Could landmarks like the Grand Canyon and Mount Everest actually point to a much younger Earth than commonly believed? What if massive geological features worldwide share a common origin story that challenges conventional timelines? An experienced geologist examines five remarkable landmarks—from the Tibetan Plateau’s vast sedimentary layers to Uluru’s pristine feldspar composition—revealing patterns suggesting catastrophic formation rather than gradual processes. Geomorphologist, Dr Ron Neller, presents compelling geological evidence for rapid, large-scale formation of Earth’s most iconic features. Subscribe to Creation magazine ⇢

Through her story, the film offers a powerful reflection on resilience, mentorship, and making space in wild places.GUESTSKatie VetetoKatie Veteto was born in Southern Utah, raised in the Missoula Valley, and now spends her time in Missoula, MT and Salmon, ID. Fifty Years on the Rio Grande: Legendary River Tales with Guide Cisco Guevara 509

The Outdoor Biz Podcast

For over fifty years, Cisco has been piloting rafts down the Rio Grande and sharing captivating stories around New Mexico campfires. They call him a living legend. It all started with tree riding (yes, tree riding), tequila, and a $2/hour carpentry gig. Facebook   Twitter   Instagram Love the show? Subscribe,  rate, review, and share! Sign up for my Newsletter  HERE I'd love to hear your feedback about the show! You can contact me here:  rick@theoutdoorbizpodcast.com What Happened: I once thought success had to come from tech startups, corner offices, and polished résumés. But then I listened to Cisco's story—this guy who started out rafting New Mexico's Rio Grande for $25 a day, with a sombrero that flopped like a soggy tortilla every time it rained. One day, after winning a state dance contest (both kinds: country AND western), he walks into a hat shop and leaves with a five-inch bull rider felt hat. That hat wasn't just style—it was survival. When waves from the Taos Box smacked you in the face mid-rapid, that hat kept your eyes dry and your focus sharp. Cisco didn't just ride rapids. He rode the changing tides of culture, climate, and conservation, using his raft—and his stories—to teach generations about stewardship, resilience, and why you never, ever ride a pine tree like a bucking bronco (ask the guy with the fused spine). Principle: Success isn't always loud. Sometimes it's a black hat, a steady current, and the quiet consistency of showing up for 50 years. It's not about chasing trends—it's about choosing a life that aligns with your spirit, your landscape, and the legacy you want to leave behind. Transition: The truth is, a lot of us are paddling like mad trying to keep up—with tech, with trends, with whatever success is "supposed" to look like. But if you've ever felt like you're not made for that pace, if cubicles make your soul itch, or if you've ever dreamed of more meaning in your work… you're not alone. That's Why: That's why this episode with Cisco isn't just a nostalgia trip—it's a reminder that there's a different kind of success. One rooted in place, in culture, in connection. This episode shows how adventure, storytelling, and soulful business can intertwine in the most unexpected, enduring ways. Call to Action: If you've ever felt like your path doesn't fit the traditional mold, listen to this episode. It's time to stop chasing someone else's idea of success—and start crafting your own story.

Do you know there are millions of metric tons of plastic waste and microplastics floating in our oceans? This impacts both the fish and ultimately the food we consume. According to the EPA,  “Plastic particles are generally the most abundant type of debris encountered in the marine environment, with estimates suggesting that 60% to 80% of marine debris is plastic, and more than 90% of all floating debris particles are plastic.” Dr. Marcus Eriksen is on the show today to discuss the DVD “Our Synthetic Seas,” which covers the total issue about plastic and the garbage found in our seas and especially the problem of disappearing sea life as fish are now eating plastic, waste, debris, and more dangerous materials. Marcus is currently the Executive Director of the 5 Gyres Institute. He received his Ph.D. in Science Education from the University of Southern California in 2003, months before embarking on a 2000-mile, 5-month journey down the Mississippi River on a homemade raft of plastic bottles. His experience on the river led to a career studying the ecological impacts of plastic marine pollution, which has included 8 expeditions sailing 25,000 miles through all 5 subtropical gyres to discover new garbage patches of plastic pollution in the Southern Hemisphere and beyond. With an affinity for rafting, his most recent adventure sent him and a colleague across the Pacific Ocean from California to Hawaii on a homemade raft floating on 15,000 plastic bottles and a Cessna airplane fuselage as a cabin. The journey, 2,600 miles in 88 days, brought tremendous attention to the plastic pollution issue.   Info: Algalita.org and MarcusEriksen.com.

