Yusuf argued that the UK is facing an invasion across the English Channel and questioned what the Royal Navy should be used for if not to protect the country's borders. The debate quickly turned into a heated clash over Reform UK's proposed immigration policy, with supporters arguing that tougher action is needed to tackle illegal Channel crossings, while critics questioned both the legality and practicality of deploying the Royal Navy in this way. The discussion explores the political divide over border security and whether Reform UK's approach could be implemented in practice.Labour MP for Chatham and Aylesford, Tris Osborne, strongly criticised Reform UK's plans, arguing that the party's proposals are "not rational" and would fail to deliver the outcomes they promise. #reformuk #ziayusuf #smallboats Keep up to date with GB News at gbnews.com or on X @GBNEWSBecome a Friend of GB News: gbnews.com/friend Hosted on Acast. January 2026. A blizzard is raging on Ben Nevis, the tallest peak in the Scottish Highlands — gale-force winds, sub-zero temperatures, and visibility of about one meter—when a climber becomes separated from his two friends near the summit, without crampons, a map, or a compass. What happens to him next comes down to solid blocks of ice, a bent walking pole, and a group of British and Dutch marines who chose that exact day, in that exact weather, to climb the highest mountain in Britain. Julie and Kaycee unravel how a body shuts down in extreme cold, why the rescue nearly stalled on the iced upper slopes, and what the marines built from the equipment on their backs when walking him down stopped being an option. And at the center of it all: a man whose name has never been made public—and a margin of survival measured in a single meter of white air. 00:44 Show Intro And Setup 01:09 Whiteout Near The Summit 03:35 Ben Nevis The Mountain Trap 07:06 Three Friends Enter The Storm 11:10 Marines Training In Blizzard 13:51 One Meter Discovery 18:35 Improvised Litter Rescue 26:09 Rewarming Below Snow Line 29:10 The Crux And Takeaways 29:54 Closing And Sign Off Listen AD FREE: Support our podcast at patreon: http://patreon.com/TheCruxTrueSurvivalPodcast Email us! thecruxsurvival@gmail.com Instagram https://www.instagram.com/thecruxpodcast/ Get schooled by Julie in outdoor wilderness medicine! https://www.headwatersfieldmedicine.com/ References: Royal Navy (official news release), “Marines save life of stranded climber on Ben Nevis,” January 30, 2026. royalnavy.mod.uk STV News, “Marines on training exercise save climber stranded in blizzard on Ben Nevis,” January 30, 2026. Care about independent and ethical news? Support Media Storm on Patreon! There are loosely three main funding models that make up our mainstream media. The first is public service models that are not run for profit, like the BBC, the second is donor-led journalism and the third is the big one – advertising. And we have the advertising model to thank for the acceleration of sensationalist, clickbait journalism. Because if you're selling adverts, you're selling your readers' attention. When news outlets have to meet advertiser-set traffic quotas, that creates a lot of pressure for quantity over quality. Digital journalists are often desk-bound, required to produce dozens of articles a day out of recycled online material, with no time to pursue quality investigations or seek out minority lived experience. And the more money a broadcaster or a paper are paid for advertising, the more they will do anything to get traffic to their channel or website.  So in comes dangerous media malpractices, like opinion masquerading as fact, sensationalism and scapegoating. This episode, we speak to Richard Wilson, founder of the Stop Funding Hate campaign. The pressure group, which is celebrating a decade this year, asks companies to stop advertising in - and therefore stop providing funds for - certain British news outlets who spread disinformation and hateful rhetoric. In the shorter term, following the efforts of Stop Funding Hate supporters, GB News has reportedly lost over £131 million. In the long term, they're building a movement which can make hate unprofitable for good, by tackling the systemic failures which currently make publishing hateful clickbait more lucrative than responsible journalism.   This episode is hosted and produced by Mathilda Mallinson (@mathildamall) and Helena Wadia (@helenawadia)  Edited by Toka Omer The music is by @soundofsamfire Follow us @mediastormpod Learn more about your ad choices. Religious fervour: the rise of faith or Cultural Christianity?

