The Japanese equity market is behaving with all the decorum and rationality of someone dancing the Hokey Cokey at a family wedding at two in the morning. Economic fundamentals are not driving equity prices—no economic data justified yesterday's 12% plunge, nor today's 10% rally.
Mushrooms, mushrooms, mushrooms! How do you grow yours? Karin has some beautiful white oyster mushrooms ready to pick for a creamy pasta dinner. She's extended the mushroom theme throughout her plot like mycelium - she's now layering spores in her raised bed! Vicky's been moving her mushrooms like the Hokey Cokey around her plot with not very impressive results, unlike her 4 small perfectly formed cucumbers. So sorry people, the mic batteries started to fail so this episode is very short and sweet. Back next week with a monster episode as we have NEWS!

That's more like it, isn't it!? After weeks of talk surrounding David Moyes' negative style of play, which had stopped getting results, West Ham turned up at London Stadium on Monday night and put on a bit of a show. It wasn't perfect, not by any stretch, but we scored four goals and overall looked like we wanted to have a go at playing football for the first time in 2024. Every time we got the ball we looked like we wanted to make something happen, while out of possession we pressed well and put Brentford under pressure. That's the approach we've been crying out for! It was a much-needed victory and it puts us back in contention for a top-eight finish and potentially a fourth consecutive European qualification. If we play like we did against Brentford for the remainder of the season, we've got a huge chance of achieving what we were hoping for in the first-half of the campaign. Obviously, it appears that will likely rest on the fitness of Lucas Paqueta, who makes things tick in this team. It's no surprise we've failed to win a single game this season in which he hasn't featured. This week, we discuss the overall performance on Monday night, react to comments from listeners on the socials and then look ahead to the trip to Everton on Sunday. Also, we mentioned in the podcast that we both completed the London Winter Run 10k in support of Cancer Research last weekend. Donations are still open so if you would like to help us reach our £500 target, please click the following link. It would be very much appreciated!

In this week's episode of Scouser Tommies, Jim Boardman and Jay Reid try to get their heads around a mad 24 hours in Liverpool, after the Reds attempted to break the British transfer record only for a spanner in the works to reportedly try and mess it all up. At the time of recording nobody knew if the spanner would stop interfering and let the deal go through, or if the plastic rivals would be having flags printed to celebrate it as a victory, but it's victories on the pitch that matter most, and those same ‘rivals' are the first challenge for Klopp's side this new season. Has the boss done all he could to get the lads ready, not just for this game but for the long slog ahead? It's also a good time for predictions, but there's no saying the predictions are any good.Prefer to listen to our shows without the ads? Welcome to episode 172 of the Löw Tide Böyz - A Swimrun Podcast! In this show we are doing a course preview of the only U.K. ÖTILLÖ Merit race: The Precision Fuel and Hydration Hokey Cokey Swimrun Roseland. We seem to have backed into a cool theme for this month so we're just going to go with it. We asked Mad Hatter Sports Race Director, and former guest of the show, John Yelland to help us give you a comprehensive course preview of the race. Spoiler alert: it's a great one!Let's get right to it!Intro to Mad Hatter Sports and The Hokey Cokey SwimrunJohn was cool enough to share everything we needed to know about the event. His intro description of what athletes can expect on the course seemed very accurate as well: “holes, stones, trees, stumps, and steps.”Getting to Cornwall and the Roseland PeninsulaJohn shared with us how to best get to Cornwall and it's important to note that the area books up fast in the Summer so lock in your travel plans early. The base of operations is in Mevagissey and that town is about 250 miles from London-area airports. The RaceThe stats on the Roseland Swimrun is 36km with 28km of running and 8km of swimming over 21 total swim legs. The race has a SWIFA score of 23% which is pretty cool as well. (This is EX Swimrun's term for percentage of swimming in a Swimrun. Check out Episode 72 and 129 to hear all about it)John shared his leg by leg breakdown which, along with the online course map, really paints a solid picture of the adventure that awaits Swimrunners. As before, there's no sugar-coating that the race is a challenge…and that's why we like it!Our ThoughtsThis event is everything that is great about Swimrun. It was designed to offer a challenging experience, while taking advantage of the natural beauty and terrain of the Cornwall region. We love the attention that was paid to make this adventure what it is and think that this is a worthy ÖTILLÖ Merit race for those seeking to quality for The Swimrun World Championship.Make sure to check out the Mad Hatter Sports website and use the code LTB20 which is good for 20% off any of their Swimrun events. That's it for this week's show. Hello babies! Thanks for tuning into the show where, despite doing this show for over a decade, we still struggle to remember how we start the darn thing every time. On today's ep, Lisa gets her hands dirty and grows jealous of Emily's pergola. They both share some long awaited Love Island thoughts, and we dive into some relevant Martha-adjacent news on Chunch Chat. On Wiki of the Week, we read the Wikipedia page for "Hokey Pokey," also known as Hokey Cokey in the United Kingdom and the Caribbean, which is a campfire song and participation dance with a distinctive accompanying tune and lyric structure.