New Zealand has been high on so many of your travel wish lists—and for good reason! In this episode, Pam shares details from her recent two-week adventure on the North Island of New Zealand, including how she booked business-class flights, multiple free hotel nights, and even covered rental cars and excursions—all using points and miles (and one fortuitous mistake fare). From kayaking Cathedral Cove to digging out hot tubs at Hot Water Beach, it's a trip full of unforgettable experiences and major travel inspiration. Finding Flights to New Zealand: A Challenge (and a Win!) Getting to New Zealand in business class is no easy feat, but Pam pulled it off. After struggling to find availability, she scored two one-way business-class award tickets from Dallas to Auckland. The return flight was a mistake fare in United Polaris for just $1,000 cash (normally $3,800+).  Points-Powered Luxury: Park Hyatt Auckland & More Pam raved about the Park Hyatt Auckland, calling it one of her favorite Park Hyatts ever. For just 25,000 Hyatt points per night, she enjoyed stunning views of the harbor, incredible Globalist breakfast, and unbeatable service. She also used Capital One Venture X credits to cover stays at boutique resorts. The Itinerary: Coastal Drives, Kayaks, and Tiny Houses Bay of Islands: Booked via Capital One credits, with a scenic boat tour to Hole in the Rock Cathedral Cove: Kayaking through crystal-clear waters to one of New Zealand's most famous spots Hot Water Beach: Digging hot tubs in naturally heated sand Rotorua & Lake Taupo: Rafting a 21-foot waterfall, visiting Maori villages, and relaxing in Hilton luxury Bonus Stay: A tiny house Airbnb—Pam's dream come true! The Total Cost Breakdown Using a mix of points, miles, Capital One credits, and cash, Pam calculated her total out-of-pocket costs at around $3,000—a fraction of the $28,000+ retail value for flights and hotels. With ten nights of free hotel stays, complimentary breakfasts, and first-class flight experiences, it was an unforgettable journey made possible by smart planning and strategic redemptions.   Links: How to Get Your Next Vacation for Nearly Free - https://travelmomsquad.lpages.co/freevacation Links For All Things Travel Mom Squad: stan.store/travelmomsquad   Episode Minute By Minute: 00:30 – Why Pam did New Zealand: Take 2 03:00 – Booking flights with AA miles and a United mistake fare 08:30 – Pam's advice for finding flights to New Zealand 13:00 – Park Hyatt Auckland + Waiheke Island day trip 18:00 – Bay of Islands and boutique hotel stay 21:00 – Tiny house stay and Cathedral Cove 26:00 – Rafting a waterfall and Maori village experience 31:00 – Hilton Lake Taupo and relaxing 35:00 – Flying United Polaris home + final night at Grand Hyatt DFW 38:00 – Cost recap and final thoughts on why Pam can't wait to return Thinking about a trip to New Zealand?

Let me introduce you to Dan Oko, a guy whose life story sounds like a Hollywood script… if Hollywood scripts were written in hiking boots. Ever driven a beat-up Toyota Corolla through Montana like it's a 4x4? Dan Oko has—and he's got the stories to prove it. What Happened: Dan didn't grow up climbing mountains or rafting whitewater rivers. He was a kid with a fishing pole and a dad who owned a patch of land upstate. That's where it began—pulling bluegills out of a five-acre pond, exploring the woods, and imprinting on the wild. Fast forward to his twenties, and he's living in Seattle, backpacking the Olympic Peninsula, and soaking in the clash between environmentalists and loggers during the spotted owl controversy. He didn't just observe—he wrote. His curiosity drove him deeper into questions about land use, wildlife preservation, and how humans fit into it all. His adventures became the backbone of his storytelling: hitching rides on Montana rivers, hiking until the grid disappeared, and fishing wherever water touched land. Oh, and his car? A Toyota Corolla masquerading as an off-road truck. Let's just say, his photographer didn't appreciate the busted back window in winter. Principle: Dan's story isn't just about adventure—it's about perspective. He learned early that great storytelling isn't about the writer's opinion; it's about giving voice to the people, places, and wild landscapes that need it. His work reminds us that we're part of a bigger web of life, and the awe of the outdoors can change the way we see the world. That's Why: That's why this week's episode of the Outdoor Adventure Lifestyle Podcast is a must-listen. Dan shares how to embrace the wild, balance conservation with exploration, and rediscover that childlike awe for the outdoors. It's not just an interview—it's a wake-up call for anyone craving more adventure in their life. Are you ready to trade excuses for exploration? If you've ever felt stuck behind a desk, dreaming of big skies and wild trails, this episode is for you. Don't wait for the perfect moment—listen to Episode 488 now and get inspired to chase your own wild stories.

Creationists have long discussed rafting as one of the means by which animals migrated post-Flood. Upright trees would have acted like sails, enabling the rafts to cross intercontinental oceans relatively quickly. These trees likely sustained the raft inhabitants with food for their journey.
