This time we're heading to the Sabi Sands and Kruger in South Africa for the safari of a lifetime! In the Kruger area, I saw more prides of lion than I ever have anywhere else, and in the Sabi Sands had ultra-close up encounters with leopard.  On this trip, I also visited all of Singita's South Africa lodges, including Ebony Lodge, Boulders, Lebombo, and Sweni. I reveled in my private plunge pool, was stunned by the decor and gorgeous pops of color, thoroughly enjoyed the strong cocktails, and of course stood inspired by Singita's amazing guides and team members.  Since I'm in the field for this episode vs. sitting in the studio, you'll hear some of the sounds of an actual game drive and enjoy conversations with one of our extremely accomplished wildlife guides, the cooking school chef, and Singita's K9 anti-poaching expert.  We discuss so much in this episode from crazy wildlife stories, to Nelson Mandela, to becoming one of Africa's first female guides, to giving back to the community. I hope you enjoy this very special episode of Luxury Travel Insider.    Thank you to our sponsor for this episode, Covac Global.   Learn more at www.luxtravelinsider.com   Connect with me on Social: Instagram LinkedIn

This time I'm taking you to Singita's Pamushana Lodge in remote, Southeast Zimbabwe. Perched high on a sandstone ridge, overlooking a shimmering lake full of hippos, this is one of the most inspirational safari destinations I have ever had the privilege of visiting.  The lodge is set on the Malilangwe Reserve which is now famous for its rhino and ecological conservation efforts, its absolutely awe inspiring anti-poaching team, and of course the world class service of Singita.  Since I'm in the field for this episode vs. sitting in the studio, you'll hear some of the sounds of an actual game drive, and enjoy an authentic conversation with our accomplished guide Tengue and the Lodge Manager, Valerie. Bruce and his wife Cate then moved to Seychelles and spent four years as General Manager on the new North Island followed after which Bruce moved to Namibia to take on the role of CEO of Wilderness Safaris' in Namibia. Bruce focused on restructuring and reorganising the business of 14 lodges, a travel shop and air charter business, pioneering ground breaking joint venture partnerships with rural communities. *THIS EPISODE WAS RECORDED PRIOR TO THE OUTBREAK OF COVID-19* Bruce Simpson's current position is CEO of Time + Tide, a collection of luxury lodges in Zambia and Madagascar. Prior to this, over a nearly 30 year career he has held a multitude of positions within Wilderness Safaris, Singita, &Beyond and North Island in the The Seychelles, starting as a guide and ending up as a CEO. Bruce's knowledge of Southern African tourism is almost unparalleled, not only has he run lodges across the bottom of the continent, but he has also lived in Namibia, Botswana, The Seychelles and his native South Africa. Peter and Bruce discuss how the tourism industry in Africa has evolved over the last 30 years, the importance of environmental and cultural sustainability, where Bruce sees as the next up-and-coming destinations in Africa and what it's like to come face to face with a herd of elephants in the bush, among many other things.
