He has built a legacy of using his voice for those without one. His radio program, “The Joe Madison Show,” airs nationally weekday mornings on SiriusXM's Urban View channel 126. During his four-hour program, Mr. Madison, also known as “The Black Eagle,” talks about political and social issues, brings attention to social injustices around the world, and challenges himself and his listeners daily to “do something about it.” Named one of Talkers magazine's 100 Most Important Talk Radio Hosts nine times, often in the top 10, Mr. Madison has interviewed world leaders, including President Barack Obama in the Oval Office, among other notable guests. A native of Dayton, Ohio, Mr. Madison was raised by his grandparents. In the mid-1960s, he attended Wisconsin State, where he was captain of his undefeated freshman football team. As a student leader, he became involved in the civil rights movement. His coach, resenting Mr. Madison's campus activism, removed him from the team. Eventually, Mr. Madison received a welcoming call from the athletic director at Washington University, who offered him a spot on the Bears football team. A sociology major, he was an all-conference running back on the football team, a baritone soloist in the university choir and a disc jockey at the campus radio station. He earned a bachelor's degree in 1971, the first in his family to do so. After becoming active in the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), Mr. Madison, at age 24, was named executive director — the youngest — of the NAACP's 10,000-member Detroit chapter in 1974. He was promoted in 1986 by the NAACP's president, Benjamin Hooks, to serve as the organization's national political director. Among the highlights of his eight-year tenure, he organized a successful boycott of Dearborn, Michigan, businesses over a racist city law, and he led hundreds of volunteers on a series of successful voter registration marches, including a cross-country “march for dignity” from Los Angeles to Baltimore that also garnered thousands of signatures for an anti-apartheid bill in Congress. In 1986, he was elected to the NAACP s Board of Directors, a position he held for 14 years. In the midst of his civil rights work, he started another career in 1980 as a socially conscious radio talk show personality on Detroit's WXYZ-AM. He went on to host talk shows in Philadelphia and Washington, D.C. The popularity of his WOL-AM show led to syndication on the Radio One Talk Network and eventually to SiriusXM. A tenacious leader in the cause for social justice, he uses his show as a platform for inspiring action on critical issues. He brought international attention to human rights abuses in southern Sudan from his three trips to the country in the middle of its second civil war. Working with the Swiss-based Christian Solidarity International, he helped free 7,000 Sudanese being held as slaves. In February 2015, he broke the Guinness World Record for “longest marathon hosting a radio talk show” (52 hours live), raising over $250,000 for the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture. In June 2015, Mr. Madison made history again by broadcasting live from Cuba, becoming the first American radio host to do so in more than 50 years. In 2019, Madison received an honorary Doctor of Laws degree from Washington University for his work as a groundbreaking radio personality and human rights activist. In November 2019, Madison was inducted into the Radio Hall of Fame. He has not forgotten the opportunities he received as a Washington University student and continues to give back to his alma mater. A member of the William Greenleaf Eliot Society, he has generously supported scholarships, athletics and the university's Gephardt Institute for Civic and Community Engagement. For the past two decades, he has interviewed potential students for the admissions office. In 2017, he received Arts & Sciences' Distinguished Alumni Award. A board member of the American Red Cross, his other awards include the Southern Christian Leadership Conference Journalism Award in 2000, the Washington Association of Black Journalists Community Service Award in 1997 and the NAACP Image Award in 1996. Mr. Madison and his wife of 42 years, Sharon, live in Washington, D.C. They have four children and five grandchildren Check out all things Jon Carroll Follow and Support Pete Coe   Pete on YouTube Pete on Twitter Pete On Instagram Pete Personal FB page

As a gay author and activists he takes on the forces of discrimination and bigotry, and challenges those who cower. He reports on the news of the day in politics, media and pop culture, and he interviews all the big names — authors, newsmakers and icons from politics to entertainment. Signorile takes calls from listeners across North America, engaging in passionate discussion and often battling it out with dissenters — who occasionally even change their minds. It's Signorile's own brand of "conversion therapy,” as he calls it, “converting people from the nasty, vicious, perverted right-wing agenda to our more fun, fabulous and enlightened one." A common refrain erupts at each new atrocity: This isn't who we are. In American Rule, Jared Yates Sexton upends those convenient fictions by laying bare the foundational myths at the heart of our collective American imagination. From the very origins of this nation, Americans in power have abused and subjugated others; enabling that corruption are the many myths of American exceptionalism and steadfast values, which are fed to the public and repeated across generations. Working through each era of American growth and change, Sexton weaves together the origins and perpetuation of these narratives still in the public memory, and the acts we have chosen to forget.  