Recent regulatory changes, aimed at protecting retail investors, are expected to hit brokerages hard. Abhinaba Saha delves into these new rules and their potential impact on both brokerages and retail investors.India's National Medical Commission (NMC), responsible for overseeing medical education, is grappling with internal conflicts among its four autonomous boards. Poor coordination has led to the cancellation of several public notices, prompting the NMC to seek intervention from the Union health ministry, sources told Mint's Priyanka Sharma. The issue came to light when the boards issued conflicting decisions while reviewing applications from medical colleges. In one instance, a college was penalized by one board while another approved an increase in its seat capacity. This inconsistency is raising alarm, especially in the wake of recent controversies, such as the NEET exam paper leak.Radisson Hotel Group is rapidly expanding its footprint in India, capitalizing on opportunities in both major cities and growing smaller towns. Nikhil Sharma, Radisson's managing director for India, told Varuni Khosla that while the country has 200,000 branded hotel rooms, there's still a significant gap between supply and demand. This imbalance is driving Radisson's aggressive growth strategy, which includes tapping into religious tourism markets with new properties in Ayodhya and Vrindavan. This move is part of a larger strategy that has already placed Radisson ahead of competitors like IHG and Hilton in India, with its 115 hotels generating around ₹4,000 crore in revenue. The group, which manages brands like Radisson Blu and Park Inn, has 80 more hotels under development as part of its broader expansion plan.The telecom department is exploring a major policy shift by potentially waiving the requirement for telcos to deposit bank guarantees for spectrum acquired before 2022. The move is part of the broader reforms in the telecom sector. Starting in 2024, companies will no longer need to provide these guarantees under the new rules. The potential waiver is backed by precedents set in 2017, when the government extended the payment period for spectrum purchases from 10 to 16 years and reduced interest on penalties.The recent wave of harassment allegations in the movie industry reveals that little has changed in Hindi, Bengali, and Malayalam cinema. Lata Jha highlights that this misconduct manifests in various ways, including demands for sexual favours, unwarranted attention on and off sets, unequal pay, and inadequate facilities for women's hygiene. The Hema committee report reinforced what many in the industry already knew—widespread misbehaviour and misconduct remain pervasive. On today's episode, Dennis is joined again by with RET. Delta Force Operator and Founder of Blue Bearing Solutions, Kyle Morgan. Kyle is the Founder & CEO at Blu Bearing Solutions & for the past 20 years, he's served our country by fighting with elite special operations units in the harshest environments. He strived for excellence in everything he did and discovered that he thrives at leading cross-functional teams, creating inclusion, and making critical decisions under extreme stress. Kyle has been at the frontlines of every American kinetic conflict since 9/11.  Starting as an infantryman in Iraq in 2003, then as a Special Forces Green Beret, and for the last 11 years as a Special Operator within the Army's 1st SFOD-D Combat Applications Group, where he led and managed elite teams that specialize in hostage rescue.   Of all his experiences in the Service, one of the most challenging days was reacting to an attack while deployed as a Special Operations Advisor to the US Embassy in Bamako, Mali. His mission was to be a military advisor to the US Ambassador. This deployment had him engaging high-level State Department officials wearing a suit daily. Nothing about this was kinetic, but without regard for his safety, he ran towards the sounds of gunfire and relied on the training he had up to that point; Kyle formed a small team and led them to intervene in this horrendous terrorist attack on the Radisson Blu hotel in Bamako, Mali on 20 November 2015. Hundreds of innocent civilians were being held, hostage. This attack claimed the lives of twenty-three innocent civilians, including one American citizen.  