Mayday! Mayday! We listen to some of the oral arguments in a pivotal Supreme Court case heard Wednesday about whether a private Catholic charter school can be funded with public money. If allowed, this would deal a serious blow to public education. After reporting on state/church news in Oklahoma, Louisiana and Texas, and decrying Attorney General Pam Bondi's “Eradicating Anti-Christian Bias” Task Force, we talk with Swedish humanist Christer Sturmark, author of the book To Light the Flame of Reason: Clear Thinking for the Twenty-First Century.

Today the guys talk about the impressions they have from the characters Rem and Misa Amane, the latter arguably being the most iconic alternative emo / gothic chick to ever step off from the pages of manga and into a hot topic. Skip synopsis @ 3:13 Email: WeAppreciateManga@Gmail.com 091: Death Note vol. 4 - Love Story by Tsugumi Ohba Art by Takeshi Obata Translation by Alexis Kirsch Lettering by Gia Cam Luc The detective L has Light Yagami join him on the investigation of the fake Kira. Light, realising he is suspected as the real Kira, cannot afford to say anything but tell L that he thinks there are two Kiras. Light soon figures out the hidden meaning behind the second Kira's message to the real Kira and heads to Aoyama in hopes of more information but is unexpectedly discovered by the second Kira, a young woman by the name of Misa Amane. After gathering enough information on Light, Misa watches a broadcast from the police, addressing the second Kira and begging for her own safety not to contact the real Kira. Upon seeing this Misa walks out of her house and goes to visit Light. She reveals her death God, Rem, to him and the fact that she has the sight of a death God (a.k.a. Shinigami eyes). Which means she can see anyone's name by looking at their face except for other Death Note users. Misa declares her love for Light and soon both Light and Misa make a truce in order to kill L. Before L retreats he spends time with Light at his university. To Light's surprise, Misa makes an appearance and Light introduces Misa to L as Hideki Ryuga. Once separate from them, Light uses a private cellphone to call Misa and acquire L's real name to put in his Death Note with the intention of killing him. However, the person who answers the phone is none other than L, having pick-pocketed Misa before she left. Misa is arrested and detained on suspicion as the second Kira. Whilst restrained Misa, relinquishes her ownership of her Death Note to Rem and in turn her memories of anything related to the Death Note are taken from her. Rem visits Light, informing him of the situation and demanding that he save Misa from suspicion. (And when a god death starts making demands; that is when you should really listen) In response Light hands himself in to be detained and put under surveillance. Telling L that he may be unconsciously acting as Kira. suspects that this is all an act from Light and some sort of ploy in order to prove that his innocence. Yet L obliges, deeming it as the best course of action despite it being Light's wish. Facebook Instagram Twitter Official Website Email
Today we cover a more modern book. In this episode we look at what Bishop Barron says about proclaiming the Gospel in a secular age. Bishop Robert Barron is an excellent commentator on the intersection of the Church with modern life. This is and his other works are definitely worth digging into. https://www.amazon.com/Light-Fire-Earth-Proclaiming-Secular/dp/152475952X/ref=sr_1_1?crid=3317WQFYXPEOA&keywords=to+light+a+fire+on+the+earth+robert+barron&qid=1663276706&sprefix=To+Light+a+Fire%2Caps%2C131&sr=8-1 Barron, Robert, and John L. Today I have the absolute pleasure of sharing with you my conversation that I got to have with the wonderful Kayla Craig. Kayla is the author and creator of Liturgies for Parents, as well as her recent book To Light the Way: A Collection of Prayers and Liturgies for Parents. Today, Kayla shares the introduction of liturgical prayers into her faith life as she was up to her eyes in a situation where one of her children's lives was hanging in the balance. Someone gave her a book of prayers that helped anchor her in that season when she was exhausted, scared, wrestling and desperately needed the Lord, but didn't know how to find the words to pray. The prayers she found in that book of those who had been heartbroken and in desperate need of hope from the Father before, gave her the words she needed right when she needed them. From that experience, she began to pour out her heart and write real life prayers, for real life people walking through the good, bad and the ugly of being a broken human raising broken humans. Kayla invites us to soak in the deep love of God, and to see it in all things because His presence is in all things. Kayla also shares what her experience of being a parent of a blended family with a medically fragile daughter, as well as her black, brown and white siblings, and how her faith has been pushed to parent by faith, and to show that faith to her kids. As you walk into your Thanksgiving week, I hope this episode encourages you and helps you to know that no matter what you are walking in to this holiday season, you'll know how much God loves you, is near to