Nigel Farage could "pick up the phone" and speak to Donald Trump about relations between the US and UK if he wanted to - but he has to focus on building Reform UK, one of his key allies has said.Gerry Gunster, the founder and chief executive of Washington-based Gunster Strategies Worldwide, told Chopper's Political Podcast that relations between the pair were strong. His comments come amid speculation that the relationship might have soured after Farage did not witness in person Trump's swearing in Washington in January.Farage told GB News this week that he had not spoken to Trump since he became President in January as he did not want to cut across formal links between London and Washington. However Gunster said: "If Nigel Farage wanted to pick up the phone and get hold of the president of the United States, he would do it. "Nigel is not one of those guys that is going to do something like that unless it is of the utmost importance, because Nigel has a job to do to build this Reform party. "And the President of the United States, as you can see, has his job to do. I don't think that the fact that there hasn't been any 'talks with each other' means anything."This week, Christopher Hope is also joined by Labour MP Jake Richards to discuss digital IDs, as well as Rory Cellan-Jones who discusses his battle with Parkinson's. Award-winning journalist and author Nelson Aspen announces the release of his new historical fantasy, "Kindred Spirits: A Titanic Tale" (March 18, 2025 / $15.99).  Inspired by his own metaphysical connections to a lost TITANIC passenger, Aspen will celebrate the publication as part of the 113th anniversary commemoration during "Titanic Weekend," aboard the world famous RMS Queen Mary in Long Beach, California (April 12 - 14). Author, Nelson Aspen, will be joined by other Titanic authors, historians, experts and collectors.     Nelson's TITANIC knowledge has made him a sought after speaker on the subject for TV, radio, print and online outlets. As a showbiz presenter in addition to his Titanic expertise, Nelson is often engaged for commentary & analysis on any aspect of Titanic-mania and will be a special guest speaker on January's maiden voyage of Cunard's most anticipated new luxury liner, QUEEN ANNE. Inspired by the author's personal experiences, "Kindred Spirits: A Titanic Tale" spans time between the night in 1912 when Titanic met her tragic fate and the hedonistic party scene of modern Manhattan.  This is a story of love and redemption denied to gay men by the constraints of the Edwardian world into which they were born.  From rubbing elbows with the "Unsinkable" Molly Brown, John Jacob Astor and other iconic figures from the so-called Ship of Dreams to metropolitan globe-trotting in an effort to unravel the mystery of their metaphysical connection, our two heroes are Kindred Spirits.   Want to watch: YouTube Meisterkhan Pod (Please Subscribe)

Watching them eat themselves, it occurs to the Trawl ladies, that maybe, just maybe the UK media gives them all far too much credence. After that Jemma and Marina discuss Labour's latest announcements concerning benefits, including disability benefits and PIP specifically. The fact they're going after the most vulnerable in society feels disgusting to them and the way they're going about it is pure Tory. Tucker Carlson has been at the center of several significant developments recently. One of the most notable incidents involves U.S. Representative Dan Crenshaw, who was caught on a hot mic allegedly threatening to 'kill' Tucker Carlson. During an interview with GB News at the ARC Conference in the UK, Crenshaw criticized Carlson's comments on the U.S. sending $100 billion to Ukraine. In a post-interview conversation, Crenshaw was heard saying he would "f****** kill him" if he ever met Carlson, though he later denied making a serious threat on social media. This exchange has sparked reactions from other public figures. U.S. House Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene questioned Crenshaw about the threat, and Elon Musk also commented on the incident, prompting Carlson to invite Crenshaw for an interview.Apart from this controversy, Tucker Carlson continues to be active in his post-Fox News ventures. He is in the process of establishing a new media company with former White House adviser Neil Patel, aiming to raise hundreds of millions of dollars to fund the project. This new venture will utilize Twitter as a key platform, where Carlson will post videos, including monologues, interviews, and documentaries, with extended versions available behind a paywall through a subscription service.Carlson is also set to embark on his "Tucker Carlson Live Tour," which includes a stop at the Footprint Center on September 4, 2024, with special guest Russell Brand. This tour will feature discussions on current events and hosting recognizable guests.Recently, Carlson made headlines with an interview of Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow, where Putin addressed various geopolitical issues, including the conflict in Ukraine and the involvement of