This attack challenged him physically, mentally, and spiritually. Physically they were in control, and he had to fight on their terms. Mentally he had no time to prepare for what unfolded. Spiritually the evil that transpired and he witnessed was disgusting. This was the longest day of Kyle's life. That pushed his personal & professional abilities to new heights. He'll always be grateful for the personal development that happened during those very long and frustrating days that followed.  Blu Bearing Solutions is the culmination of his career in the military. They spoke ahead of World MS Day which is set to take place on Tuesday 30th of May. Shirley described her battle with multiple sclerosis and highlighted the way in which her MS diagnosis altered her life. John looked ahead to the upcoming World MS Day information fair that is taking place on Tuesday May 30th in the Radisson Blu in Limerick. He described the information stands that will be present on the night which will cover finance, Benefits & entitlements, personal transport & driving, employment & training, housing, migrants and advocacy. The aim of the day is to bring the MS community together to share stories and raise awareness regarding multiple sclerosis. On today's episode, Dennis speaks with RET. Delta Force Operator and Founder of Blue Bearing Solutions, Kyle Morgan. Kyle is the Founder & CEO at Blu Bearing Solutions & for the past 20 years, he's served our country by fighting with elite special operations units in the harshest environments. He strived for excellence in everything he did and discovered that he thrives at leading cross-functional teams, creating inclusion, and making critical decisions under extreme stress. Kyle has been at the frontlines of every American kinetic conflict since 9/11.  Starting as an infantryman in Iraq in 2003, then as a Special Forces Green Beret, and for the last 11 years as a Special Operator within the Army's 1st SFOD-D Combat Applications Group, where he led and managed elite teams that specialize in hostage rescue.   Of all his experiences in the Service, one of the most challenging days was reacting to an attack while deployed as a Special Operations Advisor to the US Embassy in Bamako, Mali. His mission was to be a military advisor to the US Ambassador. This deployment had him engaging high-level State Department officials wearing a suit daily. Nothing about this was kinetic, but without regard for his safety, he ran towards the sounds of gunfire and relied on the training he had up to that point; Kyle formed a small team and led them to intervene in this horrendous terrorist attack on the Radisson Blu hotel in Bamako, Mali on 20 November 2015. Hundreds of innocent civilians were being held, hostage. This attack claimed the lives of twenty-three innocent civilians, including one American citizen.  This attack challenged him physically, mentally, and spiritually. Physically they were in control, and he had to fight on their terms. Mentally he had no time to prepare for what unfolded. Spiritually the evil that transpired and he witnessed was disgusting. This was the longest day of Kyle's life. That pushed his personal & professional abilities to new heights. Joshua erzählt auf der Fuckup:Studienabbruch @Sachsen-Anhalt, dass sein Biologiestudium an der MLU in Halle ihn schnell desillusionierte: ihm fehlte die Begleitung durch den Modul-Dschungel, das selbstständige Arbeiten fiel ihm schwer und er merkte schnell, dass es danach kaum reale Jobchancen für ihn gibt. Er fokussierte sich mehr auf seine Nebenjobs in der Gastronomie und gründete ehrenamtlich einen gemeinnützigen Verein für Jugendliche. Als ihm bewusst wird, dass er kaum noch Motivation hat in die Uni zu gehen, holt er sich Hilfe bei der allgemeinen Studienberatung und der Agentur für Arbeit. Durch die Beratungsgespräche wurde ihm klar, dass er sein