Synopsis for sections covered by CWs: Delphi and Toz come across a group of warforged (who prefer the term forgeborn) protesting for equal rights outside the town hall. They were made by wizards at the university (whom they don't see as parents) and although they have sentience, are not seen as fully 'alive' by some in power. Toz speaks to the media rep Lunaris, who gives her a pamphlet about their movement. They confirm that Hugo Munerin has been involved. Later, when the party reunite, Toz and Morgan explain the forgeborn's plight to Raina and Delphi, and Morgan reads the pamphlet, noting that the movement has become more developed since she was last here. What happens when a party-loving, vintage-hunting, anti-capitalist powerhouse decides to take on billionaires, landlords, and the status quo? You get Jen Snyder—a political strategist, campaign manager, and all-around force for working-class people. In this episode, Jen and I dive deep into how she went from the world of advertising to running political campaigns, using the same persuasion tactics that sell products to fight for real change. We break down the psychology of propaganda, how billionaires trick people into voting against their own interests, and why local government is where real power lies. If you've ever felt overwhelmed by politics or unsure where to start, Jen lays out tangible steps you can take to get involved without burning out. We also discuss immigration rights, the fight for social housing, and how taxing the rich can fund the programs we all deserve. The future isn't written yet, but it will be built by those who fight for it—so let's get to work. Listen now, share widely, and join the movement.

Welcome to part three of our limited series where we pull back the curtain on the publication process. This episode features Family Medicine editors Sarina Schrager, MD, MS, and Octavia Amaechi, MD, advising on what to do upon receiving that dreaded rejection notification. Everybody gets papers rejected, and the reviewer's comments provide an opportunity to grow, refine your paper, and make it stronger for the next journal submission. Our editors share opportunities to refine your writing skills and keep your work out of the rejection pile. Above all else, they encourage you to remember your “why” and to keep going! Hosted by Saria Saccocio, MD, MHA, FAAFPCopyright © Society of Teachers of Family Medicine, 2024Resources:Quick Consult - formerly the Virtual Coaching ProgramSTFM Leadership through Scholarship FellowshipSTFM CERA FellowshipSTFM Medical Editing Fellowship  STFM URM Mentorship ProgramPRiMER Author Mentorship ProgramAmerican Family Physician Jay Siwek Medical Editing FellowshipJournal of the American Board of Family Medicine Research and Editing FellowshipAnnals of Family Medicine Editorial FellowshipGuest Bio:Sarina Schrager, MD, MSEditor in Chief Family MedicineSarina Schrager, MD, MS, is a professor in the University of Wisconsin's Department of Family Medicine and Community Health (UW DFMCH). What's the role of philanthropy when it comes to building strong towns? How do we get philanthropy involved, and how do we make good investments? How do we access federal programs and bigger resources effectively? This is a tension within our conversation, and to help us unpack it, we invited two experts who are well-aligned with these issues onto the podcast: Kelly Jin, the Vice President for Community and National Initiatives at the Knight Foundation (where she leads a $150 million active grant portfolio, and $30 million in annual grant-making), and Stephen Goldsmith, the Derek Bok Professor of the Practice of Urban Policy and the Director of the Data-Smart City Solutions program at Harvard's Kennedy School of Government. Goldsmith also directs the Project on Municipal Innovation, the Civic Analytics Network, and the Mayoral Leadership in Education Network. ADDITIONAL SHOW NOTES Kelly Jin (LinkedIn). Have you ever met someone so passionate about something that you just couldn't help getting excited about it, too? That was host Mike Jordan Laskey's experience when he first met Fr. Tom Curran, SJ, today's guest. Fr. Curran, who served as the president of Rockhurst University in Kansas City for 16 years, is now the coordinator of the Jesuit Prison Education Network (JPEN). Through participation in JPEN, nine different Jesuit institutes of higher learning offer college courses and degree programs -- taught by their own college/university professors -- at correctional facilities around the country. The programs are open to both those who are incarcerated and prison staff members, and Fr. Curran has some incredible stories about how the programs have changed the students and teachers lives and even the cultures of the correctional facilities themselves. In the conversation, Fr. Curran describes some of the ways our criminal justice system is dehumanizing and how prison education is a prophetic statement against that reality. He also talks about how Ignatian spirituality inspires his work and shared some of the most powerful stories from the JPEN programs. EPISODE 45–A Closer Look at Ace/Aro IdentitiesThere are misconceptions and misunderstandings surrounding those who find themselves on the asexual (ace) and/or aromantic (aro) spectrums. In this episode of In the Den, Jen talks with special guests Grayson Moore and Kris Glad about what it means to be asexual and aromantic. Special Guest: Grayson MooreGrayson Moore (he/him) came out as transgender at age 16 (2011) and as asexual two years later. Grayson, alongside his mother Neca Allgood, worked with Equality Utah on extending Utah's housing and employment nondiscrimination protections to cover sexual orientation and gender identity. He has also worked with Affirmation LGBTQ Mormons Family and Friends. Grayson currently lives in Michigan with his boyfriend and girlfriend. He enjoys cooking, singing, occasionally writing, and playing Factorio.Special Guest: Kris GladKris Glad (they/them) first came to their asexual identity at age 17 (2012). In the decade since, they've found their experience to be fluid with regards to where, precisely, they fall on the asexual and aromantic spectrums, and they've tried on many labels within the ace and aro community to understand their experience and communicate about it with the people in their life. These days, Kris gravitates towards the term 'demiromantic', but mostly just tells people they're somewhere on the ace and aro spectrums.Kris has a degree in Gender Studies and Sociology from the University of Utah, and they enjoy nerding out on queer history, feminist theory, and any scholarship that helps them understand their own experience. In their free time, Kris can usually be found crafting - knitting, cross stitching, sewing, etc - probably while listening to a podcast.Links from the show: Aces and Aros: https://acesandaros.org/ The Asexuality Visibility and Education Network: https://www.asexuality.org/ The Ace and Aro Advocacy Project: https://taaap.org/ Join MamaDragons today at www.mamadragons.org In the Den is made possible by generous donors like you.
