For Pat Lynch, Founder WomensRadio(R) her former boss gave her a lifeline. Pat's immediate boss really liked her marketing ideas. The problem was, he could never answer the question as to when they would be implemented. So Pat went up the line to his boss who told her: ‘You know your boss has been here longer and he has a family. So maybe you should find another job.’ Words that eventually propelled her to where she is now. By the age of 25, Pat had served as the Press Secretary for a U.S. Senator and Congressman. She then founded her first advertising agency in Atlanta, Georgia.  Pat has been listed twice in The Worlds Who’s Who of Women. And she was the first person to use radio and TV to promote real estate. In 1996, she began a broad-based company, Women’s Online Media and Education Network, to promote communication for and about women.  It is currently producing WomensRadio® and a unique high quality and low cost tool called AudioAcrobat®.  With streaming credits from Microsoft, the first programs began in 1998, making the site the first to stream for women!  W.O.M.E.N. targets niche markets using the Web, wireless technologies, and social media and provides a platform for women leaders and also not-for-profits which serve women and issues that affect women, children and families. ‘It takes an overwhelming amount of courage to do something in the face of all opposition.’ My conversation with Pat Lynch: Breaking into the man’s world of advertising How a nightmare of words turned into an opportunity A long journey Seeking advisement Competitors and sharing of ideas Overcoming fear of new ideas The beginnings and the why of WomensRadio(R) Women’s online media and education creation What women want to hear about So much more to do

Pat Duffy and Alex Wilson joined Purposely Podcast to share their founder story The Giving Block has created a turnkey solution for cryptocurrency donations used by charities around the world. ‘Involved in a nonprofit and want to understand how it could boost your income... or just want to understand cryptocurrency more, this is the perfect episode for you to ' Mark Longbottom Co founders Pat and Alex first met at University with their friendship developing thanks to their mutual interest in cryptocurrency. Alex was an early adopter while Pat was working in a commercial role for the Lupus Foundation and saw cryptocurrency as a potential earner for his charity. Pat and Alex eventually launched The Giving Block in 2018 after seeing hundreds of millions of dollars in Bitcoin being donated to the few nonprofits that were equipped to accept those donations. With the cryptocurrency bull market of 2017-2018, millions of people around the world made a fortune investing in and trading cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ether. Because the American tax authority treats cyptocurrency as property, these investors had a huge tax incentive to donate Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies directly to nonprofits. In short, if donated directly to a nonprofit, they would not be liable for capital gains tax and could write it off on their taxes (similar to a stock donation). The problem? Very few nonprofits knew how to accept cryptocurrency donations or were even thinking about this new pool of donors. So Pat and Alex set out to create the only nonprofit specific solution for accepting cryptocurrency donations, Now, donors have over 200 nonprofits to choose from and it's easier than ever to begin accepting cryptocurrency donations. Alex Wilson has a background in management consulting where he worked with Fortune 500 companies to develop strategies around emerging technologies like AI, IoT, blockchain and cryptocurrency. As he went down the cryptocurrency rabbit hole, he began investing in and advising early stage cryptocurrency startups. Pat Duffy began as a federal consultant for pharmaceutical companies, focused on collaboration with nonprofits. He then shifted to the nonprofit sector, focusing on executive leadership and fundraising. So it's going to be interesting to see how we celebrate it. I'm copying and pasting here to make sure I don't lose anybody. I'm not getting any feedback. Okay. So how's everyone doing today? All right. So the plan is to work our way through and I just get their list of everybody up on the chat line. And I noticed some of your little getting sneaky, Hey, type in at 8:00 AM in the morning. And it's now five o'clock. So here we go. So we all start off, uh, with Dolly who's here, but not here. And we're looking at arthritis. Let's just open up the energy field. First. I want you to breathe very gently, try and fill your lungs as much as you can three though, just pay attention to your breath. Those areas where you feel pain, breathe in and imagine the air is coming in that area. So whether it's a tumor sore spot, something you misaligned a wound. Doesn't matter. Just imagine breathing in there. They're falling in the spine. Speaker 1 00:02:48 Yeah. Speaker 0 00:02:53 There's some attention to the nerves coming down in the left leg. Just check for any blockages coming down, cramping down, I'll be three kidney one just to bring the energy down. And your job is to relax. Let the energy flow and whatever changes happen. You want to make sure that you let them stay. Sometimes we get benefits from being ill and no judgment again, but we're just human living, a human experience. Sometimes we have patterns that are there. Sometimes our family patterns, we are a family, maybe prone to heart stuff, breast cancer, and we kind of fall into that hole. Coming out the right arm, all that tension. Let's move down to the fingers, tapping for sugar. So if you can try and cut back on your sugar, it's it's always a good idea. Um, maybe if you're with your coffee, sir, try to, instead of having a big spoonful, maybe try and cut it back a little bit at a time. Start reading the labels, limit cans. See what what's in them. Okay. There we go. Balancing Pat and also balancing no Dolly. Hey, so we're onto Regina now. Um, Hey there, uh, so we're looking at diabetes too. This time I'm going to haul up the points. One of them is a security reboot guide, and it has been so popular. Hey, listen, let's start again with your security. Let's reboot. This stuff it's become so popular. I think what we may do is turn this into a kind of a post-COVID-19 little thing. Maybe even have a course on it. So we'll be doing that as well, but you'll get that. If you subscribe Craig peterson.com/subscribe. So please do that. I'm not