Hobby zum Beruf machen möchte: Er bricht sein Studium ab und fängt eine Ausbildung zum Veranstaltungskaufmann im Radisson Blu in Merseburg an. Heute ist Joshua Personalleiter im Club Flower 2.0. Ohne sein Ehrenamt und die unterstützende Beratung wäre er nicht da, wo er heute beruflich steht. Cet événement de référence a été l'occasion pour de nombreux acteurs de la protection des données de rencontrer les acteurs économiques de l'Afrique particulièrement soucieux de renforcer leurs politiques de lutte et de prévention contre les risques de cyberattaques. Dans les allées de l'hôtel Radisson Blu d'Abidjan, en Côte d'Ivoire, se bousculent entrepreneurs, banquiers et experts des outils numériques. Avec des cyberattaques de plus en plus sophistiquées, la défense digitale devient désormais incontournable. Premier problème : les organisateurs du forum estiment à seulement 20% les pays africains ayant adopté un cadre légal pour déjouer cette cybercriminalité. Pour Fabrice Zapfack, directeur technique de data354, cabinet de conseil en gestion de données, la sensibilisation sur la question doit s'accélérer. « La plupart des entreprises et organisations voient la protection des données sous l'angle de la conformité. Pour eux, c'est plus une contrainte qu'autre chose. La protection des données peut être un accélérateur, car elle amène les organisations à se poser les bonnes questions. » L'expert reste optimiste au vu des entreprises en pleine transformation digitale, pouvant tirer vers le haut le marché de la protection cyber. Comme Orange, très présente sur le territoire. Le directeur général d'Orange Bank Africa, Jean-Louis Menann-Kouamé, insiste sur trois piliers : la prévention, la rapidité de réaction et le contrôle régulier. « Il y a quelques pays qui font l'effort d'avoir des institutions spécialisées dans la formation. C'est le cas de la Côte d'Ivoire, du Sénégal, du Congo ou encore du Gabon. C'est bien que ces pays aient des écoles de cybersécurité, mais il serait mieux qu'elles soient régionales, voire continentales et que les meilleures pratiques y soient enseignées. » La prise de conscience se répand, mais lentement. Moins d'1 % du PIB africain est alloué à la défense numérique, selon Yakhya Diop, directeur technique de l'entreprise sénégalaise de cybersécurité CCDOC. Pour lui, l'Afrique n'est pas à niveau, mais n'est pas en retard pour autant : « On n'est pas en retard, car on a plus d'intellectuels, on a plus de jeunes. On va profiter pour les former très jeunes, leur faire comprendre que c'est le futur. On va leur parler de blockchain, de bitcoins, d'intelligence artificielle. Toutes ces données doivent être étudiées en cybersécurité pour qu'elles soient mieux protégées. » Une cybersécurité dont le marché s'élevait à 2 milliards de dollars en 2020.

Et pourtant, les professionnels tentent de redorer l'image des métiers Pour preuve, cette initiative du Club Hôtelier Lyonnais, qui fédère quelques 80 hôtels (grandes enseignes ou indépendants quel que soit leur taille et leur standing). Le CHL a organisé au Radisson Blu (au Crayon) ses premiers Trophées : non pas pour récompenser une quelconque performance des enseignes, mais pour mettre en valeur et récompenser le savoir-faire et le savoir-être des collaborateurs. Et ce, dans 4 catégories : réceptionniste, service des étages, cuisinier et serveur en salle. Parmi les primés, nous avons rencontré Fares Tighrine qui officie en cuisine au Novotel Lyon Confluence 13 collaborateurs et collaboratrices d'hôtels ont été primés lors de cette soirée. Les professionnels de l'hôtellerie entendent bien revaloriser leurs métiers réputés difficiles. Nous avons rencontré Frédéric Noblet, qui dirige le Novotel Ibis de Gerland et qui est aussi le président du Club Hôtelier Lyonnais. Le groupe Accor affiche, à lui seul, un déficit de 2000 collaborateurs en France. Certains employés ont tout simplement changé de métiers durant la crise Covid. En visite au SIRHA en septembre, Macron avait annoncé une défiscalisation des pourboires payés en carte bleue. Pas sûr que cette mesure suffise à relancer la profession...

