“When I got there I definitely had to compose myself.” Pat Petrillo is a world-class drummer and educator from New Jersey who has been featured many times on Drumeo live and pre-recorded lessons, satellite instruction, and development of the P4 practice pad. Besides his vast library of lessons with Drumeo, Pat is one of the pioneers of educational media content. His very first video, “Snare Drum Rudiments” was, in fact, one of the first instructional videos ever produced. He would later create his DVD/Book, “Hands, Grooves, and Fills”. In addition to his vast contributions to drum education, he is also an incredibly versatile performer who is capable of blending into nearly any situation with authenticity. He has performed with Gloria Gaynor, Patti LaBelle, Dee-Lite, Patti Smythe, and Glen Burtnik. He also has performed many times on Broadway in New York City including such shows as “A Chorus Line”, “Grease”, “Footloose” and “Dreamgirls”. I was first introduced to Pat at NAMM this year (2019) and we had discussed the idea of having an interview. We decided to wait because Pat had a very special project in the works. He was recording an album with his NYC Big Rhythm Band covering a cherry-picked selection of Beatles tunes. The drums were recorded at the legendary Abbey Road studios exactly where Ringo would have tracked drums many years ago. So Pat and I got together to talk about this experience.   You Will Hear About…. The album cover of Abbey Road and the coincidence that took place for Pat’s album cover. Pat’s initial reaction to being at Abbey Road studios. Details about the recording process at Abbey Road studios. Pat reflecting on his love for The Beatles music and how this project means so much to him. Pat’s thoughts on how musicians are undervalued by consumers of music. How drum videos online can end up having no value other than to impress others and gain notoriety among other drummers. Whether Pat would trade places with a young drummer in this generation in favor of his generation and upbringing. How do we maintain intensity without the intensity of volume? Being a responsible musician and not an irresponsible drummer on the bandstand.   Why Should You Listen? Given the fact that Pat is an educator, it becomes almost unavoidable that he will educate people during an interview. Not necessarily “how to” stuff but instead a “why you should” approach, or “why you shouldn’t” for that matter. There is a lot of that stuff in here. It is also really inspiring to hear about his travels to Abbey Road and those days spent in a studio that Pat would only have dreamt about recording in as a child. Glen Burtnik embodies exactly what The Hustle represents - the artist that works tirelessly to stay vital, involved, creative and paid. Glen was launched as a promising solo artist in the mid-80s releasing two great records on A&M. He achieved some chart success with 1987's "Follow You" which reached #65 on the pop charts. As the solo career was sputtering, Glen was invited to replace Tommy Shaw in Styx and wrote their last decent-sized hit with 1991's "Love is the Ritual". This began a new career as a professional songwriter (penning hits for Patty Smythe and Don Henley, as well as Randy Travis) and as a gun for hire, bringing his professionalism and vast talents to anyone that needed them. These days he's in, no kidding, at least half a dozen different groups/projects/ensembles all of which showcase his passion for great, classic music.  http://www.glenburtnik.com/

Music Biz 101 & More is the only radio show in America that focuses on the business side of the music & entertainment worlds. Hosted by William Paterson University's Dr. Stephen Marcone & Professor David Philp, the show airs live each Wednesday at 8pm on WPSC-FM, Brave New Radio. In this episode, Marcone and Philp interview Glen Burtnik, Tony Pallagrosi, the owners/promoters of the Summer of Love Experience, a series of concerts celebrating the music of 1967-1969. Also interviewed is Rich Russo, host/curator of radio's Anything Anything syndicated program. The guests speak about life on the road, the costs of putting on a show and tour, how the music is chosen, and much more. You're a silly person if you don't click and listen. Robbie is still out rockin' the continent, but in his stead we offer you the mighty Quinton Flynn, and there is much rejoicing! Ingredients of this week's verbal stew include bands that work, lonely cavemen, handgun substitutes, irregular heartbeats, cool party tricks, unpleasant surgeries, TSA ladles, and plain white sleeves. Plus, Thom gets lost in the gigosphere, and Chris considers having to cosplay Bane just to get a decent night's sleep. Music by Glen Burtnik, Heliopolis, and The Mockers.

Chris takes over hosting duties while Robbie is overseas, Thom returns from his Deseret sojourn, and friend of the show Dave Shalansky arrives to inject his keen insight and conversational rocket sauce to a post-mortem of Oscar night, what might end up as a pre-post-mortem of Charlie Sheen, and an attempt at putting all of the show's communications-related ducks in a row (which plays out a little more like a herding of cats.) Also, this week's Sodomizing A Legacy is an mighty epic of vocal contortion, featuring a quote of an impression, wrapped in a caricature of mimicry. WINNING!!! Music by the The Goldbergs, The Wonderstrucks, and Glen Burtnik.