It has been a while, but Ritch Grove and Lee Brown try to get to grips with Conte situation. We also preview West Ham game.
MPC member Catherine Mann spoke yesterday of her fears that a more dovish view on inflation that she is seeing from her colleagues could see the Bank of England pause the current cycle of interest rate hikes, only to be forced to begin them again as inflation remains at its current high level. She believes that the tried and tested method of using data to spot turning points in the economy is being ignored due to the pressure being exerted on the Committee by the continuing cost of living crisis. She feels that rather than seeing the cost of living fall if short-term interest rate increases are paused, or halted altogether, the economy will still see a significant recession in the next year to fifteen months, but the high level of inflation will remain and drive further demands for inflation busting pay demands in the public sector. Furthermore, she went on to say that she remains mindful of the interest rates decisions being made by the country's G7 partners and the fact that rising inflation is an issue for the global economy that has arisen primarily as the world has exited the Pandemic. Mann acknowledged that there is a degree of interconnectedness between economies, particularly in the developed world, due primarily to the growth of digital communication and instant money transfers. Did you know that for the first time ever, the cost of filling up a tank of petrol for the average car is over £100? There is so much worry and uncertainty around the market at the minute, but we must always look at both the micro and the macro picture. Most people end up playing the wealth hokey-cokey; jumping into things when times look good due to FOMO and jumping straight out of things when times look tough, due to fear. Building wealth is about having a long term plan, not about reacting to market conditions that will always fluctuate.Tune in to hear Kevin and Christian talks about the dangers of playing the wealth hokey-cokey and how you can avoid it. A return to Talk Aboot where we swap stories, ideas, nonsense and I think a fact might have snuck into this episode.Album Recommendation of the Week: Chante Dylan - Hugues Aufray (1965) We kick off by talking about living through historic times and a moment of sincerity is reached before tuck shops are brought up. At which point our favourite childhood confectionary is the more heavily discussed topic. Don't worry though - it doesn't devolve into a full blown rankathon. Then Dougal tells us a great story about a suspicious musician. Then the lads each explain a strange quirk of theirs. Two part NHS Pensions podcast special. This week we will be discussing how two recent legal cases bought by Fire-fighters and Judges (McCloud and Sargeant), affects the NHS pension. If you haven't listened to last weeks episode on the basics of the NHS Pension scheme definitely listen to that first, unless you're already an expert. "In what circumstances would someone choose to go back to 1995 scheme?" "What about contingent decisions like the Hokey Cokey or opting out to reduce tax liabilities" "Would Rachael rather have her private pension or her partner(Doctors) NHS Pension" *****Spoiler alert***** - despite the complexities and issues, Rachael would LOVE to have an NHS Pension. Gavan's here to talk about his experience, how it's affected his outlook on the world, the top ten tips around how you can do it for yourselves, and the lessons that we can all collectively learn in order to better ourselves by taking that break. KEY TAKEAWAYS It may sound crazy, but taking a break from social media is as important a part of your social output as creating the content! If you're constantly posting, then taking a break is a way to revitalise interest. Make sure you take a break for the right reasons. If you're taking a break to regroup or work on something in the real world, then great! It'll make you stronger. If you're taking a break, make a clear statement to that effect. Remember not to make it a self-pitying declaration, but a simple, brief and positive farewell, with a promise that you'll be back soon. If you're going away to work on something big, then make sure you tell people that's what you're doing. Start the hype now! Start that breadcrumb trail now! Commit to it 100%! When you're on social media, make sure you're having an impact. If you're taking a break then commit to it and use the time to its full potential. Why not devote yourself to something SO big, that you have no choice but to leave social media for a while? Dream big, think big, and create like crazy! If you're not on social media, then swap something into its place in your life. Meditation is a great way