Labour have launched their manifesto with just two things on the cover - a picture of Keir Starmer and the word “change” - but how much change are they actually offering when it comes to the big issues of the day such as Brexit, Ukraine, the housing crisis, climate change and the economy? Labour appears to be on course to win power with a safety first strategy that promises relatively little, leaving us relatively little to hold them to account for. And now the Conservatives are warning of the dangers of a Labour “supermajority”. Joining Krishnan Guru-Murthy to discuss this on The Political Fourcast are Labour's Stella Creasy, the Green Party's Sian Berry and Channel 4 News' senior political correspondent Paul McNamarra. Produced by Silvia Maresca, Calum Fraser, Rob Thomson, Nick Jackson.
Ali Miraj sits in and is joined on Cross Question by Conservative MP and former minister Shailesh Vara, the Green Party's Sian Berry, civil liberties campaigner Silkie Carlo and political commentator Charlie Rowley.

May 6th will mark regional local elections in the UK, to include the London mayoral election. Considering that 4 of the 5 of us are based in London, this does in fact affect us. However, all polling indicates that Sadiq Khan will win again on a platform of More Cops and handing all decisions to property developers, with the remaining candidates all basically wanting More Cops. Sian Berry? Bad. Laurence Fox? Don't make me laugh. Shaun Bailey? Joke. Brian Rose? Okay, he's extremely bad also, but that man is a verifiable content machine. So, we decided on a platform of 'vote if you want to do but don't really expect much either way' and then decided to talk about Brian Rose's completely bonkers life force. Hope you enjoy! Just over two weeks to go to the vote for mayor of London, and the Greens are promising Londoners a series of measures to improve air-quality, control sky-high rents and even target ending murders in the city within a decade. Sian Berry, the Green candidate and co-leader of the party, tells Bloomberg Westminster's Caroline Hepker and Roger Hearing, that it's important to offer Londoners an alternative and one that will make the city better to work and live in. Subrah Krishnan-Harihara head of research Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce joins to explain why his city is an increasingly attractive location for business and government for as it emerges from pandemic lockdown.
The Evening Standard's City Hall editor Ross Lydall joins the podcast with two weeks to go until London hits the ballot box for the mayoral election. He's been speaking to both Sadiq Khan and Shaun Bailey who have been campaigning in the city, with the Conservative candidate making up some ground in the polls although the Labour incumbent is far ahead. We also hear from the Greens' Sian Berry and Lib Dems' Luisa Porritt who are trying to pick up votes as the big day looms. And Ross tells us what happened when both Mr Khan and Mr Bailey asked to borrow his bike. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
This week my guest is the leader of the Green Party, Sian Berry. This is someone who sure knows what she is talking about when it comes to sustainability - and I am full of admiration for her - she felt compelled to do something and so she did! Loved talking to Sian, and hearing about her stories around clothes but also about what she would change if the Green Party came into power.
On 6 May, Londoners will elect their next Mayor. This week we're joined by Green Party's candidate for London Mayor, SIan Berry. Recorded just after the New Year for the Trees - Tu Bishvat - it was a good time to talk all things green. Sian tells us about her journey into politics, via about 30 other jobs - and what inspired her to ‘get ethical'. We talk about community - religious and otherwise - as well as memory; how do we ensure that the current Covid crises is not forgotten? And do we, as humans, have a tendency to deny things that we don't want to be happening? Will the changes that have arisen as a result of Covid, particularly in terms of travel, stick - or will we go back to our old ways?We also discuss the shift to online - is it a new leveller? Or does it just change the nature of access and equality? And we share tips about getting away from social media - or should we even be trying? The Coronavirus pandemic can be seen as a huge ecological warning: a sign that our footprint on planet Earth is becoming terribly unsustainable. And while that crisis continues to - rightly - dominate global headlines it is still rarely seen as the environmental crisis that it is. In the year that the UK will host COP26, the annual global climate conference in Glasgow, and following Joe Biden's victory in the United States, we ask whether campaigners can turn this to our advantage, and get the much more ambitious commitments we need? To answer this question and more hosts Zoe Williams and Luke Cooper are joined by Green Party co-leader, Sian Berry, to appraise the current state of the global climate emergency and what we need to do next.
Hmmm politics....I don't know about you but I think it's pretty easy to feel disengaged from politics - lots of (mostly) white, (mostly) men, working things for their own advantage and dragging their heels on stuff that would and could make a real difference. When it comes to the climate especially it feels like there's […] The post [086] ALL THINGS POLITICS WITH SIAN BERRY – CO-LEADER OF THE GREEN PARTY appeared first on Sustainable(ish).

