It's hot as hell in NYC this week, which is apt for this particularly hellish episode! Austin, Rob, and Cado discuss some of their recent games of Hell Let Loose, and the different ways the tactical layer can (and will) break down. Then Austin and Cado check out Jupiter Hell, an isometric ranged combat based “traditional” roguelike, which translates FPS mechanics into its tile and turned based gameplay. After the break, we enter the atomic hell of the exclusion zone in Chernobylite, where Austin and Rob are finding ways to make the zone a little more cozy. Then Austin introduces us into a whole new hell of … librarians that turn unsuspecting visitors into books? Library of Ruina's deck building and card game mechanics may seem inscrutable at first, but at least you have a sick soundtrack to listen to while you figure them out! Then the crew takes a dip in the question bucket to learn about what Pokemon Rob is, Bread, and parents who love Christmas pranks.Discussed: Hell Let Loose 4:14, Jupiter Hell 27:50, Chernobylite 45:47, Banners of Ruin 1:03:50, Library of Ruina 1:08:35, The Question Bucket 1:24:13 See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
this week Mattie and Austin have to flee our unventilated and poorly insulated recording studio/ oddly shaped walk-in closet due to extreme heat. but we adapted, overcame, and recorded an episode that only sounds a little like we recorded in a cave. because we do in fact live in a cave. We probably should've mentioned that earlier. Then we get into Part 2 of 3 of Mattie's segment of the Mercury 13, and how it became a toxic dramatic workplace, a bit of a reality TV show, and witness one of the top 10 power moves I have ever seen in history. like better than when Caesar came back and executed the pirates that kidnapped him. Then Austin talks about Mt Rushmore. It is more than just an underwhelming tourist trap in the middle of South Dakota. it is insulting to Native Americans on so many levels And the sculptor has some pretty shocking ties to the worst people in America. This week, Austin reveals the true horror of being married to Mattie. She made him watch Rent. The Movie version. It was bad, consider this a content warning. for Rent. Then Mattie gives us helpful life skill information that we should've learned in school but were not taught and goes in-depth about what is and isn't covered by HIPAA ( The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) and what your rights are. Naturally, Austin gets distracted by bees. Then Austin talks about something he did learn about and is super salty that people take it seriously. The Philosophy of Ayn Rand (Austin refuses to learn how to correctly pronounce her name) and why it is dumb and the people who follow it are probably assholes who just identify with her Capitalism fan fiction Mary Sue characters and have never actually thought about the content of the books. Tangents include Psychics, Crystals, Bees, Sex Sent Me To the ER, and Katanas.
We're back! Back again with the Backyardigans (I don't know where this trend started, but I'm not complainin') and comin' in with a classic just the crew episode. Don't worry though, we have guest episodes in the chamber with some returning favorites! This one starts weird, goes nerdy, and then ends with Austin almost passing out from pain and laughter. He may have busted his ribs skating with Wes, and now the crew is using him like a comedy voodoo doll. First up, Wes dives deep and explains the history of magic and the current state of the modern magic industry. I know, super nerdy. Later on we even watch some performances for live explanations of how they are done! Then Austin and Honesty tag team us with a story about how Austin misinterpreted texts from her. Lets just say there is some singing in this episode featuring our favorite alien conspiracy theorist. Then we get the story of how the ribs got busted as we head into our TikTok Section! This one is full of dad toks, fart jokes, and that backyaridgans trend from earlier! Finally, we get a bit nostalgic and remember old books we loved as kids. Except for Austin, cus he doesn't read. We get flat with Flat Stanley, and remember how legitimately scary some of the old Scooby Doo movies were (looking at you Zombie Island). Friends pop up in the live chat and get us talking about cuticles and other body parts. Like taints, for example. We explore why it is that most men enjoy their various smells, and then we tell Wes he needs to shower more.. like god damn. All of this, and much more, only on BSFTB! This week after discussing 90's movies with really scary monkeys Mattie and Austin go in two very different directions with their topics this week. Mattie talks about the lost colony of Roanoke and how it wasn't as lost as we were taught it was. She also gets struck by the Roanoke curse as several paragraphs of her notes mysteriously got deleted. Because we got too close to the truth. Then Austin manages to not get thrown off-topic by sex cults and finally talks about Freud. and More importantly what Freud got wrong and lives forever in our pop culture. Finally, we have a little announcement. We are changing our format for the next few months. with increased obligations with the world opening up after Covid and Mattie starting a new job, we will be only doing one topic a week and switching back and forth between Mattie and Austin. We plan on going back to the old format soon, but we just needed to scale back the amount of time we spend on research for a bit while we figure out our new schedules. This week Mattie and Austin ramble a bit more than usual. Austin thinks it is because Quarantimes have driven us completely insane, Mattie thinks it is because we drank a TON of caffeine before recording. We may never know the truth. Mattie starts us off this week by going into the subtle nuances of Truth, fact, and lies. it is not as cut and dry as we like to think it is. Then Austin tells us all about air pollution and its long history. Seriously. Thousands of years.