Il y a 5 ans jour pour jour, au Bataclan et aux terrasses de cinq brasseries parisiennes, 130 personnes étaient tuées dans la vague d'attentats la plus meurtrière de l'histoire de France. Aujourd'hui, à l'heure où la polémique sur les caricatures du prophète Mahomet provoque des manifestations anti-françaises dans le monde arabo-musulman, comment protéger la France de ceux que le Président Macron appelle les « terroristes islamistes » ? Pierre Conesa a été haut fonctionnaire au ministère français de la Défense et publie, chez Robert Laffont, « Avec Dieu, on ne discute pas ». RFI : Pourquoi la France semble être une cible privilégiée des islamistes radicaux depuis 2015 ? Pierre Conesa : Moi, je me démarque un peu de cette analyse que je trouve spécifiquement française parce qu’on ne tient pas compte de ce qui s’est passé dans les autres pays occidentaux, en particulier en Europe, et qu’on ne cumule pas les tentatives d’attentats ratés ou arrêtés par la police et les attentats commis, c’est-à-dire que, quand on compare ces statistiques qui sont le véritable bilan, le thermomètre de l’activisme salafiste jihadiste, on s’aperçoit que la France n’est pas plus visée que d’autres. C’est vrai que Londres, Bruxelles, d’autres grandes capitales ont été touchées, mais tout de même : janvier 2015, novembre 2015, juillet 2016 et les derniers attentats de cet automne, cela fait beaucoup, non ? Cela fait beaucoup, de toute façon cela fait trop. Pour la série 2015, il faut évidemment tenir compte du fait que la position de la France dans la guerre en Syrie et en Irak est une aberration stratégique que Chirac avait réussi à arrêter quand il y a eu l’invasion de l’Irak, mais ses deux successeurs ont suivi le processus américain et les États-Unis sont beaucoup moins exposés que la France ou que les pays européens parce que, aux États-Unis, la population musulmane est très faible. Donc ce bilan critique, il fallait aussi le faire à l’égard de notre diplomatie, de notre posture militaire. Rappelez-vous, les types du Bataclan qui tiraient sur la foule disaient : « Vous tuez des enfants chez nous, on vient tuer des enfants chez vous ». Ce bilan critique, il n’a pas été fait. Le 16 octobre, à Conflans-Sainte-Honorine près de Paris, un professeur, Samuel Paty, est décapité pour avoir montré des caricatures du prophète Mahomet. Et le 22 octobre, le président Macron promet de continuer à défendre le droit à la caricature, d’où une levée de boucliers dans un certain nombre de pays musulmans où sont lancés des appels au boycott des produits français. Est-ce que tout cela vous surprend ? Non, cela ne me surprend pas. Vous avez effectivement cette campagne de boycott des produits français, lancée par Erdogan… Le président turc, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan… Le président turc. En fait, c’est l’individu qui vient de transformer Sainte Sophie, que l’État turc avait considéré comme un musée, en mosquée, et qui vient de tenir le premier rite musulman dans une autre église cette fois orthodoxe, et c’est cet individu-là qui nous dit qu’on est islamophobes. C’est quand même prodigieux. Ensuite se pose un problème que vous évoquez, pourquoi cette capacité à s’enflammer ? Vous n’avez quasiment pas de démocratie dans le monde arabe. Le seul pays qui s’en rapproche, c’est la Tunisie et peut-être un peu le Maroc, un peu l’Algérie. Ce sont les pays dans lesquels la réaction a été la plus prudente parce que, dans tous les pays qui n’ont pas de légitimité politique, qui sont des dictatures etc., ils ont retrouvé dans l’islam une espèce de ressort de légitimité, ils se positionnent donc sur une espèce de ligne de défense absolue de l’islam pour ne pas risquer de se faire critiquer par les islamistes. Oui, mais tout de même, ce qui est frappant, c’est le nombre de manifestations dans des pays qui ne sont pas des dictatures, je pense par exemple au Pakistan, au Mali -cela s’est passé à Tombouctou-, au Sénégal où il y a eu une manifestation à Dakar… Oui, mais cela dit, prenons les pays les uns derrière les autres. Le Pakistan, c’est le deuxième ou troisième pays touché par les attentats terroristes quand on regarde le recensement international ; c’est un pays qui est profondément divisé. C’est peut-être une démocratie formellement, mais il y a une zone que le régime d’Islamabad a totalement abandonnée aux islamistes. Le Mali, c’est prodigieux : Mahmoud