Ep. 84 Season 6 of Healthy Illness Podcast is all about Mindfulness and today's episode goes deep into a trending topic on TikTok #SilentWalking Silent walking is a new term for an established mindfulness practice called mindful walking or walking meditation. Walking has many physical benefits and mental health benefits as well. Walking in silence has increased benefits like decreasing stress and anxiety as well as promoting an overall better well-being.   In this episode of the Healthy Illness podcast, Kelly Marie shares her experience with silent walking and offers tips to introduce this practice not just outside but also inside the house. However, silent walking is the practice of emerging yourself in the present moment and engaging with the things that are right in front of you. That may be seeing the cracks in the sidewalk or noticing the composition of the trail that you're on.  It can be noting what the trees look like or how many people are out on the street today. It's really all about focusing on your surroundings versus focusing on distractions like music or talking to someone to pass the time away. To get started, the experts recommend keeping things simple:  Walk in a nearby quiet area, hopefully somewhere in nature or outdoors. It's also best to pick a time when you know there will be minimal people or activity around that area to distract you. Take care of basic bodily needs, such as thirst and hunger, beforehand, so they don't become a distraction.  Make sure it's just you and your thoughts. No phone, no walking buddy, no dog. Focus on your feelings, breathing and the surrounding beauty. Be mindful of each breath and each step, listen to the sounds of nature around you, feel gratitude for the sun kissing your skin, and use the time for reflection.

Ep. 82 Running or hiding from a memory or past trauma is often necessary until you are mentally and emotionally equipped to face it. It happens through hormonal and physiological changes that allow you to act quickly so you can protect yourself.  The fight-flight-freeze response is a type of stress response that helps you react to perceived threats, like an oncoming car or a growling dog. It's a survival instinct that our ancient ancestors developed many years ago. It's been 10 years since Kelly Marie's last suicide attempt. This is the first time she's forgotten the anniversary. August and the beginning of September are usually emotionally sensitive for her but this year has not had the same impact.  What's also common is forced remembrance. Making you or someone else remember a time they would otherwise forget. Kelly Marie practiced forced remembrance in order to remain on an active healing path.  This may not be the healthiest practice and is one that she is no longer pushing herself to participate in. By offering yourself grace, patience and kindness while you build emotional safety you are creating an internal safe space to process, grow and heal. If you have already reached the active healing milestone, hold space for folks doing their best to get there. Together we can all #bethelight.

Maybe there's another diagnosis that is a better fit, like complex post-traumatic stress disorder (CPTSD). Living with a mental health illness or condition isn't an easy journey. Episode 56 Kelly Marie must choose between her mental health and physical health on the anniversary of her suicide attempt.  In this episode, you will learn the following: 1. What happens when physical and mental health collide?  2. Is mental health a journey or a destination? 3. How to ask for help, even when you don't want to.   Welcome to Season 5 of Living the Front Seat Life Podcast! September is Suicide Awareness Month and we will spend some time talking about suicide, learning the warning signs and how to navigate your mental health in crisis.   "It's a journey. It's living a front seat life." - Kelly Marie I was on vacation in Ocean City, Maryland, when I hurt myself. I was determined to enjoy myself, despite the pain. When I got back, I had a busy work schedule and I was focused on that. I didn't have time to think about the fact that September 3rd was the anniversary of my suicide attempt. On September 2nd, I fell down my stairs and was in a lot of pain. I contemplated going to the hospital, but didn't want to end up in the same room I woke up in nine years earlier. I decided to wait and see my doctor. I was glad I did, because I was able to avoid going to that hospital. This experience was a reminder that I am still on my mental health journey and that I have to take care of myself.   Mental Health Resources  Dial 988 and talk to a trained crisis counselor 24/7  Text GO to 741741 to reach a trained crisis counselor by text   Hosted by Coach Kelly Marie, founder of Front Seat Life LLC IG @thefrontseatlife FB @thefrontseatlife Email FrontSeatLife@gmail.com    Postproduction by Jazzy T and JazzCast Pros   IG @Jazzytonair FB @JazzCastPros   Follow us on Podchaser: the social network for podcasts.   Click Here to rate & review on Apple Podcast  Follow or Share this Podcast from Spotify Add this show to your collection on Pandora.