Woohoo! no recording problems this week! and we have a good one for you.Mattie goes into the history of bathing, why some adolescents refuse to bathe, and how we are bathing wrong. Well, bathing wrong according to dermatologists. Mattie and Austin have their own uninformed and strong opinions. Then Austin talks about the Hope diamond. The shiny rock that disappointed Austin as a child and he never forgave it for this. Is it really cursed? You'll have to listen to find out.
Austin and Joel recap the Super Bowl from the legend of Tom Brady to the Bucs' incredible defensive performance to the controversial officiating and hilarious partying. Then Austin rubs the Dodgers' Trevor Bauer signing in Joel's face and the guys discuss the Celtics' inconsistencies and LeBron James' MVP bid. Make sure to subscribe and follow @FrienemiesPod on Twitter and Instagram!
This week we get down to business, and by get down to business we mean Austin talks about a squirrel and Mattie buys a stock. Then Austin tells us about The Amber Room and his get rich quick scheme of finding a legendary lost Russian treasure that was stolen by Nazis. A plan that is about as likely to work as winning the lottery.and Mattie goes into the psychology of why we love horror movies and how liking them doesn't turn you into a psychopath.Twitter: @onthetestpodFacebook: Facebook.com/onthetestpodInsta: @onthetestpodonthetestpod.com
Mattie is back with a topic this week and she channels her rage into a scathing look at the racism, sexism, and transphobia rampant in school dress codes. Then Austin tries to lighten the mood with a listener suggestion topic. But unfortunately, the topic is Nazis and the time they tried to overthrow the government in 1923. 10 years before Hitler became the German Chancellor. We also talk about the inauguration, what kind of reality TV we think Barack Obama watches, and hear Austin do his incredibly bad Obama impression. Twitter: @onthetestpodFacebook: Facebook.com/onthetestpodInsta: @onthetestpodonthetestpod.com
This week Mattie and Austin were super exhausted after some late-night cat medical drama (don't worry, the cat is fine) but powered through and brought you a super depressing episode.Mattie talks about the reverse freedom rides. an attempt to make northern states that were outspoken against segregation look hypocritical by using the most vulnerable parts of our population as pawns. Then Austin talks about the ongoing problem of antisemitism, and how Henry Ford helped spread it.Socials:Twitter: @onthetestpodFacebook: Facebook.com/onthetestpodInsta: @onthetestpodonthetestpod.com
This week you get to hear Mattie talk about three cueing and MSV, why we use it, and why we should not teach reading this way. It turns out we are doing everything wrong and it is horrifying. Then Austin talks about a French 15th Century child murderer and gets dangerously close to turning this whole mess into a true-crime podcast. Austin insists that there is some historical value to his topic, Mattie disagrees. We also talk about horror movies, and how a guy flashed Austin in the park. it has been a wild week y'all.Follow us on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram:Twitter: @onthetestpodFacebook: facebook.com/onthetestpodInstagram: @onthetestpod
This week, Mattie teaches us mistakes to avoid when arguing with somebody on the internet while Austin fails to keep himself from giggling every time Mattie say fallacious. Then Austin goes into why you shouldn't be afraid of spiders, while also telling you to be afraid of spiders. We also reveal the best way to load a dishwasher and WILL fight you if you disagree. We're Back! With the full crew and firing on all cylinders, WE RETURN. Now with more video. Subscribe to our YouTube to keep track of whether or not we have the hang of this shit yet! Austin, Honesty, and Wes get together to catch up on the important things in life - Pinky swears, HOT divorce lawyers, Female metal singers, toilet cumming... as examples... Ya know? Next up, we take a moment or two and address the state of the pod, the country, and the odd reasons behind the mukbang craze. All of those tie together, trust me. We then take shots at our listeners while deep soaking in lobster butter, and then we see if our chicken peck activist has made any new content on the Tok. NONE AT ALL. Wes explains what it's like working alone, and Honesty teams up with him to make Austin feel bad. Speaking of feeling bad... Honesty loses all respect for Wes, as he attempts to defend the EXACT WRONG comedic take. Meanwhile, Austin gets away with murder. #wherearethebodies? Finally. the boys realize they are both terrible and lazy and invent a game to play on the spot. Planning and forethought be damned! Then Austin confirms what Wes thought all along. You are NOT alone, fellow toiler-cummer. We do it too! Avatar the last air bender is on Netflix and we have some feelings about it. Faith almost likes anime. Then Austin and Faith talk more about Avatar, much more about Avatar. The couple also talks about how they are on the Animal Crossing, hard. Is it the best video game around? Probably not, but some of the other games we talk about might be. On this episode of “Shenanigans On Sheridan” Chris spends half of the episode not talking about his Shenanigan. He instead spends his time ranking the dogs in the apartment. It’s not a beauty contest, but Charles would win either way. Then Candy. Then Cole. Then Addison. Then Austin. Then Chris. But again, not a beauty contest, but Chris would finish last in that contest as well. He’s not a great looking dog. He definitely is a dog, but not a good looking one. I feel like he would be a thorough bred pit bull, bred to be tough, aggressive and intense, but is weirdly deformed.Don't forget to email us your Shenanigans at: shenanigansonsheridan@gmail.com for a chance for your Shenanigan to be read on air.
