For some, it's become an obsession, with many attempts being made to find it over the years. Some have warned the train likely doesn't contain any gold or treasures. Instead, they posit that it was loaded with chemical agents the Nazis were transporting to Berlin in a final attempt to stop the Soviet Red Army. Steve Berry has over 25 million books in print in 40 languages. His first three novels were stand-alone thrillers, The Amber Room, The Romanov Prophecy, and Third Secret. Unfortunately, war is destructive, and war with Nazis can be extremely destructive, and during WWII the room was lost. But lost where? Destroyed, on a wrecked ship at the bottom of the ocean, or locked away in some secret catacombs somewhere. On this week's episode, we'll tell you about the history of the Amber Room and the different theories of what actually happened to it.

PICASSO PAINTING PRESENTED FOR AUCTION: Kathleen reads a bulletin from Christie's Auction House that Picasso’s “Woman Sitting Near A Window” is being offered for auction in May 2021. The piece is forecasted to fetch $55 million, but Kathleen places a bet that the winning bid will exceed $100 million. CANNIBALISTIC SETTLERS: Kathleen discusses the premise of the documentary “The Donner Party,” which chronicles the pilgrimage of the Joseph Donner family and 11 other families who made the journey over the Sierra Nevada mountain range to California in 1846. The story outlines the issues they faced making the journey, including a massive snowstorm that stopped the wagon train for weeks and the resulting cannibalism when they ran out of food. Kathleen is fascinated by the details, and points out that even over 100 years ago there were assholes in every society that “showed out,” but back then the asset was a double-decker wagon. TINY TURKISH CASTLE VILLAGE: Kathleen reads an article describing the Turkish town of Burj Al Babas, which was constructed for foreign buyers and broke ground in 2014. Then, Kyle talks about a recent sighting of a large bioluminescent flying Bat Man seen in Guyana, South America. Then, Cam tells a horrific story of a man abducted and then killed by a Sasquatch back in the 1970s. After the break Cam tells the strange story about the lost Amber Room! During WWII, Hitler’s Nazis stole some 600,000 pieces of art from across Europe. By the end of the war, billions of pounds worth of artwork had been scattered to the four winds, the Nazi looting had been on an industrial scale. Whilst some pieces of stolen art have been returned to their rightful owners, many are still missing, including a priceless collection of stunning amber panels, known as the Amber Room - perhaps the most valuable items ever looted by the fascist regime. The room was called the ‘Eighth Wonder of the World’ and one of Russia’s most treasured artifacts. After its looting, the room was returned to Germany and put on display, but it disappeared in the closing months of the war. Its fate is one of the greatest mysteries of WWII. The Amber Room was an ornate chamber decorated in custom crafted amber panels backed with gold leaf and mirrors and located in the Catherine Palace in Tsarke Selo near St. Petersburg. It was a gift from Prussia to Russia in the 18th century in order to promote an alliance against Sweden. It was stolen from the palace by Nazi Germany in WWII and moved to Konigsberg Castle in Germany, where some say it was destroyed by either Soviet or RAF bombing raids which destroyed most of that city. Konigberg was annexed by Russia and is called Kaliningrad. today. Many theories exist regarding the fate of the Amber Room and we cover them here, as well as provide additional research on Swedish and Argentine financing of the Nazi war machine, the sinking of the Wilhelm Gusloff with nearly 9,000 refugees onboard (and possibly the Amber Room in crates), and German theft of many priceless pieces of art, some of which were recovered by the "Monuments Men", and others which are still missing. The Amber room was a treasure of the Tsars, given to Peter the Great by King Frederick William I of Prussia. The room was looted by the Nazis during the invasion of the USSR and lost to history. Was it destroyed as most think, or is it still hidden away waiting to be found.

When you think of amber you probably think of the casing that held the dinosaur DNA in Jurassic Park or maybe even jewelry. But you probably do not associate amber with building material. Amber was incredibly popular in Europe, especially in Russia and as a gift to Peter the Great, the Amber Room was constructed using several tons of the gemstone. During Operation Barbarosa the room was looted by Nazis, dismantled and sent to Germany, where just before the war's end, it disappeared.