going to just send you all kinds of crap. I send good stuff. Believe me. We have people that have been on my email list now for decades. So it's good stuff. All right. Then the let's get into the good stuff right now. And that has to do with all of this antivirus software. You know, our friends over at Microsoft have come [00:02:00] up with their own antivirus software if you will. Who knows the whole windows environment better than Microsoft. Well, that's how the thinking goes. Microsoft has even released versions of it's kind of antivirus software for Linux. If you can believe it. I don't, I'm having a hard time with that, but I guess they have to because now they're including Linux as part of windows. Now, if that's not a tacit admission that you need Linux, I don't know what. Is Linux is really great for a lot of people and a lot of things, but it is kind of difficult to use. I have a friend who uses Linux and has for probably 20 plus years. Now, he listened to what I had to say way back then started exploring Linux. He's an insurance adjuster, Pat, and he had tried to figure out what's the best one. What should I use coming from a windows environment? I had helped them with solving some insurance problems. Some [00:03:00] insurance claims against some windows machines where some of the data had been mangled badly and then I wrote some, some code from scratch in the Unix world. In fact, Linux extracted all of this stuff. You know, there was a doctor who had was a plastic surgeon. He had all of these photos of all of the patients and that he had inadvertently when he was messing around with all these photos. Change the name of every photo to be exactly the same. So they had no idea who the photos were of when they were taken. They had nothing. So I wrote some code that went into the photos and, and, went in and looked around and found good data and made it so they could recover those photos for those people that had to have the plastic surgery. So Pat said to me, Craig, How can I be secure, now? This was some years ago, as I said, probably two decades ago. I said, well, there's no way to be [00:04:00] completely secure in the online space, Pat, but I can tell you one thing, windows is not the place to be. If you are looking at security. That is still the case today. If you're truly a security researcher, you are going to be using a VR version of Linux. A lot of people that just need to go online, who just need to access basic websites are using these Google Chrome devices, which are absolutely fantastic little devices. Now they don't meet all of the regulatory compliance issues that. You might have if you are in some sort of a regulated space as a business. I definitely don't like them in the school environment because Google has been caught taking the information about our students and selling it and sharing it. So, you know, I'm not a big Google fan and that's part of the reason why. But if you are a security guy and you want [00:05:00] something that doesn't really store much locally, that gets updated all of the time. Then the Chromebook is not a bad option and they use that now. And what's the Chromebook based on, of course, it has a Linux kernel underneath it. And Linux was designed to be secure before there was Linux. There were various versions of Unix, BSD being one of the big ones, A T and T, UNIX system three, system five, all of which I've had experience with over the years, man, it's been awhile are the predecessors of it. That's how the internet was designed. And the BSD, this Berkeley software distribution of Unix that comes from way back when the and threes and just earlier's it. How that. It was really designed to keep students out of the systems to provide the very first networking that ever there was. There was some of the very first, there was actually some of the machines that were before [00:06:00] these Unix machines, but it is absolutely fantastic. But, Pat figured out how to use Linux. And he was very determined. He managed to do it. I don't think it's for everybody. Dell does now offer Linux pre-installed on some of their laptop lines. So if you're interested in Linux and you like Dell and Dell is what we typically recommend nowadays. Be careful when we're talking about Dell because there's the consumer stuff and then there's the enterprise stuff, right? There is a difference between the two. But when we're talking about these Dell laptops that have Linux pre-installed, they are kept up to date. They do get their patches. Now Microsoft has had anti-virus for some of these versions of Linux, but you might want to try them out. Try out either a Chromebook or try out a Linux laptop, or even a desktop. I tend to use Mac. Because, unless it's a server function, in which [00:07:00] case I use a version of Unix, either BSD, derivative, like open BSD, which is one of the more secure versions of Unix out there. Or I use free BSD, or I use Ubuntu or Red Hat. I tend to use Red Hat a lot, but I use those for servers. I don't use those for desktop. So back into the antivirus software realm, Where you really, really need antivirus software is on your Windows computer. There are antivirus software packages that are available for all kinds of other platforms for your Android devices, which again are not terribly secure. We've talked about that before. I'm not going to talk about it right now and you could use it on some other platforms as well. Kaspersky has some for Linux. And as I mentioned, Microsoft does now too, but you really, really, really gotta be careful on Windows. It's attacked more than anything else. It is so common and it was so poorly [00:08:00] designed that it has all kinds of nasty holes all over the place. So the first piece of advice here, when we're talking about keeping your Windows computer safe, Is to use Windows defender. That sounds pretty straightforward. Does it? A lot of people use Windows defender. It's pretty solid. Make sure you've got it turned on. Cause it is on by default, but make sure it's turned on and make sure it's getting updated. So that's number one. Now we get into the third party software very, very quickly here. Now antivirus software is useless. A hundred percent against the most modern of attacks. So antivirus software will work for some of the old stuff. Now some of the old stuff still floating around out there and people are still getting nailed because they have not applied the patches to Windows and to all of the other programs that they have sitting [00:09:00] on that Windows machine. So yeah, your