"When we stay awake to the glimmers in front of us, we reorient our hearts to the Everlasting Light. How often are you in survival mode, moving from one thing to the next, shoulders tight and heart heavy, just trying to make it through another day? Maybe you're caught in an unending cycle of work and worry, with little room for joy. But glimmers are always there, like the sunlight filtering through your window just so, illuminating tiny particles of dust that seem to dance in midair. These moments, small as they may seem, can help us feel safer and more grounded. Psalm 34:8 invites us to “taste and see that the Lord is good” – because when we do, we find refuge in the One who loves us and will never leave us. God is present in it all, beckoning us to experience goodness in everyday glimpses of grace."Leave a comment for Kayla: https://incourage.me/?p=248783--The fall issue of DaySpring's Everyday Faith magazine is now available! "When I read my Bible, I feel a bit like Alice in Wonderland, opening doors and going down rabbit holes, often finding more questions than answers. The more I learn, the more I wonder. The more I wonder, the more I learn. A life walking with Christ is comforting yet often confounding. The more we embrace a posture of Christian curiosity, the more our worlds get, as Lewis Caroll put it, curiouser and curiouser. You are allowed to change your mind. You don't have to draw lines in the sand and dig in your heels."Leave a comment for Kayla: https://incourage.me/?p=240753--Stay organized and inspired this school year with an (in)courage Agenda Planner & 100 Days of Strength in Any Struggle bundle! This week, we're so happy to welcome Kayla Craig, author of Every Season Sacred and the voice of the Instagram account, Liturgies for Parents, to the podcast! Kayla and Clayton are covering a topic that they're both passionate about, as parents themselves—how to bring the sacred into the every day moments and seasons of life. Join us, and find a new way to engage with God and your family in whatever season you're in right now! Top 5 Ways to Bring the Sacred into Every Day Change your habits each season. Create a "rule of life" each season to help your family stay on track and stay focused, while adjusting to the rhythms and needs of the season. Don't force the things that don't fit. Ask open-ended questions. Stay away from "yes" or "no" answers, to keep conversation flowing. Consider service and hospitality as spiritual. Don't overlook the ways you are already engaging. Start simply paying attention in those things and shifting your focus to the spiritual. Utilize breath prayers. Prayer doesn't have to be long to be meaningful! Take a breath, pray often, and you'll find those moments culminate in a day, week, and season more engaged with God in prayer. Play more. Consider this activity as a spiritual practice, too! Playing with your kids is likely the gateway to vulnerability and humility that parents need most.
"There is no one among us who hasn't tasted loneliness, who hasn't held sadness in their hands like wadded-up tissue. It's easy for us to imagine that no one else has or will hold the burdens that we do. It's so natural that I'm not even sure we realize we're doing it. We must stay tender to the humanity of others – this is the pathway to empathy, the road to compassion that we're called to as people of faith."Leave a comment for Kayla: https://incourage.me/?p=238767 --Stay organized and inspired every day of the year with an (in)courage Agenda Planner! SummaryIn this episode, Becky Keife, Kayla Craig, and Tasha Jun discuss the theme of honest prayer from the (in)courage book '100 Days of Strength in Any Struggle.' They share their personal experiences of struggling and being desperate for God's strength, and how honest prayer has helped them in those moments. They also discuss barriers to honest prayer, such as doubt and feeling like prayers are too small or selfish. They highlight the importance of journaling and the power of short, honest prayers. The episode concludes with encouragement to open the door to honest prayer and a prayer for you, the listener.TakeawaysHonest prayer is an ongoing conversation with God, where we share and receive, even when we don't have words.God wants us to pour out our hearts to Him and be honest about our struggles and doubts.Barriers to honest prayer include feeling like prayers are too small or selfish, doubting the effectiveness of prayer, and judging ourselves for our emotions.Prayer doesn't have to be long or eloquent; short and honest prayers are powerful.Opening the door to honest prayer allows us to experience God's presence, compassion, and love.