Recorded on February 22, 2023, this podcast features a lecture by Professor Kadji Amin, Associate Professor of Women's, Gender and Sexuality Studies at Emory University. In this talk, “Training Bourgeois Selves: Magnus Hirschfeld and the Subsumption of Pederasty,” Amin discusses a key architect of Modern Sexuality, the German Jewish homosexual sexologist Magnus Hirschfeld. Amin argues that Hirschfeld's work allows us to track the process by which the bourgeois Western notion of sexuality as a form of innate selfhood subsumed sex as a social and spatial practice. By turning to Hirschfeld's work, Amin's talk argues that the fundamental problem of queer of color critique — that of how sexuality conceals and transacts more salient hierarchies of power — was born with the epistemological invention of sexuality. The event was co-sponsored by Social Science Matrix and the UC Berkeley Department of French. 19. Juni 2017, die 170. Folge. Heute ein paar Notizen zum Aphorismus 152 aus Minima Moralia: "Vor Missbrauch wird gewarnt" von Theodor W. Adorno. Vorgelesen, notiert, kommentiert; zu Karl Popper, mechanischer Subsumption, methodischen Werkzeugkästen der Soziologie, und anderem. Zu Risiken und Nebenwirkungen fragen sie ihre Philosophin und Dialektiker.

3. Februar 2017, die 34. Folge. Ich habe heute über den Vorschlag Stefans von "Kritik" und den Vorschlag Günters von "Dialektik" als Unworte des Jahres zur Sprachhygiene nachgedacht. Mich haben diese Ideen in den letzten Tagen immer wieder beschäftigt. Ich beschäftige mich mit Unworten, Sprachhygiene, der Gefahr der "mechanischen Subsumption" selbst der Dialektik als blosses Werkzeug mit verdinglichtem ideologischen Charakter, und der Frage, wie man denn sonst damit umgehen kann. Es gibt nur einen Weg, nämlich den Weg durch die Widersprüche und Schwierigkeiten, die man mit diesen Begriffen hat. Vielleicht ist aber auch die eigentliche, je unterschiedlich beantwortete Frage, ob der Weg schon hinter einem liegt, oder noch zu gehen ist...