antivirus software could do you some good, but frankly, you shouldn't need it cause you should be all patched up. But. What I think you should get. And again, this is not a hundred percent and now things are a hundred percent, but go ahead and get Malwarebytes Malwarebytes, and put it on your Windows PC. It is a good idea also to put it on to your Macintosh computers, Malwarebytes. We tend to use something beyond Malwarebytes is called AMP, which is the anti-malware prevention software from Cisco. It's very good. I don't think you can buy it retail. I think you have to buy it through a reseller like me, but there are plenty of resellers out there. So if you can afford it, put AMP on your computer. But if not, get a paid version of Malwarebytes because you're going to get a little bit better [00:10:00] coverage for businesses. You're going to get some on-call support. It's going to be easier to use. You get some anti-phishing stuff, some extra banking security. Some of them include password managers and you know how important I keep telling everybody how important password managers are. I prefer by far 1password. That's what it's called the digit one password in order to keep all of my accounts safe in the online world, online space because one password just requires you to remember one really good password. Everything else is stored in a vault on the computer and you, you can't get much better than the way one password does it. We also use a third party, something called DUO. but you know, that's more advanced stuff that we're not going to get into right now. So. AMP I like number one, number two, Malwarebytes. Both of those are paid. [00:11:00] You can get free versions of Malwarebytes by the way. Although if you can afford it, go ahead and buy it. And it's going to provide protection for the whole family. Sometimes these things are really rather cheap. I'm surprised at how little Malwarebytes costs, but it isn't like the best thing in the world. And Bitdefender, absolutely Bitdefender is the other one to look at. Okay. Bitdefender, Hey, I'm out of time for right now. We're going to be back. So stick around you listening to Craig Peterson here on WGAN and I'm on every Wednesday morning at seven 30. Two with Mr. Matt during the drive time show, stick around. Engineering Influence from ACEC

Engineering Influence welcomes Pat Feyen, the President of the ACEC Life Health Trust, to discuss the new loyalty credit that will be sent to participating firms in August.  Transcript:Host:Welcome to another edition of the Engineering Influence podcast by the American Council of Engineering Companies. Today we're very pleased to be joined by Pat Feyen. He is the President of the ACEC Life Health Trust and we wanted to bring him on to talk about a couple of things, especially now in our current COVID-19 environment. And also we haven't really had the Trust on since our last in-person meeting in Chicago. This is a great opportunity to kind of reintroduce the Trust for those who weren't at the conference or, or didn't hear that episode. So Pat, welcome to the show first and tell us a little bit about the Life Health Trust.Pat Feyen:Well, thank you Jeff and thank you for having me. I want to start with recognizing that on May 1st the Life Health Trust celebrated 55 years of supporting ACEC member firms and honored, privileged to continue that role. We have a clearly stated mission to provide healthcare benefits, solutions and services to support the business objectives of ACEC member firms and the health and wellbeing of the firm's employees and their families. We are really excited about the opportunity to recognize the loyalty that's been demonstrated over the years from our member firms and customers. And I guess the combination of the fact that we've got a singular purpose and that's to bring value to ACEC member firms. Mission statement. I shared the little do that to support their business objectives. And then finally, in light of the coven, 19 challenges to our industry and the country. The life health trust board of trustees have approved a loyalty credit totaling $11 million that we will give back in the form of a reduction of August premium invoice.Host:That's a big number, 11 million. And that's, that's big news. Especially for firms today who are undergoing a cash crunch and are doing their best to minimize expenses and to recoup as many costs as possible to keep their businesses afloat. That, that's really good news. What kind of an impact is that going to have on firms, especially the firms that really make up the majority of, of the trust membership?Pat Feyen:Yeah, that's a great question. The average credit will be right around $8,000, but and there is a range, fairly wide range depending - based on how long the firm has been with the Life Health Trust. So by way of example, a firm with 25 employees would receive up to a $10,000 credit. A firm with 75 employees, you know, up to $35,000 credit. And then our larger firms around 150 employees could receive a credit of as much as $70,000.Host:Yeah. So not insignificant by any means. This credit. So I mean, that's significant. As of August 1st, 2020, all active firms will receive the loyalty credit. Of course, now we're coming into the later part of May do you have a timeline that kind of you know, the firms can take advantage of this and plan for when this credit's going to come into effect?Pat Feyen:Yes, we do. It's a little fluid, but the week of the 18th of May, we will announce the loyalty credit. On or about June 1st, we will provide the firms and their brokers and consultants the exact amount of their credit that will show up in the August invoice.Host:And I also understand that there's going to be potentially some webinars and some information in a website that'll be tied to that for active life health trust members to be able to get the information they need on that and to access information online.Pat Feyen:Yes. Well, we'll be partnering with ACEC doing our own mailings, websites, LinkedIn announcements, webinars to make sure that this is well communicated and understood and that we're available to answer any questions.Host:Absolutely. And we'll do our part to get the information out there. Really that's great news. That this is happening. I think that it shows, again, the benefit of the trust and why it's so popular with our members. And of course you know, it's, it's always one of those, you know, things that's a secret weapon within ACEC. Are our three trusts and the Life Health Trust is definitely one