Welcome to episode 067 of the Green Healthy Places podcast, in which we explore the themes of wellbeing and sustainability in real estate and hospitality. I'm you host Matt Morley and in this episode in in my home town of Barcelona, Spain talking to Guy Morley, no relation.Guy is the Co-Founder of Upraising an organic coffee brand powered by nootropics and adaptogens (we'll get to what these terms mean shortly). He previously built the iced tea brand Kailani and before that worked as a music and entertainment lawyer in London, UK.So before I bring Guy in, let me establish some context here. The health and wellness industry has been witnessing a paradigm shift in recent years. As more people become conscious of their overall wellbeing, inside and out, mental and physical, mind-body and spirit, the demand for hospitality concepts tailored to this shift to a quasi biohacking approach is slowly becoming more mainstream. One such innovation is the emergence of a new breed of performance health bar, a unique wellness concept that focuses on offering a diverse range of health-promoting products and services. The objective here is very specific:1/ to help clients prep themselves for performance2/ assist them in maintaining performance whilst in action3/ promote recovery post activity, helping them get back out there, ready to go one more time. The future of health bars in my opinion lies in incorporating cutting-edge ingredients and technologies, combined with biophilic design, to create a holistic wellness experience maximized for its positive impact on overall health. This includes the use of adaptogenic mushrooms, nootropics, supplements, and nutritious beverages to support various aspects of health.Additionally, the adoption of sustainable and eco-friendly interior design practices, such as biophilic design and a strict sustainable, non-toxic materials policy in the fit-out, ensures the aesthetic context is aligned with the concept. ensuring the health bar has been maximized for its wellbeing properties.Today, I am joined by a man on the forefront of creating the type of functional beverage products that will, I believe, come to populate this new generation of wellness bar concepts that I'm betting represent the future of F&B offerings at premium boutique fitness studios, health clubs and wellness oriented members clubs.Guy thanks for joining us on the podcast!

The link to that study is in the show notes. In this discussion though, we're looking at green care and the benefits of nature exposure for seniors in care homes, different types of natural settings and how they ca impact our mental wellbeing, social exercise vs solo exercise and of course more on the green exercise theme.Mike has a conspicuously well trained mind, he is able to handle multiple threads in an argument simultaneously, seamlessly nudging various arguments forward, piece by piece, making it I believe a remarkably easy conversation to follow despite the academic depth and obvious rigor that lies behind his thoughts. If you enjoy the show, hit like or subscribe, my contact details are in the show notes too, now here's Dr. Mike Rogerson.Dr Mike Rogerson: https://www.essex.ac.uk/people/roger41600/mike-rogerson University of Essex, Green Exercise Research: https://www.essex.ac.uk/research-projects/green-exerciseMatt Morley / Wellbeing Champion: https://www.mattmorley.net/Biofit research study: https://biofit.io/research

We lose touch with the sounds, the beauty and the essence of nature in cities and that's potentially problematic for our mental health. his latest initiative crafting biophilic sounds for interior spacesIf you're able to find time and space to consciously listen, then you will receive added health benefits in the same way that you might from meditation practice for example. GUEST / BRIAN D'SOUZAhttps://openearmusic.com/soundwellness/https://www.swellstudio.io/https://www.ambientflo.com/ HOST / MATT MORLEYhttps://www.mattmorley.net/ https://biofilico.com/https://biofit.io/

I'm your host, Matt Morley, Founder of Biofilico Healthy Buildings and this episode I'm in Sweden talking to Fredrik Tunberg, CEO of Sally R, a cloud-based intelligent ventilation solution that uses algorithms to optimize indoor air quality while reducing overall energy consumption related to the HVAC system. We discuss how buildings have traditionally had to make guesstimates about how much ventilation they will need, and then applies a blanket approach throughout the day, throughout the building, whereas the latest technology, sensors and IOT enabled software completely changes the game, opening up opportunities for far more tailored, efficient and cost effective solutions. Which is essentially what Sally R do. As Fredrik points out, high quality indoor air does not need to cost more, quite the opposite in fact, once you can see the air in a building and map that against usage data, and feedback from a network of air quality monitors, it's a complete game changer that also saves on energy use in the process. Finally, they are also getting into Carbon capture in indoor farms, but I'll Fredrik explain that part.

It's like a biodiversity parameter for a healthy environment. In response to climate change, landscape architects have to design with nature, not against it.We did a study of the bird species of the area and their migration behavior then designed a rooftop with plant communities suitable for those nesting birds.Nature is complex, vivid, random, diverse...With our designs we want to bring back wild, uncontrolled nature into our cities - it's much better for the soul.GUEST / JORDI BARRI / BARRI STUDIO BARCELONAhttps://barristudio.com/ https://www.instagram.com/barri.studio/ HOST / MATT MORLEY / WELLBEING CHAMPIONhttps://www.mattmorley.net/https://biofilico.com/https://biofit.io/