Stirring, deeply researched, and disturbingly familiar, American Rule is a call to examine our own misconceptions of what it means, and has always meant, to be an American.   listen and subscribe to Jared's Podcast  subscribe to his substack newsletter    1:26 Bill Boyleis a well sourced and connected businessman who lives in Washington DC with his wife and son. Sexton is also the author of three collections of fiction and is an associate professor of creative writing at Georgia Southern University. Get his new book now From writer and political analyst Jared Yates Sexton comes a journey through the history of the United States, from the nation's founding to the twenty-first century, which examines and debunks the American myths we've always told ourselves.  In recent years, Americans have faced a deluge of horrifying developments in politics and culture: stolen elections, fascist rallies, families torn apart and locked away. A common refrain erupts at each new atrocity: This isn't who we are. Stirring, deeply researched, and disturbingly familiar, American Rule is a call to examine our own misconceptions of what it means, and has always meant, to be an American. listen and subscribe to Jared's Podcast  subscribe to his substack newsletter    59:00 Jeff Jarvis is the author of What Would Google Do? and Public Parts: How Sharing in the Digital Age Improves the Way we Work and Live. Here is is official bio: Yes, Bob Saget has starred in many successful television shows, including two of the most family-friendly shows network TV has ever produced (Full House and Americas Funniest Home Videos) but he's also an out of his mind, Grammy-nominated standup comedian for over thirty years. From his latest Amazon special, Zero to Sixty, to his HBO special That Ain't Right to his scene-stealing cameos in Entourage, and The Aristocrats, it's always effective as Saget embraces his mischievous side. From directing MGM's cult favorite feature film Dirty Work, to directing and producing the highly acclaimed ABC television movie, For Hope, to starring in the critically acclaimed, Paul Weitz off-Broadway play, Privilege, to starring on Broadway in the Tony Award winning The Drowsy Chaperone, Bob Saget shows no signs of stopping. Ever. In 2007 came the hugely successful DVD release of Farce of the Penguins, an R-rated comedy/documentary/love story, that he voiced-over, wrote, directed, and produced, with producer David Permut. And then came the hit NBC quiz show 1 VS 100, where Bob ad-libbed his way through the one-hour prime time format. In 2008, The Comedy Central Roast of Bob Saget premiered to the second highest ratings of all TV that night, second only to the Olympics. For many years now, Bob has been a proud board member of the Scleroderma Research Foundation. His 2013 one-hour stand-up special, That's What I'm Talkin' About, was nominated for a 2014 Grammy Award for Best Comedy Album. Zero To Sixty premiered worldwide on November 14, 2017 on multiple digital platforms including Amazon Prime, iTunes, Comcast, DirecTV, and many others. Also today's sponsor is Indeed.com/Standup At about 33 minutes in I speak to Matt Jones of Kentucky Sports Radio about politics and how we can best communicate to eachother. Matt is a native of Middlesboro, Ky. Matt Jones is a graduate of Transylvania University and Duke Law School. While practicing law, Jones created what became the largest independent college sports blog in America before joining the On3 network. The blog created a following for Jones which led to him being host of the most popular radio show in the state, Kentucky Sports Radio (KSR). The KSR brand is known for bringing UK sports coverage in the “most ridiculous manner possible.” About Matt's Book: "Mitch, Please! How Mitch McConnell Sold Out Kentucky (and America, Too)" The New York Times and Wall Street Journal bestseller about how Mitch McConnell has been bad for Kentucky—and why he needs to be voted out of office from the founder of Kentucky Sports Radio and attorney Matt Jones. They say all politics is local. In 2020, Mitch McConnell will have served five full terms as a US Senator. Thirty years. The Senate Majority leader's power is as undeniable as it is infuriating, and the people of Kentucky have had enough. Led by Matt Jones, they (and they alone) have the power to oust him from office. How did Jones, a local boy turned attorney turned sports radio host come to shine the brightest light on McConnell's ineptitude? Simple—he knows Kentucky inside and out, and has used the state's love of sports as an entry point for showcasing how McConnell has failed his fellow citizens both economically and socially for three decades. Entertaining, maddening, yet ultimately inspiring, these stories from Kentuckians in each of its 120 counties illustrate the Senate Majority leader's stunning shortcomings. “Jones employs a sharp, political scalpel eviscerating McConnell…[and this book is] an effective combination of description and vivisection” (Kirkus Reviews). Jones brings his trademark wit and wisdom throughout the book, while also offering a beautiful portrait of a state with arguably the most untapped potential in our country. Ultimately, the white-hot hatred for McConnell on the coasts is just white noise. Only the people of Kentucky can remove him from office. Here, Matt Jones demonstrates he has the influence, charisma, and institutional knowledge to lead the charge. He and his fellow Kentuckians have had enough—and they're ready for a fight. 