If you’re into fresh, locally-sourced food and connecting with nature, join us as our group forages for wild foods. Then Austin chef and author Jesse Griffiths cooks them into an awesome meal. All this freshness takes place at ecological showpiece Llano Springs Ranch, part of the new Explore Ranches conservation enterprise.
Three major embargoes dropped today, so we're gonna dive straight in! Rob brings us his thoughts on Control, and how it's wild lore is integrated in a satisfying way, much more satisfying than Destiny, a game he hasn't played since 2017, that has totally stayed the same since then and not at all delivered on any of it's lore. [/s] Then Austin talks about the parts of Astral Chain that he can talk about, which apparently don't include some of his favorite missions because embargoes can be weird! Patrick checks back in with Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey. Cado played some Destiny, but you probably already knew that. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
This week on Waypoint Radio we're getting political. Patrick, Cado, and Austin are all playing Fire Emblem: Three Houses, and we get into who picked the right house. Who's to say whether a monarchy or a ruling class is better? Rob's got some ideas that seem to be backed by historical knowledge, but Cado thinks it's Sophie's choice, honestly. We also discuss the messy tutorialization: why does it explain a combat mechanic during downtime? What's with all of these unexplained mechanics? Why do they turn off the enemy's attack range after the first mission? Then Austin and Cado talk about the games and panels they saw as last weekend's Game Devs of Color Expo. Come for the surreal RPGs, stay for the rubber fish controler. Rob's computer then breaks so the rest of the crew discuss the wild story of how Fire Emblem: Thracia 776 was translated by fans over the span of 20 years. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
With the Netflix release of Neon Genesis Evangelion around the corner, we're rereleasing our conversation on the landmark series' first two episodes from Waypoints 10. The team examines the first two episodes, with Rob, Patrick, and Danielle giving their first ever impressions of the series, struck by it's narrative structure and striking visuals. Then Austin leads them through a discussion of the show's predecessors, it's troubled production, and complicated readings. We will be back next week with a new episode of Waypoints discussing more episodes! See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
In this episode Mr. AKA sits down with guest regular Austin Whitaker (Kizer of Rise Of The Gamers). This Episode we have an open convo about the Rise Of The Gamers Channel and future plans for streams. We then discuss Austins pickiness with food. Then Austin opens up about some of his up bringing to a concerned Anthem. Today's podcast starts off course and then, somehow, takes an even more unexpected turn. Natalie brings us a live update fresh from her 6:30 AM showing of Avengers: Endgame and last week's Tribeca Film Festival Death Stranding panel. Rob whisks us way to the ancient world with Imperator: Rome. Then Austin and Patrick pause the podcast so that they can report a breaking story: the news that employees at Riot Games are threatening to walk out in protest of recently reported policies at the League of Legends developer. With that handled, the podcast returns for discussion of organized labor, classic gaming guilds, and, of course, everyone's favorite soda.Discussed: Avengers: Endgame (No Spoilers, don't worry), Hideo Kojima, Norman Reedus, Death Stranding, Imperator: Rome, Riot Games, League of Legends See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

It's a thing, watch the movie, they spend most of the episode talking about it. They also listen to albums by Queen and Missy Elliott and a song by Tori Amos. We're back and we've moved to a new space! The boys have some audio issues and Wes has some speech issues... Don't worry though, it's still pretty great. We jump back into a story that listeners had a lot to say about, and we dive a little deeper into the philosophical issues with anti natilism. Wes even found a helpful wiki-how article on it! Next, We cover a related story about a group of women who refuse to give birth until we do something about climate change. Will it change things? Are they Anti natilist as well? Then Austin shows a side of himself that Wes really enjoys, and we reminisce a little. Also, what's the weirdest food combination that you've created?