of reconnecting with your mind and your senses. Let's get the creativity flowing. Make a podcast. Write something. Play a song. Engage! Get out there and do something to add to the positivity we all need right now. If you're spread across several different types of social media, think hard about how they're returning value to you. Double down on the ones that are the most valuable to you and think about cutting the others loose. BEST MOMENTS ‘Podcasting is like a traditional wireless' ‘Producers win and consumers lose' ‘I'm not trying to create a successful business. I'm trying to change the f**king world!' ‘I hope your granny's bunions are okay' 'Some of you lot are half-in, half-out like the Hokey-Cokey' ‘Go big or go home!' 'Success in life comes from doing something properly' ABOUT THE HOST Welcome to the Speed Mentor Podcast. Do you want success and abundance in your life?! Do you want to hear how to achieve it? No matter who we are, we all tend to take ourselves and our lives way too seriously... Even here at The Daily Hustle we often discuss one hard-hitting topic after another... That's why when I came across the third section of the late Chris Anderson's quotation celebration book, it immediately brought a smile to my face... The section: “Just Plain Silly.” There were so many good ones in here that it was tough to decide which one to dissect. I was leaning toward these two gems from Chris's favorite teacher, Mr. Stick... “Life is like a jar of jalapeños, you never know which one is going to burn your ass.” “Some people think the glass is half empty and others think the glass is half full... All I want to know is where my cheeseburger is.” Ultimately, I decided to go with Mr. Anonymous once again: “What if the Hokey Pokey really is what it's all about.”

It’s not been Arizona Coyotes year...or six, if you look back to the last time they made the playoffs. And with Seattle 2020 looming, will the team in Glendale survive a move from the Pacific to the Central Division? Howlin’ Hockey writer James Reeve joins us this week’s guest to tell us more about how the desert dogs’ season has started and what all these injuries are costing the team’s payroll. (Trust us: you’ll be horrified!) Plus infamous NHL debuts and the hokey cokey of being a goalie. Presented by Clare Freeman and Jolon Kemp Walker. Produced by ASFB Productions. Looks Unfamiliar is a podcast in which writer and occasional broadcaster Tim Worthington talks to a guest about some of the things that they remember that nobody else ever seems to. Joining Tim for a special Christmas edition is writer Stephen O'Brien, who's here to talk about little-heard eighties Christmas Singles including Hokey Cokey by The Snowmen, Jingle Bells Laughing All The Way by The Hysterics, What Are We Gonna Get 'Er Indoors by Dennis Waterman and George Cole, Oh Blimey It's Christmas by Frank Sidebottom, Christmas In Hollis by Run DMC, Old Fashioned Christmas by Anne Charleston And Ian Smith, and Do They Know It's Christmas, by Band Aid II?, not to mention Bing Crosby and David Bowie's stilted natter, Boris Gardiner's mercifully forgotten third single, and the thorny question of whether Keeping The Dream Alive by Freiheit is a Christmas Single or a load of old twaddle. Along the way we'll be hearing the World's Worst Jane Leeves Impression, revealing who wrote and sang the theme tune for The Quatermass Experiment, avoiding giving the actual official worst Christmas Present possible in the entirety of history, and finding out how to get accidentally mistaken for an extra in Neighbours. Where to start? It began so well. Sort of. We really wanted to work out the opposite of Helens, of Bubble Wrap, and of the Hokey Cokey. And for a while, we did. Then something happened, and it all went sideways. Apologies in advance. So, are we righ… No. This week, it’s just plain wrong.
In this episode, Michaela talks with Karen about her paper from the early 2000s that identified the contradictory ways in which Britons in Spain related to their new place of residence and the Spanish population. Such contradictions—on the one hand, the decidedly colonialist narratives, and on the other the openness to difference—were mirrored also in the ambivalence of the British and Britain towards Europe. Fast forward to Brexit, and these contradictions, in all their complexity, come once again to the fore. You can read more about this in Karen’s recent blog Doing the Hokey Cokey or get in touch if you want a copy of the original journal article we discuss in the episode.

Plus Clare Freeman, Simon Harris and Nick Barlow discuss the hokey cokey of last weekend's Sheffield Steelers penalty shoot out and attempt some kind of positive prediction for the weekend ahead with Fife Flyers and Nottingham Panthers.