1:50 Daniel P. Bolger of Aurora, Illinois is an author, historian, and retired Lieutenant General (promoted 21 May 2010) of the United States Army. Now on to today's show notes This week is Stand Up with Pete Dominick LITE.  I am on vacation with my family this week for the first time since the Summer of 2019 but I will be still be posting new content every day. Today's guest is one of my oldest and closest friend's who also just happens to be is one of Australia's most popular entertainers. David Campbell is a multi-platinum selling recording artist, Campbell has featured on TV, starred in theatre and cabaret, recorded three Top Ten albums, and sold out concert tours from coast to coast. He has a unique legacy as not just one of Australia's leading musical theatre stars, but also one of the few local performers to have achieved similar success in New York. Born and raised in Adelaide, David was drawn to the performing arts - initially as an actor. He was performing at the STC and Sydney Opera House by the age of 22, and in 1997 starred in a major revival of Les Miserables in Sydney. Shortly after this, Campbell moved to New York, where his downtown cabaret show attracted major crowds. Due to what Time Out New York described as “the biggest buzz since Barbra Streisand”, Campbell moved his show to the iconic cabaret room Rainbow & Stars, becoming the youngest performer ever to headline the venue. With this success as a launch pad, Campbell was soon in demand from Broadway's most prestigious writers and directors. Stephen Sondheim cast him in the New York premiere of his musical Saturday Night, and he played leading roles in shows like Babes In Arms (at the Lincoln Center), and South Pacific. In 2001, at the height of his New York success, Campbell was tempted back to Australia by the role of a lifetime - ‘the wild one' Johnny O'Keefe, in the musical phenomenon Shout! He toured Australia in the show for over a year, and became a household name as a result. Campbell went on to star in Australian productions of classic musicals like Carousel and Company, new works at the MTC and STC, and even in Pirates of Penzance for Opera Australia. Along the way, he picked up a Helpmann Award for Best Actor, for his 2005 role in Sunset Boulevard. Campbell established himself quickly as one of the country's biggest-selling recording artists. His albums The Swing Sessions (2006), The Swing Sessions 2(2007), and Good Lovin' (2008) all hit the Top Ten and achieved platinum sales. He has also mounted no fewer than five sell-out concert tours - for which he has received a further two Helpmann Awards. In 2009, his live concert DVD Good Lovin' Live hit number one on the ARIA chart. David's album success included David Campbell On Broadway and the release of the album was complimented by the specially commissioned television documentary David Campbell On Broadway, produced by Luckiest Productions. A mixture of Broadway history, exclusive interviews, and behind-the-scenes footage of the album recording, the documentary was broadcast on the STVDIO Channel on Foxtel. Regularly performing in the USA as a headlining artist at G'Day LA, Campbell has also acted as MC and headlined at G'Day NY on several occasions. In recent years Campbell's position in the Australian entertainment industry expanded with his appointment as Artistic Director of the Adelaide Cabaret Festival (the largest cabaret festival in the world), and the success of Luckiest Productions, the production company he runs with his wife, Lisa. Luckiest Productions now produces national tours and live theatre at the new Hayes Theatre in Potts Point.  The first production at the Hayes Theatre, Sweet Charity, recently enjoyed a sell out season, critical acclaim and 8 x Helpmann Award Nominations. A highly sought after master of ceremonies, David has hosted many events for numerous corporate and charitable organisations.  He has recently been appointed as an Ambassador for the Starlight Foundation and regularly supports Dr Charlie Teo's Cure For Life Foundation at numerous events nationally. David also co-hosted the 2013 Carols By Candlelight telecast for the Nine Network with Lisa Wilkinson. Campbell is a founding member of Independent Music Theatre, the group of producers behind the Hayes Theatre Co., a venue in Potts Point devoted to musicals and cabaret.  It opened in January 2014 and has quickly established itself as a venue of productions of exceptional quality - winning a recent poll as Australia's favourite theatre. Currently, David is a regular weekend announcer on Smooth FM for the DMG Network, is the co-host of Today Extra for the Nine Network in Australia and was recently nominated for Most Popular New Talent at the 2013 Logie Awards.   Campbell returned to the studio last year to record a brand new album, David Campbell sings John Bucchino. The album was released on 13 June in conjunction with a tour throughout the month. Get his new album "The Saturday Sessions"  David has also written and published 2 children's books.