of the most popular that, that I hear about from our membership. And it really just is, is extraordinary that you're able to do this credit is, have you, have you ever done it? Oh no. I was just going to ask if you had, have you ever done anything like this to your knowledge in the trust's history? We've reduced premiums in August of 2007 after converting all of our membership from a previous carrier to United Healthcare. We enjoyed some significant savings because of moving to United Healthcare and passed that along to our member firms. But that would have been I think the only time in other time in history where something like this has happened and I think this is a partnership. It's important. The loyalty to the Life Health Trust from our member firms really creates the opportunity to invest in the health and wellbeing of the firm's employees and families. As you might imagine, the longer members remain on the trust and trust insurance plan, the greater the opportunity, our value added services can have an impact on health and thus healthcare costs, which of course, we pass back those savings over time to our member firms. So that was the thought and the basis for a a loyalty credit. And we've got many, many firms that have been with us a long time and they're the ones that will be at the higher end of the range of credit.Host:Yeah. And you do have firms that have been with you for a very long time. I mean, what's the average term that you know, a smaller mid range engineering firm has been with the trust.Pat Feyen:Oh, we lost track of when many of the smaller, most loyal firms started when we converted to United Healthcare. And that was 13 years ago. So our records go back 13 and, but those firms have been with us 30 and 40 years.Host:Yeah. So there, there are firms that, that match that a 55 year anniversary that you're...Pat Feyen:yeah, exactly.Host:So let's take a look, a broader view of this because you know, healthcare costs, of course, you know, we are in a medical healthcare pandemic right now. What are the other national, the large national healthcare insurers doing what are, what are some examples of, of what you've been seeing in the marketplace in response to a COVID-19?Pat Feyen:Well United Healthcare announced earlier this week that they are providing one point $5 billion in support to all of their customers nationwide. It takes on many forms like waving of copays not increasing premiums. The component of their plan that's most similar to ours is a 5 to 20% reduction in employer premiums to be reflected in the, their July invoice. But they've got a lot of programs and services and resources that they're extending and waiving costs. You know, that they have incurred fewer costs as of late because of the deferral of services knowing that there's a significant reduction in elective procedures. We have not seen that yet. If in fact that's the case and when we get another couple of months down the road, you know, then we'll consider you know, an additional return or reduction of premium to our member firms. Again, we're here to provide value to the member firm, not to make a lot of money. And if we're overcharging, then sure, the trustees will once again honor our mission statement and support our firm's business objects.Host:Yeah, absolutely. Because again, the loyalty credit that you announced today is not tied to the lower costs is just kind of based on the, on like you said, the the commitment to serving the members, especially in this very troubled time. So that's, that's really good to know and I know that you will be taking part. I know the Life Health Trust will be taking part in sponsoring some upcoming education on the ACEC education page. We have of course, part of our larger Rescue, Recover, Rebuild effort which is ongoing right now. We have been we've gotten the great and and, and very helpful support of the Life Health Trust to a sponsor, some webinars, some informational webinars, which will be free to members. And that has now up on our website at www.acec.org.Host:You'll find a link to our webinar series with the R3 initiative. And of course that first webinar coming up is going to be on May 21st. It's Controlling Healthcare Costs Through Work Site Wellness with Lindsey Simone. And that's going to be at three 3:30PM to 4:30PM on May 21st. And the information to register for that webinar's going to be up on our website. Just go on acec.org. You'll see it right at the top of the page, Pat. Is there anything else going on with the life health trust that you want to update our members on? At this point, the loyalty credit is of course the biggest news item to report. But anything else new happening that you'd like to to share?Pat Feyen:Yeah, that would be one thing. And that's the cause we know telemedicine utilization has, well, it's more than doubled during the pandemic. We have telemedicine services and of course provide access to physicians for general medicine needs you know, from the chest up. But we've added recently telemedicine services for behavioral health. Again, perfect timing, given the anxious times that, that we're, we're living in an addition dermatology and back here. So when I continue to encourage the utilization of that during, during this time when we're isolated,Host:That's, that's really good information, especially now with the increased access and interest and of course, behavioral health, telemedicine of, of being able to remotely meet with someone, especially now in this time of quarantine and the different stresses and demands that are put on people for remote work. And just, just the, the nature of being locked in for so long. So that, that's a very important resource that, that people should take advantage of.Pat Feyen:Yes sir.Host:It is it is some really good news coming out of the life health trust and really appreciate Patty taking time out of your day to update on this. And again really just, just keep tuned to Life Health Trust www.aceclifehealthtrust.com for more information and follow out on, for their you know, follow them for updates and announcements for the loyalty credit. And hopefully we will have you on after the loyalty to credit takes effect, you can kind of give a status report on how it's going a couple months down the line. We'd love to have you back on the show.Pat Feyen:I would welcome that opportunity. Thank you, Jeff.Host:Well, thank you and Pat, stay safe. Stay healthy and and look forward to speaking to you again. Thank you for thank you for coming on.Pat Feyen:Okay. Thank you Jeff.