the U.S. and NATO. This interview has sparked significant discussion and debate, highlighting Carlson's ability to engage with high-profile individuals on major global issues. There have been no recent reports of legal or professional developments specifically involving Carlson since his exit from Fox News. However, his ongoing media ventures and public appearances continue to generate considerable attention and debate within the media and political spheres, underscoring his enduring influence on media and politics.Thank you for listening to the Tucker Carlson news tracker podcast. Time for another weekly news debrief: we pick apart the most unhinged headlines and try to make sense of the mainstream media, helping you consume the news critically. The UK agreed to hand the Chagos Islands “back” to Mauritius. But colonial history makes this decision complicated - and crucially, Chagossians were excluded from the discussions… much like Ukraine this week, who were left out of US-Russia peace negotiations. This news made every front page, except for the Daily Mail who wrote about wokeness and the Daily Star who wrote about... sausages. Other stories we cover: more than 65,000 people have complained to Ofcom over a GB News comment comparing queerness to (prepare yourself) paedophilia. We discuss this record-breaking number, and the doubled-down defence of the presenter. And finally, why anti-migrant sentiment led to Sweden's worst mass shooting - and whether the media does a better job at reporting crises, or creating them. For years, Westminster has been addicted to Twitter (now called X). Host Sascha O'Sullivan looks at how the site – and SW1's reliance on it – has changed since tech billionaire Elon Musk took over. Sascha talks to Charlie Peters, journalist at GB News, whose story about grooming gangs was amplified by Musk before going on to dominate Britain's news cycle for a fortnight. She compares how the same story was covered originally by freelance journalist Julie Bindel, who exposed the extent of the grooming gangs in 2007, in a world before social media was so prevalent.  Labour MP Emily Thornberry and chair of the foreign affairs select committee reflects on going viral for the wrong reasons and subsequently resigning in 2014. She explains how politicians' use of social media has changed since then, subject to algorithms that favour right-wing content.  And Sascha takes a deep dive into how Nigel Farage has harnessed the power of going viral for decades – all the way back to his days as an MEP. She speaks to his former comms chief Gawain Towler and social media journalist Sophia Smith Galer – and asks whether the left needs to raise its game when it comes to mastering social media.  Learn more about your ad choices. Recorded at the Battle of Ideas festival 2024 on Saturday 19 October at Church House, Westminster. ORIGINAL INTRODUCTION Smartphones have become almost ubiquitous in modern society. The rise of social-media services, which have billions of users worldwide, has gone hand in hand with the use of smartphones. Few technologies have seen such rapid adoption. With concerns about several social problems coming to the fore in recent years, a variety of commentators have pointed to this new technology as an important cause. But in this case, does correlation really equal causation? One problem is how we discuss social and political issues. Social media has democratised political debate. But that debate seems increasingly polarised and toxic, with social media being blamed by many for the summer riots in the UK and Elon Musk being the target of hatred from some for his relatively liberal approach to posts on X/Twitter. The rise of AI, particularly the ease of making ‘deep fakes', has complicated matters further, making it harder for voters to figure out what candidates really believe or potentially stirring up conflict – as illustrated by fake audio of London's mayor, Sadiq Khan, earlier this year. There are also worries – most prominently expressed by Professor Jonathan Haidt – that spending so much time looking at devices has damaged children's mental health, sense of independence and concentration spans. High-profile head teacher Katherine Birbalsingh has caused controversy by banning smartphones from the classrooms at Michaela School in London, a trend now mirrored in state-wide bans on smartphones in schools in some parts of America. But do such concerns over-inflate the importance of technology? For example, one worry is the decline of children's independent play and travel – but this has been a trend for decades in much of the West, leading to debates about ‘cotton wool' kids. Haidt himself has pointed to this as part of the problem. Declining mental health, for children and adults, has also been a concern for many years, but how much of it is new and how much is a result of expanding definitions of mental illness is unclear. Is new technology really responsible for these social trends – or is it mere coincidence? What else might explain these changes – and what should we do about to tackle such problems?
