Dans le sol et le sous-sol pour commencer. Il en émane en effet un gaz découvert par Marie Curie, le radon. Elle a repéré ce gaz incolore et inodore au cours de ses recherches sur le radium, car il provient de la désintégration de cet élément radioactif.Le radon peut se diffuser dans les logements à partir des caves.