#134: We are all in the midst of having to make pretty significant change in our lives. Maybe your work has been completely cut out from you and you’re struggling to find an answer.  That’s exactly where our guest on today’s show, Pat Flynn, was in 2008. After losing his dream job as an architect, Pat created a website to help others pass the LEED test, an exam many have to take in the architecture industry. People began leaving feedback on his site, with many saying his content was so good, they would pay for it.  So Pat wrote a study guide that dove even deeper into techniques to pass the LEED and sold it for $19.99 on his website. During its first month on the website, Pat generated $7,008.55 and that’s when it began to click for him. “When I got there I definitely had to compose myself.” Pat Petrillo is a world-class drummer and educator from New Jersey who has been featured many times on Drumeo live and pre-recorded lessons, satellite instruction, and development of the P4 practice pad. Besides his vast library of lessons with Drumeo, Pat is one of the pioneers of educational media content. His very first video, “Snare Drum Rudiments” was, in fact, one of the first instructional videos ever produced. He would later create his DVD/Book, “Hands, Grooves, and Fills”. In addition to his vast contributions to drum education, he is also an incredibly versatile performer who is capable of blending into nearly any situation with authenticity. He has performed with Gloria Gaynor, Patti LaBelle, Dee-Lite, Patti Smythe, and Glen Burtnik. He also has performed many times on Broadway in New York City including such shows as “A Chorus Line”, “Grease”, “Footloose” and “Dreamgirls”. I was first introduced to Pat at NAMM this year (2019) and we had discussed the idea of having an interview. We decided to wait because Pat had a very special project in the works. He was recording an album with his NYC Big Rhythm Band covering a cherry-picked selection of Beatles tunes. The drums were recorded at the legendary Abbey Road studios exactly where Ringo would have tracked drums many years ago. So Pat and I got together to talk about this experience.   You Will Hear About…. The album cover of Abbey Road and the coincidence that took place for Pat’s album cover. Pat’s initial reaction to being at Abbey Road studios. Details about the recording process at Abbey Road studios. Pat reflecting on his love for The Beatles music and how this project means so much to him. Pat’s thoughts on how musicians are undervalued by consumers of music. How drum videos online can end up having no value other than to impress others and gain notoriety among other drummers. Whether Pat would trade places with a young drummer in this generation in favor of his generation and upbringing. How do we maintain intensity without the intensity of volume? Being a responsible musician and not an irresponsible drummer on the bandstand.   Why Should You Listen? Given the fact that Pat is an educator, it becomes almost unavoidable that he will educate people during an interview. Not necessarily “how to” stuff but instead a “why you should” approach, or “why you shouldn’t” for that matter. There is a lot of that stuff in here. It is also really inspiring to hear about his travels to Abbey Road and those days spent in a studio that Pat would only have dreamt about recording in as a child. As one of the original founding members of the Mobile Loaves & Fishes "six pack," Pat Patterson is a man who exudes selflessness. He even recalls how helping others in need at one point in life just wasn't fulfilling enough—only because it wasn't happening often enough by his servant-hearted terms. This conversation with Pat gives a touching look into his life as he reflects on his childhood on a farm, serving in the army, meeting the love of his life, Bunky, followed by 52 years of marriage and raising six children. When a hurricane struck the Gulf Coast in the early years of the Mobile Loaves & Fishes ministry, Pat realized that God had big plans for the path ahead. So Pat did what Pat does best—he continued to serve, and has been in awe of God's work ever since

This is episode #31 of the series called "first watch/first listen" where we do little to no research except for watching a movie or listening to an album only once and then talking about it based only on our feeble memory. **SPOILERS** - - - - It has finally happened. The man finally took one of the boys down and Andrew has been thrown in the big house for having "too good of content" this last week. So Pat took his little fanny down to the podcast store and asked for one replacement host. And what he got was someone with knowledge on all things super natural, a true master of the dark arts. Some even say she has a degree in keeping it fresh, with a minor in kickin' it. Whoever she is, she makes one helluva podcast host. But really, it's Georgia. On this week's episode, Pat and Georgia dive right into dick jokes. Even without the great man, he can still count on the rest of the gang to make unsolicited dick jokes in his absence. They also go into several new trailers that dropped during the week including the new "IT: Chapter Two" trailer and a fantastic trailer for A24's new feature, "The Farewell." They also get into what's ahead for Chris Evans and the various projects he has lined up. And of course they discuss the new Ted Bundy biopic staring Zac Efron, "Extremely Wicked Shockingly Evil and Vile." All that and more on this week's episode! Find it wherever you get your podcasts. PAT: Good morning! Thanks for having me. KEVIN: I'm excited to have our conversation. You know I always like to dig in and find out why people have joined eXp Realty before we get into some of the specifics about that. Why don't you for listeners who aren't familiar with you get a little of your background in sort of what led up to your decision to decide to join the realty. PAT: Sure yeah. So I've got a pretty life changing story so I've had my license in San Antonio from San Antonio, Texas had my license since the end of 2007 and actually got my license to do farm and ranch with a big broker based out of Hondo, Texas. I was doing farm and ranch part time I was doing medical sales full time in San Antonio. You know I did the whole traditional you know go to college and get a degree and get out of college and you know go get a good job in corporate America. So I did that for about five and a half years. And I really loved I was actually doing medical sales really love medical sales. You know a great income from it you know learning a lot and many a lot of great people and doctors all around San Antonio. You know. But I was just kind of grinding. I was making great money but you know really working hard, 60 70 80 hours a week, and you know was kind of getting burned out of the whole corporate America rat race if you will