--Get your copy of 100 Days of Strength in Any Struggle wherever books are sold, and find a FREE sampler from the book at incourage.me/strength!Connect with (in)courage: Facebook & Instagram for daily encouragement, videos, and more! "What if we dared to replace our insistence on self-sufficiency with stubborn hope? What if we opened ourselves up to the infinite possibilities that lie in store when we place our hope outside of ourselves? When we stop hinging our worth based on what we can (or can't) do and instead place our hope in who God is, we might just discover that we don't find true strength in our ability to go it alone but in our willingness to surrender to a grace greater than ourselves."Leave a comment for Kayla: https://incourage.me/?p=237690--This Easter, prepare your heart and home with Simply Jesus: the Hope of Easter – a new keepsake magazine from DaySpring. "When we place our hope in ourselves, we're bound to be worn out and disappointed when our striving doesn't fill the void. As Jesus gathered the disciples, He didn't tell them to list out their three goals and outline five actionable points to achieve them and then live a prosperous life. Instead, He said the opposite: 'Get away with me. And I'll show you unforced rhythms of grace.' What if, instead of using resolutions as a measuring stick for meaning, we intentionally reflect on the rhythms we integrate into the real, messy, complicated, wonderful lives we're living?"Leave a comment for Kayla: https://incourage.me/?p=236876--It's not too late to get your Word of the Year! As we enter this Advent season, we may be faced with a new way of doing things, new circumstances, or even new grief. Sometimes the words and structure of others can help bring new life to our prayers and spiritual practices. Sometimes liturgy, the set form of a religious experience, can offer a scaffolding we didn't even know we needed. We invited Kayla Craig into our conversation about the power of borrowed prayers. When someone else's words speak to our spirits, we can experience the Body of Christ in a powerful way. This time of year, Advent, lends itself especially well to introducing "borrowed prayers" into our rhythms. We remember the saints before us and those who celebrate and remember Christ's first arrival still today. As you consider what it means to introduce liturgy into your season, we pray that it gives you a rich connection to the Church and to your own practices of remembering the birth of Christ as we wait for his return. Connect with Kayla On Instagram here and here. This is her substack and her website. A few things mentioned Kayla's new book for families, Every Season Sacred: Reflections, Prayers, and to Nourish Your Soul and Nurture Your Family Throughout the Year From Strength to Strength by Arthur Brooks Great Prayer of Thanksgiving based on Luke 1:46-55 Submitted by Rev. Nathan Williams , Covenant Presbyterian Church, West Des Moines, IA liturgylink We praise your greatness, O Lord, and our spirits rejoice in you, our Savior. You looked with favor on your unlikely servant Mary, and she delivered a blessing for all generations. You, the Almighty, have done great things, and your name is ever holy. From the depth of your compassion, you gave life to Jesus, your Son, who came to show mercy on those who need you most, from generation to generation. His perfect love showed your strength, and his humility made the proud stumble. His death cast down from their thrones the powers of death, and his resurrection lifted humanity up from the lowliness of the grave. Come upon us now with your Holy Spirit, and let your power overshadow this meal, O Most High. As we share this bread and cup, fill us with the life of Jesus Christ. May we bear him into the world once again, so that we may empty ourselves of unjust wealth and fill the hungry with good things. Make us your servant people, signs of your promise of mercy, in the name of the coming Christ. We pray in his name, saying… (The Lord's Prayer) Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial, and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours, now and forever. Amen. Every Moment Holy A Liturgy for the Christmas Season Questions to consider Are borrowed prayers helpful for me? Do they feel comforting? Do they give words to my feelings and experiences? How might I experience a liturgical church service in a way that brings me closer to the saints around the world? How does my own faith story impact my worship style?