Lots of people are converting to Christianity and, across the country, church attendance is increasing. While the numbers vary, one survey shows the number of people attending church at least once a month is up from eight per cent in 2018 to 12 per cent in 2024. Perhaps most notably, the survey shows a quadrupling of attendance among Gen Zers, aged 18 to 24, from four per cent to 16 per cent. The story of modern society has often been told as a rise of secularism and atheism, but after the peak of new atheism in the early 2010s, trends are now reversing. From sold-out events on faith with musician Nick Cave and historian Tom Holland to a swath of new books on the place of god in society, there is public appetite for grappling with religion. Some argue that this is a ‘quiet revival' driven mainly by changing perceptions of religion and a collective search for meaning in modern societies that are increasingly individualistic and atomised. Others point to public figures like Jordan Peterson and Ayaan Hirsi Ali, for whom Christianity is part of a larger project to save Western civilisation. Others still argue that there is something distinct and more therapeutic about modern forms of Christian worship – more focused on introspection and personal development than community and morality. Some believers are uneasy about these more pragmatic justifications for faith. What is the driving force of the resurgence of Christianity? Is this emerging Christianity different from its traditional forms? Is the Christian revival political, or are people searching for meaning? Are we seeing a rise of true faith, or merely cultural Christianity? Is there a difference? Great Yarmouth MP Rupert Lowe is the newest disruptor in right-wing politics but the path he has taken to get there is a familiar one. Born in Oxford in 1957 Lowe attended an elite all boys boarding school before studying for a degree in Estate Management. After university he was a commodity broker in the City and went to Japan to work in securities but when British football clubs emerged as attractive financial assets in the 1990's he became chair of Southampton after a reverse takeover. Lowe resigned in 2006 after a decade in charge – having been blamed by many fans for relegation in 2005 after 27 years in the top flight. He made a return but resigned again in 2009 as the club's holding company went into administration.Next he decided to try his hand at politics. In 2019 Lowe became an MEP for the Brexit Party before switching to national politics after the UK left the EU in 2020, this time for Reform UK. In 2024 he became MP for Great Yarmouth but after falling out with Reform leader Nigel Farage he became an independent MP and launched his own party, Restore Britain.Production: Presenter: Becky Milligan Producers: Annabel Deas and Mhairi Mackenzie Production Coordinator: Maria Ogondele Sound: James Beard Editor: Justine LangCredits: @bedbox via YouTube, Rock Against Rupert - Rupert Lowe Michael Wilde out protest (1 February 2009) Channel 4, Reform UK infighting escalates as Farage and Lowe trade blows (9 March 2025) Channel 5 Vanessa, Is it wrong to put your pet down yourself? Mackerfield shows why Andy Burnham must lead Labour in the fight against the Radical RightNick Cohen gives a comprehensive analysis of the Makerfield by-election results from early Friday morning, where Andy Burnham emphatically defeated Nigel Farage's Reform Party, arguing this victory represents both an opportunity and a significant challenge for the Labour Party.Nick criticises the unprecedented propaganda campaign against Keir Starmer, including claims about a racist police incident and allegations of abuse, which Nick attributes to foreign interference led by Donald Trump's administration and supported by figures like Elon Musk and J.D. Vance.Nick criticises the Labour government's failure to properly deal wth far right propaganda, or even enforce the Ofcom rules that are constantly flouted by GB News, little more than a voice for Reform. Nick warns that Burnham would face steep learning curves on foreign policy issues, particularly regarding defence spending and relations with America, and emphasises the need for Labour to develop a clear "theory of victory" to address why Starmer became so unpopular despite relatively successful policy outcomes on inflation and immigration control. The HelloFresh Controversy Reveals A Bigger Problem A Pride Month social media post from HelloFresh has sparked outrage, backlash, boycotts, and endless debate. Was it a bad joke? Probably. But the reaction to it may reveal something much bigger about where we are as a society in 2026. After spending 30 minutes discussing the controversy on GB News in the UK, one thing became clear: the conversation isn't really about HelloFresh. It's about LGBTQ visibility, Pride Month, and why so many people are still uncomfortable when queer people are included in mainstream culture. Meanwhile, Elon Musk and Donald Trump continue to push claims and conspiracies that dominate headlines. But are Americans still listening? Why is every election called “rigged” when one side loses and “fair” when the other side wins? And a new poll raises a troubling question: Is American exceptionalism fading? Fewer Americans than ever believe the United States stands above the rest of the world. What happened to the confidence that once defined the country, and what does it say about our future? In this episode, Karel connects the dots between culture wars, political outrage, conspiracy thinking, and a changing America struggling to define itself.