you, and that you are not alone. I pray wherever this episode finds you friend, that you remember 3 things: The Lord will complete the work He has begun in you. It is never too late for that journey to begin in you. Alcohol is and will forever be a setup to make us believe our lives will be6beyyer when in all honesty it's just not true. Take it from someone who has overcome a life of alcohol abuse after drinking for 15 years. When I drank for the for time it was as if someone opened a door that had been locked for years so I never wanted to lose that feeling but the cost that came with the feeling was far more difficult. Alcohol is a setup to make you think that staying high, forgetting the hurt and feeling no pain is better than getting help. Why? That's what Deception is and does. Alcohol abuse will have you believing sobriety is too much work so stay in the dark place because at least you know what to expect...Again DECEPTION. Listen how I discovered how to turn my life of darkness with alcohol abuse To Light with God and Sobriety. You won't regret it! --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/connie-mcmillan/support

Pawn of Prophecy | Chapter 13 Where Sondra gets witchy and rolls her eyes at the poseur priestess, Alysia defends her daughter’s magical childhood, and they both get reverent about the power of words. Time for Garion observe Silk’s inner turmoil, be denied entry to the meeting of monarchs and relegated to the armory (which is totally preferred over the scullery), and get curious about the dude in the green cloak. Random fact: Cilices were originally made from sackcloth or coarse animal hair so they would irritate the skin. Other features were added to make cilices more uncomfortable, such as thin wires or twigs. Cilices have been used for centuries in the Catholic Church as a mild form of bodily penance akin to fasting and the practise is more widespread than many observers imagine. In his new book, To Light a Fire on the Earth, Bishop Barron shares the story of his own spiritual formation as a young man coming of age after Vatican II, who is then called to preach to a secular world. Thankfully, the bishop was guided by great men who, despite the tide of secularism and moral relativism, embodied the steadfast spirituality, integrity, and moral rectitude that informs a heroic priesthood. In this episode of the Word On Fire Show, Bishop Barron discusses the impact of five key figures in his life, beginning with his father, John Clayton Barron, Sr. and ending with his late, great mentor, Cardinal Francis George of Chicago.
Bishop Barron has a new book coming out titled To Light a Fire on the Earth: Proclaiming Christ in a Secular Age. It’s a book-length conversation between Bishop Barron and John Allen, Jr., the award-winning Vatican journalist, and touches on a wide range of subjects including God, atheism, social media, prayer, beauty, and why the Church matters today. In today’s episode, John joins Bishop Barron to discuss the new book.
Join me for this illuminating interview with Parivash Rohani, who left her native country of Iran fleeing religious persecution due to her Baha'i Faith and now is an activist for social justice and freedom. Her words about the importance of standing up for what you believe in, working with other people and weaving humanity together in truth and love. Parivash Rohani left Iran and fled to India in 1979 due to religious persecution. She arrived in the United States in 1986 as an immigrant. Currently she lives in Portland with her husband and children. Professionally, she is a ICU registered nurse. She has been involved with many humanitarian, environmental, and interfaith projects. Her involvement in MIPL and International human right campaign "Education Is Not A Crime" is due to her firm conviction that change happens organically at the grass roots level, and justice demands universal participation. Parivash believes it is our moral obligation to be involved in social action and participate in the prevalent discourse of society. To Light a Candle (2014) is a film about the triumph of knowledge over intolerance. The Baha'is are Iran's largest religious minority. They are persecuted because of their faith, and barred from teaching and studying at university. But Baha'is do teach, and do study. The Baha'i Institute for Higher Education (BIHE) was established in 1987 to give young Baha'is a chance to pursue knowledge and receive a quality education The informal courses take place in people's homes, via mail correspondence, and with online lectures. The Iranian government regularly raids BIHE classes and arrests its students and teachers. Hundreds of Baha'is have been jailed simply for teaching and studying at BIHE. Yet, many Muslim Iranians support the right of the Baha'is to higher education and fight for the full enjoyment of civil and human rights by all Baha'is. Maziar Bahari's To Light a Candle is a hopeful story of the BIHE and Iran. In 2015 the film sparked the global Education Is Not A Crime campaign for universal access to higher education. The last Friday of every February will be celebrated as Education is not a Crime day. The campaign has been endorsed by a string of Nobel laureates and other prominent figures around the world.