The latest figures have painted a better picture for the U.K. economy. Is this a "Boris bounce" in action? Adam Blenford, editor of Bloomberg's Brexit Bulletin newsletter, and Dan Hanson, senior U.K. economist at Bloomberg Economics, join to discuss. And how do you take on a mayor who's been vocal on environmental issues? Sian Berry, Green candidate for Mayor of London, tells Bloomberg Westminster's Caroline Hepker and Sebastian Salek it's her party's pressure on Sadiq Khan that has delivered results for London. She says now it's time to "cut out the middle man".
This week, it’s the second in our mayoral walks mini-series. Sian Berry is the co-leader of the Green party, a member of the London Assembly, and is currently running as the party’s candidate to be mayor of the capital for the third time. A few weeks before Christmas, we spent a gloriously crisp winter afternoon together walking from Manor House station to Dalston together, a route chosen mostly because it took us along Green Lanes (geddit?). Along the way we talked about, among other things, air pollution, and how to fix it; how London can reform regeneration schemes so that they don’t screw over existing residents; and, something which Sian still has personal experience of, the capital’s private rental sector. We also ended our walk at a community “parklet” – a parking space, converted into a teeny, tiny park – and talked about how to take back space from cars.My next walk, all being well, will take place later this month, and will be with the man who inspired the whole project, Rory Stewart.Skylines is the podcast from CityMetric, the New Statesman's cities site. It's recorded and presented by Jonn Elledge and produced by Nick Hilton. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Rory Stewart likes to walk around London. So do I. And so, a few months ago, someone on Twitter gave me an idea for a fun wheeze: that we could walk together and turn it into a podcast. That walk will, hopefully, happen soon. But in the mean time I've been out and about with a number of the other candidates to be mayor of London. So this is the first of a mini-series. My companion on this walk, which took place last November, is the Liberal Democrat candidate Siobhan Benita. She took me to the Latin American market in Seven Sisters, which is currently under threat from developers, to talk about gentrification, housing, and all the things she'd hope to achieve as the mayor of this fine city. The next walk – though not necessarily the next episode – will see me wander through a different stretch of North London with the Green candidate and that party's co-leader, Sian Berry.Skylines is the podcast from CityMetric, the New Statesman's cities site. It's hosted by Jonn Elledge and produced by Nick Hilton. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
The co-leader of the Green Party joins Matt for a brilliant chat about the opportunities and risks for the Greens at this election as well as a great conversation about how they influence the powerful and the public in general. We talked to Sian Berry, co-leader of the Green Party of England and Wales, about the state of housing in the UK and the Green Party’s plans to secure it as a human right and transform it through a Green New Deal. Sian Berry has decades of campaigning and politics under her belt, from pushing for renters’ rights on the London Assembly to fighting the fight on a national level as the co-leader of the Green Party of England and Wales. Read the Green Party manifesto here: https://campaigns.greenparty.org.uk/manifesto Join the Green Party of England and Wales: https://join.greenparty.org.uk Produced by Seden Anlar & Julia Lagoutte - in collaboration with the Green Party of England and Wales.
Sian Berry is co-leader of the Green Party. The Greens have seen a rise in support at local and European elections, and polling experts say they’ve had success in attracting younger women voters. How do they plan to win further seats at Westminster and promote green policies in their manifesto? We ask Sian Berry what the Greens are offering women that other parties aren't. Liz Saville Roberts is Plaid Cymru’s leader at Westminster. She's wants to stop a New Deal Brexit, and her party has formed an electoral pact with the Lib Dems and the Greens. That means they're not going to stand against each other in certain seats. She's a supporter of the Unite to Remain Pact saying that it would be the “easiest thing under the sun” for all parties to “go back to the comforts of tribalism”. She tells us what her party is offering women in Wales. How do you raise multilingual children? And what happens when your first language isn't very common where you live? Language is one of those things that help you stay connected to your heritage but raising a child to speak two or more languages can be harder than it sounds. We hear from two Nigerian mums: one who speaks Igala and the other Yoruba. Women are facing “unacceptable barriers” to essential healthcare services. That's according to a new report published by the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists. Their survey of 3,000 plus women in the UK shows that many are struggling to access basic healthcare like contraception and menopause support. The Better for Women report says there needs to be a national strategy to meet the needs of girls and women throughout their life: from being a teenager, being middle-aged and then older. Professor Lesley Regan, President of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, joins us in the studio.

Sian Berry is a co-leader of the Green Party, a London Assembly Member and a local councillor in Camden. She talks to Jenny Jones about her success with getting the London Mayor to change his policies on housing and to lobby the government to change their policies. She is part of Generation Rent and has championed their issues, such as a rent cap. Sian's successes build on the sixteen years of practical changes achieved by Jenny and Darren when they were Green Party members of the London Assembly. This track record of success enabled both Jenny and Sian to come third in the Mayoral elections. Sian got the higest number of second preference votes and they discuss the prospect of a Labour vs Green run off in 2020.