and so I was looking to find a way to exit corporate America. And I actually found a way that the.. I'd say in 2010. I was able to actually exit corporate America and by Senior Home Care franchise. My dad was the CFO of a large senior home care franchise in San Antonio and I had the opportunity to buy an underperforming office from the corporate office and turned it into a franchise owned office which I owned and I did that for an investment for about three and a half years. So I took it from a two hundred twenty five thousand dollars in annual revenue to about a 1.3 million dollars in about three and a half years and ended up selling it in wanting to move back to San Antonio and get back into real estate on the residential side and so I did so and also alongside of doing that in real estate I actually was an investor in a startup digital media company which in about six months I lost over 300,000 dollars in that investment. So I had to make real estate work and I didn't want to join a big you know... KW office, Century 21 office, Remax office anything like that I wanted to start small and my business partner at the time with that digital media company actually introduced me to some brokers in San Antonio that were wanting to kind of start growing their boutique brokerage firm and so it was a great fit. And so I did so joined forces with them and really found my passion and real estate help and you know what consumers are with the largest purchase of their life which is their home. So my first year in real estate I did 3.2 million dollars. You know again my passion wanted to start a team. My second year I started that team. We did 2.5 million in production, 61 transactions and you know was really wanting to take it to the next level having a lot of fun. And I got a life changing phone call by Scott Lewis my mentor and sponsor in San Antonio. One December Monday afternoon wanting to share EXP with me and at the time I wasn't looking to make a change. I was very happy I was comfortable and very loyal and wasn't really wanting to make a change. He called me and asked that I take a look at this business model and I did so two hours after I got the life changing phone call I needed to find another brokerage firm and I took a look at that business model and I was blown away. I was blown away with the opportunity for one. I was blown away with you know the model with the revenue share with a stock ownership and with the training and the lead generation tools that he provided. And so I actually called up Scott the next day and said hey listen you know on needing to make a change wanting to make a change. And I really like what I see. You know let's talk and so we ended up talking. And whenever I met Scott Lewis there was actually two other gentlemen there the name of Gene Frederick and Rob Flic at that table and so I ended up you know sitting down my dad that was with me. He's recently retired and my CFO of my real estate business and we went there and wanted to learn a little bit more about the eXp. And I was blown away by for one the eXp business model. For two what you know Gene Frederick and Rob Flic had done at a previous company. And you know why they came to eXp was just mind blowing. So I really wanted to listen and a 45 minute meeting turned into several hours and I was blown away with the numbers and with what they were wanting to do the eXp in the next several years and so I wanted to join forces with them and so I did that you know guys it got my attention. You know let's do this and after two hours after I left that meeting I got a call from a broker in San Antonio wanting to talk to me about kind of what he can do with me and for my team. And so we ended our talk and I said hey you know what I'm looking to make a change I'm going to be making a change probably over the eXp Realty and he said "hey listen give me at least one hour tomorrow. I want to talk to you about kind of what I can do and how I can help you with you and your team" so I said OK you know what I respect that. I'm open mind, I'll definitely listen to you I'm listening to eXp, I'll definitely listen to what you have to say in that company was known as KW. KW is a great company and I had the opportunity to listen to that broker and to kind of make a long story short you know he was.. you know wanting to give me a lot of perks to come over to KW And so at the end of the conversation I was really leaning still towards the eXp not only for myself but for my teammates and their fans. I knew I needed to make a right decision to come over the eXp and really had my mind set on that and at the end of the conversation with that broker there at KW and I said hey listen you know can you answer these three questions. He said What do you got? I said for one can you give me revenue share. Not profit share he said "no I can't do that. You know that's not a business model". I said okay can you give me stock ownership and he said "no you know we're not publicly traded I can't do that". I said OK great. Can you give me conversion for free to help me generate massive amounts of buyer and seller leads from my team. He said no again you know that's not our business model I can't do that it's very expensive. I said OK you know what you just have to make my decision you know I'm going to eXp. And he literally lift me he said man you're going to go. And I said you know what it's not about really doing good, it's about providing and having the best brokerage firm and truly you know why I'm so blessed to be a part of eXp. And I said you know this is... I can offer this to other agents you know we're truly the first agent own cloud based brokerage firm. You know that I can offer all these perks to you know these other agents all across the country and so fast forward to eXp, 26 months I've been here eXp. Super blessed super excited about the opportunity some success that I've had and I personally introduced eXp to 26 agents out of those 26 agents. I've built a revenue shore organization of about 685 spanning 32 states and Canada in the last 26 months so you know this is only the beginning. I'm super excited about this opportunity super blessed to be a part and be in business with a lot of legends in the industry like our own Gene Frederick and it's truly a game changer and you know I'm looking forward to a growing eXp alongside of a lot of other rock stars. KEVIN: Fantastic and then that's a great overview and for listeners I want to come back and touch on some things and get back to talk a little bit more about it. Because you're out there now talking about eXp you're traveling you're actually on the road today in Raleigh. You made a comment that you said you weren't looking to make a change when you were approached and you were happy.I can tell you that when Gene and I talk to just about everybody, that is the default position and not that