Dicko, le patron des musulmans du Mali, est un ancien de l’université islamique de Médine [Arabie saoudite]. Il fait partie de ces 30 000 commissaires politiques qui ont été créés par l’université islamique de Médine depuis une trentaine d’années, moi j’en parle dans mon livre sur le « docteur Saoud » [Dr Saoud et Mr Djihad : La diplomatie religieuse de l'Arabie saoudite]. Et ces gens-là ont été formés en Arabie saoudite à la propagation du wahhâbisme salafiste. Quand vous vous retrouvez avec un individu comme celui-là dans un pays où vous êtes sollicité par les autorités pour arrêter la descente des salafistes, et que cet individu par exemple ne veut pas reconnaitre la responsabilité de ces gens-là dans l’attentat du Radisson Blu [de Bamako en 2015] et va rendre la colonisation responsable de cet attentat, on se dit quand même qu’on a laissé faire beaucoup de choses paradoxales. Donc, ce sont les réseaux qui sont capables de se mobiliser. Et pour cela, il faut bien reconnaitre que la mainmise de l’Arabie saoudite par l’intermédiaire de ces commissaires politiques est quand même extrêmement puissante. Comment faire en sorte que la France soit épargnée désormais par les attentats terroristes d’origine islamiste ? Notre position doit être une alliance avec les Européens, puisque tout le monde est aujourd’hui touché par cela. Et donc, il faut pouvoir effectivement contrôler et expulser tous ces gens qui sont sur le territoire européen et qui diffusent ce message de haine. Moi, j’ai été surpris qu’après l’affaire Paty, on découvre qu’il y avait 273 dossiers d’expulsions qui étaient sur le bureau du ministre français de l’Intérieur. Ça veut dire quoi ? Cela veut dire qu’il y a eu un retard politique. Vous savez bien que les expulsions sont compliquées du fait que souvent, le pays d’origine ne veut pas accueillir la personne que la France veut expulser ? J’ai toujours en mémoire le cas du Londonistan à Londres. Le Londonistan se constitue parce qu’on considère comme réfugiés des individus qui sont poursuivis dans leur propre pays, parfois pour des actes terroristes. Les Anglais considéraient, avec ce cynisme qui les caractérise, que ça les protégeait. Cela les a protégés jusqu’aux attentats de Londres. Quand ils ont effectivement décidé que le Londonistan devait être vidé, ils ont négocié avec tous les pays dont étaient originaires les têtes pensantes du Londonistan en imposant comme seule condition qu’elles ne soient pas condamnées à mort. Et en faisant exercer toutes les pressions politiques qu’on peut avoir, ils ont réussi à vider le Londonistan. Cela veut donc dire que le gouvernement français se raconte des histoires quand il dit ça. Si l’Europe s’entend sur le fait que des pays qui ne veulent pas récupérer leurs terroristes doivent être privés des aides européennes, on a des moyens de pression formidables. Et il faut vouloir les appliquer. Cette posture diplomatique disant que les pays ne veulent pas, moi je n’y crois pas.

The band Kiss has played a surprising role in Glen Goodwin's career. A love of the group led to his first job, as delivery boy to restaurateurs such as Neil Perry. It also played a pivotal part in how he ended up in New York. He worked there for 12 years – with bosses such as Bobbie Flay and Wylie DuFresne – in a pre-gentrified Manhattan that had drug dealers on every corner. During this ultra-eventful time, Glen also ended up being quoted in a story called ‘Hey, Is That Sommelier Old Enough To Drink?' in the New York Times. That wasn't his only memorable overseas stint. In Paris, Glen impersonated his brother – so he could land a job at an Australian-themed pub. Spells in his home country have been pretty adventurous, too. After returning to Sydney in 2008, Glen ended up at Bentley Restaurant and Bar, where he became co-owner and lived through some incredibly late and rowdy work hours. In 2013, he helped them relocate the restaurant from the original Surry Hills site to the new Radisson Blu site in the CBD, which involved personally shifting $500,000 worth of wines. In 2012, he helped open their second venue, Monopole, which recently was awarded Best Wine List and two hats in the Good Food Guide. Glen was also nominated as Maître d' of the Year in the latest Gourmet Traveller awards. Glen is also co-owner of Yellow, a one-hatted restaurant which started serving all-vegetarian dinner menus this February.