Prayer is where self-awareness meets God-awareness. I've come to cherish it as an intimate, deeply grounding practice. But I haven't always felt that way. It used to evoke anxiety and activation inside of me as I worked to earn God's favor. That's why I love this conversation with Kayla Craig, author of the new book Every Season Sacred. In this candid conversation, we talk about prayer in a fresh new way that will transform how you practice it. Here's what we cover: 1. Scientific research into the effectiveness of prayer (3:57) 2. What prayer is (11:19) 3. How to pray when your emotions are chaotic (38:43) 4. Calming your nervous system (37:25) vs. hail mary prayers (10:44) 5. Different types of prayer (33:02) Check out Kayla's new book Every Season Sacred: Reflections, Prayers, and Invitations to Nourish Your Soul and Nourish Your Family Throughout the Year Find a full transcript and list of resources from this episode here. Adam Holz of Plugged In looks at the new faith-based movies "The Blind" and "Surprised by Oxford" that both feature harder, grittier depictions of human brokenness. This realism may shock some, but it also has the benefit of showing God's redemptive work. Kayla Craig, author of "Every Season Sacred," talks about the importance to living into the seasons, including the seasons of your life and your family's life. Kayla Craig joined us on For Real in our very first season. I loved her then and love her still, so I'm stoked she agreed to talk with me again. Kayla is a writer, a great question generator, a podcaster, a mother, and she writes the words I can't seem to find some days when I'm talking about and with God. I love the way Kayla stubbornly and persistently invites the holy into ordinary moments and how she does that beautifully in her new book, Every Season Sacred, and in this conversation. If you're a parent, how do you nurture and guide your children? If you're a pastor or leader, are you truly creating an environment that draws kids to Jesus? The responsibility of stewarding young hearts can feel immense, but the good news is: you don't have to figure it out alone. Today's guest is author Kayla Craig, whose new book, Every Season Sacred, is a collection of practical tools and reflective prayers to help families build a culture of discipleship in the ebb and flow of everyday life. Kayla speaks candidly with Steve Carter about the chaos of family schedules and the mystery of finding God in the midst of daily commutes, fast food drive-thrus, and the scattered moments of the day一all of which are opportunities to be intentional with our kids. This episode will inspire and equip you to lead your children well, in a way that works best for your stage of life. "We can embrace the fantastic, messy, holy mysteries of faith in every season. Borrow this prayer: O God of mystery, hear our prayer. Comfort us in our doubts. Give us peace when we don't know what comes next. We know our lives are but a vapor, but we also know that in the mist, You are there. Help us to live into the mystery of a life of faith. Let us embrace the beauty in the unknowing. Give our family the courage to admit what we do not know and faith to trust You with our questions. In our wondering and in our wandering, we believe in what we cannot see. Amen. May God lead you and your family into rhythms of grace this fall – and in all the seasons to come."Leave a comment for Kayla and enter to WIN a copy of her new book: https://incourage.me/?p=235000--The fall issue of DaySpring's Everyday Faith Magazine is out on newsstands! Today I have the absolute joy of sharing with you my conversation with Kayla Craig. Kayla is a modern liturgist as the woman behind Liturgies for Parents online. She is a Mama of 4, a supportive pastor's wife, and just this week she released her second book Every Season Sacred. In our conversation today, you'll get to hear Kayla's heart as she shares about what it looks like to pursue an honest and abundant life full of wonder and work. In all the spaces she occupies, she offers an open invitation to be curious, to express our questions, doubts, or confusion as we walk out our faith journeys, and to see the Lord make Himself known no matter where we are. Her first book To Light Their Way is a book of liturgies for everyday life and real-life parenting feelings, celebrations, issues, and places that are hard to parent through. (It is a personal favorite in my home and in walking life out with my friends and family). Her most recent book Every Season Sacred is an offering to still engage your faith life in your parenting journey and faith conversations with your kids, no matter where they lie. This book isn't a formulaic way to do faith and family. It is what Kayla would call a “hand hold” for wherever you are. It is for you as well as your kiddos. It is practical and applicable, but also invitational and gracious. What you find in these pages is flexible for application while living your actual life and can easily be incorporated in an intentional, but parent life-sized way. There are prayers for all kinds of life experiences, and hold space for each of your unique kids to respond (or not respond) uniquely. I can't wait for you to hear more about it and just find yourself encouraged by Kayla today. You don't have to do this parenting thing perfectly or shoot just the living life thing, perfectly. As Kayla reminded us, we are all in process and working out the hard things in our life, whether people realize it or share it or not. You are not alone, God is with you. And you matter. Your story matters. Sometimes life can feel like it is moving so fast we hardly have the time to nurture ourselves-- especially if we are parents. Kayla Craig, author of Liturgies for Parents, talks to us about her new book inviting us to take a deep breath and nourish ourselves alongside our children.