we think that it's kind of like it's not like a retail store when you go in and somebody says can I help you say I'm just looking. Now we get it the best prospects that ultimately end up joining eXp are the ones that say just what Pat did. I'm happy I'm not looking to make a change. And then they become intrigued. I had a broker that was a good friend of mine. I was actually because I do a management consulting. It was a client of mine and I asked him to look at eXp for the purpose of the fact that I knew he was typically acquiring brokers and he would know of candidates and I said Have you passed on that you think we should talk to he said well send me some information. I sent him a couple of videos and some other information and he called me on Monday and said this is probably going to blow you away but I think that we're going to convert our brokerage to eXp. He was so far from a prospect right I respected the fact that we were a longtime client relationship and I wasn't trying to necessarily do that. I wanted to get his take on it as do I should talk to and that's fairly typical. Pat's story is typical and then the other thing I want to touch on because you talked about revenue share and I agree with you. Gene Frederick and I come from KW We were both in leadership. We both were team leaders. You know he had involvement as a regional owner you know for those of you listening regardless of what franchise system you're in - here's great places to work in real estate. You have to make your personal decision where you want to be. But when Pat's talking about how many states would you say it was 32 or 37?. PAT: That's right. Yes I'm actually in 32 states and Canada. KEVIN: Ok so 32 states and Canada. So what Pat has built as a business. And I want to translate that for listeners that are in a franchise system is he's getting paid like a regional owner would out of a franchise system. So if you're not familiar with let's say you're an agent and you're not familiar with how this works in a big franchise system the regional owners have purchased typically for millions and millions of dollars a region and the franchise royalties and or other compensation gets paid off the top and they get paid based on Agent count. In other words if there's a thousand agents in their region they get paid off the top. And essentially if I want to give it a different term other than the regional income stream I would call a revenue share right because it's coming off the top. It may be royalty but let's not get stuck on what it's called. So and I bring that up for a couple of points and I know Pat I'm just preaching to the choir with you because you get this. Don't ever let anybody tell you that revenue sharing is not a sustainable model. If you're sitting in a franchise system and your team leader or a managing broker is telling you that revenue share will never work. Ask them how do the regional owners get paid in my region. And they're going to have to essentially described your revenue share. And so what Pat has created in the span of less than two years or actually a little over two years at this point right. Is a almost 700 agent region in Canada and the United States. And I would imagine your region is growing pretty quickly. How many people are you adding on a monthly basis. PAT: You know what...? Yeah that's a great question. It's rolling honestly by about a 130 agents now per month. Just like anything you know I built a foundation. But you know what. It's been a lot of fun. Yes it's been hard work. It's not easy but you know I do a lot of presentations all across the country just like I'm getting ready to do another lunch alone today here in Raleigh with my leader here. It's truly made in real estate fun again. You know I was grinding for two years at that boutique brokerage firm on that hamster wheel as I call it just kind of tunnel vision just wanting to grow grow grow grow grow. And I was only as good as my last sale. And you know I didn't have an exit strategy I didn't even really know what an exit strategy was. Whenever Scott Lewis sat down with means that Pat you know you're two years into this role say business you know you're doing some good things you know you put up some good numbers for your second year in the industry you know 12 and a half million dollars in volume. What is your true exit strategy and I said you know Scott I don't have an exit strategy. Even know what an exit strategy is in real estate. You know I just sold my business I just invested into a startup lost a lot of money. You know I'm not looking to exit real estate that I'm looking to keep on growing. You know I'm a young guy. You know I said the only thing I could think of is you know I want to get my team's production in the next five to seven years up to 75 to 100 million dollars in production for a year so that I can afford to invest in real estate. I can afford to put money away. I can afford to slow down if I choose to. So I really wasn't looking to exit the industry said about you know take a look at this business model. I can show you how to do that in the next two to three four years alongside of your production in alongside of acquiring stock at eXp because we are a true agent owned brokerage firm. I was just blown away. So for me I'm building a massive exit strategy alongside of selling real estate. I've got a team in San Antonio. We do anywhere from about 9 to 12 million dollars a year every single year. In San Antonio in our production I'm looking to grow that as well because you know we are a brokerage firm first but you know what. You know we're a true agent owned brokerage firm that you know I can offer agents you know an exit strategy through the revenue share program the revenue share model with the agents that want to help us grow. You don't have to attract agents to the company but why wouldn't you want to attract agents to the company and grow this company that you're a shareholder of. And then another beautiful thing to is... At eXp you know you can acquire stock six different ways which I'm not a big stock guy but you know what the stock's gone from 6 to 2 cents a share Whenever I join twenty six months to go up to over 12 dollars a share it's gone as high as seventeen dollars a share. So you know that's truly amazing you know the agent count has gone from 800 agents whenever I joined 26 months ago to surpassing over 8000 agents just a few weeks ago here at a company and so you know the growth is there in the caliber of agents that are coming on board is just truly amazing just like the other group there in San Diego, California you know Carl Whistle and his whole entire group and then he's attracted a few other big leaders out there in San Diego California bringing over a half a billion dollars in production. You know that tells you something right there. KEVIN: And that's a great point. I mean it's