It's gotten a lot harder to find solid, progressive journalism in the face of social media bans on Canadian news. But there is some good news! A brand-new independent media platform launched last month. Unrigged.ca is a non-profit journalistic collaboration featuring 20 publishers of online articles and op-eds, print magazines, community newspapers, and podcasts covering news and current events from across Canada. We speak with Andre Goulet, one of the people behind the project.

Canadian journalism has been struggling for quite a while, with layoffs and local newspapers closing shop. Facebook's reaction to the Online News Act and has added a layer of difficulty for independent news, who will lose a key platform for sharing their content. Can working together save independent journalism? On today's episode we talked to Andre Goulet and Eric Wickham about their new initiative that brings together news from 20 independent, local, regional, and national media outlets from across Canada. She has since become a successful business leader with experience in commercial banking, law, publicity, marketing, event planning and publishing.  Kambri is also a renowned storyteller and the author of the critically acclaimed and New York Times best selling memoir Burn Down the Ground (Penguin Random House) which was adapted into a LifeTime documentary “Family Secrets” and was recently optioned by an Academy Award winner. Kambri is also a public speaker, focusing on areas such as Deaf culture, domestic violence and criminal justice.  Currently Kambri is the sole owner and operator of a successful comedy club Q.E.D.  and serves as a volunteer with the Fortune Society.