The Still Becoming Podcast is back! And I can't imagine a better guest to kick this return and season off with! I am so excited to have author Kayla Craig back on the podcast! You might know Kayla already from her beautiful book To Light Their Way, and as the creator of Liturgies for Parents Instagram account. Kayla has a new book out today: Every Season Sacred. It is SO good. There are so many reasons I love Kayla's work, but here are a few: Kayla meets us in the mess of our real ordinary lives, and shows us the extraordinary and sacred that that meets us there. Kayla is all at once incredibly approachable and practically helpful, while pointing to the beauty, mystery, and undeniable hope God's presence and love provides. She points us to the truth of faith and spirituality right here in our everyday chaos. In a time when it may be hard for many to find voices in the Christian faith they feel they can trust, Kayle for me, and so many others, is an anchoring voice. Kayla reminds us that we are the beloved of God, and describes her hopes for this book as an exhale. And, it truly is. We are invited to be present in this book, and in this conversation with Kayla. Kayla is just wonderful, as a person and author, and I can't wait for you to get to hang out with her in this episode. It is always a joy to be joined by one of our Christian Parenting Podcast Network hosts. Each host brings something special to the network and Kayla Craig is no exception! She has a heart for helping families slow down and grow spiritually alongside each other. Kayla is the host of the podcast, Liturgies for Parents and the author of To Light Their Way. Her new book is called Every Season Sacred and it's an invitation for families to slow down, ask questions, and grow closer to Jesus in an intentional way.Today Kayla and I talk about the difference between being a consumer Christian and a Christian who is active in faith and relationship with Jesus, how to care for our own souls so we can live into our values and bring our kids into a faith journey, and how family faith rhythms and liturgies can help us connect with Jesus and each other as a family.I really love the question she challenges us to think about for our own families: what do we want people to see in our family that makes them realize we are different as followers of Jesus?Connect with KaylaInstagram:@kayla_craig@liturgiesforparentsWebsite:https://kaylacraig.com/Podcast:https://kaylacraig.com/podcast/Every Season Sacredhttps://kaylacraig.com/newbook/Our Sponsors:* Check out HelloFresh: https://www.hellofresh.com/Privacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

Expressing joy is not weak. As we journey through life and experience many losses of our own, we can start to hedge our emotions – tamper down our experiences of joy, stifle the emotions we can barely put words to. But what if, in that masking of self, we are also preventing ourselves from experiencing the joy God has given us? What if, in our hopes of not being “too much,” in our efforts of being “put together,” we are missing gifts from God? What if our inhibitions are blocking us from experiencing the full spectrum of what it is to be human, what it is to be a beloved child of God?"Leave a comment for Kayla: https://incourage.me/?p=234213--Plan out your next year of Bible studies with the (in)courage Create in Me a Heart of study collection! We know is our job to nurture and guide our children's faith, but it's so hard when we are trying to figure it out for ourselves at the same time. Then we add on packed schedules, education, and jobs and it feels impossible to flourish spiritually. Today Kayla and I talk about what it looks like to teach our kids to see themselves and their calling as Jesus sees it and to step away from having all the answers into learning and growing together.