one of those things where you know in my manager consulting practice and we also did coaching to brokers and large rainmakers from teams. There is a coming change in the production business where you know people have a successful business you talked about a three or four that joined the deal a half a billion in production. There's plenty of people that do 10 million 20 million 30 million a year. And there's the change that we see occurring and eXp realty is driving this is there is a another business model to look at other than just more production more markets more growth just in the team and people are looking at this as a business that is in addition to their production. And so you described a couple of things and I want to go back and make sure if somebody is listening to this and they want to basically dive in on eXp realty you should go back to whoever introduced you to eXp realty, ask them to plug you in with leaders. Before we wrap up today Pat's going to give his information and Gene Frederick, myself, Mitch all of the leadership in eXp Realty is available as a resource right. Doesn't matter how you got exposed to the eXp Realty. That's right. We want to help you make a good decision. Get the due diligence so whoever got you exposed to eXp Realty can get you connected with leadership people that can get you the right due diligence materials. Now one of the steps that we see a lot of agents go through whether they're a rainmaker for a team or just an agent is they go to a lunch and learn. So Pat will you describe what they're going to typically see in other words sometimes people are a little bit apprehensive right there like well I don't have my broker to know that I'm looking because you know that could have consequences. What is the process you walk somebody through let's say somebody is listening to this and they do 20 million dollars a year. They've got a team and they want to figure out about eXp realty. PAT: Sure that's a great question. You know we do lunch and learns you know every single week in San Antonio opening Friday at Ruth's Chris. And you know anybody that's listening that's in San Antonio definitely you know can reach out to myself loved to invite you as my special guest. But you know the lunch and learns are really for like an intro to eXp if you haven't seen the model you know come check it out. We do about a 45 minute presentation or so then we kind of open it up for Q and A. There's a lot of guests there each week. There's a lot of other eXp agents as well with their guest and it's a lot of fun. You know we've got videos that we can send you to you know take a look at the business model you know on your own. Obviously everything's confidential but if you want to come out and see a live presentation you're more than welcome we've got lunch and learns you know going on all across the country and on get ready day one here again in Raleigh, North Carolina today. One of my team leaders actually did a big lunch and learn in Miami, Florida on Tuesday. You know we've got our weekly one in San Antonio every single Friday. We also have live webinars every single week as well on Tuesdays. And so you can definitely come and plug yourself in. But you know it's a lot of fun. You know this a business model. Like I said it's getting agents excited. It's a lot of fun to share this model just like I got a life changing phone call by Scott Lewis 26 months ago. You know now I'm able to reciprocate and give that life changing phone call to other agents like I did here in Raleigh, North Carolina with one of my leaders about 16 months ago. Great agent came from local banker and you know what I shared with him 16 months ago out of eXp has truly changed his life, changed him families life, changed his financial future as well too so however you want to see it if you want to see it you know privately you can definitely see it privately. We've got a resource here where we can send you some you know pre-recorded videos like Jean-Frederic got awesome eXp explain video that he did several months ago I believe in Florida and then also we've got live webinars we've got live lunches and so how you want to see it. Now if it's you know confidential definitely you know confidential for you guys but come on out let us know we're here to help. We're here to have fun and you know basically just educate yourself on this business model that's changing and disrupting the real estate industry. KEVIN: Fantastic. For anybody listening for rolling down the road and listening in your car or away from your computer. The show notes for the podcast will have an introductory video you can watch about seven minutes or so on eXp Realty, the video that Pat references where Gene Frederick is presenting and it was in Florida I think it was last August will be linked in the show notes as well. Pat before we wrap up this session. How would if somebody is listening to this and they want to get a hold of you. What's the best way to reach you? PAT: Sure. You know the best way is just my cellphone number. You know I've got my cell phone glued to me every single day. My cell phone number is that area code 210 693 8711 again 210 693 8711. And just give me a call. Shoot me a text whatever it is and I definitely would love to answer any questions that anybody has. In that scene. Just like what you're saying you know this business model is so unique and so different that I help out everybody that's interested. In the opportunity and the business model with eXp I help out a lot of agents that are not even in my drug reps organization because you know what if I help them out and they end up joining eXp that going help the company grow and how I get a benefit from it while I'm at a benefit from it from the age of ownership can the stock side of it if they're in my revenue share organization that are benefiting from their success and revenue sharing. So I'd benefit either way. And so it's a great business model where the agents come together and truly want to help everybody grow. You know these agents are not my competitors these agents are my colleagues they're my shareholders. You know we're all shareholders together and we're all in this together so everybody wants to collaborate and help each other out. I've never seen anything like this. I've been a part of a lot of Fortune 500 medical companies own my own business. I've sold my own business and truly this is something that I've never seen before. You know the leadership alone at eXp is just truly remarkable. We've got a ton of great leaders we're adding more leaders to the corporate staff. You know every single month and so to be a part of this and the see eXp grow, it is just truly life changing. KEVIN: Well and we appreciate you coming on because I want to reiterate what you're saying which is it doesn't matter if it's Gene Frederick, it's Pat it's me or anybody else.
