-driving. She also had her drink spiked once, reinforcing her need to stay in control. She is grateful for her "off switch" that prevents excessive drinking. Mel shared her knowledge of Heart disease which is the world's leading cause of death. It increases blood pressure and weight. It also raises risk of cardiovascular disease, heart attack, stroke, and type 2 diabetes. It can damage the heart muscle and cause abnormal heart rhythms and of course... Drinking large amounts in one go can dangerously slow heart rate and breathing. Twice as many women die from heart disease as from breast cancer and Women's heart attack symptoms are often different and overlooked – we are more likely to be stoic and brush off the symptoms if they are not too severe I asked Mel to describe the key symptoms in women: Chest pain, breathlessness, sweating, nausea (often for months before an attack). Pain in the left arm, feeling overly tired or weak. Her heart health tips are to monitor blood pressure regularly (2-3 times per week). Stay active (even walking helps). Eat a healthy diet (fruits, vegetables, protein). Avoid smoking—a major heart disease contributor. We talked about our mutual friend Helen who has been with Tribe Sober for just over a year Mel has been friends with Helen for over 20 years so was able to describe her journey into dependence and her transformation as she ditched the drink and began to thrive in sobriety Helen is now happy, healthy, and inspiring others as a Tribe Sober Cheerleader Mel explained how she's seen Helen's life open up – her newfound friendships and travel plans (Copenhagen, Paris, South Africa) reflect her growth. Mel's childhood trauma pushed her toward becoming a psychotherapist. Trained for three years while working full-time. Completed 200+ hours of client work and three years of personal therapy. Specializes in humanistic and integrative psychotherapy. Believes people are healed in relationships. I asked Mel how psychotherapy could help people in recovery Mel believes that it Helps address root causes of drinking (trauma, stress, avoidance). Can also uncover developmental trauma from childhood. Recommends additional support (e.g., community like Tribe Sober). Mel offers online therapy sessions and her website is https://www.lincolnshirepsychotherapy.co.uk/ she offers free discovery calls Mel sent me some useful links:- The study on the gender bias mis diagnosis and spotting the signs of a heart attack https://www.bhf.org.uk/informationsupport/support/women-with-a-heart-condition/women-and-heart-disease RevivR - learn CPR at home in 15 minutes https://www.bhf.org.uk/how-you-can-help/how-to-save-a-life/how-to-do-cpr/learn-cpr-in-15-minutes?&utm_campaign=revivrppc~24-115&utm_medium=ppc&utm_source=google&utm_content=adcopy&utm_term=Headline&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAiAneK8BhAVEiwAoy2HYaXs20bEKxGVL4ZHlDCS7zwwwSW9d_oRhFY_mzt-Q55z6qRhCH1ouhoCna8QAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds More Info We're including a free Masterclass, Membership and Coaching session to the next few people who book into the Tribe Sober Retreat in Bali in October Talking of payment we have a 3-part payment plan – first payment reserves your spot then second and third payments are later in the year. making her very first appearance on Rick Flynn's podcast is one very intelligent, not to mention very strong woman, JANET McCONNELL. We know aging will happen no matter what, and we know that aging well is not a guarantee left on its own. What does aging look like and how does it feel?In Elements of Aging Well, the author, Janet McConnell, answers many questions using her journey. In doing so, she feels emboldened to say things out loud that, until now, she hadn't dared to say. She asks, “How am I preparing to meet the world with my armor unbuckled and my boundaries intact?” Her only authority is a life well-lived. No book, body of research, degree, or certification could have taught her the wisdom that her body holds in the outcome of daily living, giving her the experience of aging while becoming younger. In this book, Janet tells of her journey of physical and emotional transformation in midlife. She details the “Elements of Aging Well” that brought her such excellent results. Exercise and nutrition are necessary, but tools for resilience, setting boundaries, and forming good habits are also crucial.Elements of Aging Well is NOT an anti-aging book. The reader should embrace healthy longevity. McConnell advocates for living life fully as you age. Healthy aging is a gift you give yourself, and it's the most surprising gift. Her wish is for you to enjoy a long and vibrant life and the courage to join her in questioning the status quo of what society says aging is. Buy her book on Amazon. In this cutting-edge, revisionist portrait, renowned science journalist Heather Pringle, turns long-held assumptions regarding the role of Viking women on their head. Using the latest archaeological research and historical findings, she sheds fascinating new light on the powerful women of North. Until Scandinavia converted to Christianity and came under the rule of powerful kings, the Vikings were a dominant force in the medieval world. Outfitted with sleek, wind-powered ships, they left their mark, spreading terror across Europe, sacking cities, deposing kings, and ransacking entire economies. After the Vikings, the world was never the same. But as much as we know about this celebrated culture, there is a large missing piece: its women. All but ignored by contemporary European writers, these shadowy figures were thought to have played little part in the famous feats of the Vikings, instead remaining at home as wives, mothers, and homemakers. Members of a complex society rich in culture, courage, and a surprisingly modern gender ideology, the women of the Viking age were in fact forces to be reckoned with: Sorceresses, Warriors, Traders, Artisans, Explorers, Settlers, Landowners, Power brokers and Queens.
